I’ve probably watched 50 of these types of videos in the last month on different ways people eat, “what I eat in a day“, “how I lost 50 pounds in 4 months”, what to eat when you’re over 50. You get the idea. This was by far the best video out of all of them. No fluff, no weird foods, no chaos or overwhelm. Even if people don’t end up eating the exact same thing you do, and they should probably eat according to what their body needs, this video gives really good guidelines. Really appreciate you sharing where you got each of the foods. Thank you.

It is probably different for everybody. The big thing for me was reducing grain based carbs, especially if the meal also contained meat. So two eggs and fruit and yoghurt instead of toast. One low carb tortilla with a ton of salad and beans rather than two white tortillas. Or meat and veggies but no rice and potatoes or very small portions rather than half the plate. I also about 3 times a week make my lunch a little later and skip the evening meal altogether and go to bed early. I am often not hungry in the evening anyhow since I started eating more fiber.

Work your way up to 1 hour a day every day. If you miss a day don't give up just start again the next day, no problem. After you get to 1 hour of walking start to increase your speed. So keep walking for 1 hour a day but walk a little farther in that 1 hour time frame.

Go for a short walk, then tomorrow for another walk. Just slowly build up how long you can walk each day, over time you will be able to go longer and longer. No need to rush it right now and go all out. Just ramp into it and take your time and enjoy your small victories each day. The key is to be consistent every day and they days will add up to months then years.

I’m 63 and vegan for 8 years. I will say this. Around age 50 is when most people start experiencing hormonal changes and a slower metabolism. So I would recommend starting to eliminate animal products from the diet. If not, a person may find that they are eating the way they have when they were younger, but still gaining weight. By the time one is 60, it is extremely difficult to lose weight.

    Well done!
I also found that eating pretty much the same things every day, and at around the same times, helped me to lose weight too. It sure made life AND calorie counting a lot simpler (and I used a scale so that I knew exactly how much a 100g of chicken was, or 30g of cheese, etc).
I'd load everything up with as many veggies as possible (they helped me feel full faster), and made sure to have adequate protein with every meal (it keeps your metabolism from slowing down, and helps you feel full longer).
And I made sure to always have the ingredients on hand for my quick, ready to make meal plan so that I wouldn't just start eating whatever I could get my hands on when I was hungry (and probably eat too much by doing so).
I also cut back A LOT on carbs (although I always had some carbs every day, mostly just a slice or two of very coarse bread with lots of seeds and whole grains, to help keep my innards moving properly - I'd initially tried to go almost no-carb and things were NOT good in that department).
It also helped that I didn't keep hardly anything in the cupboards that could really throw me off my meal plan and/or let me eat a ton of calories in a very short time.
But if I had a terrible craving that I just couldn't shake, and it lasted for more than a few days and was on my mind CONSTANTLY, I would allow myself to buy just the smallest possible portion of it that I could find (I never put any food on the absolute "can't have" list). But then I'd also forego eating something else that day in order to try and balance out the extra calories from the treat (it didn't always break exactly even of course, but I tried to not to go WAY over by eating all my regular meals PLUS a high calorie treat). One treat I did allow on a more frequent basis and in a small portion size (and without foregoing one of my regular meals) was Chapman's Frozen Yogurt. It comes in a variety of flavors and is virtually identical to ice cream but with WAY fewer calories and sugar, and more protein!!
And I took up walking (and plan to add resistance training/weight lifting soon).
And then of course once you've lost weight, the most important part is to keep eating (and exercising) pretty much the same way (i.e. do NOT go back to eating like you did before) so that you don't gain it all back!!!
Oh, and thanks for the guacamole tip, I didn't know it could be frozen!

You can do it. I agree there is a ton of info and it can be overwhelming. Just get started right now. You don't need to know everything and have the perfect game plan, just get started you can learn on the way. Start walking every day, walk for as long as you can every single day. when you are able to walk 1 hour start increasing your speed. I would walk 1 hour each day and to increase the difficulty I would just walk faster. Figure out how many calories you need a day using a TDE calculator, use the sedentary lifestyle option. Then track your calories and eat a little less than the TDE says you need. Learning about nutrition will help you stick with healthy eating, after I learned there is no way I would go back to eating what I use to. So to recap start today, walk daily, eat less, learn about nutrition.

Thank you for your common sense approach to seeing your physician, getting a physical, labs, establishing a baseline and then seeing a nutritionist. Really great and your daily approach is fantastic. I tend to need structure and follow the same meals instead of having all of these choices. That's where I get messed up. You have given me incentive to just do it. Thank you so much. Great job on your wellness journey and thanks for sharing it. I actually love unsweetened Greek yogurt. I love the creamiest and add garlic powder and veggies to it. Baby Cucumbers, radishes, green pepper, scallions...mix...delicious.

They were cooked in avocado oil. Small bag and kinda pricy but super crunchy and I was able to limit myself to a serving bc of how expensive they are!

You limit your food way too much. I lost the same amount of weight in the same time frame. I lost 130 pounds years back. Gained it back after mom's death, now I'm down 110. Almost where I was. But the health of choosing types of oil is way too excessive. Just limit bad carbs and fats. All you got to do. Get enough protein to be full, fast when you can. Save your calories when needed. You can eat bread. Can do low carb wraps, egg white crust, or low flour mixed with yogurt. But if you happy with your diet, stick with it. I couldn't do your diet. Sounds heartbreaking haha. I eat pizza, tacos, cakes pies. Whatever I want. I just make them low calorie big volume high protein
