MY RECENT 5 DAY FAST, taking the lessons from this one. WATCH IT HERE: ruclips.net/video/Cx16LaxqoO0/видео.html
    Notes about this video:
1a. I often get asked why I didn't take supplements, electrolytes, or minerals during this fast.
I followed the advice from the book I refer to in this video which said 7 days was ok with no electrolytes (page 49).
1b. I do my challenges (and fasts) to build resilience. I take part in endurance sports and I want to know my body can cope and adapt to challenging situations. Sometimes that means not having food for extended periods of time, including supplements.
1c. I also wanted to replicate a complete fast of nothing but water, to really strip back - it's a kind of spiritual, primitive reason. For me at this time, this method suited my needs, however, others may benefit from supplementing during fast.
    2. My re-feed consisted of half a bowl of homemade squash soup and some fruit.
The food over the next few days could have been better for sure. We do not usually buy so much processed food (there was way more fruit and veg than I showed in this video) but I'll admit it was hard not to want to celebrate. Most of it sat in the fridge and freezer for weeks as I didn't want to it eat it 😆
    3. I took plenty of rest during this fast, despite me not showing it. Filming me laying and sitting around for 7 days wouldn't have made a very interesting video.
(ref. page 233 of the book stating usual activities including an exercise program helps maintain muscle and bones)
    4. I take back my comment about fasting not being good primarily for weight loss - there some inspirational stories here in the comments. I suppose my main message was to do it for the right reason and with care x
I really appreciate all the supportive comments here 🙏🏼
I do try to read them all, but forgive me if I do not reply as there are many.
If you do a 7 day fast, I really recommend the book 'The Complete Guide to Fasting' by Jason Fung MD.
It gives all advice and knowledge to support you during your fast.
I am not a professional, just someone trying my best - sharing my journey and experience.

      Comment on point 1c:
What kind of water were you drinking? Natural, clean water already contains minerals, most of what we drink does not, and therefore further depletes us (through osmosis in the intestines). So adding minerals might actually be a more natural thing. Drinking up to four liters of "demineralized" water will drain your mineral supplies and could cause more discomfort, and harm, than needed.

@@lightdelight1 You may have lost weight using that diet, but that doesn't mean that it is healthy. You don't have to do too much to lose weight, I agree, but the way I would go about it is muscle training so that you gain muscle which will increase your passive energy consumption, leading to more calories used, maintain a healthy diet in a way that you still get all nutrients that your body needs, but either eat in small portions in order to decrease the amount of calories or also try to eat some food that will make you feel full, but don't have much calories in them. Lastly, cardio. It is one of the best, and healthiest way of properly increasing your calorie consumption and losing weight. However, if your diet is poor, with these instructions you will most likely end up losing muscle mass which will hurt you even more in the long run, but please, don't go around giving these poor health advices like telling people to eat only one or two things. You may hurt someone without actually knowing about it.

After I was diagnosed with breast cancer and they started scaring me that it was a rare aggressive form and I needed an urgent operation. But I didn't panic, I studied everything about therapeutic fasting. Firstly, you don't start fasting after a full bowl of food. Secondly, before, during and for some time after the correct EXIT from fasting, you need to do cleansing - enemas. Since I had cancer, I took soda baths. I fasted for 5 days without water, you have to spit out saliva, you can't swallow it. This type of fasting was very easy for me. And with this method of fasting, 1 day is equal to 2 days on water. There was no weakness, no feeling of hunger. Then I decided to fast on water as long as I could. These are completely different things!! I only lasted 4 days, because I started to feel hungry. A month before the fast, I switched to raw vegetable food, a little fruit.
I immediately refused the operation (Montreal, Canada). I was a vegetarian for 9 months, I did not exclude eggs, on the contrary, I sometimes ate 4-5 pieces a day without any problem. I was 63 years old then. After 9 months of cleaning, vegetarian diet (with a lot of vitamins and minerals in the form of food additives), the tumor in my breast decreased from 7.3 mm to 2.1 mm. I absolutely refuse to do a mammogram - only an ultrasound! Only we ourselves can take care of our health. ☝️🤗

I’ve done fasting for a couple of decades. The first couple of days are fairly easy for me. It’s the third day that I need to get through once I’m into day, four and five I feel empowered. I’ve never gone longer than 6 almost 7 days water only. At my age 68, I’ve stopped doing longer fasts. If I’m having sinus troubles or feel myself coming down with something I go to just liquids only. I was kind of surprised to hear you had an increase in muscle mass so. I’ll have to explore that more. I have always felt that spiritual lift several days into a fast. It is critical. How do you eat? Coming out of a fast as well. Sugary foods like fruits and of course, any process is out. The experts on fasting are True North Health Center in Santa Rosa, California. It’s good to hear your feedback as someone who is physically fit and active.💪🏻

