That’s Dimebag Darrel on guitar. One of the best guitarists to ever live.
Getcha pull R.I.P dime
“You know it’s true” lmao if you know you know
@@theminionmusic yknow its truEuuE 🎶
And that's Vinnie Paul playing those drums, Dimebag's brother.
RIP Dimebag & Vinnie Paul Abbott. [Both Rock Legends!]
I'd argue he's the second Best only to Eddie Van Halen, but Dimebag is my favourite guitarist and he inspired me to start learning guitar.
Pantera were basically still kids but a very seasoned band when they did this set in front of 800K Russians in Moscow. Legendary. R.I.P. Dimebag & Vinnie.
1.5 million was the final count
Couldn't be more correct. They were kids. They showed their worth
Almost 2 million
Closer to 500-800k during their set but 1.6 million were confirmed for the entire concerts attendance*. Still a crap ton of people
Wrong. It was 1.6 mil and was over 2,000,000 when Metallica took the stage. I was there.
This is no screemo. This is pure heavy metal at its finest. And that was Darrel "Dimebag" Abbott on lead guitar. He deserves to be heard by everyone. One of the best guitarist to ever live and sadly taken away from us heavly metalhead way too soon. His brother is on drums, Vinnie. He passed in 2018. Rip Abbott brothers.
You can almost see how Vinnie went.... Dime showed up in Vin's room at the foot of his bed...
Hey Vin... wake up... we gotta go!!
Dime, that you?
Ok ok ok... let's go!!
Van Halen!!!!
🙏🇨🇵✅💥❤
I love the fact that all four of you had no possible way of denying the groove of that break down at the end and all four of your heads started banging instantly and I love it because that’s what makes metal great!!!
🔥PANTERA🔥
It’s impossible if you have ears
@@rblfrmthewstdwn Amen!
My favourite part
I was thinking exactly the same thing!
PANTERA!! 5 minutes alone or this love 🤘🤘🤘💀💀💀 fkn awesome from 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
5:23 I love that "shhhh"! let the man enjoy this kickass solo!
That was amazing. Our brother Dime right there talking to their souls!
Love how all four of you started head banging at the breakdown. It’s a grove that just flows through the body. Best band EVER!
This was at Monster of Rock Moscow 1991. Just one moth after the Soviet Union collapsed. They stopped counting at 1.6 million people attending. This does not include the "Guards" who throughout the concert took their Uniforms off and joined the audience.
Funfact: Dimebag Darrell's favorite Guitar player was Eddie Van Halen. Long story short he bought a knock-off version of Frankenstrat II (The black and yellow striped one) and after Dimebag passed Eddie said a Real one needs the real one and he gave Dime his original and they put it in his casket before he was buried. (Damn yo I started to tear up just typing that. There was no on like "Dimebag" Darrell Lance Abbott. R.I.P Brother GETCHA PULL!
Sadly both Dimebag and his brother, drummer of the band, Vinnie Paul Abbott have since passed.
Ace Frehley from Kiss was his favorite guitarist. Literally got a tattoo of him on his chest.
@@brennankelley4932 Ace is who inspired him to play. Eddie was his fav.
Bet you remember as I do Phil stopping the gig to pull a fan up on the stage cos he had a spliff!
I think he said ‘an original needs the original’. Not that it matters much. What matters is that Eddie’s move, to give his own guitar, was amazing. Imagine your guitar hero doing something like that to honor you.
@@sakkis I knew it was something like that. haha thanks
5:56 You have just discovered the breakdown, an Iconic part of metal music that strips away all unnecessary thought process in favour of Head banging.
I love the way all of you synced up just for this bit, The power of a breakdown is unmatched in bringing out the most primal of urges
When that BREAKDOWN happened, every other band on the bill should have just packed up and went home. LMAO
I was thinking pretty much the same thing, the headbang is inevitable. all four of em feelin that music
Unnecessary thought process 😂
I like it 👍
And it's the best BD EVER
I was waiting, I'm like...I guarantee they all headband in synchronization during the breakdown. It's impossible not too!
You need more Pantera in your life. "Cemetery Gates", "Hollow", "This Love" are some deep songs. "Rise" and "F**king Hostile" are crazy fast, insane mosh pit songs. RIP Abbott brothers!!!
Mouth for War also 💥🔥
a new level too
@@ohmsdt HELL yeah
Can't forget "Walk"

