@KendallGray1 I would personally recommend maybe relocating the entire chicken coop location. You have it kind of tucked away back against the tree line. And I’ve lived it and done it, and you will never beat the predators.. you have to put the coop in more of a secluded location but more in the open and as close as possible to a structure or home. Key is to avoid trees as much as possible. Predators use trees to their advantage and live within the trees. There are more predators than you have chickens or can protect chickens so as I said, it’s a never-ending battle unless you have fully confined chickens. God bless I pray that one day you can keep your chickens happy and healthy with long lives.

But I did successfully raise 127 chickens just this year and I have owned a laying flock of 25+ for the last four years of my life and I am 28 years old and own land and a home with deed in hand. so I think I’m doing somthin right. I learned this the hard way too! Had just let the chickens out of the coop in the morning in broad daylight and went back to the house. Suddenly I see a few chickens out my living room window!! I run to the coop at the bottom of a small hill near our woods and all the chickens are dead. Those three had escaped. No issues for years before this event until we set up the coop near the woods. Also, chicken wire won't stop anything. I noticed you also had regular farm fencing which is good, but predators will burrow under the fencing too. So sad you lost all your birds. Hope you nail those critters and are able to set up a new and better coop and fencing to protect those lovely birds!! I miss having chickens.
The thing is - even if the sights were adjusted right , my husband and I still respect that you kept this in the video. So many people are afraid to post everything but you showed what actually happens in the day by day , minute by minute steps of a country living, hunting , fishing , all that. The gulls and doves are clever in being defensive and safe while chickens are domesticated requiring captivity to survive which is a nice big well built cage or coup. They originally were jungle fowl from India used to replace the old dirty city dove pigeon laying only small eggs and requiring it to be cooked rare to not be tough shoe leather. A peacock in America has to be locked up safe and sound at night and during work time.

The gun was a hooked breach barreled rifle so thinking the sights would be good, I broke down the gun and gave the barrel and lock a good swabbing out so it would be fresh for the next morning's hunt. Right at dawn a nice black bear came sauntering towards me at about 20 yards. I was sitting on the ground in complete camo, and even at that distance he didn't see me. I raised the rifle, cocked it very carefully and pressed the trigger. An explosion filled the woods and when the smoke cleared I looked for the bear. Gone. Complete miss. Later some guys were at the bar where i worked and said thanks for sending that bear to them. I totally missed the bear but one of them hit it and took it out. Lesson learned. ALWAYS sight in the day before the hunt and then don't change anything. A blackpowder gun can be cleaned w/o disassembly using BP solvents and plenty of patches. I wasn't able to see another bear that season, and I never went back later because I moved back to IL and only residents could hunt bear in MN in '77.

This is one of reasons I didn't got any chickens. Hunting the predators like this is illegal here and I just didn't wanted the hustle of building a "bunker" for the chickens. Lots of foxes aroumd, badgers, martins, wolfs and bears.

Really sorry about the chickens. They didn’t need to die, but alas, it’s the way of life. By the way, if you do end up killing the fox, it won’t really help because all that will happen is two or three younger foxes will move in and take their spot. Once again, really sorry about the chickens.
