    Notes about this video.
It is absolutely essential for me to share that I fast for 2 reasons:

    ● for cell repair and disease prevention.
If you have not read about autophagy, I encourage you to look it up.

    ● I find fasting extremely beneficial for my adventures where food can be limited - rowing the Atlantic, long distance hikes, my recent trip living on a desert island.
Fasting helps my body become fat-adapted which allows me to perform well in those kind of environments.
Also, a note to say I do not follow the ketogenic diet (I tried it many years ago for many months).
It doesn't suit me as I enjoy carrots, and beetroot, and other vegetables and fruits too much. I also found it anti-social (visiting friends for dinner etc) and my tummy wasn't happy (if you catch my drift 😉)

Hi Laura. I was watching your video while munching on a BIG bag of chips. I ballooned in the couple of days. Could be sleeping meds. Anyway, I started the LIFE app.3 days. To put that into the app, I have to press '+' 48 times? I can't put in duration anywhere? Weird, if not possible.

What surprises me is the elevated ketosis count even after 4 days of breaking your fast. So I was wondering if followed healthy keto diet after fast, might able to keep the ketosis high then. I tried to do 5&7 day fast couple of time and forced to break on the 3rd day as my work is quite demanding and stressful, experienced brain fog in between. Thanks Laura for your video, I will push myself to reach a 5 day next time, will take a life insurance before tha just incase.

I feel bad for our society that has been conditioned that we will “die if we don’t eat. I have fasted for years and grateful it has been a part of my journey. The longest I have done is 42 days. (Water fast) It’s crazy to watch my body GET HEALTHY. My skin never clears up till day 14 because there is so much JUNK in our foods!!!!! It’s definitely different for everyone but there are so many benefits to fasting that people can’t comprehend. If you struggle. Just make sure you make it through day three. Stay focused for that. We teach our body how to function and sometimes we need to RETRAIN IT. Eventually you won’t be hungry and you can literally feel your body get healthier and your brain clearer along with more energy each day as you go forward. You got this. I will be 62 in February. I’ve been fasting since my late 30’s and it’s been the great secret to helping my body be HEALTHY!!!!!!Find out for yourself!!!!!

I'm 61 and I just finished a 5 day water fast so today was the first day I could eat. I wasn't eating a lot of calories before the fast, and I was eating low carb too. I walked 3 miles every morning, and often took a shorter walk in the afternoon. The first 4 days were no problem, I didn't feel super hungry and drinking water eliminated the feeling. The fifth day was very difficult. I had very low energy and was much hungrier. But that fifth day was very warm, almost 90 degrees, and the other days were only in the 60s-70s, so I blame it on the heat.
One thing I want to warn people about when you start eating again is that you need to eat very low or no fat and build up until your body can handle it. Otherwise you'll be having a lot of diarrhea every time you eat.

I love that you don’t follow a keto diet, and enjoy your fruits and vegetables. Im a bit like that too, I’ve tried keto and carnivore but I can’t stick to it because I like my vegetables, salad and fruit. I’ve settled more on low carb, and a bit more protein and moderate or low fat, and now getting back into the fasting. I love your reaction to eating at the end, there’s nothing quite like it, when you have those first few mouthfuls, food never tastes so good after a long fast. Thanks 😊

I am 61 and currently doing two 36-hr fasts per week. Hopefully that's enough time to get cell repair going! Your other video inspired me to keep going~~it's really not that hard (it was harder for me doing the 5:2 where I ate some calories on the "fast days"~~much easier for me to abstain and just get through the day with water and such). Thanks for your wonderful videos!

I started out wanting to do a 72 hour fast, but since my friend is fasting for ten days I've decided to increase my fasting time to five days to keep him company for a little extra time. My longest fast prior to this was 46 hours into a 48 hour fast. I learned from that experience to drink more water with electrolytes and to take 1/4 tsp salt twice a day. I have remained active for the first two days - walking and weights, but may take it a bit easier today and tomorrow judging from your video, but I'll see how I feel. I'm excited to go a little longer, but my sleep has been terrible, so hopefully that improved. 57 hours in!

I was spending $10 every single day on junk. Now I don't do that at all. The longer I go, the more my cravings disappear. They come back more around the menstrual time but again, manageable. What you said about "where food was limited" reminded me of a famous female American hiker from way back in the day. To be honest, you were kind of reminding me of her, anyway. She was interviewed once about idea of taking the exact right foods/amounts, and al these rules for hiking and such. She laughed it off, said something like she takes a few tins with her in her rucksack, eats them when she is hungry and if she runs out, she doesn't eat until she gets some place where she can get more food. I can't remember her name, anymore, but I have read things about her several times and always have her in the back of my mind, somewhere.

