As a spectator from the future this show is fucking incredible. The Viola Lee Blues is truly something special. As awesome as the long blistering jam is, there were multiple times in my opinion they seemed lost and i thought they were starting to abandon ship and move to a new song, but the made their way back. The peak of the jam gets so wild Steve sits down and i'm wondering how the fuck are they gonna get out of this funk. Phil marches a four count, thank god everyone was looking, and they made it back into the final verse masterfully. It was like spectating a sport and they scored big time!
Fuck Yes. When Steve sits down with The Solution it's over
This is well written
I was on the rail for all three of these shows. Three of the greatest concerts of my life.
lucky u woulda been amazing
Merry Jerrymas/Phishmas!
I agree--three of the best concerts I have seen in 50 trips around the sun and the absolute best three night stand of all time, imho. I have seen many two night runs of Jerry, Panic, etc, at Warfield, (never caught GD there) but was at all three nights, never a bad night at Jerry's house, and these three nights were just off the chain.
I've been searching for this. One of the best shows I've ever been to.
I can't begin to imagine how intense and incredible that would be.
Front row balcony f😮r me! 2 of the 3 , the crowd control crew ( usher's) were directing anyone walkin towards our dancing space away with their flashlights! And smoking bowls with us at set break!!! What a moment in Rick and roll history huh?!?!?
The next thing you know, you MF RICK ROLLED! oh how we used to ROLL...with "left handed MOLLY" the OG molecule! Thank 🎉 family
I love how kimock pulls out these amazing metaphysical guitars out of nowhere it seems. Just a wizard with a never ending bag of tricks
He’s the GOAT
It was an old Gibson SG with mini humbuckers last time ...
Today is as good a day as any to give this another spin. The best incarnation of the band post Jerry.
These 6 sets are some of the best improvisational rock music ever created.
There's this mischievous slant to how Phil, Trey, Kimock, Page and Molo push each other back into the jam over and over again. The best of both worlds.
The Viola Lee is the crown jewel. Everything connected to Dark Star on the 17th is right there with it.
+nich obert Page's piano ROLLS
Certainly rates " Beyond Description ". 😉
This is the crowning achievement from all mankind right here
It's obvious we we all need some more Kimock Anastasio before it's all said and done
Don't care what anyone says , that viola Lee blues like the most supreme Jam conceived
Not to take anything away from Trey at all (the communication between all musicians this entire run was majestic), but Kimock's playing on Shakedown beginning at 55:04 (when he's still supporting Trey's solo) is so sweet and perfect. From there, his own solo launches the jam into the stratosphere. When Steve sits down, look out! And yes, Molo was/is one of the most underrated drummers out there.
Kimock is definitely the star of these shows imo. Ive seen kimock in various bands and its always a good show but these three nights and without a doubt his best work .
I doubt kimock expected trey to be so damn good . When kimock is inspired and is allowed to let loose , he is a magical player.
He seems so comfortable and just has a arsenal of tricks up his sleeve , its an absolute shame him and Phil couldn't work things out
At 22 minutes in, I noticed that I was floating six inches above the comfy chair ! Much thanks and love. Fukengrüven !
My goodness, I just hope Trey can be this loose with Bobby come Chicago. Kimock and Trey played so loose and free for these shows...their guitars just soar. You have to give the chairman of the boards a lot of credit too. He provides incredible support for these two guitar greats...
Molo is one of the greatest and most under appreciated!
student702 Molo is a Monster check out Moonalice, his current project.
Yep. I'm hip! My favorite Molo stuff is with Bruce Hornsby from late 80's until that fateful time I had tickets to see them in York, PA (after Hot House, before Spirit Trail), and the show got cancelled. Got to see him drum at a Furthur Fest, but they weren't Hornsby songs.
Post Jerry perfection 👌
Trey .. note and pitch perfect on NFA... Thank god these shows are available in awesome quality on archive ... download the Miller versions
This is some of the best percussion you will ever see.. this was it
Yep
I butter my bread with this all damn day !
If I've seen a thousand shows and fifty stood out, this would be one of them. Phil's been killing it ever since.
51:32 through 52:55 is the reason why Trey is the PERFECT choice for the GD 50th shows..and the bit that starts at 52:34 is fucking filthy
Alex Bieger 1:19:49
Alex Bieger Nah - John K. Is the better choice.
