I've been avoiding hair grease for years because of the natural hair community. But after 3 ou 4 days, my hair was always dry. I went back to grease. Best decision ever. My hair are soooo soft and moisturize for 10 days straight. No more tangles. It's amazing.
😂😂😂😂
As a licensed Cosmetologist I approve of this message.. I have used grease for years and recommended my clients to use it. As a chemist you are spot on with your tips and recommendations.. Loved the hair tutorial!! You are Beauty & Brains🤗
Gimmi my Blue Magic forever😂😂😂. My hair thrives with hair grease. Sometimes we put so many products in our hair while simplicity is the best.
Rightttt I just started back with blue magic and baby my hair is so soft and manageable. I’ve heard others say it helps reduce single strand knots 🪢 which are my mortal enemy.
YES to more tutorials! Yay! 😃
My tips that have aided my length retention, though I'm early in the game (3.5 yrs natural, 15/16 inches, fine 4a,b and mostly c hair, normal to high porosity)
1- Medium twists in a tucked under ponytail style or twisted in a bun (Use silk woogies only)
2- Retwist every week
3- Wipe scalp with cloth using a diluted acv and distilled water solution when retwisting each week🎉
4- I use a mix of Sulphur 8, Top Brass, peppermint, lavender and rosemary essential oils on my scalp when retwisting.
5- Water, leave in, grease in that order on hair length when retwisting
6- spritz scalp with herbal tea water blend every 2 nights, mist hands and smooth it down twists as well, add extra leave in and grease on ends.
7- Prepoo with deep conditioner and olive oil, spritzing first with herbal water blend, the night before wash day- just slather and squeeze it into twists without loosing, tie down.
8- Detangle before washing in the morning, put in bigger twists to wash- loose at the roots, tight at the ends with extra deep conditioner on ends
9- Shampoo twice in twists , loose each twist on final rinse to rinse thoroughly then twist back up
10- deep condition in twists etc
11- Trim a quarter inch twice a year once your ends are always (90% of time) protected by being tucked away
12- Cover with silk scarf rather than bonnet, and slather leave in on exposed parts of hair before covering, so that in the morning your hair is very neat
13- I got more, but this is WAYYYY too long! 😅😂
Thank you for sharing!! You dropped gems! :-)
Wow! This sounds like a LOT...You put in the work; you get the results, though, right? Thanks for sharing!
Why would you pre-poo with deep conditioner?
@@charleswife I do that to saturate and strengthen my hair beforehand, because I don't deep condition after in the usual way. I use that as a hack so I don't have to get out of the shower and go back in to rinse out anything. That's very annoying to me. Lol. After shampooing I get out the shower and put a leave in that can double as a deep conditioner, give it indirect heat and then style my hair in twists. No rinsing out again.
@@lblair6675 I do it in such a way that it doesn't feel like a lot though. I mixed the stuff I put on my scalp in a little container, so application is an quick and easy massage. Wiping my scalp doesn't take much time as I wipe the base of each twist before retwisting. Wash day (once a month or every 3 weeks) takes less than 2 hours from detangling to styling (if you don't count slathering my twists the night before). Medium twists also take way less time than mini. I make the herbal tea spray every couple of months or so and freeze it so I have quick access each week. So I feel like a real lazy natural when it comes to my hair. 😄
I've gone back to using hair grease recently and my hair is thriving. And ends don't tangle like they used to.
Yesss! It's a game-changer! :-)
I agree! Unlike what people generally say about grease weighing down fine strands- I've found that grease helps with the problems I used to face with my fine strands! No more webbing and tangling, very few single strands knots, I only find like one or two in my whole head now when retwisting each week. Grease is my go to! 💯
😊😊😊😊😊
What brand of grease do you use?
@@kriseme4734blue magic Indian hemp or super sure gro
2 months ago I finally decided to just go back completely to water and grease. That's what my aunts used to use on my hair when I was a little girl and my hair was completely down my back not constantly breaking off etc. I don't know why I didn't do this sooner. I grew up in the '70s and '80s when there wasn't all these different hair products and things that we started running to put in our hair. Even my wash day has been so much better less tangles not spending almost 2 hours to detangle, just a much better experience all around. I even threw a bottle of good old pink oil moisturizer in there for good measure. 😅😂 Happy Hair Days Ladies and Gentlemen. Be safe and be blessed out there. To the creator of this content Thank you for sharing this information.
