- The DJI Mavic 3 is now compatible with the DJI RC, here's your complete hands-on details on how it works, and how it compares to the DJI RC PRO and DJI RC-N1!
In this video I first cover the reasons why someone would want the DJI RC instead of the DJI RC Pro, then I dive into the firmware update, pairing it, flying with it, and finally a deep-dive feature comparison.

You’re reviews are awesome. Thanks!
Lets hope the Air2S will also be compatible with the RC soon.
thinkfully it is now
I don't even own a drone, but for some reason keep watching these. Keep up the great work!
What's your favorite strain to watch tech videos?
Great news, thanks! I’ll be trying this when I get home in a few hours :)
Great job. Nice video You covered everything
Great video, standalone RC now on sale in UK too. 👍
Latest firmware which adds Mavic 3 to RC also brings many upgrades for Mini 3 e.g quickshots and panoramas in portrait mode.
Mini 3 just gets better.
I been on the fence between these 2 remotes and I think you have just convinced me to go with the RC. Mini HDMI is no use to me, I can live with slightly dimmer display, consummation seem to be enough for my use, third party apps are not use for me on what essentially is just a remote controller with a display. My only concern is signal penetration but again just like you my maximum flying distance never passes 1km, though I fly often on urban areas with a little bit more interference. Brilliant video, as you usually make, thank you.
Great! But we really need range improvement for the mini 3 now!
Always appreciate your videos… Anyway you can post your comparison chart to be downloaded? Thanks in advance
Perfect!
Good video
Cool review and comparison only note that "DJI RC supports DJI O3+ transmission that brings a max transmission range of 15km" as mentioned on DJI website.
Hmm, odd they changed it from launch - especially given nobody can get past about 2KM 🤣
@Dcrainmaker I came from a mavic pro zoom to the mavic 3 and I don't notice any difference distance wise.
they are missing out on a ton of sales not making it compatible with the mini 2, air 2/air2s. do not understand the logic in that. if the rcn1 remote works with all the current drones so should the dji rc
they are now
@@martinst.andrew4026 don’t know what you’re smoking but on the website it says compatible with mavic 3 and mini 3 only.
It would be nice if the RC was compatible with the Mini 2.
Thank you
I've oddly havent had any range issues on the Mini 3 with the DJI RC (RM330), tested it at a known fail point where I lose signal it gets as far as the Mavic 3 with RC-N1. Its largely in line with the Mavic and Mini 2 also. I've always been mindful of antenna direction though and I think thats where the DJI RC RM330 is catching people out, the external antennas were more forgiving.
Good to hear!
Another video explains that RC, which you said to send weak signal, is due to automatic signal frequency program, and the bad signal problem will end when you choose manually 2,4 or 5,8 GHz dependin of the environment of your flight area.
Any news on further updates for additional drone compatibility for the RC (specifically Air2s)?
DJI RC-N1 is still the best for tablets, with the RC buttons + 5D button would be perfect, I still hope to see an RC-N2 in this footprint.
I don’t think so , my RC-N1 with mavic3 keep loosing signal and RTH, I wish bought RCPro , Never buy cheap stuff
If your want to save money and enjoy the quality.
no go in australia at 12 am, maybe when I wake up it will magically be ready to update
Maybe range test with mavic 3 and this two controllers.
I have no audio recording on RC using multiple USB wired/wireless microphones. Have you tried it? DJI told me there is no audio capability with screen recording. Only exception was with a $700 microphone w/onboard DAC. I've been using RC-N1 to do get audio on screen recordings.
FYI Your chart needs a correction: RC-N1 does not have C1/C2 buttons. - Thanks Ray!
UPDATE: Controller Only FW Update V01.01.0300 Appears to have resolved audio channel not open during screen recordings. Don't forget Controller will not use inbuilt speakers (it will be silent) when the microphone dongle is plugged in to USB-C "Host Port" (under plastic flip cover) on the RC.
Do you know if the update comes later in Europe ? I just tried to pair my Mavic 3 with the DJI Rc and I get no update and I can’t pair it .
Will it work with the Air2s?
This is the question...