JoshDone funny joke. I'm assuming you didn't hear any of the Chicago shows yet
Alex Bieger Pales in comparison as to where Kimock takes the jam. Typical
Dan W they aren't even comparable. Totally subjective. Kimock's section is funky, but its noodly and totally stagnant. Trey's solo is dynamic and driven. Tension and release at its finest. Agree to disagree I guess.
Tyler Penn, your my hero! T.Y. For this GRATE Phun!
I love the shots of the legendary Steve Parrish nodding his head in approval as they jam Viola Lee Blues to heaven and back - if it impresses Jerry's personal roadie and best friend, then you know its good
It impressed me. It's good.
57:11 rhythm at 57:38 is unreal. SK is the man. Also shit really peaks at 21:10 with Trey doing some awesome rhythm.
that viola lee blues jam was more free and openly improvised than any dead jam i've ever heard
1974 would like to have a word with you, but I get the direction your heading, this is great stuff
They Grateful Dead didn’t know how to do exploratory improvisation.
3 of the best shows i have ever seen. loved every second of it. incredible music through and through. i wish the post GD musical landscape could have sustained this quality. it's kind of surreal to see the video after all of these years. thanks for the upload.
Peak Trey, meet Peak Kimock
Best post jerry sets imo
Thanks for the SBD match! Love it!
This was my first Phil and Friends Show. The Viola opener and the Mr. Tambourine Man closer....at the Warfield. One of the best.
Just spotted Steve Parish in the background getting down!
this is the grooviest, funkiest and by far filthiest shakedown i have ever heard
I like the way Trey is watching and listening!
he is being shown the chords to unbroken chain in the key Phil wants to sing it in. I made a shirt for Summer 2002 Trey band tour from this photo and the back said "Unbroken Chain"
Got so lost in the music I lost all concept of time. I looked at the time and it had been 11 minutes. Could have been 5 hours for all I knew. So good
I know what you mean man, I'm 45 min in and lost all track of time
great GOD, a showdown!!! I love this RUclips thing more than much all, BEAUTIFUL MUSIC!!!
Holy freakin Kimock throughout but check 57:02-59:11 - particularly at 57:38 Just sick stuff
i was at this show , Phil had just got better and god it was beauttiful
WOW.Didnt know this existed...Thanks!!!
My 3 favorite musicians... Incredible to see Kimock, Anastasio and Lesh on the same stage... Is this real life?
Kimock’s slide solo on Row Jimmy, Treys solo on Shake Down 👌🥀
Ive always noticed how Sanity has that Row Jimmy riff. And now its full circle hearing Trey and Page playing Row jimmy
Big Steve diggin it at 6:42
thanks for this TP
What a jam on the first song.
Anyone else think trey's vocals are especially strong for these shows ? This way he carries this row Jimmy with his voice is beautiful. Soft but confident.
Right. I think he knows that he is doing what JG could not live on to do. Trey knows.
Lead guitarists/singers…we don’t really know what they offer until they are in a different band (JG as the best example). ⚡️Get out and row!⚡️
@@gretchenpike4990 huh ? i mean thats the role of a singer in general when playing a dead tune. a little confused by your comments. lead guitarists and singers get the spotlight in rock nd roll , so we usually do know what they have to offer .
i wish the other nights would show up on the tube
tx
SO GRATEFUL NIGHT!! I WANT TO WARFIELD TIME ONE MORE!
Missed these. The best shows since the boys were together.
Lil' grin 56:36, while Trey responds to Kimock's call is so great.
Goddammmnn this is so good.
BRB was NO snoozer here. Lesh looks at trey at one point and was just smilin. 😁😁
The first 98 minutes are my favorite
Nothing left to do but smile , smile, smile.
I am sure Jerry was after these three shows!!!!!
I was at redrocks tapeing phil freinds steve and waren ,guys from moe summer Sessions
Real phreakin good, keep this one up.

Uh, why didn't they call themselves "Phlesh"?
hahaha
5:39 we love you steve
This was such a great time. The first real combination of two of my favorite bands of all time. So glad to have been at all three nights. Thanks for the share. If you have similar vids of the other nights I would love to see. I know Eric video'd them from the soundboard area but they have not been released.