Nothing beats hair grease, hands down my best sealant.Whenever my Palmers one runs out I use vaseline. I moisturise my hair, slap on grease then twist it up. I wash my hair once a week then re-moisturise once in between wash days. This routine and keeping my hair generally covered has done wonders for retaining my length. Great video Tonya!😊
That's the secret and it works!! Thank you! :-)
Love blue magic
My mother used hair grease for years but our hair wasn't soft, always broke off and was being combed each day with the same grease being reapplied. My hair in particular didn't even use to shine after washing but when she used coconut oil it shone. We are now using oils and butters and our hair flourishes.
I’m pursuing a bachelor’s in chem and you’re speaking my language with this channel. Finally hair content I can understand!!!
Yay! I’m glad to hear that! ☺️
Leaving hair alone after styling.
Thanks for sharing your tutorial,Tonya. More please and thanks 😊
You're welcome!! :-)
Protective styles and that good grease it hasn’t failed me!!
Periodt sis!! :-)
Thank you! Went back to blue magic. Along with cream of nature shampoo and conditioner. That combo has my daughters hair waist length. Can’t do the $20 shampoo and conditioner anymore. The expensive new stuff leads you a becoming a product junkie bc it either doesn’t work well, or it doesn’t last bc you have to wash and apply every 2 days. The 90’s stuff resulted in longer, healthier, better.
May I ask which crème of nature shampoo and condish you use? Since they discontinued the red and white bottle years and years ago I had no clue which ones to turn to

@@GiaTorrisihi,which blue magic do you use?
@@somethingspecial1415 whatever’s on sale 😂 lately it’s been the white (coconut scented) one. The green one was the choice when I was a kid, but I can’t find it. Only the blue and the white ones are mostly available.
I absolutely want to more tutorials from you! Love it!❤❤❤. Since I work from home now and don’t leave the house every day, I’ve ramped up my protective styling. I wash, deep condition, LCO and cornrow my hair straight back weekly. I wear a headband wig for zoom meetings or when I need to run out. I’ve seen a huge difference in shedding, thickness and length retention. I spray my scalp with a green tea, clove, rosemary tea blend 3x per week and oil my scalp with my diy Ayurvedic oil nightly. My hair is loving it.
My mama still use hair grease, she is not a oil type user and honestly it works well and never fails…
Love all your videos, and the tutorials would be a great bonus!❤Thank you. Blessings.
Hello Lady Thank you for the visual !!! I Love it
Loved the tutorial, yes definitely more like this please!! 👌🏾👌🏾
Great video! I would love to see more videos like this
Thanks for the tutorial. Yes please more.😊
I love hair grease in the winter time especially because it just seems to do a better job of preserving moisture in that dry winter air.
For me in order to retain length I am just staying on top of dead and split ends. I trim every 3 to 4 months, I make moisturizing a priority over styling, I stay in a bonnet when I am at home, and I use sunblock on my hair when I know I'm going to be spending a lot of time outside.
Yes enjoyed seeing how you used the grease on your hair!
Thank you for the tutorial. The visual is very helpful.
Yes more tutorial. Thank you I have been struggling with moisture. Will give this method a try tomorrow.
Yessss! More tutorials, I’ve followed you since the early years trying to figure out the LOC methods new natural back in the day. So proud to see the beautiful & brilliant woman you’ve become is so amazing!! Thank you for sharing & helping us through this journey of having healthy and length retaining hair! ❤🎉
Yes I loooove the short tutorials please make more ❤
Absolutely loved this video. I do A LOT of protective styling. Right now, I'm focusing on keeping my hair detangled. This video tutorial is right on time for winter and locking in moisture with grease. It reminded me that I used to do the same thing on my wash day when I was younger. It's time to revisit this old routine. Thanks for what you do ❤.
Love love love the video. Much needed for a lady who is struggling with locking in moisture.
Thank you
Thank you so much for sharing!! Please share more videos as I suffer from hair loss🩷🩷🩷

Love these videos!!
