- Pig Hunting with Bolt Action rifles chambered in 308 and 223. Shooting Subsonic and Supersonic rounds in both calibres. This is Part 2 that you've all been asking for. Out on the wheat stubble this trip. Feral pig numbers have exploded in the area recently due to an abundance of feed and water. As a result, farmers are suffering significant crop damage and losses. I received an invite to head up and lend a hand, which I eagerly accepted. With the pigs becoming quite vehicle shy recently, the most effective method was to conduct all of the shooting on foot. Stalking in on mobs of pigs under the cover of darkness using thermal detection equipment and rifle scopes proved to be incredibly effective. I managed to cull 107 pigs over the three nights which made the farmers very happy. Finished off with a nice 97kg Boar. Can't wait to get back up there and do it all again. Big thanks to Den for his gracious hospitality. It was a hunting trip I'll never forget.
Them subsonic rounds are perfect for pigs, all that practice on range has paid off, well done 107 pigs that’s done the land owner a huge favour,
Thanks mate.
Great when a plan comes together. 👌
I've been watching a handful of these pig videos from the US and Australia and I have to say your marksmanship is way up there. What a pleasure to watch you shoot. Thanks.
Appreciate the kind words mate, thankyou 👍
Marksmanship is a beautiful thing. So often, you see the pigs and foxes mangled by poor shots. Respect!
Much appreciated mate. 👌
Exploding piglets - how satisfying! I might have to go and lie down to regroup. Heavens, what a show... 107 of the kunce!
Thanks mate, wasn't quite sure how that would go down. Some will love it. Others not so much. 🤷♂️
The thermal scope with the barrel heating up was cool!!
Makes it hard to see past on base magnification with the hot halo at the bottom of the screen unfortunately 😕
But does look pretty cool in thermal photos.
Those subsonics were shockingly effective!
No recoil, quiet and and accurate. 👌
Exceptional marksmanship.
Very impressed by the .308 subsonics.
Thanks mate.
They are fantastic in the right situation 👌
Great work Rod! Really love how you can just pick them off with the 308 subsonics without setting the whole mob off.
Super effective when there's a bit of cover noise like wind or livestock nearby
Rob how much below max recommended charge do you use on your sub-Sonics ? Is it 50% or more or less ?
I run a completely different powder mate. TrailBoss is a bulky powder specifically designed to fill the case up more to avoid double detonation.
@@RJMHuntingAustralia interesting thanks for your reply.
I’ve never tried to reload for Sub sonic velocities. It’s a great solution for the night shooting
Perfect in certain circumstances where stealth is imperative
First comment nananananana 💥
Smick shooting mate 👌
Thanks mate.
First comment. Haha
Ur a nutter. 🤣
Everyone seems to be proud to be the first comment these days lol 😆
Great shooting! I'm convinced 308 is the most effective easily obtainable caliber for wild hogs. Those hits with 223 were insane. Our eradicators are having to hit 3 and 4 times with smaller calibers to bring down bigger hogs. That was impressive.
Thanks mate. Lot's of practice. Shot placement is obviously critical. Much prefer my 223. The 308 is more effective.
Nothing wrong with bigger calibers for hogs. The combination of very dense musculature, heavy bones and thick hides make big pigs a tough animal. Combine that with being just plain mean bastards, a bit more than .223 makes a lot of sense. Texas hog hunters have really taken a liking to 6.8 SPC. It still fits in AR15 rifles and offers a serious step up in terminal performance. Hard to argure with the .308 though. Does just about everything really well.
@@DriveCarToBar 6.8SPC is awesome!! Many of the guys I know use 7.62x39 because you still have 30 cal and the ammo is/was the most affordable. Only downside: it lacks the effective range of 5.56, 6.8SPC and 308.
you hit a pig with a car you can write that car off, very dense critters indeedy@@DriveCarToBar
You’re lucky that KFC is still edible in your country. It’s completely gone to crap in my part of the US. I’m not even sure it’s real chicken anymore?
Fantastic shooting brother. My dad started me on a single shot shotgun and .22 rifle back in the late 60’s. By the time I graduated to pump shotguns and bolt rifles I had learned to make every shot count. Most game was taken with a single shot and no ammo was wasted.
Waterfowl hunting was so exciting when 3 shells equaled 3 birds. In all the years of big game or varmint hunting I never needed more than a single round to bring down my target.
My dad was wise to start me out with single shot guns. Trap and skeet weren’t much of a challenge with the one-shot one-target mentality.
You exemplify that professional attitude in each shot taken. Well done. I’m an old man now unable to get out of this chair. So I really enjoy your videos. It takes me back to better times.
