Yes. Trey has stepped up in a number of GD places and filled the slot admirably. I don’t think it’ll ever happen again, so thank you, Trey. Keep on keepin on.
@@dmonshaw These and the two shows with Billy K (his first post -Jerry shows) and Dave Nelson later in July (which I had the privilege of attending) were peak P&F imo
One of the early reviews of this show (it might have been on Nugs.net) mentions that the Viola jam got so intense that one of the roadies had to step away from it to smoke a cigarette. It was one of the first things I read about this run. At the time, I wasn’t even aware that these shows were even happening. An ex stopped by to help paint the bedroom of a house I had just moved into. She handed me a tape and said, “you might like this.” It was one of those “Wow!” moments. It was a great soundtrack to paint a room, and I’ll always remember the excitement I had while learning about & listening to this run. Fun to revisit every once in a while.
A great show. My ears hear Kimock n Trey get a little "Stranger" action going during Shakedown. Good on Phil for doing what he does bringing musicians together. All good.
Yeah they do a fantastic job taking one another's phrasing into consideration when one steps back and the other into the light. They don't overstep or play longer than one another or sound as if they are ever trying to out play the other but the monster playing from each says to me how dialed in everyone on stage must have been to make this magic happen.
The best side project ever! Great group of "friends" bringing the music that we love to life in such a beautiful way! Love this.....and eternally Grateful!
One of my favorite shows all time. I remember getting this on cassette from a good friend of mine who always had choice tapes back in the day. You guys haven't commented in 8 months. These shows were truly monumental. After 150 dead & 25 Phish shows. Love Uncle John's. Trey is so into it! What about the vocals by Phil on 416 on the end of the best Unbroken chain
Haha nice, yeah sure sounds like it sometimes. No doubt Garcia spent lots of time playing and mastering tone with Kimock. As for Trey i'm sure they spent a good amount of time together, at least that's what i'd like to believe.
As someone just getting into the world of dead/trey these shows have been a blast to watch. We don't get a lot of these types of gigs up in Canada, but hoping to make it down to Lockn after covid. Killer!

Man, I haven't listened to these [April Warfield P&F] shows in easily 15 years. I am not a crossover GD & Phish fan but I've got to hand it to Trey for playing so damn well. Close your eyes, get lost in the music, and sometimes he could be Jerry. That's wild. Such a great show, great band! For having often revolving band members, Phil and his Friends have all been such pros to play such incredible music without having years of experience playing the same stuff all together on tour. There are people who don't like jam bands. Ok. They like people and bands who play their 4-5 minute songs and have a little story in each quick song. Ok. I do, too. But when guys can come together and just by ear play a cohesive 15-20 minute jam that is so intelligent and so fun, that's amazing to me! Truth be told, I love Ratdog, even their first years in the mid to late 90's. Bobby kept the spirit alive on stage. The Other Ones on '98 were a damn fine treat. But Phil & Friends stepped it up and brought it closer to home for us who knew how special a fantastic Dead show is! ✌️
