- Back down south again helping out the farmers, patrolling the paddocks and protecting the lambs.
It's the beginning of winter and lambing is now in full swing across all of the properties I contract to down here.
Our pre-lambing shooting program has already accounted for 115 foxes which will certainly increase the survival rates of the lambs now hitting the ground.
Running solo this trip, so with several farms to visit, it's going to be a very busy few nights.
Base camp is a small cottage kindly provided by one of the property owners, kitchen, toilet, hot shower and a comfortable bed. Very spoilt.
The plan for night 1 was to visit 2 properties side by side about a 30 minute drive from base camp. 12 foxes culled for the night which was a good result considering the amount we'd shot there over the pre-lambing visits.
Night 2 was on a different property a couple of kilometres from where I shot on night 1.
Half way into the 30 minute drive I had car issues, fun and games for sure. Grrrr
Diagnosed as a faulty fuel gauge showing 1/3 of a tank when I was actually out of fuel. Rookie error and quite embarrassing having to call the farmer for help.
In true country fashion, the farmer came to the rescue with a jerry can of diesel and got me back on the road.
Another 15 foxes on the deck after night 2 certainly made all the effort worthwhile.
Night 3 was on the property at base camp. 6000 acres of pristine cropping country dissected by beautiful laneways making it easy to cover ground in the Hilux. Running the ThermTec Wild 650L mounted on the roof and wifi'd to a huge samsung tablet on the dash helping me cover every nook and cranny of the joint.
14 more foxes hit the deck tonight which should hold them in good stead with lambing due to commence on this place in a few weeks time.
Overall, another productive trip in the bag.
Huge thanks to the farmers for their generous hospitality. Always a pleasure to come down and help you guys out. None of this would be possible without you.
For those interested, here is a list of the gear I ran on this contract shoot.
ThermTec Wild 650L on top of the SpyDabot Venom remote control roof mount
HikMicro Panther PQ50L V2.0 thermal rifle scope
HikMicro Habrok 640 thermal binoculars and HikMicro Condor CQ50L monocular.
Sako 85 Stainless Hunter chambered in .223
Southern Cross Small Arms Q2 Moderator
Bexin ST424C Carbon fibre tripod with Sirui K30X ball head to arca swiss mount
Z-Vision RW6 Red / White Light bar
T2 fox whistle

When you hear a fella say "G'day" in the dark, don't stop walking!!! Great Video.
🤣 thanks Peter 👊
@@RJMHuntingAustraliafrom what I saw, keeping on walking won't save you!
😅
@@RJMHuntingAustraliayep he would probably even see you break wind 💨 in fear lol
Thanks a lot mate, because when an Aussie says "G'day" to me these days, it triggers me to start running like a mad man, leaving them wondering what the hell they've done wrong! 😂
Greetz from The Netherlands.
Hahaha sorry mate 👌
Well done mate great work as an indigenous person keep doing what you are doing
Will do champ 👊
You're in a prime spot for a fox pelt car seat cover business
🦊🦊🦊🦊
Do you know anyone, you've sparked my interest 😏
@@RJMHuntingAustralia No sorry mate I live up in Darwin. I know down south in some places you have weekend markets where people sell handicrafts such as leatherwork and pottery. Maybe some of the leatherwork people could make something with furs ? A pity to see stuff go to waste. Where I grew up (southwest WA) long time ago, we used everything and even the guts went into the compost :)
Bloody sheep break your heart at some of the situations they get themselves into, and the foxes are there to take advantage.
That was a cracking shot at the runner, fair play to you Rodney.
Yep. Opportunistic buggers they are. Thanks for the view Paul 👊
Sheep getting into trouble, ha, horses aren't far behind. They're smarter than sheep and think of more complicated ways to stuff things up :)
I reckon the property owners are so happy to have you on site that providing a little cottage with the "luxuries" is the least they can do for you. It means a well-rested pest controller helping out the other properties around the contracted properties.
It's always a pleasure to go down and help them out James.
They'd do anything for you and always very appreciative of the work I do for them. 👌
Never blame it on luck, that lead on a running fox is all skill… great shot
Thanks mate. Not into blowing my own trumpet. 😉
Well done. I'm glad you rescued that mama sheep n her lamb.😊😊
Thanks Cathy.
Fortunate to find her when I did. 👌
@@RJMHuntingAustralia As my dad always used to say, "Sheep have a genius for dying!"
@@mikef.1000 lol.
@@RJMHuntingAustralia I reckon that thermal would pay for itself in a weeks worth of poddy lambs alone.
Absolutely
Only just discovered your videos (thank u, RUclips algorithm...) laughed out loud when you yell out "G'day" before popping em. Good work mate!
Thanks champion.
Hope you enjoys the vids mate 👊
That shot at 8:58 with the running fox was outstanding sir. You led him perfectly.
Thanks mate. Was nice to get that one. 👌
Hôm nay bạn săn bắn, Thu được nhiều lợi phẩm. Bạn bắn rất tuyệt vời..Hi 🇦🇺👍.
The lazer pointer is a good thing don't loose the foxes with that ❤
Fox on the Rock was the Highlight
For me good viewing 😊
The laser works a treat.

