    I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2020 with fasting sugar level at 455. Did all kind of diet and workouts but fasting sugar level never came down below 100. Since past 1 month , I am on keto+OMAD and day before I tested my fasting sugar and it came down to 77. I am full of energy all day and don't feel like snacking at all. I am off medications now. ❤️

      Absolutely agree. Unfortunately most the ‘weight’ he lost would have been loss of muscle and liver glycogen and water retention in the body. Each gram of muscle glycogen retains 4g of water. 800g of muscle glycogen between muscles and liver holding 4g of water weight = 3.2kg of weight loss (7.005lbs).

    • @SirNyanPanda
      @SirNyanPanda 3 года назад +6

      He lost ridiculously small amount of weight i must say. Considering that keto makes you lose 10 pounds in the first week of water weight alone. I know there were his water weight percentage numbers, but i struggle to trust them as they go against typical keto experience.

      it's not the *quantity* of the calories, it's the *quality.* If he ate 1500 kcal of sugary items for e.g., he would still lose weight, but he absolutely would not be healthy and still would be extremely hungry, not satiated. The method he is using, ketogenic, overall produces life changing, long lasting benefits. It's not just about losing weight. It's about being healthy.

    • @MauriceMoves
      @MauriceMoves  3 года назад +11

      The perceived necessity of variety is something I struggled deeply with for the longest time. If you think you might want to give it a go, I would love to recommend that you take some detailed measurements, and just commit to trying this "same thing everyday" for just *one week*. One week is a lot less daunting than an entire month, but, after experimenting with one week, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the change in measurements from just one week, at which point, you can decide if the lack of variety is worth the trade-off in results!

    20:4 keto works for me too. Its been a bit harder since I started strength training 6d/wk. Most days OMAD works if protein and fat are good. Macros matter. Lower fat keto is not sustainable for me. I need the higher fat for some reason. Beef on big salads keeps me full the best.

    Excellent! Except that there’s no way to gauge your insulin levels at home. You have to get a test from the hospital for that. You’re referring to your blood sugar levels.
    Sometimes you can not raise your blood sugar but your insulin can still be spiking-and vice versa. Lots of sweeteners don’t raise blood sugar but spikes insulin higher than table sugar does. I believe Dr Fung talks about it as well. At any rate, congrats on your success!

      It is pretty useful that when you go keto, and maybe go to TMAD or OMAD your food costs decrease. Which means you can spend on higher quality foods with the same budget.
      But certain keto items still cost quite a bit. So you have "figure out" after a bit of personal experimentation and seeing whats in your store.

      @@MauriceMoves It was called "The Atkins Diet" back then. We heard of it, but it wasn't HFLC. It was high protein, which is hard on your kidneys, and your body turns it to sugar eventually anyway. Also, a lot of "Atkins" food/supplements relied on artificial sweetener to replace the lost sugar. Keto is far more evolved.

    I totally disagreed with intermittent fasting and Keto eating. To me, such a regimen was utter foolishness. I was brainwashed on vegan and vegetarian meals with only two or three small portions of meat a week.
    Nevertheless, I was chronically over weight for 30 years, 248 lbs. at 5’5”, 65 years old now, with high blood pressure, pre-diabetic, frequent HORRIBLE gout attacks, essentially full-blown metabolic syndrome, etc.
    Then a good friend educated me. Still full of doubts, I wanted scientific arguments to convince me, so I read books, watched hours of reliable videos of MDs who promote intermittent fasting and keto meals. I figured out of last-chance desperation, I’ll try it. Nothing else was working. The results were startling the first week!
    In less than a month I lost several pounds, was never hungry during fasts, no more gout, slept better, everyone complimented my obvious weigh loss and improved health.
    I am now fasting OMAD, one healthy, keto meal daily, with plenty of healthy fats (animal, olive oil & coconut oils) with NO dense carbs, no processed foods, no sugar, diet soda or artificial sweeteners, no vegetables oils, etc.
    I eat a well-prepared very healthy meal every day at 1:00 pm, with fresh vegetables, healthy fats, meat, and a little fruit, no junk food, and I drink seltzer water or herbal teas during the other 23 hrs, with one or two cups of coffee.
    I’m angry that I never tried this years ago. When I reach my goal between 150 to 160 lbs, I’ll have just two meals a day most days to not loose too much weight, other days I’ll fast.
    I am so satisfied with A) the ease, B) the extra time I have because I’m not shopping for three meals a day, spending time preparing the 2 other meals I no longer eat, washing dishes, etc. With the extra time saved I run lightly with my dog each morning, something I haven’t been able to do for 30 years. Besides that, OMAD is less expensive so I now afford more expensive natural, healthier food choices and still don’t spend as much as before when I piled on all kinds of heavily processed meals and ate in restaurants frequently. I would do nothing to change it.
    Unlike some who may have difficulties in the beginning, I never had a problem; it was just simple, easy to implement and scientifically sound.

    Good work. I've done keto and IF for 3 years. I lost 120lb, the majority of it in the first year. However I swap my macros around to prioritise protein over fat (120g protein, 80g fat, under 20 carbs) people fear gluconeogenesis but your body will only do this when needed. It's great for preserving lean muscle mass.

    You ate 1500 kcal a day in the form of vegetables, quality fat and quality protein in a controlled fashion and you lost weight? You must somehow and somewhere know that the weight loss has nothing to do with ketosis or even less with fasting or “eating windows” right? :)
    If eating that much of the energy from fat instead of carbs keeps you consistent, then great I’m happy for you! But I still can’t help to be a little sad over how obviously these experiments prove that weight loss is 100% net energy balance and still it fuels the confused fires of insulin responses and hormonal eating windows.
    My last diet was also around 1500 kcal a day and I’m around your weight. I ate about 175g carbs a day, and lost about the same amount of weight, go figure :)

  • @Raaandy

    An adult male eating 1500 calories in a day should lose weight. That is a loss of calories. Has nothing to do with ketosis. You're starting with a loss of almost 1000 calories per day before exercise. This is a dumb video.

    No app is 100% acurrate, but, if we took your data and suppose that is fully correct, you lost 5lbs from muscle out of 12lbs, which comes down to 7lbs lost from fat, which is great in the fat part but not so much in the muscle part, and this is obviously bad for two reasons:
    1. Muscle is metabolically active, which means that the more you have, the more calories you can consume or need to consume to mantain it. If you lose muscle, you lose a great way of burning calories.
    2. In the long run, this could cause a total shutdown of your metabolism, making you not lose any more fat even if eating 1000kcal
    So in summary, calorie and protein intake should be upped in order to mantain the already existing muscle, while obviously stimulating said muscles by training, in order to make them stay.
    TL;DR : Up your calories and protein intake so the weight loss comes from fat and not muscle.

    Of course you lost weight that is an extremely calorie deficit for a male. Just like women should not be limited to 1200 calories per day men should not be limited to 1500 calories per day. Dieting reduces your metabolism which means you can’t eat as much and long term yo yo dieting is bad for your health. Do not diet!!! Intermittent Fasting, Keto, Low Carb are all diets! Focus on balanced meals and eating at least 3 times per day. Your body has a set point it will reach where it needs to be on its own.

    If you really wanted to check health markers, you should have had a blood test before and after. Cholesterol, triglycerides etc... also you’re losing that weight mainly due to loss in muscle and liver glycogen and water retention. Keto isn’t sustainable and is a restrictive diet that promotes an eating disorder. Ketones are also extremely bad for us and our body only uses them in a fight or flight situation when we are literally starving and have absolutely no fuel (glucose) for our body.
