Depends what you hit. A tree with leaves and a bush underneath wont break it. But run in to a wall 4 feet above the ground at like 2 mph... busted..... but you cant really blame dji because these are made to stay under 250 grams which is quite difficult. It's absolutely remarkable that DJI has evolved their camera drones that much in only a few short years. When professionals were discussing the DJI mini when it first came out, no one imagined it would become this good. It wasn't even considered possible. The mini 4 pro represents an incredible technological achievement.

Even the Mini 3 Pro is amazing and thats been out for 2years basically now. The Mini drones, espically starting with the Mini 2, but really the Mini 3 Pro and Mini 4 Pro. I have two DJI Air 2s drones and a DJI Mini 3 Pro and i barely use the Air2s drones anymore unless theres a reason to have the higher 5.4K resolution, extra quality video when zooming or picture quality, then ill just grab the Mini 3 Pro.. The Mini 3 or Mini 4 are just so portable & lightweight. You can literally fit it in your pocket, the controller is actually bigger than the drone lol, and the video and picture quality is great! Even a Mini2 can take some great video and pictures if you just want a drone for personal use, its one of the best bargain drones besides maybe the base Mini 3 drone when its on sale.. I dont even think i really want an Air 3... The only reason i would want an Air3 or a Mavic3 Pro was if it had better tracking and obsatable avoidance, but theyre really not. Plus theyre just much bigger drones and therefore less likely to survive a fall.. As much as i like it, i just dont need it and the Mini 4 Pro would be better for me which i already know from owning the Mini3 Pro for almost 2 years now.. I dont know if i will sell my Drones to upgrade from the Mini 3 Pro to the Mini 4 Pro, but it is a very impressive drone package and even better Range then the already amazing range on the M3P and Air2s when using the RC-N1 controller or DJI Smart controller/Pro Controller.
Hey just a suggestion, but there are retailers offering 0% financing 12 monthly payments (for the flymore package) . So like 100 bucks a month, no interest for a year. Great deal for this amazing tech if you ask me!

I'd say this is more than an incremental improvement over the Mini 3 Pro. Excellent for what you used it for here. Yeah, those little leafless branches are the bane of even the best OA. Thin power and phone lines too.
My mini 3 pro never hits branches like that in those lighting conditions. Let's see if the fish eye sensors compromise forward obstacle avoidance a little.
To be very honest, I actually have footage from my Mini 3 Pro tracking me on my scooter, flying at top speed just above thin power lines in Sicily. It's scary looking back at the footage. But I gotta say, the Mini 3 Pro consistently handled the thin power lines well during my journey. At the same time, let's give DJI alittle more time to iron out all the kinks as this is a brand new drone and has a slightly different layout of the sensors to the Air3 & Mavic
Yup even in manual mode I was following a river with my mini 3 and I narrowly misses a powerline in a section that was not in my line of site was very lucky could barely see it on the inflight cam feed

OMG! This sent shivers up my spine as I can still recall clearly when I tried something similar with my Mini 3 Pro. One required a climb up a tall conifer to retrieve it and the other resulted in 7 of the blades shattered!😖

From what i've seen watching a lot of reviews, if you activate the low to the ground mode, with your tree gauntlet, it works drop down low (less limbs at base of trees than top) and performance tracking should be a lot smoother

My dad had a Staaker drone that used a wristband to both follow objects and record audio- e.g. the audio became part of the footage by default. It didn't have object sensing capabilities, and long story short, it crashed into a tree as he was recording a video. It's nice to see advancements in the general industry- even if not every drone has every advantage(yet?).
Super impressive. I just got the Mini 4 over my Mini 3. I am not a big fan of autonomous flying due to lack of confidence in it but I feel like now is the perfect time to put some trust into the Mini 4. Incredible test Ray. Thank you.

That’s so much better and pretty amazing. I need to upgrade for sure. The skinny branches without leaves are hard for a pilot with FPV goggles to see even with digital, so no surprise there but as you say, its response to that situation was odd. Don’t go up! 😂

Loved your video and presentation style. I will say, when you were using the 3D map at round 5:20 that was a perfect opportunity for a quick VoiceOver introducing the 3D map feature rather than text alluding to something upcoming. Plenty of empty spaces, and you are demonstrating a perfect use case for this feature.
Great Job Man, Balls out for sure, LOL. I'll be getting one. One thing I would love to see, a more erratically moving subject. The bike on an improved path is so smooth. I like to shot stuff like boulder hopping along a knife edge ridge and my past experience has always been a real "jumpy shot" so I have not been doing it. . . maybe these new features will help. Being in a gnarly situation to start with makes using POI on a stationary land mark for that shot more distracting than I would like. . . and difficult. Ray, please come visit sometime, I've just put up a summer's worth of epic mountain climbs in a very climatic format, I promise you enjoy them. May be able to give you some ideas as well. . .

Like you the first thing was to sign up to care refresh. Had my Mini 2 for nearly three years and never crashed it. Just hope all of the protection on the 4 Pro doesn't induce complacency.

This is really one hell of a stress test for the obstacle avoidance. Quite impressive that it survive multiple hits from trees. im pretty sure i wont try to push the obstacle avoidance sensor to it limits but its good to know that even on these very tricky situations, You can rely on it sensor to actually do it job.
My mind was blown when it basically flew THROUGH multiple trees back to back in what felt like a move that took is milimeters from the branches. This technology is insane.