No worries champ 👊
Thanks for performing my favourite magic trick again Rodney. The one where you turn live foxes into good ones. Keep up the great work. Regards Mark from Redlands.
Thanks for the visit Mark. Glad you enjoyed it mate 👍
Bit of advice from a friendly sheep farmer!! Always appreciate the help with stuck stock for a start, epic 👌🏻 BUT, and it’s a friendly one (😉) always cut the VERTICAL wire next to where the animal is stuck and then just use your boot and hand to lift the horizontal wires further apart, letting the animal out. Cutting horizontal wires buggers the tension in the wire, even net, where as cutting a vertical doesn’t 👍🏻👍🏻
I'll keep that in mind for next time mate
Well done mate!!💪💪💥💥👍
Thanks you Sir 👊
42! That's probably just shy of a quarter of a good foxers yearly tally here in the UK over multiple properties. Great shooting, thanks for sharing
Thankyou Kieran.
They estimate fox numbers to be in excess of 1.7 millions in Australia. We've certainly got our work cut out for us.
G'Day mate !!!!
G'day buddy 👊
"settle down" 😄 Nice work Rodney well done.
Thank you mate 👊
Just sweet as that runner 🙂💪 you gotta love it 👌👍
Lol. Thanks Marc 👊
Nice job on the foxes. You certainly have that rifle dialled in well. 💪
Thanks Josh, I'm pretty pedantic with it mate. Especially on these properties where longer range shots are often required.

Works really well once you've got it all dialed in mate. 👌
Fantastic shooting as always Rodney! Great video too! 🍻
Thanks for that Mark 👊
Hi there Great and I mea GREAT videos you are doing. The issue with the Hilux is pretty much world wide , I have been caught out three times before I found out about it. Lots of them when the gauge reads 1/4 tank is really empty. I have been on some of the forums and they are saying there is a dry solder joint on the back of the board sear of cluster. Great shooting too keep going.
Thankyou mate.
Fortunately it's all sorted out now 👍
Man... I'm gonna have to get myself an LRF after watching this. Awesome shooting Rodney! 🍻
Yeah. It's good gear mate. 👌
YOU are FLOCKING Legend Mate 🙏👍🙏👍🙏

Hey clarke
Tough break with the lost trap. All trapper s must do their best to minimise this but it has happened to me also. You r very conscientious
Love the channel. Cheers ed
Bit confused by this one mate 🤔
Nice shooting mate! I cant wait to get the new Stellar range with the integrated bal calculator.
Yeah, me too mate 👌
Well done Rod,helping a cast ewe . Super stuff.
Just glad I spotted her when I did mate 👌
@@RJMHuntingAustralia Sadly, some aren't seen, and,it's doubly tragic if there is a lamb/s involved. I'm paraoid, and, lucky that my flock is small enough for a head count every night, and, morning. Did I see you with bolt cutters release a dummy who coudn't get out of ringlock??Ha,ha.Good one,Rod
Always carry a few tools in the ute. Just in case 😉

@@RJMHuntingAustralia Never realized foxes were such a massive problem.
Do you ever encounter snakes?
Rarely mate.
Always keep my eyes peeled though cos I'm not a fan of them 😮
@RJMHuntingAustralia just wanted to know if your shooting from a tripod or off the car? I'm struggling to get steady on my tripod love to hears your tips
95% of what I do is from a tripod mate.
Heavy duty carbon tripod.
Good quality ball head.
Mounted via arca swiss plate
Good stuff!
Thanks!
Great vid, thanks. Well done.
Cheers mate
Never rely on gauges mate, LOL. I also learned that the hard way. Nice shooting, especially that bugger on the toe. O.o Happy Farmers for sure.
Live and learn mate. 😅
All sorted now though 😉
"That will teach you for sticking your head up." You can't teach a DEAD fox new tricks!
Very true 😅
