This reminds me of the "Batman '89" comic that was supposed to be a sequel to Batman Returns and features a lot of talk about Critical Race Theory concepts that were not in the common parlance in the early '90s.
They made a far bigger deal about Harvey Dent being black (because he was still being drawn to look like Billy Dee Williams) than the Tim Burton movie did. This despite the Burton movie being made 35 years ago, and being set in a city so disgustingly corrupt that a known mobster and serial killer can personally carry out a hit in broad daylight.
At least the adventures continues (a BTAS continuation) run was ok-ish. I loved how the ventriloquist had a redemption ark. Would've made a great episode.
The art was nice...and that's about it. I was excited to read it. Issue one and it was already channeling BLM and other woke talking point and I tapped tf out.
Eric July does a great analysis on how the "Xmen is an allegory for discrimination" arc isn't really true. Personally I always saw it as more of an analogy to teen angst, as you didn't become a mutant until your teenage years Sucks about Rogue though, my first serious cartoon crush 😂
So what's your stance on it now that it's fully been released, and it turned out to be the best damn X-Men adaptation to ever exist outside the comics? Have you changed your opinion or are you still convinced that the show is trash? Or will you go so far and admit that this shit was just meant to be rage-bait, and views were the only real goal?
X-men 97' was a well indended failure at entertainment. Imagine a guy who stays with a girl for years/decades despite not being able to touch her, and then when she finds someone she can touch she dumps him. Gambit was a hero and rogue became a zero. Absolute trash writing that makes you hope they will kill more characters before they can do more damage to their image.
Lonely alienated kids that were comic book fans sympathized with the central theme of X-Men. Regardless of whatever real life events might have inspired the authors, for the kids watching the show back then it had nothing to do with race or sexuality or whatever the people trying to hijack this want to. Plus you know, big guns, time travel, hot girls, epic fights, telenovela-esque drama. What was the whole social activism component really? like 3%? Also no matter what they claim, this show will never reach the nuance or introspection of say, that one Nightcrawler episode where Wolverine goes back to church.
The comics were layered. Yes, was it to relate to disenfranchised kids? Absolutely. But race relations were definitely and inspiration. Idk why this hyper conservative agenda wants to deny this.
@OkPe-ww5rs Son, you want me to give you evidence that is everywhere? And you know that RUclips doesn't allow for outside links. Grow up. You lost this one.
@solblackguy *SPOILERS* You mean the episode where they destroyed rogue because she spent decades with a guy who loved her despite not being able to touch her, and as soon as she has an opportunity to get with a guy she can touch, she dumps gambit. Full hoar behavior out of a once beloved character. Then to make it worse, they ruin gambit by making him fine with it, well fine but not fine. I was actually happy to see gambit die so they couldnt do any more damage to him and was wishing they had killed whor- I mean rogue. This was the most egregious incident in the 5 episodes i struggled through before completely abandoning the series, but there were numerous problems: animation that also looks like its 15fps, wasted scenes dancing? Tik tok fortnite inspired writing. Most of the episodes lack any action until the last 6 minutes. I give it a 2/10 for at least a good effort.
Stan Lee himself, in his own words stating X-Men and the connection to the Civil Rights Movement: "Then it occurred to me that instead of them just being heroes that everybody admired, what if I made other people fear and suspect and actually hate them because they were different? I loved that idea; it not only made them different, but it was a good metaphor for what was happening with the civil rights movement in the country at that time." Source: The Guardian

I think the "stuck in the past" thing isn't a huge issue, if you can acknowledge there were issues. I mean it's not a new thing, people all but worshiped old writers like Dickens or Shakespeare as if they were some kind of flawless writing gods. But it was that attachment that got us so many remakes, adaptations etc of the old material to keep it alive. Look at even things like Disney who took ancient fairy tales like Snow White or Rapunzel and adapted it in such a way that not only were they good movies, they brought the old stories back into main stream consciousness. Just because something is old doesn't mean it should be forgotten.