Looking for information... can I use my Crystalsky 5.5 nonitor with the basic controller for DJI Mini 3 ..! Thanks
Fly you in FCC or in CE Mode?
Thank you for your Videos.
Is it not possible to pair a second remote to the Mavic 3 lineup?
What about SDK possibility on thé New RC ?
cool
@2:59 Just curious, did you not take your phone along on the hike to save weight?
Air2s soon I hope ….. I just bought a iPad mini 6 for my drones …I would have bought the new rc if it was available for my mini 2 and Air2s…perhaps by Christmas
If I wanted to run a mapping app, would I have to buy the N1 controller and use my phone?
Do you bind them one at a time and does it remember both drones or you have to bind them as you use the drones..
For me I had to do one at a time, though, you get 5 tries before you have to actually bind it. But, that might have been a weird pre-prod limitation. I'm travelling today, but will need to see if it's any different on final production firmware when I get back home tomorrow.
What about getting LAANC authorizations? If you can’t install 3rd party apps, what do you do?
Brother what is the screen size of dji rc and dji rc pro
I bought a DJi Mavic 3 Classic with the regular RC controller. From the get go I disliked the RC controller. It feels cheap, plasticky and toy like. The user interface is slow and laggy, the screen is just ok and it is so light that it lacks any sensation in your hands. Even after 3 months of frequent use, I couldn’t get myself to enjoy the RC controller. The price tag of the DJI RC Pro was a big obstacle for me to overcome however. I finally and hesitantly decided to take the plunge. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Every single dislike I had over the basic RC controller have been addressed. It feels solid, well made, and pro like. The user interface is fast and smooth. The screen is absolutely gorgeous and it offers many useful upgrades over the RC controller. Flying my drone with the RC Pro has been a different experience altogether. It is much more enjoyable and satisfying. I only regret 1 thing; not buying the RC Pro with my drone.
I think your comments are the best ones I have seen on this post. You nailed it. I am in the same situation as you exactly. I have the DJ Max Classis with the regular remote. I hate the controller. Most of my flying is done over water. Even with a hood, I cant see the screen and I am supposed to shoot videos and take pictures blindfolded? I don't think so. And I am certainly not wearing a huge black tarp or sock over my head because while I usually fly by screen, I do look up on occasion. The regular remote is very laggy. But again, I need to see where I am on the screen. Can't do it in direct or even indirect sunlight. I do not like running behind trees or anywhere I need to go to find my target and lock into it. Usually a boat or water skier or duck. I am ordering one on Amazon for $993. I'll keep my other and use it for backup if I fly when it's cloudy or dark. I don't want to spend the extra money, but am so miserable. Plus the rage stinks with the RC Controller. So, I am hoping with the Pro it will be much better.
I know what the compatibility list says but has anyone tried pairing the DJI Rc with magic 2 air? Using the old way from the original controller perhaps. Any luck?
Test shouldn’t be biast toward price as that’s the obvious.. They should be based on with one really has more capability and is actually better not “yea this one has this but the other one is way cheaper” just tell us the facts about which one ACTUALLY WORKS BETTER WITH THE DRONE
Ok...do I need a drone?
I find it odd that with my new Mavic 3 Classic & new RC I can't get as far as I can with my Mini 2 and it's remote with my phone.
Yeah, basically they reduced signal strength in certain bands due avoid regulatory stuff that in the past they kinda...umm...sidestepped.
Hello, good day. I am considering buying either a DJI RC or a DJI RC Pro. The primary factors for me are image quality and brightness. I’ve noted that the DJI RC Pro is roughly triple the price of the DJI RC, so I’m hoping to get an expert’s view on the tangible differences in image quality and brightness between the two controllers. If the DJI RC Pro only offers a 10 or 15% improvement, I may not find it worthwhile to spend an extra 600 euros. In your experience, is the image quality and brightness of the DJI RC Pro significantly better, or is the DJI RC just as good in any given situation, thus making the Pro version not worth the additional cost? Thank you in advance.