I’m about to do a 21 day fast starting on the 12th. We started prepping for it on March 28th. It’s the “A Healthy Alternative” by Chris James & 5 other coaches. Then you do a supervised refeed and follow up to maintain your results. Some people have already lost 15 lbs just doing the prep. I lost 7 so far. I’ve always approached fasting from low carb/keto. They use high water content veggies and fruits to prepare. Surprised that I haven’t had sugar spikes…I’m diabetic (yes my doctor knows I’m doing it and feels it could be beneficial with the autophagy that will happen). I’ve made big lists of things to do so I don’t think about food. I’ve done several extended fasts so I’m pretty prepared mentally. I always feel amazing when I finish them. I thought I would try this approach since it’s basically a step by step 60 days and you are doing it as a group and the coaches answer you back immediately. So far very impressed with his program.

My advice to anyone who is contemplating doing a fast for the first time, would be to wean yourself off caffeine / sugary junk the week before you start the fast. I would have found it much easier if I had done that, rather than going cold turkey after the Christmas excess.

Great video Laura, really loved the way you presented the information. Have only managed a 48hr fast so far, but my joints felt reborn and singing voice sounded so clear. Look forward to watching more content from you. ATB Steve

I sound like such a newbie compared to others, but I am only on my 5 th. day, and I can not wait for this 5 day fast to end. I am suffering and feel so miserable and hungry! Congrats on completing your fast.

I'm on day 8 of a fast to heal a gum abscess without seeing a dentist or taking antibiotics. There was a marked improvement from day 2, and although the swelling and soreness had completely gone a couple of days ago I'm going a bit longer to make sure it does not reignite!

@@elkpaz560 Thank you, I certainly did: a teaspoon of cold pressed organic olive oil, an avocado with a little salt 2 hours later, and broccoli with butter a couple of hours after that. All went smoothly and it feels amazing to have first hand incontrovertible proof of the incredible power of fasting.

@@JagoffCitizen That's a great reseed - I'll do that next time. Sadly all this is new to me - my abcess lead to hours of discomfort and pain in 'the chair.' but feel lucky to know all this now.

This was a very interesting video to watch. I’m on a 16:8 daily schedule with a 24h fast once a week, 48h once a month. I am now preparing for a three day fast for next week and want to use that experience to enter into a 5 day fast later on in the year. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I like the app you use, it looks good and seems to offer the same information for less than my current app. Thanks again for sharing.

Laura you're an amazing human and I love all of your videos. They are so informative and you're great at explaining the technical stuff that can sometimes otherwise be hard to understand. Thank you for everything! Keep up the great work.

I did my first extended fast (4 days at New Year) basically because of your previous 7 day fast video although I did also research it well (Love Dr Fung) and had done IF in the past. It really kick started my year so well and I am now happy, doing IF again and running again. So thanks! June I am doing Whole30 as my eldest has been having acne skin issues and I have finally convinced her to give it a go, along with the rest of the family to see if certain foods are causing it. I'm glad you included some 'prep' to this 5 day fast, I think prep is sometimes the most important thing to help with success. I'm now prepping for the Whole 30 with introducing new recipes, cutting down on some things and making pledges to get up and do everyone a good breakfast (I will put mine aside for lunch) so that we can stick to the plan. PS I also love your 5km every day and think it may be in my future too.

Hey Alison, it's so cool to hear about your Whole30 plans. I hope it all goes well and I would love to get an update from you. I hope it works for your eldest - I had acne in my twenties and it made me very sad. What a kind and supportive mum you are 💖

I watched your seven day fast video and it inspired me! I’m on day three, four days to go. I feel great!
On the end of day two I got an intense headache that lasted 15 hours until I took some headache medicine. Other than that it’s been surprisingly manageable! I feel a bit shaky at times and a little weak/generally not feeling good but over all my energy seems higher than usual.

Thank you for ACTUALLY filming in the same lighting and clothes so we can get a more accurate view of how the fast changed your body. So many people make it hard for you to tell how their body has been affected physically.

I’m almost done day two of my fast. I was intending to make it only 24 hours but I feel great, so I’ve carried on. Not sure if I’ll make it to five days, I’m still seeing how my body is reacting to it. I thought it would be a terrible experience but it’s quite good so far. I think it’s because I’m still drinking (black) coffee and taking electrolytes.

I tried a 3 day water fast and surprisingly, hunger and cravings completely disappeared from time to time and it’s less then when I eat 3x a day. I felt euphoric sometimes, but all those pizza ads on Instagram made me break it on the 3rd day 😢 Will try again tomorrow, thank you for this video.