I'm 64. The best fasting I've found is quite easy. I needed to drop twenty pounds a few years ago. I started simply not eating after four oclock(PM). Ate whatever I wanted, but heavier early. Then i dropped back to not after 3, then eventually not after two. And just take a walk at nite, maybe a little sip of apple vinegar once inna while. Maybe once a week i would have a four or five oclock dinner with the family. That's it.Lost 25 lbs. Stayed down around two hundred lbs. for a couple years. (I'm over 6'2) Covid hit, and in the 1 1/2 yrs put it all back on, but I'm not worried, cuz i know how to do it again. And its easier than rowing across a dam ocean, that's fer sure. Think about it. If you stop at 2 and don't eat again til 8am,that's an 18 hr. fast. Don't eat til ten its 20 hrs. And you do NOT wake up hungry. Its easy.

What helped me was to keep my mind off food, I plan physical activities duing the fast. Day 1, I washed every wall in my home especially the kitchen and bathroom. Day 2, I washed my cars and my neighbor's cars. Day 3, Went for a 4 hour hike in the woods. Day 4, Washed all the window at home. I have a big and persistent appetite, thus distration is my strategy. I did it to address my constant tiredness, craving for sugar and brain fogginess and starve out any cancer cells lurking. It worked a year ago and I'm due to do it agin soon.

I lasted 6 days and at the last day I didn’t felt like eating. Food smelled like nothing to me. I thought I was never going to get hungry again. When I finally ate, I got full with a small portion. In 6 months I lost 70 pounds with Intermittent Fasting and Carnivore diet.
I still got 100 pounds more to go, just living one day at the time. Completing my daily goals, Trying to stay disciplined and committed. Staying Motivated is definitely difficult, more if you have bad habits, but completing daily goals like “ how much I allow my self to watch tv or go with friends before I do my goal. In short words “ if I want to watch tv, relax, just fun time. First complete my goal (gym) then reward myself after my daily goal is complete. That’s how you stay motivated,
    DONT PAMPER YOURSELF!
Note: I did it because I was to fat, to heavy, to unhappy and miserable. But there is a point you might feel like cheating with a nice meal, and you know it might get you out of ketosis but, it’s okay! Do it but always bring your self back because doesn’t matter if you gain weight is about how healthy you are. Intermittent Fasting is not to lose weight!
Thank you for this video. I’ll probably fast for 10 days! Wish me luck 🍀

There are some guidance but no strict rules Usually people get up in the morning bathe and pray then go to the temple (if possible) and in the evening also we listen to the song and pray before bed. Keep your mind focused all day with good thoughts words and acts which is important. good thoughts. You fast for six days, depending on your health and what you can do some do complete fasting for six days some eat fruit and mild in the evening after prayers and some stick to one meal in the evening and on 7th-day people break fast and go and see the festival of god killing the demon (ego) and it is interesting to watch the metaphoric drama after killing they release a live cockerel ( it means even after you tried to kill the ego it escapes and come in a different form!)
I just did the fasting for the seven days and for the first 24 hours I did not take any water but one has to be careful water fasting. I did not feel at all difficult to follow the fasting and I had more energy and awareness and did not crave or feel hungry. @@elizabethdegroot89

I started out with the intentions of doing 3-4 days. I wanted to go easy on myself. I read that the body begins to detox after 3 days and that I may experience some flu like symptoms. I wasn't working at the time so I figured now is as good enough time as any. I did feel sick on the 4th day. I had a headache, I felt lethargic and a little nauseous. At this point as far a feeling hungry, my first and 3 day were my worst. By the 4th day, I didn't have an appetite. I really felt bad.
By the 5th day I was perking up and hunger disappeared. I had energy, my skin was starting to get a little glow.
The rest of my journey was more of the same. Some days I was encouraged by the weight I was losing, the energy I had and finally no more brain fog. Other days I would tell myself, tomorrow is my last day but the next day I'd push it another day.
This was hard because I threw 3 dinner parties for my husband and kids who were all born in July.
I lost a total of 22 lbs, though I have gained some back, it didn't come back fast.
I gradually starting sipping broth to cabbage soup. Things that I didn't think were sweet before the fast was like syrup after the fast. I couldn't tolerate sweets for a very long time.
I had high blood pressure, borderline diabetes, high cholesterol before the fast all of which corrected itself.
No videos were recorded but I am thinking about doing it again. I'll consider that.