Metal has more heart and soul than people give it credit, besides talent they give it their all.
Lolol you probably got into it because the internet. Poser
No doubt…..the boomers (Rolling Stone magazine) have never given metal the chance it’s earned….look how hard it is for a metal band to get into the Rock&Roll hall of fame….I mean Soundgarden,Tool,Alice in Chains,Pantera,Motorhead,& countless other bands have been blatantly ignored …..like Slayer or the Melvins or Judas Priest or Iron Maiden had zero impact on music? That’s what they’re insinuating 🖕them…..they’ll be dead soon & Gen X will clean up yet another mess they made with zero regard for anyone ….as long as THEY got what they wanted that’s all that mattered to them…..I’d never disrespect any veteran but especially Vietnam vets, they have my utmost respect & gratitude but the ones who ducked the draft by going to college while the young men who were unable to afford college were sent around the world to fight a rich man’s war & then those same students had the f•ckin audacity to spit on & talk down to men & women who served in Nam 🤨sums them up perfectly …..selfish narcissistic assholes
Так и есть!
Very very true my friend
The lead guitarist dimbag darrell witch is my favorite ever. But he was tragically murdered on stage back in 2004. Pantera has paved the way for many bands coming up behind pantera. RIP dimebag 🤟
Legendary guitarist and performer. One of the biggest shows in history, and he absolutely crushes it. I'll never in a million years be able to play the guitar like that.
R.i.p. to Vinny Paul as well. D.d.s brother
cant believe its almost 20yrs :(
Rip🤘
Dimbag Darrel Witch rules. But I prefer dimebag
05:56, if not the one, one of the best metal breakdowns of all time. Thank you guys for keeping metal alive
and synchronized headbanging to it is unavoidable
Bout time y’all listened to some Pantera. “Walk” is one of their big hits. I’d recommend “5 minutes alone” as well. I’d actually recommend all their albums and songs but those are good starter songs
Step it up to Fucking Hostile
“Walk” has one of the most universally relatable themes.
@@scottgarland335 they ain’t ready lol
@@stevenmack669 I know. Just wanted to see their reaction
@@scottgarland335 haha ears be bleeding
Pantera was no joke in concert. I left that place with bruises all over me. The mosh pits were INSANE.
never left a pantera pit not bleeding, god they were amazing.
this exact show ?
Slayers pit too was like being in a human hurricane with knees and elbows everywhere. Even the bystanders forming the pit would frequently and quite violently shove people moshing in the pit just to cause more chaos. *Clash of the titans tour 91* Washington DC.!! It got shut down about 40 mins early bcz the crowd got too wild. The people standing around the mixing area started getting thru the floor seat barriers, about 1000 people pushing all at once with 20 guards trying to hold it back. It was next level crazy.. bands were anthrax Megadeth and slayer with the at the time fairly unknown and small coming up band Alice in chains opening the show.
I told the fellas to try out some slayer
Moshing was the greatest bonding experience ever. NEVER left one without loving every motherfucker in it. We had one in 92 at our snowball dance..to YMCA 🤣 They stopped playing hard music in hopes we would stop... Naaaahhh Gen X finds a way...LOL
Six Red Bulls? Dude, this band was sponsored by Jack Daniels.
Also this was 1991 so redbull back then.
As a PanterA 🤘 fan
Damn proud seeing people and hearing you brothers listening to them
May Dime and Vinnie rest in peace
✊
Fuck yeah 🤘
This performance is the perfect example of when the man(or in this case men) meet the moment. And that was a very, very, VERY special moment in rock history. One that will never come again. After more than four decades of cold war, an American band at the very top of their game introduced the Soviet world to how awesome heavy metal could be.
Hey Einar, i’m Einar from Canada. A very rare name here.
Long live Pantera!

Y’all need lots more Pantera in your lives!
Pantera Cemetery Gates or Cowboys From Hell. Domination has one of the best guitar solos ever imo RIP Dimebag 🙏🏾
The solo is great, but the breakdown is legendary
You can't beat the solo in Floods. Arguably his best work solo wise in my opinion.
5:59. EVERYONE instinctively starts banging their heads. Unavoidable with a solid, heavy groove! Lol. Love it! 🤘🤘
One of the best breakdowns EVER imo.
It just happens natural people bob their head when music is playing, it helps music funnel into the ear and is like your ear is grabbing onto more of the sounds better, happens in all music from Classical to Jazz, one you start feeling it you naturally start bobbing around so your ears can grab much more of the sound waves, wiggle bob headbang.
@@tastefulsubstancethat bit when darrell comes back in with the high notes and rex is holding that groove. Pants shittingly hard lmao
So basically that concert was with a crowd of 1.6m Russians in 1991 right before the Soviet Union collapsed
Pantera makes me proud to be a metal guitarist and a Texan! I can’t wait to seem em live next year! I miss ya Dime and Vinnie! 🤘
texas, lol
pantera still alive? where they live bro?
That's not Pantera . . That's a tribute band.
It's Phil and Rex with Zakk Wylde on guitar and the drummer from anthrax. That's as close as we'll ever get to Pantera. Might as well enjoy it.
@clint Logan were you around ft worth Dallas area in the beginning of panteras reign ? I was at joes garage every weekend thru power metal then cowboys from hell then they went worldwide pretty awesome badass times to be there from the beginning Dallas city limits and joes garage. I remember some of it but was pretty fucked up those years lol.
This is heavy metal. People who get really specific call it groove metal. I love Pantera. Would love to see you do some more. I just wish everyone didn’t react to the same 2 or 3 Pantera songs. You guys should do “use my third arm”. That’s one of my favorites! And this was filmed in Russia back in the 90s. That’s why security was not screwing around. Security was literally the Russian Army.
Power groove is what we all called them
@@jamescollinscares3897 I’ve never heard that but I don’t get into all these sub-genres much. We just called it Metal. Call it whatever but Pantera was as badass as it ever got in my opinion.