It’s definitely better, as the nits are substantially higher. That said, it honestly depends on where you plan to use it. I use the regular DJI RC 100% of the time, and it’s perfectly fine. However, if I lived at the beach or in a desert, where bright sun is my daily jam, I might prefer the RC Pro.
have you tried using an usb C capture card to output footage?
from the DJI RC
🤝🤟🏼😎
I have a mavic 3 with the std controller and am frustrated with the transmission. Sometimes even at 100-300m if there are trees in the way, it loses connection at canopy level flights. Max range 1km in an open field. My mavic 2 was better despite the claimed tech spec upgrades. I'm wondering if its down to the controller since thats the archilles heel in the basic packagem Could you help test this theory? (Obstacle part i understand you wont test range due to laws)
Switch to FCC and install few additional antennas and all will be fine ;-)
Order yourself a 2.4ghz yagi antenna on eBay …there around $10 i have a set for my mini 2 and Air2s to help get around the thick trees around my house …might help
@@karelnovak8343 just tested this.... amazing. Thanks. I would hug you if you were here. Serious. Been very fed up with not being able to fly the drone properly. Now much more confident flying in the forest.
@@karelnovak8343 -what are the available additional antennas for the Mavic 3?
I use my Skyzone goggles a lot with my old P4 pro plus. Therefore I need an HDMI port. The RC does not have this feature and won't work for me.
Hi, every time you change drone we need to connect them again or it works with the drone one that is on?
Not only pair again, you have to switch FW on the RM330 (RC) - I think it stores both since it switched without internet, but it's a bit kludgy
@@BlairAir Thanks
@@BlairAir yeah, you get 5 flights in this temp mode before you have to bind one. Not impossible to deal with, but clunky.
Does it work on the air 2s as well?
No 😞
It does now.
Are you sure that screen is same as my s22 ultra on a brighter day?
no
Waiting for it to be compatible with my Air 2s so i can buy it
I thought turning the drone on without unfolding it was bad for it. Am I wrong?
That’s perfectly fine.
There wasnt any real mention of the RC-N1 and using a phone...or iPad
No AIRS2 compatability 😞
Hopefully soon. I'm sure they are trying to clear out all of the old smart controller combo packs first lol
What surprising is the range. 15Km for N1 while 12Km for new RC with display. Transmission resolution (60fps fullHD) of N1 is better than the new RC (30fps fullHD). That means N1 has better potential though the range is the same for Mini3. Where did you get the spec sheet?
in reality about 2km.....
Do you think they will like this with the air 2s also??
I'd be surprised if they don't.
What about air 2s ??😢
Right!
Sadly not at this time. Don’t entirely understand the logic there.
An overheated iPhone is definitely dimmer than 700 nits. I wouldn't call it a wash between the two.
The lack of customizable buttons on the DJ RC-N1 makes the M3 a worse drone then the M2. You can't use the full functions
Not sure I follow. You can customize the buttons just fine with the DJI Fly app?
I watched a range test and the Regular DJI RC went 9km
They really should make this controller work with all their drones, it’s why I went with the mini 3 over the air 2s. I think it’s brilliant and standing by a shady tree the view plenty bright enough. I only need to get my head out of flying rc planes so long that I keep watching the drone rather than the rc screen by habit.
That's a good habit to have though. I was new drone pilot and had my mini 3 for 1 day before I flew sidways into a tree and lost it in a pond
@@the1anonymouse ouch
So they couldn't make it compatible with the Air 2s, bummer...lol
Man folks are pissed posted this yesterday from a guy on Twitter. Man I got all kind of unlikes .. lol made me laugh
What about the Air 2?
Nope. :(
@Lon Denard Well, we know it could be compatible, since the DJI RC Pro works with it just fine.
I don't own a drone but I really want a mini 2 . why oh why are the rc controllers 800.00 dollars. just don't understand this.
These built in screen rc's need a bigger screen, 5.5 is too small by today standards...
The DJI RC is slow, it locks up, has limited functions, no way to uninstall the fly app and reinstall another version that might work. It's so bad I won't even fly the Mini 3 with that thing. If I fly the Mini 3 again it will be with my phone and the N1 controller with maybe Fly app version 1.6.6. The DJI RC is bad, the fly app 1.6.8 makes it useless.
maybe you just got a lemon? I haven't had any issues with the controller or my M3P. What all is happening?
