223 is probably the most versatile calibre. I use it for almost everything. I would suggest you go to a gun dealer and handle the rifles before you buy. See which one fits you best and feels the most comfortable to shoulder. Most brands are pretty accurate these days and the calibre you choose should be in line with the intended target species.

308 is effective on pigs out past 500m if you know your bullet drop. 223 out to about 200m on pigs with good shot placement. My 308 is a Rem 700 action and barrel with an MDT HNT26 carbonfibre chassis. Not the smoothest if actions but it gets the job done 👌

Now the next purchase is a Thermal scope, something I can quickly change from the .223 to the . 17, looking at the HIK Micro Thunder with 640 processor
I appreciate the humane way you dispatch the animals. I am a cat lover but I understand how they have gone feral and are wreaking havoc on local critters. I also fly fish. You could make a bit of $$$ with the fur of the rabbits/hares and the foxes for tying of flies for fresh water and marine fishing. Animals carcasses are also good in the compost pile rather than a burn pit. Greetings from the eastern foothills of Alberta Canada.

If this isn't a cash crop farm why shoot Hares? They aren't burrowing animals so don't damage the ground. I understand the shooting of Rabbits, Cats and Foxes but why Hares?
For a number of reasons mate. They are an introduced pest in Australia. European hares can cause significant damage by gnawing the bark of young trees and shrubs. In high numbers (as in the case on this property) they also consume crops.
The density of hares on this property had increased dramatically over the last couple of years due to favourable breeding conditions and low fox numbers as a result of effective fox control. Occasionally the numbers are thinned out to keep them in check.
That was brilliant stuff… What a haul and the mind boggles at how many lambs and how much wildlife you have saved as a result of this trip ( The farmer would have to be deliriously happy) Bravo 👏 👏👏

Here in Texas, hogs are a problem. I’m new to night hunting, and I like the option of being able to record and range find. So I may need to cough up a few thousand USD on night vision gear.
Not actually a wild cat. We don’t have native cats in Australia. Introduced feral cats are responsible for killing millions of our native animals every year.
Yes there is mate. Rabbits usually live in warrens or burrows and are much smaller than hares. Hares live above ground and have much longer ears and hind legs.
Hares and rabbits are a declared invasive pest and not native to Australia. When numbers are up they cause more than their fair share of damage. Erosion, undermining structures, crop losses etc. We often harvest some of the rabbits but I personally don't like to eat hare.
Your videos (plus Nathan’s), should come with a heart warning!. I find myself holding my breath and I’m sure my heart misses a beat while you line up and wait for the right moment 😜Another great video…thank you.

Mainly this years youngsters. A few older ones mixed in there. It is a lambing property so there is always plenty of feed around for them unfortunately
Looks like you where lucky with the hares , they can be a pain in the ass for not stopping or sitting long enough for a clean head shot. love my HMR also Shame you couldn't sell the hares , worth a 20 bill down our way

As a kid I used to see alot of hares around but don't seem to see many these days, never shot them as they didn't do much damage, shot heaps of rabbits though.
Same here mate. Hare numbers have dramatically increased over the last decade in NSW. Some of the properties I go to are infested with them yet 20km away there are bugger all. 🤷♂️
There's no crocodiles in this part of the country mate and more than enough feed about for the carnivorous birds. Really shouldn't feed wild animals. They should be left to do what they do best mate.

Rabbits out to 200m. Prefer foxes to be less than 130m if possible mate.

Unfortunately it's not legal to privately sell culled animals in NSW, not sure about laws in other states. Can't even get a fox bounty up here. 🤦♂️

As a kid I used to see alot of hares around but don't seem to see many these days, never shot them as they didn't do much damage, shot heaps of rabbits though.

Hare numbers have dramatically increased over the last decade in NSW. Some of the properties I go to are infested with them yet 20km away there are bugger all. 🤷♂️

When I lived in Nebraska we used a 22 250 to get rid of the prairie dogs for the ranchers

Instead of throwing the hunt in dead pith better feed crocodiles or meat eating birds.
There's no crocodiles in this part of the country mate and more than enough feed about for the carnivorous birds. Really shouldn't feed wild animals. They should be left to do what they do best mate.