I have never referred to them as groove metal. Pantera is it’s own thing.

”Drag the waters”, probably the heaviest song by Pantera (and one of my favourites)! Underrated, they didn’t play it live, but it had a great video single.

Down is just about second to Pantera, amazing band.@@brianburkhard5209
Tragically, both Dimebag Darrell (guitar) and Vinnie Paul (drums) of Pantera, have passed away... they were brothers, who originally formed Pantera as teens in the early 80's in Arlington, Texas... Rex Brown (bass) joined early... Philip Anselmo (vocals) joined around 1987. Pantera decided to go for a more extreme metal sound around 1989 just before they were signed in 1990 to a major record company.
Pantera introduced themselves to the world in 1990 w/ the album 'Cowboys from hell' and the band worked the tour circuit hard... drinking hard, partying every night, and killing the crowds as a live band... Phil Anselmo shaved his head around this concert in Russia in 1991 because it was a very radical look in heavy metal back then, when every lead singer had long hair.
Pantera got heavier in 1992 w/ next album 'Vulgar display of power', touring w/ the likes of Megadeth, Skid Row and Ozzy Osbourne... it pushed both Pantera records to platinum sales (1 million copies) in the US by 1993... "Far beyond driven" was released in 1994 and reached #1 on the US charts... the heaviest metal record ever to do so. Unfortunately, vocalist Phil Anselmo was suffering from a back injury at the time, and doctors said he had to take a year or so off to recover after surgery, and he decided instead to self-medicate to keep Pantera going, and by 1995, he was using heroin for the pain.
After the next album 'The great southern trendkill' hit #4 on the US charts in 1996, Phil Anselmo overdosed after a show in Texas and was lucky to survive... Pantera issued a live album 'Official live: 101 Proof' in 1997 and kept touring into 1999... A new record 'Reinventing the steel' was released in 2000, but Pantera's 2001 world tour would be their last... the 9/11 attacks cut their tour short.
Pantera went their separate ways in 2002, as Phil and Rex began working on new projects... Dimebag & Vinnie spent months on hiatus, and by 2003, the separation seemed permanent... So, the brothers decided to form a new band Damageplan and released their debut album 'New found power' in 2004... Tragically, in December that year at the end of the tour, Damageplan were playing in Ohio when a deranged fan armed w/ a handgun shot and killed guitarist Dimebag Darrell on stage and 3 others, before police killed him.
Dimebag's brother Vinnie Paul was devastated and Damageplan was over as a result... Vinnie Paul resisted any more attempts to reform Pantera. He joined the band Hellyeah! in 2007 and played drums and toured until he passed away from heart failure in 2018.
In 2022, Pantera's surviving members Phil Anselmo & bassist Rex Brown announced "a celebration of Pantera" would be launching w/ shows in which famed guitarist Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society) and drummer Charlie Benante (Anthrax, S.O.D.) would be playing Pantera songs live in concert.

Pantera "walk" has the sickest neck swivel groove of almost any metal song I can think of. Definitely worth a listen if you haven't heard it yet

You'll never see another band like Pantera. Definitely one of a kind.
I agree, even seeing the new "pantera" isn't the same as the 90's
Pantera's "Cemetery Gates" has one of the best opening guitar riffs of all time. R.I.P. Dimebag
Welcome to Pantera! You have just entered a whole new world of Metal. Dime bag was super human. Long live the Legend!!

Dude watching all of you guys headbang to the breakdown at the same time made me smile so big and I was headbanging along with you! Glad I found y'all, can't wait to check out more stuff!
This live version of Domination is my favorite Pantera song ever! This was in Russia shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union. That’s why “security” is getting by with just beating the hell out of people in the crowd. Supposedly there were over a million there…and Pantera brought it.
Why? Phil is completely out of breath damn near the whole time.
Wasn't Metallica also in this event line up??
@@skrillexboom1026 yes

I just stumbled across this video, having been on a Pantera kick today. It was so much fun seeing your reactions to them for the first time 😂 The guitar solo in here is inSANE. For vocals that match (or exceed) that level, I recommend Pantera's live performance of This Love (1996, Anselmo). The lead singer was declining fast at that point, so you can hear his agony in the 5:50 mark onwards. It's like your soul leaves your body, it's so heavy. Glad you liked this in some way!
That was cool watching you guys. You should check out WALK by Pantera. Other good metal songs are Metallica - Master of Puppets, Megadeth - Holy Wars

The reason why I wanted to learn the guitar is that man right there. Forever live Dimebag and Vinnie.
By the way Dime was one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He would talk to anyone and was always in an amazing mood.

Unfortunately Rage started raging with the Machine with their support of the leftist Nazi democrat party😔
Slipknot will surprise you, not as much screaming as you think, there's amazing vocals and some fast rapping too depending on the song. I recommend live performances first so you're not distracted by some of the videos content, especially "The Devil In I".
Spit It Out live at Download, Psychosocial (live from Day Of The Gusano), The Devil In I (live), Korn & Slipknot covering The Beastie Boys "Sabotage" would all be excellent choices.
