Rodney King was a tragedy. But, keep in mind, he led police on a high speed chase, nearly wrecked into other cars and then refused to exit the vehicle. He acted erratically and resisted arrest. I am willing to accept the Rodney King was an unfortunate incident that got out of hand. Rage against the machines messages were so raw and Ironically lost in their popularity of mostly white audience due to their sound. Yeah, y'all didn't hear a word these guy's were saying.. this song is about racism inside the police force and the brutality they inflicted on the black and brown community! Listen to it again fellas!
This song condemns white supremacy and police brutality. The lyrics were "Some of those who work (police) forces are the same who burn crosses" and "Those who died are justified, by wearing a badge (police) they're the chosen whites". Most Rage songs are about oppression or injustice. As black men, y'all MUST hear: - "Know Your Enemy" WITH lyrics (need the lyrics for that one) - The official music video for "Bulls on Parade" (probably their most famous song of all time) - "The Ghost of Tom Joad" WITH lyrics (need the lyrics for that one) - "Renegades of Funk"

As an adult I hear there message and still holds true. But as an adult, unfortunately they a propaganda band for big government and to control the masses into submissions to being about a dystopia for purity. Yup, same thought process as you know who. Same message all the military dictators said in South and Central America. How naive I was as a child, guess that's why the young die in wars as fotter.... (this is my opinion being born into poverty in Central America, as being lied to my entire childhood about freedom and protection. When they took all of our money, votes and opportunity. In return we were guaranteed universal poverty, equity and equality of nothing. Now I live in the USA and am sad to see how ungrateful people are to be in the best county on the planet. Because it isn't fair, being equally poor is far worse they having a arrogant president when you can feed your family and not stress about it.
Oh god, the guys in the band are SO YOUNG!! Back when I listend to them when they came out, didn't seem so young, now they are just babies!! How did they handle performing in front of such a huge audience with such a strong message?! Very brave young men!! (I'm getting so old.)
Probably because they were so young 😅 You don’t worry so much at that age, you have your convictions and feel very passionately about them maybe because you just don’t have enough knowledge and experience to realize that things are rarely just black and white.
I'm a decades long Rage fan and I think if you delved further into their catalogue you'd really appreciate this band's message. They don't hold back. They speak truth to power and they do it fearlessly. Songs like "Freedom" and "War Within a Breath" will change your life. As others have said, definitely read the lyrics. Zack doesn't always enunciate well but his lyrics are fierce and truthful. They'll honestly give you one of the best history lessons in the historical oppression of marginalized communities combined with a powerful call to arms for people to rise up and fight back. Also, since you mentioned The Matrix, there are Rage songs at the end of the first and second films, "Wake Up" and "Calm Like a Bomb" so you've probably heard this band without even realizing it. Give 'em a chance. Seriously. I think they will resonate.
Yo! Word to the wise, if you're gonna listen to Rage you gotta pull up their Lyrics to understand why we all love them. Finally!!! More RAGE is a must!! 🤘 Please note: You will need a lyric video to catch the bars in any other song by them. Their lyrics are too important to miss! 💯
One of you mentioned The Matrix, so now you really need to do their song “Wake Up”, which was at the end of that movie. With the lyrics pulled up, read and listen so you don’t miss anything.
This isn’t a song that was made just to be made like a lot of music these days. It’s so relatable to those who lived during the 90s, specifically younger people. You either get it or you don’t and idk if these guys got it. And that’s ok. Sometimes you have to look deeper into the background of some music to fully understand it. On another note.. the simultaneous head banging was epic🤣 love these guys.

Yall REALLY needed a lyric sheet for this, especially for your first Rage cut. "Some of those in Forces are the same Who burn crosses." Zach is an MC with bangin bars to spare. Yall should not not know that from now going forward..Peace
In the lyrics they say "Some of those who work forces, are the same that burn crosses." but initially the verse was meant to be "Some of those that burn crosses are the same that hold office".
I graduated from high school and went to college in 1992, when the riots were all we were talking about. Walking to classes, this song was blasted from nearly every dorm, every day. Y’all really need to read the lyrics. This song really encapsulated 1992 in a way that crossed skin color and class structure ahead of their time. RATM was waking people up to reality - and helped create a movement now denigrated as being “woke”.
Being aware of class struggles is NOTHING to do with extremist 'wokism'. The fact that calling something male or female might offend 0.00000326% of the population so we all have to change, that's some bullshit. Absolutely nothing to do with what this band were singing about.

Tom Morello is in the goat conversation for guitar, and all of these guys are on a lot of “best of” lists, individually and as a group. and yeah, Zack is a rapper. this album dropped my senior year of high school and blew everyone away. it was more “fuck the police” than “fuck you mom” 😉 they’re one of the most important and influential bands of the last 50 years and Tom Morello’s mom is an absolute legend. There’s a show called “from cradle to stage” about moms who raised rock stars with an awesome episode about his mom.
This song is still so powerful and holds so much weight. Also still very relevant today. I feel like it wasn’t given the attention it deserves, maybe if they had the lyrics pulled up it would’ve been appreciated more. This is one of those songs that pumps me up and inspires a fire/rage😏 in me (As many others have stated, Killing In The Name was directly inspired by The LA Riots following the brutal beating/attempted murder of Rodney King by police. This all happened a couple months before I was born in LA in 1992 so it literally hits close to home for me)

The riots were even worse. Look up truck driver Reginald Denny, who was pulled out of his truck and savagely beaten. Every time, the riots are far worse than the police beatings. And they are NEVER justified. NEVER is looting, burning, beating or killing a justified response. In my eyes it’s worse.
@@danielbeckstedt767 Don't you get the feeling we are part of a human lab rat experiment? Everybody does stuff to up the ante to ratchet up the violence. The so-called authorities and peace officers seem just as blameworthy as the original perpetrators. And then you have outside groups who go in and provoke and incite people to react and overreact. I am willing to accept the Rodney King was an unfortunate incident that got out of hand. But all of these different incidents that happen especially in urban black communities seem calculated to stir people's anger. In the George Floyd case you had outsiders handing out bricks and encouraging people to create mayhem. What does that have to do with happened? Here in the Nichols case the special unit is very special indeed. They were recruited specially. Why is that? The corruption in that department is blatant. I think people were hoping there would be a huge riot, but it didn't happen. Anyway, forgive me. I am one of those tinfoil hat people seeing a conspiracy everywhere. Gentlemen, this band is one of the most influential bands from the 90s and their content carries so much weight, it would do you good to research them a little bit and watch the lyric videos. Rage against the machines messages were so raw and Ironically lost in their popularity of mostly white audience due to their sound. They carried a heavy political message trying to speak truth to power and shed light on police brutality of african americans, along with general government control over the lower classes. With their rock sound they found fame in the numetal communities which would not have been their target audience if you follow the lyricism. Everyone should listen to them now as their message hits hard and their music even harder. I really hope you can get into them because they were amazing.

I graduated from high school and went to college in 1992, when the riots were all we were talking about. Walking to classes, this song was blasted from nearly every dorm, every day.
