Wicked finale to a damn-near flawless season. This series set a pretty high bar, not just for future MCU titles and even future seasons... but just future iterations of the on-screen X-Men. I know we're all pretty stoked for Deadpool Vs. Wolverine, and the X-Men's eventual introduction to the live-action MCU, but honestly all of those will have the tough task of following this show up in terms of providing a definitive version of the X-Men on screen. Watching this show on a weekly basis just really made me realize just how much the Fox X-Men movies had failed to do over 20 years of entries, even with phenomenal entries like "Logan" and "Days of Future Past." This show just really successfully showcasesdthe plight of the X-Men and Mutants on a global scale, and treated it with such respect and dire, and made us feel how unsafe the world they live in really is. Not only that, but unlike the live-action films, the show was also able to showcase just how cool the multiple members of the X-Men who aren't called "Wolverine," really are. 22:29 So, little correction here. While Gambit does die in the comics, him becoming a horseman of death was actually voluntary and not because he got resurrected. The gambit dying part is from a different comic run than the one where he becomes death.
It really does make you realise that marvel’s critical issue is not the fading of quality itself, but the fading of quality control. The fact that the same studio that wrote this award-worthy dialogue wrote the recent garbage on Disney plus. Feige needs to stop trying to be everywhere at once and stop listening to his moronic woke executives and start letting people cook. Take writers that know and like the material, give him a story you want told, and say ‘how much do you need?’. Cause that’s what this is, and it fuckin WORKS.
I love Adam's reaction (the comics reader reactions xD) and trying not to tell Jay, it is very cool and cute. I like your duo guys. We will remember this season, no problem Gambit
I love how this show has been like "Yeah, Charles and Eric are totally a couple with some serious toxic issues to work out" and just have that vibe underwrite every bit of dialogue they have together.
The MCU's Xmen are going to have a hard time living up to this show. Like, "10 out of 10 Dad Moments" or "20 out of 20 Spitting Facts". With it's history of relying heavily on quips over actual sincerity, too much CGI when practical would work just as well in a lot of cases, and have a habit of leaning on spectacle over character competence... I'm not sure how they're going to do it, honestly. Forget for a moment the art of the LIPS, and note that moments of intimacy in this show focused on the characters' hands. “The heart is the toughest part of the body. Tenderness is in the hands.” ― Carolyn Forché. And they showed a lot of intimate moments between characters - it was quite refreshing! This show has more earnestness, spice, and heart in it than we've seen in a while, and this is up there with Andor for me for heavy hitters who have no right to go this hard.
I understand why people call it "the best thing Marvel has ever done", but honestly, Avengers Earth Mightiest Heroes is on par with this, if not better. I mean, it's an X-Men show and we didn't see Iceman, or Havok, or the actual Angel. And the cameos felt a little bit forced just to have fans react. Meanwhile, AEMH had everything from Spidey to Wolverine, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, the Fantastic Four, Skrulls, Hydra, A.I.M, Ultron, the Masters of Evil, the best Dr Doom depiction ever on screen, and freakin' Galactus, and none of them were just cameos and easter eggs. Hard to top that.
This season finale was great and I had tears well up when Scott is talking to Nathan, as it hit me right in my Dad feels. All the cameos were awesome too and what's great about animation is they can show a character and don't have to have an actor or actress cast to play them. I was literally like "WHAT!? CLOAK & DAGGER!?!" when Cloak teleported in. Easily the best Marvsl content I've seen in years I can not wait for Season 2 AND I would loose my SHIT if they brought the Spider-Man animated series back too. Just do the thing Marvel, I'm hear for it.
Mother Adkani, who was the old lady in the robe in the future, and as others have pointed out was guests voiced by the fabulous Gates, is Rachel Summers, Scott and Jean's daughter from an alternate dystopian future where she was a hound hunting other mutants. There's a whole thing with this crazy cyborg named Ahab who runs the hounds and works for the sentinels in that timeline and then when Rachel finally rebels against him, he is throws were in a concentration camp. Anywho, later on she gets pushed into the time stream and ends up in the far future where she founds the clan Askani because in the future language, (which by the way is another dystopian future, but one where Apocalypse has come out triumphant), "Askani" translates to something like outsider, which was the closest thing she could think of that compared to the term X-Men. She then sends one of her clan folk back in time to rescue her Nathan, to bring him to the future and then in the Cyclops and Phoenix miniseries (which was adapted in the series as Madeline. Sending Nathan with Bishop into the future). She reaches out and snags the psyche of Scott and Jean and pulls them into cloned bodies of themselves and they end up raising Nathan in the future. How this will be adapted to fit X-Men 97 timeline I'm looking forward to seeing. We saw Rachel briefly in cable's future flashback where she's fixing qhat is presumably the Golden Gate Bridge and she has the black striped hound markings on her face. If you look closely at Mother Askani the same markings but they're more of a light red color. Rachel was also a host to the Phoenix Force, and for quote a long time.