This experience gave me prospective about how overrated food is in opur culture, and the confidence that I can live better and longer eating a third of what I was use to eat.

I started doing fasts years ago because of Myasthenia Gravis. I had crippling fatigue and got too weak to walk up stairs. Arthritis in both hips and shoulders. Severe chronic pain. I began weening sugar out of my diet and eating large salad bowels of mixed greens (Terry Wahls Reverses MS With Diet), Once you cut out sugar, your tastes will adjust. Then the greens won't taste so bitter. I started doing fasts gradually by reducing my eating window gradually, a couple of hours every week. Then 24hr - 3 days (it gets really easy once your body gets used to it and isnt scared you're going to die). I was in the best shape of my life and my energy was through the roof (Better then it was when I was a teenager) I started doing small walks after dinner ( to burn up glucose and get into fasted state sooner) before long I was walking 6 miles a day and I got down to 170 lbs (I was 220) My skin and face looked 10 years younger. So many minor health problems just cleared up by themselves. I had been taking Ambien nightly just to get half decent sleep. BUt I was now sleeping 5 hours a night. I would just wake up fully alert and FULLY rested. I couldn't even keep track of everything. Even an ugly skin tag that was starting to grow near my eye I noticed had just fell off by itself. It's really astounding what your body is capable of fixing on it's own if it gets the chance to repair itself (Autophagy). Your body can not go into deep repair mode UNTIL it is in a fasted state. AND if you give it enough nutrition, (TONS of Kale salads! ) it will begin to switch off certain genes and chronic conditions will go away ( Nutrigenomics). Search YT for Dr. Rhondra Patrick and Dr. Terry Wahls (She did it).

I've been fasting for years and can highly recommend for all the reasons stated here and more. Autophagy is real and growing in popularity. One caveat, i would not go into 7 day fast from the go. Try daily intermittent, grow that to a day or two and then extend it. For me, after 48hrs i can tell the difference in mood and all sorts of other things. Don't cheat with "things" you've been told won't break your fast. Water only. Tough at first but worth it. Once you go through a few cycles, you don't even think about the lack of food, you will start to crave how good how you felt and will react to repeat it. Good luck to you if you're trying or thinking of it.

    • @joost1183
      @joost1183 2 года назад +8

Also, try the first daily intermittents up to 24h when eating a big dinner meal of protein/ fats from natural sources, minimal carbs at around 5-6 PM. Natural satiety will then help you to get your first experience 'easier' up to 24 hrs. I think it's important to keep your mineral levels normalized. If all you do during a fast is drink lots of water, those minerals get flushed out of your system. In my experience this can intensify brain fog, headaches and that feeling of low energy. At the very least, drink mineral water. Ideally purchase mineral supplement packets made for fasting and mix them in with your water or black coffee. I hope this helps for others!

You should have enough electrolytes to handle a few days of fasting ... if youre already deficient in those however a fast might be a lot harder. @@waffle_chair9269There seems to be some confusion that needs clearing up. Don’t worry - This isn’t just me being a condescending smug online guru wan*er. People NEED to know this stuff before attempting any kind of fasting.
Electrolytes are just minerals in your blood [and other bodily fluids] that carry an electric charge.
They basically help transmit electricity ⚡️ throughout your brain and body. Simple, right?
That’s why they’re important. You need electrolytes like your iPhone needs charge.
The most important ones in terms of fasting, in order of importance are:
      1. Sodium
      2. Potassium
These two minerals (electrolytes) act in opposition. Think of them like the positive and negative terminals of a battery. Anyway….
Sodium you can get easily from salt, but the brand “Lo-salt” has a good amount of potassium in there.
Otherwise just buy electrolyte powder (don’t get ones with a bunch of crap added because that’ll just trigger a ghrelin spike (the hunger hormone) undoing your progress.
I’ve fasted with and without topping up me electrolytes and it made a huge difference almost instantly. I could go to the gym and lift a decent amount of weight, maybe with a slight loss in strength but nothing like what you might think.
Our bodies are way more resilient than we’ve been led to believe. We’re not living meal to meal. The body is way WAY more clever than that

