@@visiblyshaken126 I merely replied to what US bases could do to explain how they could advise troops to conduct themselves in the UK.
It's nothing to with the Fred West case, he was tried by the British legal system. Anna Sarcoolas wasn't and fled British justice.
The US government's reaction was abominable. If it was the other way round, they'd have demanded extradition.

I was so happy to see the gift shop still open at Mildenhall. She had some great items that I bought to bring home. Did the Bird and hand go out of business We actually had to spend a night there waiting for an early morning hop. One lady felt so bad for me she offered me her guest room. We made it home.

Stationed at RAF Lakenheath from 96-99. Lakenheath px looks so big compared back when I was there. Look like Baskin-Robbins isn't there anymore., it was at the front just as you enter the PX. Mildenhall didn't have a PX back in the day but there was a Toyland. Looks like then moved the furniture shop from RAF Feltwell to Mildenhall. great times there, thanks for the memories...

Can you do a comparison of the entertainment locations at each base? I was gonna be playing in The Galaxy Bar in Mildenhall back in 2012 but it got changed to The Tudor Bar. That was fun. I'm interested in seeing all of the venues and what other entertainment is on base.

When I was stationed at RAF Fairford in May 2007 to May 2009 , I always had to drive all the way there it took at least three to four hours but it was worth the trip if you was not driving to RAF Alconbury but you would always go to the Burger King and Tacobell on the Lakenheath side. The kabob shops we had in Fairford were just like ordering McDonalds and Burger King. Only difference I was 22 and 23 at the time. They always had very pretty female service clerks who worked the cash register and I remember trying to get with one of them. Unfortunately no cigar but the Commissary is a little bigger. We did buy meats there that we couldn't get at RAF Fairford so it was worth the trip. Over all I remember Lakenheaths fuel station is right by the Commissary so, where Mildenhall had there was perfect within the BX.
How many remember the 3rd Air Force driving course we had to undergo before being allowed to drive in Britain. I remember getting that and you felt like you was let loose to explore. I was able to bring my vehicle from the states as some Brits liked it and others hated it. But I was the only single Airman at the time with a truck so I hauled a lot of stuff on the base and for he locals and Airman when people needed help. But I miss it there. It was a once in a lifetime experience. Always will cherish that

Having been on several USAF bases (including Mildenhall and Lakenheath) when I served in the RAF, the American management seem to think that the employment laws of the host country in regards to the employment of local does not apply to them as they regard it as US soil. Also, the base seems to want to isolate themselves from the local community. When they do venture out of the base they seem to be surprised that the locals have electricity and running water. Ok, it is Suffolk but really? Plus in the US companies seem to want employees to work themselves to death for the benefit of the company. It says it all that a UK McDonald's worker gets three times the wages as a McDonald's worker in the US. But I have to admit USAF bases have far better facilities than an RAF base. You be lucky to have a Spar shop on base

    • @blueberry_dino4675

@@johnmartin7599 Yes I agree the shop on a USAF base are so much better than an RAF base. They may think that US employment laws apply to local national employee but unfortunately they are wrong and local employment laws apply. The Airmen rarely venture off base, I've heard so many airmen say the UK is so boring and then when I ask them where they have been they say just to Bury Saint Edmunds or Cambridge. Well of course your going to get bored if you only go to two places our rail network is amazing and you can get to some amazing places in just an hour or two. I understand the ones that were here during the covid lockdowns, I completely understand being bored. I was too 😂😂 but we are out of it all. So go out and explore.

When was out in Germany, heard the same comment from airmen who spent thier entire tour around the local area and never once ventured out of yue local area. Waste of a good posting

Mildenhall gas still not operational. Lakenheath almost routinely runs out of gas without notices put out. Typical overcharges on any pricing even compared to English pricing. Pretty lacking and without a Target or Walmart around, more or less, the only option sometimes.
