It's nice to know that you don't necessarily have to have your parents model a healthy relationship in order for you to have one in the future. Neither my husband nor I had that growing up, but we saw examples of things we didn't want. Somehow we ended up very emotionally intelligent and very healthy together!

Somehow missed this episode until just now but I’m having a bit of a time listening because my dad’s name is Jerry and his brother is a James who goes by Jimmy aka my uncle Jimmy. It’s a little surreal and a touch bittersweet since both are in their mid 80s with a lot of age related medical issues and my dad’s dementia is pretty bad. But like so many listeners it’s been an awful last few years and I miss being able to go to my dad for support and all his wonderful stories. So some tears with this episode for me but enjoying the listen while I work on a craft project this Sunday evening. And Morgan- treasure both these fine gentlemen. I wish I had more videos of my dad or my dad and uncle telling their stories.
Story 3 hit way too close to home. That’s pretty much my exact situation. My parents loved me and raised me fairly well, but our relationship has become strained as I’ve gotten older because I’m now aware of how my dad treats my mom. I know they will never get divorced and part of me doesn’t want them to because it would destroy my dad. Like maybe life ending. But it’s so hard to see my angel of mom be verbally abused. I think you guys gave wonderful advice.

I listen on iTunes and literally just hunted down this video to comment. I SOBBED at the end of the episode. (Still sobbing) I know it wasn’t sad. But I write letters also. I write them all the time. I don’t have an internal monologue, so I literally can not work through my thoughts, feelings, or emotions at times… especially when they are so strong and overwhelming. I sometimes feel that I have so much to say, but when the time is right, I’ll forget.
My husband left me 6 months ago for one of his employees. I never got a conversation. He sometimes just stared at me blankly. When I cried, he walked away. I now have about 400 notes on my phone and God knows how many hand written letters in notebooks. Although he probably doesn’t care, anything that I felt that I have truly wanted to say to him, he received in a letter. I have always written letters to people when faced when any type of conflict, disagreement, or just anything important that I wanted to say. I have received acknowledgment that individuals read through what I said, but it is extremely rare that I have ever gotten a response or letter in return. Hearing Jerry’s appreciation of the letter he received from Jimmy literally meant the world to me.
That 1990s cell phone 😂 It's the exact same phone Zack Morris had on Saved By The Bell!

I told my mom years ago that I would support her if she left my dad. She ended up telling my dad to try to get him to change and he ended up blaming me for their problems. I stopped trying. They're in the middle of a divorce now and I don't talk to my dad.

I love you guys soooo much. but I do want to let you know to be careful with better help. they have a history of making things wayyyy worse bc they don't have FULLY licensed therapist! a lot of people that have tried it have gotten more traumatized, or was told to get over it. I would do some more research on it :/
for story 4 if the op is reading this he doesnt like you never has probably it might suck to read this but hes pulling you along if he wanted to be with you then he would. if you had feelings together you wouldnt have made the decision to just be friends its manipulation and hes stringing you along lose him youll find better friends who dont do this to you and youll find someone who you can love and not be obsessed with. he wants power over you so youll hang on to his every word and im sure the gf wouldnt be too happy if he had feelings for someone else while hes dating her thats horrible to her. its like dating a cheater hes not gonna change for anyone
Colorado will marry two people without witnesses, self officiated (no certificate or officiant license required) for $30 cash/$32 with a card. Provided costs haven't gone up in the last few years. Story 5: Seems sus. def could be something there like maybe mom doesn't actually like bf and she's either good at hiding it or you're misinterpreting her feelings for bf bc you want her to like him.
OR:
1. she's planning to get more serious with new bf and wants to have all of you together w out distractions like S.O.s or daily life stuff bc she's excited about him joining the family or wants to make sure you all get on well before moving forward w him.
2. Wants to give you the power of taking initiative as a way to respect you as an adult or so you don't feel pressured to invite him if you maybe just wanted to spend vacay w fam
3. Didn't like to invite bf bc he's not gone on vacays before so its normal to her to not have him there, maybe took him not joining before as a sign you or him dont want him there.