Your dad definitely started you off correctly. I'm not into the whole spray and pray style of shooting.
It's important to be ethical even with pests. I didn't really take it up until we moved out of the city in my late 20's.
I absolutely love it though and have worked hard to refine my skill set.
It really pleases me to get comments of appreciation like this one Jeff.
Thankyou.
Take care of yourself mate and I'm very glad you enjoy my videos. 👌👊
Have I seen this video before? Ok I watch it till the end to be sure😂!
👌
Great marksmanship. Shows how a semi-automatic isn't necessary to cull large numbers of feral hogs. What matters is making each shot count.
Absolutely.
Staying on target between shots would be easier with a semi though. 👊
@@RJMHuntingAustralia Some folks in the US claim that semi-autos are essential to this kind of task, but you're proving that what matters is getting each bullet to hit the target rather than sending a lot of them downrange. The places where I help cull feral hogs have lots of limits on shooting for safety reasons. So we rely on a variety of ways to capture them, including snares, box traps, corral traps and tree stands.
A few here and there. But when done every day, it adds up through the year. And that translates into a lot of pork chops and ribs!
Spot on mate. Making every shot count is a priority especially with a bolt action and 10 round magazines.
I had no idea you guys had any shooting restrictions on shooting hogs. 😮
Your a absolute sniper love watching cheers
Thanks for supporting my channel mate. Much appreciated 👊
Top hunting vid mate! Loved seeing the 223 in action at the end my favourite calibre affordable and lethal. Cheers!
Totally agree. My 223 is my go to for 90% of the shooting I do. Incredibly versatile calibre. 👌
Rod, you do better with a bolt-action than many of the Texas boar hunters do with semi-automatics. Thanks for the video. Jon
Haha, thanks mate. Lot's of practice. I would love the opportunity to use an AR10 though.
One day 🤞
yes seen those ole rednecks emptying bucket loads of ammo, stalking works best
Well given bolt actions are usually more accurate than semi autos then yes, you're right
Total awesomeness!!! Can’t thermal hunt here in Canada sadly but our pig population is growing fast and to be able to control them things will have to change!
Thanks.
Shame u can't thermal hunt over there. It's a game changer. Fingers crossed regulations change for you guys 🤞
well Mate you have pretty good gun regs, you'd not wanna be like those dumb buggers across you southern borders eh!!
Ah, takes me back to the good old days, thanks.
My pleasure mate 👍
Going on a bit of a catch up of your older videos. I am really enjoying them. Great job on the pigs. Cheers from Texas.
seems to be several from Texas on here
@@andrewwatts5625 We have a lot of them here in Texas, and they do a LOT of damage.
Unreal. Excellent marksmanship 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks mate 👊
Great shooting !
Love watching professional's take down all these mongrel pigs.
Great fun and very helpful to our struggling hard working farmer's.
Cheers from Penrith .

Cheers mate 👍
So so good! Thanks again old rooter 👌🏼
Cheers mate.
Hey, what's with this Old crap. 🤣
@@RJMHuntingAustralia hahaha I guess you’re only as old as the women you feel 😀
3:52 "Hey fatty". Lights out. Hilarious!
Just couldn't help myself 🤦♂️
The piglet scene was the reason I did just subscribe
Thanks mate. Wasn't quite sure how that part would be received by some viewers 🤔
Love your work and comentre was refreshing my first Aussie accent I loved it
Haha.
Thanks very much mate. 👊
Keep up with the great 👌 content.
Will do mate 👍
@@RJMHuntingAustralia I'm New to this content but I thoroughly enjoy it.
Excellent 💪
Awesome Rod! Yours and Nathan's videos have got me into shooting. Just got my first rifle 17hmr. Definitely getting a night scope for the foxes down my way in Vic!
Great first calibre Cam.
Love shooting my 17. 👌
The last one looked like it was a nice Texas heart shot to finish. Great shooting as usual Rod.
Shot placement was a bit off with that one on the run. Using the 223 so gave her a couple more to seal the deal as quickly as possible. Feral or not I don't like to see anything suffer. 👊
E bikes are the ticket to silent, fast approaches
Not everyone has an ebike mate
Wow! What a great job you are doing. Masterful.
Thanks Ron
Cheers from a new subscriber in S.Louisiana, USA, mate. I'm a couch-shooter right now, but I'm moving to the country in a little while where there's "feral problems", so I hope some of your stealth & sniping skills rub off on me. When you get tons of compliments from Texan shooters (my neighbours) you KNOW you're doing something great. Keep the great videos coming Sir Rodney.
Much appreciated Brian.