I've never seen the original X-Men or even the full thing of this new one but I kept hearing about moments so watched reactions on RUclips and now I want to watch the full thing! It seems a lot better and surprisingly more mature than I thought! I really want to see what the rest is like now lol
They cooked this season. My expectations were very low but this and episode 5 were monumental. Even bothering to dress everyone in their original clothes so that the glimpses of the future in the classic show remain accurate was masterful execution. Now we will probably see them causing Apocalipse to exist
Forget “Magneto was right”, turns out that “Bastion was right”. That line is so punchy because it’s delivered with the conviction that can only come from being right about something.
Before the episode has even started, Adam is absolutely geeking out, with every right of course, but like JUST HIT PLAYYYY! And then Jay's vibe is just like, "Yeah, YEAH HIT PLAYYY!"
This episode is many amazing things, but one of the things that I think people aren't consciously realizing is that this was the most perfect example of the Marvel comics universe we've gotten outside of comics since Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. We got the stars of the show doing their thing, but we also get to see what everyone else is doing in response to this world-scale event. We got the street-levels dealing with the blackout chaos, Cap and Stark protecting the President and what I assume is his cabinet, Silver Samurai...just chilling, Doctor Strange performing surgery with magic and floating candles! And then the global scale of the sentinels with Cap and Stark again, the street levels again, the Winter Guard in Russia, T'Chaka and the Dora Milage in Wakanda, Psylocke and Alpha Flight in Genosha, it was all so good and believable and it felt like a comic book! This is why it's such a good thing that 99% of Marvel rights are under one studio because now stuff like this is possible
It's an amazing coincidence how this show's climax sort of mimics the actual comic storyline right now. TLDR version, humans and AI conspired to eliminate Mutants, but the AI pulled a double cross to eliminate humans as well.
Yeah if it can be of equal quality, and thats a BIG IF, I hope they do a whole 90s verse. Bring us Spider-man 98, then Avengers 99, and Fantastic Four 94.
I agree this show has no right to be this good, the perfect blend of nostalgia ,meta and just a damn good time. All i need now is season 2 to start next week, to steal a line from Wade and Logan "LETS F****ING GO". I can see it now X-Men 97 season 2 - return of the lips lol. Although with ancient Egypt being on the cards i wonder if Apocalypse could actually be a Goa'uld...... Stargate confirmed ?
To say that this series is epic would be an understatement! Boy, have I been waiting for Jay and Adam's reaction to this episode for way too long (two long days)! ❤️😂
okay, about the show. a). this show, the hype, the feeling of what-comes-next ... i haven't REALLY felt this way since WandaVision. not that i didn't love all my shows; they're great and great fun. but the level of i-need-this is WandaVision levels. b). i jolted my whole body seeing Peter and MJ! they're reunited! he FOUND HER! [spider blood, spider blood, radioactive spiderblood. spider man] c). absolutely stellar season! i just ... i honestly worry about a Beau-less season three but i have faith in the TEAM and finally, whatever the live action X-Men end up being, i feel satisfied with THIS product. writing, animation, voice acting, score, big fights, intimate moments, sticking to story. perfection. The end of this reaction might be the most Bert and Ernie you two have been yet 😂😂😂
This is probably the best season finale ever. I can't wait for season 2: attack of apoca-lips. I REGRET NOTHING
Easily one of the greatest series of all time, as a side note, you two are my favorite reactors hands down!
24:11 I am sure T'Challa does have lips, but this is 97. that was T'Chaka as also seen in the X-Men: The Animated Series episode "Sanctuary".
before i even dive in, thank you for your vibe and energy. as always, you two rock on and i [we all] love ya. i know editing can be level stress but i thank you for keep doing it. maximum fairy dust. okay now to x-men 97 🙂
Thank you so much!!
Been looking forward to your reaction this week and each week, it's been a blast watching along with you guys. See ya in the discord
22:29 So, little correction here. While Gambit does die in the comics, him becoming a horseman of death was actually voluntary and not because he got resurrected. The gambit dying part is from a different comic run than the one where he becomes death.
