- Ratting with a .22 cal Air rifle / Pellet gun
Shot over 100 rats recently on this poultry farm and I'm back for a follow-up shoot. Rats spread disease and often kill young poultry, not to mention consume costly amounts of grain.
They won't take the poison baits and trapping them has proved very difficult. Shooting them is the most effective control method.
The setup I'm running tonight is the FX Impact M3 .22cal air rifle. 600mm barrel, Vipertek suppressor, Saber Tactical arca swiss rail, shooting 15.89gr Hades pellets at 650fps.
Thermal scope is the HikMicro Panther PQ50L V2 sporting new ballistic software.
To say I'm impressed with the image quality out of this device would be an understatement.
Over 100 rats dispatched in 3 hours, most of which were running around through the trees above the pens.
The plan is to do a follow up shoot in the next week or two which should clean up the ones I didn't get tonight.

G'day!, nice one, mate. That certainly makes my four, shot last October round my wild bird feeder, look a bit paltry, pardon the pun. T'wife spotted the first in the garden, got my rifle and sticks, and had the luxury of sitting on the settee arm with the patio doors open. Shooting close up at about 6m, is more difficult than longer shots. She went to the kitchen as she didn't want to see them killed. The third twitched a fair bit, and I heard, "It's still alive" She was only watching garden CCTV on her phone! Big Steve, East Yorks., England.

That laser would be great at dusk and dawn, but your thermal is king at night. Great footage and patience to get the lead pill through all the mesh and branches to apply the medicine to the domes 👍

The Magnetic Mounts you are using, are they available from a Australian distributor or did you have to get them from the supplier in the U.S.A? I just had a look at the website for them in the U.S, and the shipping costs to Australia were well over the top. Thanks

I’m in the UK and air rifles here are limited to sub 12ft/lbs. out of curiosity what ft/lbs is your rifle running at and what distance were you shooting from?

I'm especially impressed with the thermal optics. Not sure it's in my budget though.
I AM curious about the suppressor - any dramas getting a permit? (I'm a "hobby" farmer in rural South Australia - I've heard conflicting advice ranging from "you WON'T get one unless you're employed as a professional contract shooter on Crown Land" to "easy, you just apply with a reason and it's a once off fee")

Not sure about SA but in NSW you pretty much need to be a contract shooter to get a prohibited weapons permit. Even then it's complicated at best.
@@RJMHuntingAustralia "Ah". Yes, that aligns with 1/2 the advice I've had. (It's an odd one, police don't want to give people suppressor permits, yet will be on top of you in a FLASH if there's a "complaint" about noise).

Could you tell me what is the capacity of the tank and do you recharge it with a compressor with a regulator. Always wondered how these tanks were refilled. Love your channel guy . As many have said , excellent shots, id love to be able to do this .Another good video. That fencing is a challenge, but the nosey rat takes the shot . Love it.

rifle runs a 480cc bottle and I refill by either a compressor or a scuba tank

Rear reg on 75 bar, then I just tweak the adjustments till I'm consistently shooting between 650 and 655 fps on the chrony

The laser came from Eagleye Hunting Gear in Sydney. Magnetec mounts aren't available in Australia yet but will be shortly.