Very beginning of the 1st X-men film brought up the question of people unchecked with powers could cause harm with Jean Grey reminding people that you can't just answer the question of are mutants dangerous as they are people different from one another. Now comics just call the one questioning that bigots. This was why Xavier created the school cause he knew that the students had to be discipline 1st and foremost.
If you think about it, mutants are a big problem that government and society might want to be concerned about. You have reality-warping mutants who are a threat to life on Earth.
Disagree with your hot take on nostalgia, particularly when the 'moving on' doesn't live up to the past. And furthermore, what are culture and traditions if not nostalgic? I would say the problem is less nostalgia writ large and more people letting their nostalgia get the better of them and be weaponized against them to the point they're suckered into something just because it wears the skin of something they love from the past.
Like the USA..they hated comics so they decided to inflitrate them and destroy them from within..making them so unrecognizable that even the die hard fans have to step back and squint thier eyes to see a resemblance of something they once loved..

9:38 Imagine if this scene aired today. @@jameshurley776 I'm not familiar with kino... is this a reference to her martial arts prowess? She *is* a badass. But that's comic canon too... I do credit Justice League Unlimited for introducing me to that aspect of her, though. I hadn't started really getting into comics at the point when I had first started watching any of the various classic DC animated series, so it was the first time that I got exposed to Dinah as her own character instead of just as Ollie's love interest. Although the show did suffer from having too many characters, it was a good way to introduce its audience to a variety of different heroes from the DC Universe.
Only for women tho! The men of X-men still have jaw lines, biceps, abs, pecs galore, but only women can’t have “unhealthy” body standards, if 100 men die from steroid abuse chasing a physique oh well, but one girl gets bulimia and the entire entertainment industry must adapt.
Your final point is one of the reasons I enjoy going back to watch these older shows. They had better values. The “SJWs” of today were rightly depicted as misguided villains driven by hatred such as Magneto & in other shows like Gargoyles the character of Demona who wants to punish an entire race based on things that happened hundreds of years ago.
DC too. Look at the new Power Girl series by Leah Williams. They gave her a stupid jacket, changed her name from Karen to Paige, and she is jealous of Supergirl (Power Girl is strictly a stronger, more confident, better looking version of her from Earth-2).
It's a performance. Dudes whole channel is topical culture war b/s. Once something new comes out, they'll all forget about X-Men and complain about that. Playing Champions or Villans and Vigillantes back in the day, (superhero role playing games) you quickly realized it was much easier to make the character a mutant than come up with a creative unique backstory. X-men was never a metaphor for racism, it just was used that way by some
Why would Gambit's power explode Wolverine' skeleton? -- once charge it only explode on impact, non? -- also Wolverine' skeleton is indestructible... non?
Adamantium is indestructible.....or at least it was before the woke-mob took over comics. They aren't big on following the established lore, so it wouldn't surprise me if they changed it. Gambit has to touch the things he wants to energize I think. So if he didn't touch the claws. The energy had to have gone through Logan's body and still be there, inside of him when he uses the claws. No?
I personally like the 90's animated series. I think they went with a different animation studio that was cheaper due to budget constraints and it showed in the episode "Graduation Day".
Since they made Morph non-binary...does that mean Morph is voiced by a non-binary? How many of the mutants are voiced by people with mutations? Need to have fair representation and all
Diversity and Comics shared a screen shot that the quote about Morph isn't from the show-runners. That quote is from a journalist writing about the show. The creators never said that about Morph. Empire Magazine did.
There's one thing I want to defend in the trailer and I can't believe I'm using X Men Origins Wolverine to do it, but that movie showed Gambit charge his staff and then smack things with it to release the energy and not damage the staff. Maybe it's from the comics, I don't know, but the trailer did not invent it. The powering up claws thing can work.
The stroke width felt off. Like it was made in Flash with no pressure sensitivity. All the outline have the same stroke width. Some closeup shots felt like it was not drawn large but zoomed in and blown up 500% which is why it feels so blurry sometimes. The animation has minimal ease-in/ease-out, spacing, framing, as well as anticipation and follow-through. Sentinels felt like they have no weight or momentum. It's like... 2024 regressed rather than improved in animation skills. Was it generated by AI or something? Their lack of understanding for the basic animation principles feels akin to AI not knowing how many fingers a hand has.

Exactly. I was so excited for that run and it’s basically BLM nonsense under the guise of a Batman Returns sequel. So gross.
The art was nice...and that's about it.
I was excited to read it. Issue one and it was already channeling BLM and other woke talking point and I tapped tf out.