X-Men97 deserves an Emmy
Your reactions made this season even better for me. Thanks guys!
Gambit didn’t actually die in the comics. He turned himself over to Apocalypse to try to stop him from un a-living everyone else.
This series completely blew away my eXpectations. I'm just so very happy with it. Really looking forward to season 2🔥
Get ready for the inevitable moment Rogue has to tell Horseman Gambit "Your name is Gambit, remember it!"
I love Adam's reaction (the comics reader reactions xD) and trying not to tell Jay, it is very cool and cute. I like your duo guys.
We will remember this season, no problem Gambit
Circling back to the lips bit from the very first reaction was comedy genius, you brilliant bastards 😂😂😂
I love how this show has been like "Yeah, Charles and Eric are totally a couple with some serious toxic issues to work out" and just have that vibe underwrite every bit of dialogue they have together.
Fun easter egg for the movies, in the "magneto protocols" folder , the 2 aliases are Ian and Michael (the last names are redacted)
My GOD I needed this video after today. Thank you!
It was great sharing this ride with you guys! Can't wait for the next season. This was unbelievable!
Absolutely that it’s so good for react channels, it’s the big moments boyo!!!!
Jay's laugh at the end killed me 😂
Beau DeMayo may have been fired for being an insufferable prick, but he's obviously VERY proud of this season, and he should be.
17:45 I hate that Adam never lets Jay just have an emotional moment without calling attention to it...
27:09 You guys are ridiculous. That is so funny. I can't even speak right now. You guys are the best.
Yes, Adam--Rogue and Bastion were in the Blue Area of the Moon. Where the Watcher lives. 😊😊😊😊
I think the Morph dialogue was definitely column A and column B. They're saying it as Jean to soothe Logan, but they're also saying it for themself.
I LOOOOOVE BATMAN, but season 1 of Xmen 97 is going to go down in history as the greatest single season of an animated show EVER.
HOLY SHIT.
I mean, look. It was very very very cool and a masterpiece but could you imagine this as a live action movie?
Definitely in the top 5 of best animated series of all time
What are the others?
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Simpsons
Family Guy
South Park
That X Men intro freestyle was everything my nerdy heart needed 🤣🤣
How did they make a seething, yet still sassy, line-delivery of “There’s just one pickle, dear…” hit so good?!
Saying “your mom’s the future incarnate” to Nightcrawler, whose mother is Destiny is a wild thing
I watched this on 1.75x speed and Jay's laugh after his rating sounded like a diabolical chipmunk.
It was _awesome._
PEACHES WE'VE GOT THE ... LIPS?
Even i had to face palm the "Apocalips" pun at the end😂😂
Yeah if it can be of equal quality, and thats a BIG IF, I hope they do a whole 90s verse. Bring us Spider-man 98, then Avengers 99, and Fantastic Four 94.
18:20 I had the exact same reaction. I’m just going to”WAIT WAIT WAIT!!! You can’t just drop that cameo then move on!”
Was that Flash behind Peter holding the bag?
…It was Morph talking. I mean he was saying what Jean can’t say but it’s their sentiment as well clearly.
*they
I agree this show has no right to be this good, the perfect blend of nostalgia ,meta and just a damn good time.
Psylocke is mine favorite marvel superheroes & X-Men character ever in my heart along with Black Panther & Spider-Man💙
You guys make me laugh my ass off every time I watch you. I love this channel!❤
5:58 Trying to win an internet argument: visualized. 😅
Charles: 😣😖😤 ))))))))))))))))))
Magneto: "😣😤😫CHARLES! PLEASE!"
((((🧠🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯😫😫😫😫😫)))))
To say that this series is epic would be an understatement! Boy, have I been waiting for Jay and Adam's reaction to this episode for way too long (two long days)! ❤️😂
okay, about the show. a). this show, the hype, the feeling of what-comes-next ... i haven't REALLY felt this way since WandaVision. not that i didn't love all my shows; they're great and great fun. but the level of i-need-this is WandaVision levels. b). i jolted my whole body seeing Peter and MJ! they're reunited! he FOUND HER! [spider blood, spider blood, radioactive spiderblood. spider man] c). absolutely stellar season! i just ... i honestly worry about a Beau-less season three but i have faith in the TEAM and finally, whatever the live action X-Men end up being, i feel satisfied with THIS product. writing, animation, voice acting, score, big fights, intimate moments, sticking to story. perfection. [thanks for letting me ramble, iChuckle]
