Cutting Up A 1968 Mopar B Body - Resurrecting a '68 Plymouth Satellite Part 4

- It's time to move onto the body rust of the old 1968 Plymouth Satellite. The car is extremely structurally sound but does require a fair bit of exterior sheet metal repair. Luckily quarter panel skins were relatively cheap and I found a set of second hand truck drop downs. Within a few days this old hotrod will be rust free and back to her former glory.
Lots of cutting, sparks, welding and grinding in this episode.

I can't thank you enough for this video Dan. With all of the turmoil going on in the United states government right now. I just really needed something to get me out of my depressed mood and smile again. Thank you so much for entertaining us. Looking forward to the next one
Hang in there Man! Better days ahead..
@@Stahodad Thanks you. I appreciate that very much
It is very satisfying when you can stand back and see a full rear quarter and not a bunch of holes nice job
Just knowing you are in the garage filming things for us every day is awesome thanks dan you guys need a vacation
Thanks for watching man!
Im glad you shared this, I like this method of but welding by cutting the fat out as you tack weld the quarter in.. Nice!
I saw the 45% trick at Fitzees Fabrications.
Your decision to match the weathered green paint makes me sooo happy! I was hoping you would paint it that way.
Old time garage is great! They mention you there too. Rick is a fan
Rick is pretty 😎 awesome
Old time is another one for good content.
Nice! I love rick
I'm suscribed to both channels, learn a lot from them. Great repair, keep the videos coming. Regards !!
The two panel stitch cut is by far the best method.
I like your style. Your doing great on the 68. Keep up the good work. Can't wait till its complete!
That piece in the trunk pan is called a Trunk Extension. Nice work my friend!
Paint, don't paint, it don't matter. The structure repair you are doing is most important. You are going to have a very solid hotrod!!!
I know a guy who's using 1grit with factree results 👍
Great work Dan!
Is it a 1 grit brick
Fitzees fabrication would be proud. Great job!
You did a nice job on that quarter. The Plymouth goin to be cool.
dan, you work at speed! wow!
tip for you...zinc primer inside and out, then epoxy primer, then filler, finishing primer and paint.
you are a machine killing it glad you include us
Nice clean job of replacing that quarter panel, glad you bought that trunk extension that would have been a dead giveaway that someone had been in there before. Now that problem is finished. fourty years in the future all of your work will look like origional Mopar production. Great job of saving an old Plymouth. Enjoy watching and learning on all your builds
Looking great, can’t wait to watch the other side.
2 things Dan. The car deserves a scuff and shoot green to match the rest not patina....gotta think long term more money. And two, you need to make up some tire rigging blocks that put the car up so you dont have to be on the floor all the time...helps with the old man back 👍🤣
Love the green glad that you are keeping it especially with how clean the under hood is on that car man Dan this is going to be a really nice car when it's done (done lol)
Full paint job. Will look way cool.
Plymouthy. Great name for my firstborn.
primer is great to leave it in for the look I just had rust that's left for " patina "
Good tip on the 45 degree cuts. And yes it will give a lot closer gap to weld.
Good progress. A lot of work to get that rear quarter on. Glad you put in new trunk extensions. It’s a neater job in the long run.
Man that thing is coming around I can't wait to see it finished
I had a '69. Love the lines on them. It's looking good dude!
Great job man...When doing skins I flange the edge of the body right above the cut, creating a step so that the new quarter skin can lay flush with the body and it's easier to weld with less chance for warping..You can get a little vicegrip type flanger for cheap, and it makes skins a little easier..Full quarters are the best of course, but as you said..."they ain't cheap" and don't make sense on every car.
Nicely Done!! Can't wait for the next installment........
Looks good, great job man! I envy your skill.
I would say that piece welded on the wheel tub...Was a piece welded on to use as a pull point when straightening out the tub after accident...
Great work Dan. Diggin this build and can’t wait to hear what motor you find for it.
Love this stuff the 1971 C10 is educational cause I’m working on a 1971 Jimmy.
Great work. I like how so many people want you to paint it so you can make more money. It seems to me that you usually sell your cars after. A person looking for a good project car would like your cars because most of the hard work has been done already. They can paint it however they want. You don’t come across as a guy who is in it to get rich. Just someone who likes working on old cars.
Thats kinda how I see it too. Thanks buddy.
You are very talented metalworker.
That’s some of the finest work you’ve done Future Dan 👍👍
Man I'm digging the two tone black and green /and that its new and old metal
Dan that is the best work Ive seen you do. GOOD job on that 1/4.. NOW take that DAM door handle off and lock cyl and get a correct green for that PLYMOUTH and do the rest of the job like you did that 1/4.
You should give it away at 75000 subscribers!!!!! Good job man
U cover the cost of the car and you got a deal my friend.
Hell yeah nice work dan on the roach runner one step closer to getting it on the road
Once again it looks good, thanks for the update. Love this build good to change it up now and then but we are all waiting on the wagon. Lol
To be honest, i like that car, i like this kind of green , i like the patina and i also like that you are about to fake patina it like the rest of the car already looks like! And you did a very good job again!
Always makes me nervous when large sections have to be cut off. You’re making quick work of it tho.