Good luck with the move mate.
👊💪
Gidday mate! The perfect thing to say before pulling the trigger.
Haha. I think so 😉
That’s some beautiful country you got. Hope I can find myself down there some day!
Yes mate. Love living in Australia 🇦🇺 👌
Awesome shooting! Like how you finish before moving on 👌 and still drop running pigs!
Thanks mate. I think it's imperative to be as ethical as possible whether is be hunting or pest control. 👊
Excellent work mate love the videos
Thanks Simon 👌
One way to combat the wind noise it to put a sock over the microphone. A regular sock off your foot or use one of the spares where the dryer ate the other one.....LOL.....we can still hear you through the weave and it disrupts the wind blowing over the mic.
You created some good carnage on those pigs. Well done Rod.
Thanks Doug.
I love carnage. 👌
Piglets hit by an RPG,now that was over kill ! Stiil as you said, they've all got to go.
Absolutely. Big or small they are all ferals.
what a great advertisement for suppressors and subsonic ammo. well done :)
Thanks mate. Very effective in the right situation
Now if only we could convince the pollies and cops of the benefits..
If only 😪
Suppressors would be great for use around edges of towns chasing the increased fox activity.... I know they have here, coming into peoples yards taking their chooks.
Exactly what I specialise in mate 👌
Uppa the 308 is the way to go love the vids mate👍🏻
Thanks champion 👊
Part 2 really good mate. Great shooting. Love the subsonics 👍
Thanks mate. The subs are my favourite too. 👌
Another round of top shots. Cheers
Thanks mate 👍
Been watching a few of these videos from the US and Australia. I get taking out the foxes, coyotes, and the feral cats to protect livestock, but what do the feral pigs do that would cause them to be hunted? Are they destroying crops or something? Also, I thought guns were outlawed in Australia? Which, I don't know why you all let that happen! BTW, those night scopes are pretty bad ass!
Excellent shooting mate, well done.
Geoff.
Much appreciated Geoff 👌
Bloody great work mate! Love the videos, especially when I can’t get out in the big wide country for a shot!
Thanks mate. Watching it is the next best thing to doing it yeah. 👌
those rounds are abosolutely devastating
Absolutely 👌
Nice work with the shootin irons...Hello from West Virginia USA
Thanks mate. G'day from Australia 🇦🇺 👌
Greate shooting and love the subsonics Rod.
Thanks mate. Me too. They're pretty cool 👌
It's tempting to say "you lucky bastard" and ignore all the hard yards you put in to get the trust of the landowner.
However, you lucky bastard! Great shooting!
Thanks mate. 👊
cracking shooting as always mate, love it 👌🏼
Cheers Ben. Much appreciated mate
Awesome Rodney great shooting mate imagine what you could do with a semi auto keep up the good work and can’t wait for more
Cheers Matty.
Semi auto would be the ultimate especially in 308. Maybe one day mate. Depends what happens with the regs in NSW
Good stuff mate. i know smashing the pigs is your passion. Nice work with the 223 Sub rounds. will have to give them a go.
The 223 subs are ridiculous quiet. Surprised at just how effective they were on that boar. Usually run them on foxes out to about 100m. Super fun though. 👊
Great shooting Rod. Ridding the property of the pigs can only be an improvement.
Absolutely.
Doubt we'll ever get rid of them. Keeping the numbers in check is a good start though
@@RJMHuntingAustralia most definitely. Wiping out the adults is a good start. Especially that 97kg boar.
Love your vids. I came here via Nathan's RUclips channel. Both great presenters but you're definitely a better shooter just quietly haha
Pmsl. Dunno about that. Thanks for coming over. Appreciate the support mate. 👌
Excellent shooting, 308 subsonic is the way to go, don't tell Nathan 😎
Nathan who??? 🤣
Do you mean, Nathan from Edge of the Outback?
Yes. He means Nathan @ Edge of the Outback
@@RJMHuntingAustralia I just checked Nathan's last video and who do you think I saw? I am now subscribed to you both. Keep up the great work.
Thanks champion 👌
Awesome job, mate. Very jealous. Those 308subs do an amazing job. Almost no reaction from even nearby pigs. Great to see.
Thanks Andrew.
Huge advantage when there is a bit of wind around. They impact is pretty loud and scares everything off sometimes.
The g'day gag is awesome. Those subsonic loads really do the job, well worth the sacrifice of range to get the stealth advantage. Those hogs have no idea as their mates tip over one by one.
Thanks mate.
Combined with thermal they are lethal. 👌
Great video. Like watching the other pigs stay around using subs. I have seen this before without being silenced.