I was just wondering whether or not i have subscribed. I just did. God bless you. I am really learning ❤
I appreciate how you take time to answer the questions❤
Hello and Thank You so much! Please have a Blessed Day!
Absolutely loved the tutorial! My hair has been growing like crazy since I’ve consistently used hair grease in my regimen. 🎉
low manipulation and ensuring my hair and scalp are well taken care have allowed me to see length retention🙌🏿
Yep! Best thing for hydrating and protecting 4b and 4c for strong growth
Thank you for the shout out to hair grease. It was all we used on our hair for so so many years and our hair grew long and pretty. Thank you again.
Tonya, thanks to you, I use beeswax which my hair loves. It holds the moisture in my hair longer than regular liquid oil. Blessings to you for another informative video.🥰
Oh THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for this type video!!!!
You give the absolute best advice for hair care. My hair would be a dry frizzy broken mess with out your videos. My hair gets so long now that I know how to use Vaseline to care for it and it's beautiful. I just cut 4 inches off the back though because it's just too hot and humid right now. But I had the confidence to do that because I know I can grow it back easily by winter. Thank you Curly Chemistry!
Boy did I need a tutorial like this..am going to buy my stash of hair grease
Yes please to more tutorials...Being a visual learner I think it takes your videos to the next dimension in terms of information transfer.. For length retention, it's all about less manipulation and protective styles, and also, moisture moisture moisture 🙏
Yes, staple for my daughter routine. I love Nature's Blessing!
Loved the tutorial!! ❤❤ thanks for a great video!
You're welcome! :-)
Thank you Tonya, glad to hear that grease won't clog my pores❤
YES! Thanks for demonstrating exactly how you do it. Very helpful. Please do more videos where you show exactly HOW you do use the things you're recommending.
Past , present, future. Learning is a constant so ,yes please continue.
5:07 For length retention, switching to a hair conditioner with lots and lots of slip helped. Before LORYS, I'd end up cutting knots frequently on wash days because the bottle conditioners I used in the past weren't as great at closing my cuticles and creating slip.I would use up almost half a bottle with meh conditioning 😅.
I have very tight coily hair, o shape curls, literaly like a compressed spring. So no conditioner = fewer wash days abd no brushing.
Now I can wash my hair and scalp as often as I need to, usually every 7days.
Learnt lots about what ingredients to look out for from your content so thank you so much! ❤
Do more tutorial. I learn more.
Loving my hair grease even with fine low porosity hair.
I reduced my breakage using grease. I have shine ends now
Yesss! It's the truth! So glad you're seeing results! :-)
I love Dudley’s Hair & Scalp Conditioner. It’s a great product which maintains moisture and it smells great. The fragrance reminds me of my aunt, who was a cosmetologist, used to do my hair.
I use hair grease for retaining the length of my children's hair.. I usually just do a water based detangler, a leave-in conditioner, and seal it with the grease. Its been doing wonders for protecting their hair.
Yesss! I absolutely love the tutorial… very helpful more of those thank you!
More to come! :-)
Last year I lost a lot of growth in the front due to my hair being extremely dry. To resolve this issue I bought a water softener but most importantly I’ve started using oil’s again. The amount of hair fall during my shower and while styling has decreased tremendously due to oil usage. I’ve also started to incorporate a lot of your tips and tricks and my hair is now very easy to part after washing. I can create sections without a comb. Thank you! I’m glad I found your channel. 😊
Great video! Thanks for what you do, Tonya! 🫶🏾
You are so welcome! :-)
Yes!!! More tutorials please!
Hi Tonya. I just want to say Thank you for introducing grease. I was raised on hair grease then I got grown and started doing my own thing (bad move) BUT I am back to basics. My scalp is thanking me. My hair is shiny moisturized and I can go for a week without doing anything to my hair (as far as getting up in the morning and spraying water on my hair). Thank you so much
I'm relaxed, and I love using hair grease on my hair after stretching 14 weeks, I use the nature's blessings hair grease i've been using that two years now. Lots of people says we shouldn't use hair grease at all. Because it would take our hair out but I beg the differ. Because my hair is healthy and it's growing nicely. Thank you God bless you🪷🙏🏽
I use Nature's Blessing as well; it smells sooo good 😊
Using that as well...Best grease 😊
I don't understand how people come to the conclusion that hair grease prevents hair growth when most of us used it when we were kids and our hair thrived back then.