Wow, a name I haven't seen in a while. I'm pretty sure the first video I saw of you was about a Kickstarter heartrate monitor watch from over a decade ago. That thing is in a desk drawer around here somewhere.
The new active track looks amazing (in perfect conditions)! I love the mini 3 pro, I've taken it to countless weddings over the summer and finally crashed it a week or so ago (pretty big one, had to have the care refresh replacement) and honestly even then I wasn't mad at the tracking, more just my stupidity about flying in low light conditions. I'm fully with you on the forward sensors, not once have I had my drone hit anything front on, its always been at the side or clipping the edge from behind. Considering how they started off, they have come such a long way, I'm honestly surprised that more people don't pick the mini's up compared to the bigger air/mavics.
Overall I think it passed your test which I think would be more extreme than most users would do. Pretty impressed. It was funny, I was actually ducking at a couple of points in the video - lol.

I use the DJI Mic to record the audio, but it's paired with a Rode Lav amzn.to/3PusbWJ - I also had a secondary DJI Mic without a lav (which you can see), but that was just a backup audio source, the Lav is what's used in the video and came out better and what I use for all my wind/riding tests as well.

I bought the mini 4 pro this Christmas. Fantastic piece of technology. The obstacle avoidance is very impressive however it’s at its weakest when doing POI. Crashed it on the second day exactly the same way.
Wow, that backflip and quick recovery by the drone at 13:37 was totally impressive! I had my heart in my mouth for a moment there, but the way the drone regained its balance was simply amazing! Unfortunately, the drone fell off after that.

Great video, thank you. You made a very good point about those forward facing sensors vs the 45° facing sensors. I have also never crashed my mini 3 pro from a forward collision. Maybe DJI needs to adjust the distance sensitive of the sensors to mitigation against this. It's the same sensors on the Air 3, but I believe those were adjusted to match the much faster moving Air 3, hence it will not be as sensitive/successful as the M4P going through those trees. Either way thanks for this video, it will definitely help me with my buying options. I.e keep my M3P and also get the Air3. I think I'll skip the M4P and keep using my Insta360 X3 + M3P for my drone like shots.
Nice one, DC! It’s all looking very hopeful (I don’t have the 4P presently, but it’s very much down as my next, soon!) I’d hope DJI will bring in a few extras to smooth out any errors quickly.
This drone performed super well and I'm definitely upgrading from my Mavic Air 2 to this one! Those 3.5 years of living in China paid off and I could read the Chinese on the menu... Just wanted to share that small personal victory😁

I love the mini 3 pro, I've taken it to countless weddings over the summer and finally crashed it a week or so ago (pretty big one, had to have the care refresh replacement) and honestly even then I wasn't mad at the tracking, more just my stupidity about flying in low light conditions. I'm fully with you on the forward sensors, not once have I had my drone hit anything front on, its always been at the side or clipping the edge from behind.
Considering how they started off, they have come such a long way, I'm honestly surprised that more people don't pick the mini's up compared to the bigger air/mavics.
Overall I think it passed your test which I think would be more extreme than most users would do. Pretty impressed. It was funny, I was actually ducking at a couple of points in the video - lol.

Great video Ray. I always love watching your drone gauntlet testing, while informative as always, there's the added bonus of a certain degree of suspense around if the drone will make it or where it'll crash into a tree. 😂
I'm just impressed of the audio quality, even though you have the DJI mic super close to your neck we don't hear any weird friction noises !!
Thanks! I use the DJI Mic to record the audio, but it's paired with a Rode Lav amzn.to/3PusbWJ - I also had a secondary DJI Mic without a lav (which you can see), but that was just a backup audio source, the Lav is what's used in the video and came out better and what I use for all my wind/riding tests as well.
The mini 4pro have two antenna really help to prevent the camera gamble from crashing compare to mini 3pro.

I bought the mini 4 pro this Christmas. Fantastic piece of technology. The obstacle avoidance is very impressive however it’s at its weakest when doing POI. Crashed it on the second day exactly the same way.
Wow, that backflip and quick recovery by the drone at 13:37 was totally impressive! I had my heart in my mouth for a moment there, but the way the drone regained its balance was simply amazing! Unfortunately, the drone fell off after that.
That’s a great little drone and a brilliant test.

Great video, thank you. You made a very good point about those forward facing sensors vs the 45° facing sensors. I have also never crashed my mini 3 pro from a forward collision. Maybe DJI needs to adjust the distance sensitive of the sensors to mitigation against this. It's the same sensors on the Air 3, but I believe those were adjusted to match the much faster moving Air 3, hence it will not be as sensitive/successful as the M4P going through those trees. Either way thanks for this video, it will definitely help me with my buying options. I.e keep my M3P and also get the Air3. I think I'll skip the M4P and keep using my Insta360 X3 + M3P for my drone like shots.
Nice one, DC! It’s all looking very hopeful (I don’t have the 4P presently, but it’s very much down as my next, soon!) I’d hope DJI will bring in a few extras to smooth out any errors quickly.

This drone performed super well and I'm definitely upgrading from my Mavic Air 2 to this one! Those 3.5 years of living in China paid off and I could read the Chinese on the menu... Just wanted to share that small personal victory😁