Cheers mate.
The subs work well most of the time. 👍
Brilliant Rod. Get into those Porkers!!
Haha. Thanks mate 👍
Another awesome video mate. Love the subsonic shots. Would be so handy to be able to use a suppressor.
Thanks mate. It certainly is. 👌
Amazing shooting!! Wow.....the 308 made a mess of those piglets!!
Yeah, might have been a tad over gunned.
Instant and effective though 🤦♂️
Rod,
Left a message for Hollwood last week 😊. I know where to meet you guys now if Im ever up North......... the local KFC. Thanks again for another great video and the misses keeps wondering what i'm cheering at as i watch you vids. I'm getting the message out to other like minded people so thanks again. David
Thanks champion. It's great to get positive feedback. Much appreciated buddy.
👌
Sir your accuracy is just 👌💯
Thanks mate.
Plenty of practice 👊
That was some nice shooting mate those subs with the silencer on the 308 are unreal they didn’t even move was a blowout seeing that and some pretty impressive long shots well done mate shit hot take care and stay safe cheers Yogi 🤙🤙
Thanks mate. Was very cool to get it on video.
Love it 👌
Great shooting! What bullet, powder is your 308 subsonic load? And what would be the maximum range for this load? 100 metres?
I run Hornady 190gr Sub-x projectiles pushed with TrailBoss powder.
Have shot it out to 220m + but generally like to run it out to about 100m
Great show again mate. Some fantastic shooting. Love those subsonics too
Me too mate.
Thanks 👊
maaate..loved the vid ,.keep it up mate..stay safe..👍.
Nice shot.lol.
Thanks buddy. 👊
@04:02 "Hey Fatty" 😂 Subscribed!
Thanks champion 👊
love how the heat off the can slowly starts to show, great work Rod
It drove me nuts. Actually looking at a method to limit it. Starts to play havoc with other heat signatures after you pump through 6 or more rounds in quick succession.
Easy fix come hunt with me, maybe 3/4 shots a night if your lucky🤣 it's not a bad problem to have Rod😉
Haha. Yeah I'm not complaining about the target rich environment. However I do want to get the best results possible. 👌🤦♂️
Incredible shooting. I was just sitting here uttering "Oh fuck!" over and over.
Haha. Thanks for that mate. 👊
Man, this is a sniper at work.
Don't know about that but thanks
Damn fellow you freaking awesome shooter with a bolt action. Nice job
Much appreciated mate.
👌
A tonne = 1000kg,
But I got the cricket reference 😉.
Nice shooting 👍
Haha. You the first one that has made a comment that actually got the reference. 😅👊
you're such a good shot, even if they run you can still get them!
Thanks mate.
Been doing it for a while now buddy 👊
Outstanding shooting, ride on brother
Thankyou mate. Always great to get stuck into the pigs. 👌
223 is a good round hit anything in the right spot and they will go down and stay down, good shooting mate.
Absolutely 👌
Thanks mate 👍
Great shooting and a great video. Thanks Rod.
Always a pleasure mate 👍
You remember everything I taught you.

Silly Billy 🤦♂️
I've never seen so many borgs in one place/ night, but it's a nice meat n is Superb to make burgers out of.... But with this amount you manages to get in this video, u can provide food for a small town for s year 😊 nice Job 👍👍👍
Cheers mate 👍
Very impressed by the your shooting of moving targets.
Much appreciated Joel. 👌
Shooting on the run with a rifle. Wow
A skill set requiring plenty of practice 👌
Great vid. Crazy how they didn't know what was happening to them
Thanks mate 👊
Awesome stuff mate, that footage is next level 👏
Thanks buddy. 👊
Bloody great vid ❤
Thanks mate 👍
The exploding piglets was grouse mate. Thoroughly enjoyed that 🤣
Nothing like a little overkill. 👌
Knock off the Boars and the piglets would be the way to go wouldn't it ??
They all need to go unfortunately due to disease and mass damage to crops
@@RJMHuntingAustralia I just meant that they can't breed without a boar and if you knock off the littlies first they cant grow up to breeding age,but Yep I agree knock the rotten lot off!!!🤣🤣☺️☺️
Would putting a bounty on them help or would it just bring out the yobbos.I remember it helped with the foxes and wild dogs a few years ago in Victoria.
Definitely did the job. Fantastic control work
Thanks mate. 👊
They're getting bolder and more aggressive here in south east Texas. I don't like to be on the ground. They used to run away but some have taken to charging towards the sound of the shot. I enjoy the videos. Great shooting
I bet that gets the heart racing Bryan.
Appreciate the support mate 👍