@@discipleoftruth1985 Amen, I'm still using hair grease on my relaxed hair 😌
Thank you for sharing! I'm glad you're seeing results! :-)
I use the following DIY oils for my hair growth: EVO, Castor, Peppermint, Tea Tree, Sandalwood, Cloves & Rosemary. (They are all mixed together). I apply them 3 nights a week before bed (cover with a plastic cap and satin cap). Also, I apply the oil mixture to my scalp immediately after I wash & deep condition my hair (once a week), just before I apply my leave-in conditioner and then style. I leave the same style in all week (usually just 1 braid). After sealing my ends with hair grease, I clip the braid up so that it doesn't rub up against my shoulders/clothes. Daily, I spritz my hair with water, apply the leave-in conditioner to my hair and braid without taking it down. I'm already noticing more growth then I would normally see in 4-5 months. So something is working. Also, I take my supps and drink a LOT of water each day.
I oiled my scalp with real Jamaican black castor oil that my friend brought back from vacation it’s very different from the different brands that’s sold in America and it’s had a very strong different smells too it’s smells like chocolate I mixed it with pumpkin seed oil and massage my scalp and spritz my hair with a liquid leavein conditioner then I cover my hair with a plastic bag because I don’t want my castor oil to go to waste on my pillow case and I want it to penetrate my scalp with the green house method too. So far I’m loving it I’m going to add some essential oil to it but I feel as though the castor oil is so strong because it’s made the traditional way it actually tingles my scalp. I did a fast Etsy search for the same brand I have and an 8oz bottle is a whopping $40 😅. I will definitely rebuy it I thing I’m going to make a concoction with pumpkin seed oil the castor oil, vitamin E oil and peppermint oil and lavender oil.
@@my1stlove130 Wow! That sounds really good. Keep us posted on your success.
@@my1stlove130What's the name of the company on Etsy where you see the authentic JBCO. You and your family always stay blessed and healthy ✝️🙏🛐🕊️
Thank you advocating for hair grease! I've been using it for the past 4 years and I've seen a lot of growth. I usually apply grease after I add in my leave in. Then I put my hair in a protective style that lasts 2 weeks. Shampoo my hair every 2 weeks because being a mom of 2 under 2, I don't have the time. I love wearing loose twists or twists hairstyles that lasts for 3-4 weeks but I also clean my scalp with ACV rinse and oil my scalp with hemp seed oil (I learned that from one of your videos) since my scalp gets dry and itchy. I also found that grease as a sealant allows my hair to be moisturized for a longer period of time.
I absolutely loved the demistation, thanks for reminder on Good Old Fashion Hair GREASE!! LOL Love you Tonya. Thank you
Love you too!! You're so welcome!! :-)
The tutorial was perfect 👍🏾
Something I myself need and maybe some others as well… thank you ☺️
You’re welcome 😊
This is awesome! Thank you so much! I actually started using Vitamin E “Hair Food” grease again after forgetting I had the product. I did a deep conditioning detangle, a through wash, a rinse out conditioner and then put cream and grease it! My hair was the MOST MOISTURIZED it had been in MONTHS! Definitely taking this routine up!
Yesss!! I love to hear that! So glad you're seeing results! :-)
Thank you Tanya I was always wondering about this topic and I stop using grease because I was wetting my hair too much and also using too grease I will give it try . And yes I will love to see more videos like this 😊
You're welcome Lisa! :-)
Thank you so much for this ! I'm going back to hair grease . I had long thick hair when I was a kid . My mom and grandma would always use this in my hair and braid it until it was wash day. My hair has gotten so much thinner since I took over !
Hi Tonya, THIS is the video I was hoping to see! I ran out of my usual coconut oil and used vaseline instead. I was curious to see if it is ok. What a relief!
Thank you for the mini tutorial too, very helpful!
I see you used the grease on your ends only. What are your thoughts on using grease on the scalp, and how often to use a sulphate shampoo to reduce buildup when using grease.
Thank you for your videos!