Kimock and Trey together , simply sublime, when they played with Phil in 1999. I think Trey is a perfect choice to carry some of the weight of Fare thee Well on his shoulder strap. Trey will step up and make Jerry proud. Trey is not a copy cat he will be himself, and play dead the way he saw it and feels it, he was after all a deadhead, was seriously inspired by GD and went to many shows back in 80's. Yes, there are a few others that could do a fine job, I grant you that.. Who knows maybe a few guests will be invited? Just I hope not too many on the stage at one time, the purity of one lead and one rhythm guitar is all this music really needs. Just trust Phil and the boys, with their choices, keep an open mind, the music we love will fill the air with whatever the fans reflect back at these final shows. Maybe Fare Thee Well shows will do a free live stream on youtube like Coachella 2015 is doing now? AC DC rocked the Calif desert last night!
What a time
A+
Is Kimock in a super MOOD or is he just like that
Omg the sweetness tho
Amazing. Thanks!
4/16 anyone?!?
jerry loved his middle pickup, trey doesnt even have one lol
He had a hole for one though. I believe it’s only on his first guitar
Row Jimmy I mean seriously c'mon man.
Phil Lesh is an Extra-Terrestrial. Discloser has come and gone. It looks like Jack Nicholson on drums
16 years ago I was at this show . I sparked my bowl and the cops above saw the flame and lit me up with flashlights and drug me out to some booth and they thru a bunch of bags of mushrooms and other stuff I don't know what fuck What a trip the kids seated next to me scattered out and ditch there stuff by there seats The cops had me along with other Radom shit that was not mine... I toll the cops I dun know what happen or who's shit that belong s to. They let me go back in the show as the wheel was playing
+Kerry Mellberg you can't go back and you can't stand still. if the thunder don't getcha then the lightning will..
love how no one mentions page in here
bcc bc cant forget page.
He was grate...Keith grate, the highest compliment...
The GOAT
@@jameshood7478 oh ko. Ci p4. ?
Does anyone know what that square thing is on Trey's microphone ( 51:30 ) ?
Any circulation of the entire run on video?
16:40 when phil starts in on that base line, it really grooves from there.
More good shit...
OMG 21:12
Funkaedelic!!!! Bitchin!
54:45
Kimock deigns to stand...
why is kimock sitting down?
super joints will do that to you
hahahahah....because sir. THAT"S what happens when you fucking kill it an want to KEEP ON killing it.
it's to prevent liftoff during those sick jams he does. What would you do?
Mikey sat down.
+Benjamin Fredrick I love WSp
Trey is God to me but Kimocks phrasing is inner dimensional and making the hairs on my arm stand up.
->> Viola Lee
I shouldn't be here trying to sing these railroad blues
Trey Is way too favored by the universe for any *cold hard bed*.
trey's "get out" at 44:17 sounds like 100% jerry to me, i hear no trey in that
great observation. damn you really cherry picked that one out. Jerry channeling through I suppose.
Treythoven incarnates at 52.00
test
had a ticket for this whole weekend and turned it down..For some reason I didn't think it was going to be any good..Oops..
Barry Buss rough! Those were hard tickets man! I payed the most I had ever at that point for a concert for night one...after the viola opening notes I screamed " worth every penny". Saw all three and they still are all in my top five ever....pure magic
Eleven people need to acquire some taste.
Obviously tjw3999 never listened to any early Dead. Dark Star, The Other One and Cryptical often never came back. "This is why I hate Phish" ... LOL, douche.
sorry kimock takes him. nothing personal
+kevin christie Not really. In fact I hear them as working together rather than one dominating the other. Trey provides some great support for Kimock's leads, often playing contrapuntally and meshing well with the group. Unfortunately SK doesn't seem to lend that same support.....
+wakajawakka cool man! thank you for your insight.
+kevin christie Hey, kevin christie, I just want to commend you for leaving one of the most human youtube replies I have ever seen. In a place where people often feel very little responsibility to their fellow man while "communicating" from behind the shield of their anonymous internet presence.. you rock.
+Billy Kubina Jr thank you. I welcome all opinions on music. diversity is life's greatest teacher.
+wakajawakka Kimock has better overtone structure (more similar to Garcia) but Trey is a better traditional lead guitarist (blues/rock). Both players shine here.