Good god Dan the way you run the grinder and welder you could repair teeth fillings with ease . Excellent work buddy . Give the ol’ hounds a pet for me will ya’ . Cheers
nice job thumbs up shared great progress
Wow Dan it looks great!
I know you have done this kind of work a lot and some of the easier to you stuff may be boring, but I love your channel, not others and I want and need to learn some of your tricks but can't see them if you jump/skip too much, but thx for the entertainment and i really appreciate the education. I will watch either way
Or, this fine Plymouth!
I personally love the ratty muscle car look because that's what I have but you should paint it! It would be cool to see you paint a car in a video besides primer. lol. But great work on that quarter! looks awesome!
I would like to no where you are getting these panel's so cheap Please What company?
@@timatwell3728 Hey man, check out Summit Racing I found some pretty reasonably priced rear quarter skins on there.
My brother-in-law works at a big car dealership in the body shop. He works on new jeep products. When they replace panels he glues them on. He says it works great, and there is no heat distortion. I asked if that was something new . he said no, they been doing it for years now. Who knew!!!.
Reminds me of the green 68 coronet 440 4 door 318 I learned to drive with...best 600 bucks I ever spent back then
It's looking good there Dan.
I’m in Australia and used to ship cars here from the states . I must have seen at least a dozen times a rear quarter skin put straight over the top of the rooted one ..haha . I learned to look inside the trunk under the carpet for sledgehammer marks.. Nice body guys in the lower 48 ..
Yeah iv seen that a time or 2 haha
you are doing a great job car is going to be awesome
Cool! Nice job Dan
The whole time I wanted you to give us a shot straight down the quarter. First big panel I ever did that mattered was the wheel arches in my 8’ fleet side bed.. never again, next time I’m buying new bedsides lol. Let’s just say I’d never be brave enough to paint it gloss black 😆
Well done once again Dan!!!!
You got passion! Looks great
Awesome job as always
DD put a 426 Hemi in that beast🚨😀😃😄😁❄️⛄☃️
Looking great!! Would be sweet gloss black!!!!!
Smart to buy the drop outs. Rattle can the car color on the door and quarter primer. With bottle caps on steel wheels it will look like a early 60's sleeper. Even some new cars were bought to look that way then.
Stella is Looking Good!
I love to tell the story about a year and half ago a guy drove up in my favorite car a 1968 Camero RS. It was totally redone with shiny red paint, a crate motor and five speed everything. I was sitting in a chair and the guy who he pulled up to talk to was sitting closer to him. The quarter panel on the drivers side had to have been put on but the body line did not line up with the door, it was off so bad it jumped out at me, it was at least an inch off. I asked him if he had done the work and he said no he just bought it, I asked him if he liked it and he said he loved it. He was about 35. I never said another word. When he left I asked the guy I was with if he noticed the body line, he was the same age as the guy and not a car guy, he said he didn't. I told him about it and told him not to tell the guy because he had the car for a couple of months. It was so bad it set my OCD off like a match tossed into a fireworks tent. From where I am sitting yours looks good, you I would tell if it was off but you would have a runaway if it was off so I know it won't happen
Nice work Dan!
Green and dog dish would look nice.
Keep up the great work
It's looking great, and yes those marker lights are a 68-69 only
Great repair Dan, I saw a very similar repair technique over on Fitz channel. At least it aint all minty green anymore lol
Nice job. Looks amazing.
So glad you’re keeping the patina and doing another paint match!
Awesome work
You make it look easy! I like the idea for the paint.
Looking good!
Great video 👍 Dan appreciate your sharing with us coming along nicely take care
You are doing a great job on the car starting to look good
I like how you did the leading edge of the quarter. I was waffling how I was gonna join the quarters / door posts on the 72 Cutlas notch back to fastback swap. I like how this turned out so will be doing the same. Thanks for the timely video on this! I hope to be tacking mine together next week.
Congrats on the 60k subs. “Just a wee bit early”
The piece on the wheel tub is there because the quarter is so long, adds rigidity support so the quarter won't oil can and flap. Just as a large hood and trunk lid has bracing underneath.
Nice having trim pieces to cover up stuff
Wow great job!!
Looking good. I like that you put in the time and do the job right! THUMBS UP!!!
Good work! Good music too.
Great job Dan
Probably should replace those outer wheel wells
Pretty nice looking work.
Nice 68 Plymouth.
Make it shiny, so many people are going the old patina.. you do good work. Show it off.
Cut and butt. Awesome job!
Looking good and your getting it done in good time !
I loved this Vid Dan.
Master Artist at work. It's time for a paint job bro. Ready to see the painting talent on display. thanks for sharing.
Way to go Dan your work since I've been watching your show as improved you are always really good installing the full quarter panels instead of patch panels seems to really make a hell of a lot better job love your program I'll keep watching thanks a lot
Looking nice, can't wait to see it driving
You should check out Fitzees Fabrications. He is from NFLD and does a lot of hand made tools and panels.
inner wheel well arch 2 strips sheet metal & lots of welding
Another big job done very well. Keep up the good work.
Turning out minty!!
Right on
dam dan you got a hell of alot of patience for a guy with no kids and no drinkin problem lol hell of a good job tho