I love to share them with my sisters because they are so informative. Keep going!
Loved your hair tutorial, please do more!!!
Thank you! Will do! :-)
I like the demonstration😊.
Tonya! This has to be one of my favorite videos! I enjoyed the mini tutorial too! I will always stand by and shout it to the world, I LOVE ME SOME GREASE! Grease has anointing, grease has power! Glorayyyy LOL!!!

Thank you Tonya for the awesome video on the use of hair grease I loved it! Blue Magic is definitely a staple of mine. My hair is mostly gray and very dry, I generally do the LOC method and use hair on the ends. Yes please continue to do tutorials. God Bless You❣

Peaceful Greetings, yes I would to see and learn more on this subject. Peace, Good health. Happy Holidays and a healthy 2024
I use hair grease on my natural hair and it loves it!
I use the same grease my mother used when I was a child. My natural hair has grown, my natural curl pattern is enhanced and makes my hair very soft.
My hair is loving it.
Thank you for the tutorial bless ❤ 🇬🇾
I liked you doing the tutorial 👍🏾
Great vidoe. Have you/ can please you do a video on which oils penetrate best and if any such as coconut oil actually moisturize hair? Thank you
So true I am using grease for some time and I am seeing less breaking and more length ❤🇬🇾
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!! I LOVE the video tutorial on how to moisturize with hair grease! I have some blue magic but because of all hair grease hate and the no oils butters stuff being said I’m STILL a little wary 😢🙄😢But I trust your knowledge so I just got to get over it. Thank you for this. I will rewatch until I get a breakthrough!!!! Will the hair grease come out with a regular shampoo or must I CLARIFY???
Protective hairstyles and moisturising ❤
Loved the video!!!
Thank you!! :-)

Thank you. More tutorials please
Bless you, sister, for bringing back what is good for our hair, no more money wasting on rubbish products
As a kid, my mom used hair grease religiously on my natural hair. My hair thrived, grew, whatever, when she used it. Fast forward nearly 40 years, and I still see the same results today. I get frustrated when folks in the natural hair community, especially, demonize hair grease. And they can't back it up with science to dispel or prove whatever they're pushing. I have no idea how it works or why it works, but I see results every. single. time. It makes me think that some of the "old ways" of doing things are oftentimes better (though not every time). Thanks for this. Feels good to find someone in this space who can verify/attest to the benefits of hair grease backed by science. Enjoyed this!
It's so weird, because it was always a staple in black haircare.
Hair grease was demonise when a lot of new hair products flooded the market 😊
Thank you SO much for these informative videos!!
Question, do you do products reviews?
I have been formulating and making natural hair products for about 7 years now and I would love if you would try them and give a professional review. 😊
Hi Tonya I'm really following you since 2017
Thank you for this!! Definitely would love more tutorials! I’m still working on length retention 😬

Thanks so much! I did love this video. I’m going to get back to using grease bc it was all I used as a little girl! Question.. do u have a favorite that smells good or at least less “greasy”? I remember always smelling like I was heading to Easter Sunday service in my patent leather shoes, LOL!!!
Thanks again sis❤
Hey 😊 new subscriber here! So glad i stumbled across your channel. I was wondering if hou could do a video on looking after natural hair when swimming on a regular basis. Especially when working out as well. What affects does sweat and chlorine have on our natural and how can we cambat it?

I use hair grease when I shampoo and condition hair. My short Afro has grown and thrived with hair grease. There are a couple of brands that definitely work for my hair. I tune for more of your videos.
How often do you put grease on your Afro? I’ve tried to use grease on my short Afro, but after a day, my hair doesn’t look good. What’s your daily routine if you don’t mind me asking?
Hi. I use Camille Rose honey leave in, spray my hair with water until it's wet (not dripping), vitamin E cream (not sure if it does anything), and seal with lanolin. I don't like using petroleum on my hair or skin because I don't like how it looks or feels (it feel gross). This has been helping my hair stay moisturized, especially when I have braided hair extensions.
You suprised us with the little tutorial. And I love suprises. Even the little ones😅

I love using oils on my twists but my using my leave in with grease might just be the answer to going a full week without re oiling instead of every few days!