      @CursedWheelieBin Год назад +1

@@Padraigp Aye it can be difficult. I’ve only done a 72hr fast. Felt fine throughout all of it. In fact, I felt pretty damn good. Breaking the fast was the tricky part cos I sh@t like a rescue centre greyhound after eating some rather irresponsible things😂
Anyway, my point was that adversity or inconvenience is all the justification some people need to avoid doing it altogether.
However, that’s never enough. When they see people successfully fasting and getting results they have an insecure moment, react emotionally and decide they wanna invent unseen and imagined catastrophes that might happen. Words like “disorder” and “obsessive” shoot from the hip.
Prolonged fasting is like a factory reset.
I used to be the dumbass wannabe bodybuilder eating 6 times per day, anxious about missing a meal because it might sabotage my neurotic quest to build an impractically large and detailed physique.
I discovered that we’re powered by a lot more than just the last thing we ate. We’re not as mechanical as all that.
I’m still a dumbass though, but a lot leaner, more energetic and managed to retain a lot of muscle. Way more than I have in the past from typical dieting

Hi Laura, congrats on finishing what you started. Mom enjoyed tempting you the entire time. I could tell. Here's a tip from a friend of mine who is a legendary "Faster". His words are this= Each month if you simply do a 36 hour fast it will reset your body, tastebuds, addictions to sugar, salt, coffee and reset your liver. His suggestion is to drink no less than 1 gallon of water per day. This will help push out toxins from the body. He said he lost 1 pound per day on his fast. He did up to 17 days of fasting at one time. His friends wife did a 7 day fast and felt so much better, then went on to fast for 138 days. Her fast cured her over weight syndrome and she broke the need for a lot of medications she had been taking. FYI- A simple tool in the Christian Bible speaks of fasting. A more in depth look into this reveals that if you fast when you have all the means in the world to eat as much as you want and pray through out the fasting you may receive the "Holy Spirits" Guidance during the process. This is also why "Monks" do long term fasting up in the mountains while they pray/meditate. Same goal is enlightenment. "My 2 cents"

everyone has a different 'NEAT' non exercise activity thermogenisis. 80 percent is too high. Thats your base calories to maintain body function. Starving will just increase the hormone ghrelin which makes you need to eat more than you really need on a starve or 'fast' The brain suffers the most. Digestion is the first to stop, and then the bloating and tummy pain... ohhh

    • @NaturallyDOPE0990
      @NaturallyDOPE0990 2 года назад +15

I’m not sure if it’s 80% but it’s high up there. This is why a lot of people end up “emotional eating”. Notice when you are sad, the thought of eating doesn’t cross your mind. Or if you eating and get sad, your appetite is gone? That’s because the body can’t process food and still have the energy to be sad. Or experience every emotion. So people literally “eat their feelings” because the body can’t do both at the same time.

Well, the brain uses 20% of your energy overall so I doubt 80% is used for digestion. The rest of your organs have to function. Your muscles have to function. I have seen the digestion estimate usually put in the 10 to 15% range.

How to avoid sugar withdrawals: Eat a ketogenic diet for two weeks, 2 meals a day, with no snacking between meals. Then try eating every other day on week 3 once a day - you will not experience head hurting or sugar withdrawals at this point because your brain will be receiving its energy from ketones and not glucose. On week 4, try fasting for 5-7 days. You will find it quite easy to go on with your daily life (I am not doing hard labor or heavy lifting btw) with no hunger. I am on day 10.5 fasting (water and buble only) and will be breaking the fast in two days to acclimate the digestive system for food again in time for the super bowl :)

This is my I first 7 day fast this year. I did it last year and I had amazing results. I’m currently 81 hours in… the struggle is real. Water and green tea only. Maybe 3-4 hours of sleep last night. Started at 208lbs… down to 199lbs. So I’ve lost 9 pounds. I promise after this fast I’ll never go back to eating the same way again. Pray for me to finish. Thanks

@@mariejane1567 I was 276 lbs. in July of 2020 & suddenly dropped 20 lbs without trying. As a nurse I knew that was a bad sign, so I discovered I had become type 2 diabetic. August 28th, 2020, I went hardcore keto, less than 20 g Carbs per day & by December 1st, I was 200 lbs. but reached a plateau. January 1st of 2020, I did a whole month of Carnivore & got down to 188 lbs. Then I had to stop taking my blood pressure and diabetic meds because I didn’t need them anymore and fainted twice from low blood sugar that dropped my blood pressure. I still have a dent in my forehead where I face planted on the back of my dining room chair.
By January of 2021, I had fallen off the wagon and got back up to 197, but by early February I got back down to 178 lbs. I have fluctuated between 178 & 191 by doing OMAD Monday through Thursday and then I would gain between 7 to 10 lbs over the weekend, if I didn’t stick to Keto.
Anyway, I have experimented off & on with Keto intermittent fasting and OMAD but fell off the wagon again over the holidays.
I was eating like a maniac for a few weeks, and got back up to 197 lbs. last Thursday. That’s when I started back on OMAD but I haven’t really been doing keto, just eating whatever I want for one hour a day. Last night I was back down to 188 lbs. So I am on the right track and feeling great. I should add, I have also been putting 1 Tbsp of MCT Oil in my bullet proof coffee that I only drink during my one hour eating window, which is also when I take my vitamins. That may be why I am feeling clear headed and alert.
This way I am not Yo-Yoing anymore and hopefully just stay at a steady pace until I reach my ideal weight and hopefully maintain it. Or at least fluctuate between 150 & 160 instead of 180 to 190 ish.
I don’t feel too deprived when I’m seeing results. It’s so easy it’s almost like magic. 😎
If I can do it, anyone can, really. Good luck! 🍀👍🏻