She's Chinese-American and from California. Unfortunately they never specified it in the show despite her backstory being kind of interesting.
Too bad the show is actually good. Yall are grifters hating on something before even seeing it. 🤦♂️

X-men 97' was a well indended failure at entertainment. Imagine a guy who stays with a girl for years/decades despite not being able to touch her, and then when she finds someone she can touch she dumps him. Gambit was a hero and rogue became a zero. This, nothing is good enough to replace these shows.
I'm looking back wondering where the flying cars and robot butlers we were promised are
Lonely alienated kids that were comic book fans sympathized with the central theme of X-Men.

@solblackguy
*SPOILERS* You mean the episode where they destroyed rogue because she spent decades with a guy who loved her despite not being able to touch her, and as soon as she has an opportunity to get with a guy she can touch, she dumps gambit.

About as subtle as a jackhammer to the rear
The worst part about wokies siding with magneto is that they don't care that the mutants are the privileged ones. There is no better adventage that being a one man army or even a walking nuke. No wonder apocalypse could have a cult
There's nothing wrong with something being maintained in its original condition.

According to stan lee, there was never an allegory. That became a part of the story years later under chris Claremont
And Claremont's X-Men is the definitive version. It's THE run, the one everyone remembers. Stan's run on X--Men wasn't great and the book actually got cancelled under his pen. Stan Lee isn't responsible for all things great about Marvel and it's time you understood that. Stan made Magneto vulnerable to wooden guns.
@@cheapfinish6224 Being able to be hurt by wood makes sense since he’s magnetic and isn’t indestructible. It’s no different than using plastic guns which they do in the movies. Just because Claremont was a good writer doesn’t make them his. That’s like saying if I enjoyed someone else’s interpretation of Taming of the Shrew it no longer belongs to Shakespeare.
@@cheapfinish6224 I don't think anyone could reasonably compare Lee/Kirby to Claremont for quality. It was a good idea to take the story there, but it wasn't intended to be part of the DNA.

He's a bottom feeding low-effort reactionary content grifter. Probably off complaining about the next current thing.
9:38 Imagine if this scene aired today. The writers would probably either forget or just straight-up ignore that Rogue should have gotten a look at Gambit's recent memories and seen that he had just been flirted with and even touched by someone who looks exactly like her (I either haven't seen or don't remember this episode, but I'm assuming Mystique.), and somehow turn it into Gambit's fault for not getting her "continuous consent" or something like that. And then Rogue would need to simultaneously be a Strong Female Character™ and also a Victim™.

I hadn't started really getting into comics at the point when I had first started watching any of the various classic DC animated series, so it was the first time that I got exposed to Dinah as her own character instead of just as Ollie's love interest.
Although the show did suffer from having too many characters, it was a good way to introduce its audience to a variety of different heroes from the DC Universe.
apparently attractive = unrealistic
Only for women tho! The men of X-men still have jaw lines, biceps, abs, pecs galore, but only women can’t have “unhealthy” body standards, if 100 men die from steroid abuse chasing a physique oh well, but one girl gets bulimia and the entire entertainment industry must adapt.
If Disney could tailor an old story to fit anyone but themselves they might not turn everything to garbage.
Old comics featuring "Powergirl" would give Disney seizures.
DC too. Look at the new Power Girl series by Leah Williams. They gave her a stupid jacket, changed her name from Karen to Paige, and she is jealous of Supergirl (Power Girl is strictly a stronger, more confident, better looking version of her from Earth-2).

Playing Champions or Villans and Vigillantes back in the day, (superhero role playing games) you quickly realized it was much easier to make the character a mutant than come up with a creative unique backstory. X-men was never a metaphor for racism, it just was used that way by some
Mutant registration is more comparable to gun control.
Why would Gambit's power explode Wolverine' skeleton?
-- once charge it only explode on impact, non?
-- also Wolverine' skeleton is indestructible... non?
GAMBIT who nearly eclipsed the megastar mutant WOLVERINE hasn't transcended the 90's
Empire Magazine did.
what's crazy to me is that so many people in the year 2024 thought the new XMEN show made by Disney wouldn't be woke trash

Stan Lee addressed the supposed correlation between racial discrimination and the X-Men and said that it was not the case.
The made Rouge into Taylor Swift..
The stroke width felt off. Like it was made in Flash with no pressure sensitivity. All the outline have the same stroke width. Some closeup shots felt like it was not drawn large but zoomed in and blown up 500% which is why it feels so blurry sometimes.
