    • @Amadeus_A
      @Amadeus_A Месяц назад +40

      @terryd4373 Honestly, as an Asian American also, I would not want to be called "oriental." It's trying too hard to make it sound "exotic." Like the "other" world. The "mysterious land unlike the west."
      Edit: I'm genuinely surprised with the amount of pushback I am getting. Do people think I'm actually offended? I agree, Oriental isn't something to get offended over. It's not derogatory. It's so stupid it's funny. May I remind you that even OP laughed when someone called him "oriental."
      I'm just elaborating why, like OP, am laughing that someone thinks it's "proper." Maybe OP and I have different reasons for why it's funny. Maybe you are from an older generation and actually think it's "proper." I'm just explaining why I think it's funny. And if you disagree, that's fine. Many Latinos have to live with some people calling them Latinx. I can live with some people calling me oriental. But I'll still be laughing.

      7- Two consecutive quarters of negative GDP is not what a recession is.
      8- Inflation isn't 8.5 percent like the records state, it is actually 0! I fixed it!

Bragging about how "smart" you are after being "educated" by these people is a minus in my book. I can fix almost ANYTHING. I can take a car apart and put it back together again without a guide. I can build small structures up to a house. I can repair engines, motors, pumps, and wiring. I can install and maintain a new plumbing system, electrical, HVAC, and lawn sprinkler systems. I can build landscape decorative waterfalls. All of this actually usefull stuff...I learned it as a child, young man, or from a fellow maintenance mechanic FOR FREE. Hell, I got PAID for it. Here's the real kicker -I probably make more money a year than most of you "educated" people, and I don't have any student debts. I just take care of the peeps that took care of me. No country goes solely by popular vote anyhow. For example in Canada, it's the party with the most seats/districts that selects the PM. Yeah... but unfortunately, a large part of US economy is based on... "wars". Military contractors, part of heavy industry, military paying for education, and a lot more. Whole chains of dependencies. Stock market prices included, as after all - the constant growth is needed, and stock markt price of military contractors (and various corporations connected with them) must grow.
      The above is oversimplification without mentioning goepolitics and so on, but there is no question that a large part of US economy i based on military spending. And for that... you need "war", or at least a constant threat of some enemy, and it doesn't matter how far that threat is. In that kind of economy - wars (or some local conflicts where US can help its allies) are actually needed.
      But in overall, I agree with you - it is just not gonna happen. It is not just about groceries, and borders as this is just a surface of deeper issues. Try make something like a healtcare "free" for citizens (including something like 6 months of full pay maternity leave, or full pay sick leave - even if it is for 2-3 weeks), like in most of the countries on the planet. Btw, Hispanic means you speak Spanish. That technically includes Spanish people. As in actual Spanish from Spain. Not how Americans used Spanish. It also would include Filipinos as many of them speak Spanish. It was a Spanish colony. Yet a Argentinian, Domican, Mexican, Spanish and Filipino person aren't all the same.
    Latino/a would mean you're from Latin America which is another way to describe South/Central America yet that includes Brazil who don't speak Spanish but rather Portuguese.
    Just slme clarification. I also believe Nixon or someone back then decided to classify everyone as simply Hispanic. It's not offensive but it's incorrect. Also doesn't help many Americans, who's parents came from those countries, are completely ignorant to everything wnd barely speak Spanish yet claim they do. They've lost touch with their own culture and traditions. I was lucky to be shown aand taught about my origins. The US tends to make people be ashamed of their roots. Sad.

Before that all I ever saw about the election when it came to "things X candidate said" and video clips, was "Trump bad, Harris good".
      And those clips of Harris lying and pandering really opened my eyes to the fact that while Trump was painted as this lying piece of shit, Harris was barely any better. She too tried to heavily lean into the voters' emotions. She too lied. She too had trouble debating properly when she couldn't use premade answers.
      I still believe Trump was the worse candidate. But I can also fully understand why so many people voted for Trump now. At least he was fairly blatant with his lies. And at least he made the American people FEEL like they were being heard.