Kudos to you Laura!!! Your video is the best I have seen ever on the proper reasons for, and the experience on a 7 day water fast. I am in my 70th year of living and I just so happened to just finished my 7 days yesterday . Had to cut it short by just a few hours because I had engagement that made me cut it short. I have been intermittent fasting for about 6 years now and the past 3 years I do an extended fast for at least 7 days. the longest I made it was 14 days. I have also tried hard dry fasting twice...and each time, I, like you, come out feeling sooooo absolutely rejuvenated. My body is always detoxed. Many things, each time, get healed, energy level just soars, and clarity is amazing. so many many benefits. I love your comment of doing fasting for the right reasons. Weight loss should not be the sole reasons. My bottom line is to stay healthy for as long as possible. and this adds to the equation. I have no health issues...not diabetic, no insulin issues all my years. I am overweight but I blame that on the pandemic because before... IT..., I was 50 pounds lighter. I lost 13 plus pounds as of yesterday, the end of the 7 day. I feel SUPER GREAT. Thanks again for a sweet video. Keep up the great work and example you set.

I have never done a full fast. I had challenged myself to a 5 day green juice cleanse but on the 5th day I said to myself " let's see if I can go one more day" and that turned in 30 days. Working full-time ( at work they had a free hot buffet and I was never tempted) I even went to the movies once and did not have buttered popcorn for the first time ever! , I had plenty of energy, zero cravings. My skin was clear , eyes bright, teeth whiter. I believe I had never felt better in years. I was 45 at the time. I am thinking I would like to do a fast like this one. Yes, I also understand that some people do not have the choice of food. I have asked some people in my life not to say they are starving because many people have no idea what it is to really starve. thank you sharing your fast experience with us. Take care. Oh I forgot to mention that I lost 30lbs.

    in brief:
The video try documents her experience of not eating any food for seven days.
    1. **Introduction and Warning**: Laura starts by emphasizing the importance of seeking medical advice before attempting such a fast, especially for those with eating disorders or body image issues.

    2. **Reasons for Fasting**: Laura was curious about the experience and potential health benefits of a seven-day fast. She mentions potential benefits like lowering cholesterol, reducing inflammation, reversing aging, and preventing diseases. She also shares her personal health issues, such as stomach pains, burping, sugar cravings, and extreme tiredness.
    3. **Journey**:
    - **Initial Days**: Laura starts her fast and documents her body measurements. She feels normal initially due to her practice of intermittent fasting. As she progresses, she begins to feel the effects of glycogen depletion and enters ketosis.
    - **Middle Phase**: Days two and three are challenging. She feels cold, lethargic, and experiences a white tongue (a sign of ketosis). Despite the challenges, she remains determined.
    - **Later Days**: By day six and seven, Laura feels euphoric, with increased clarity and energy. She attributes this to the body's protein conservation phase and the process of autophagy, where cells undergo repair.
    4. **Results**:
    - **Body Composition**: Laura lost 4.55 kilograms, her body fat dropped by 5.7%, and her muscle mass slightly increased. She emphasizes that fasting for weight loss might not be sustainable as the weight can return.
    - **Health Benefits**: Post-fast, Laura's stomach issues resolved, her appetite normalized, and she felt more energetic and clear-headed.
    5. **Conclusion**: Laura reflects on the experience, emphasizing the appreciation she gained for food and her lifestyle. She mentions that while the fast was challenging, it was also a privilege, as many people around the world face hunger without a choice.
    6. **Tips for Fasting**: Laura shares tips for those considering a fast, such as having a clear reason, staying active, drinking plenty of water, getting adequate sleep, and reminding oneself that the challenging moments will pass.
    7. **Final Thoughts**: Laura expresses gratitude for the experience and encourages viewers to be safe and informed if they decide to try fasting. She also mentions her upcoming challenges and encourages viewers to subscribe to her channel.
The video ends with Laura thanking her viewers for watching.
