  • Two great puukkos, one fixed blade and one folder, designed by Pekka Tuominen and made by Spyderco in Taiwan. In my quest for a Tapio Wirkkala puuko I was fortunate to find these two splendid knives. Specs are:
Puukko Fixed Blade: CPM S30V Steel - Micarta Handles
    Blade: 3.33"/ Overall: 7.85"/ Weight: 4.90 oz
Puukko Nilakka: CPL S30V Steel - Micarta Handles
    Blade: 3.51"/ Overall: 8.13"/ Wight: 5 oz

i enjoyed your review and thoughts on both knives...well done........we all know Sal Glesser and company love knives...listening to Sal or Eric talk about Spyderco's roots as a company and there's no doubt about it...but... as a owner of at least 18 Taichung , Taiwan Spydercos, i can only assume the master craftsmen that ply their trade over there love knives just as much if not more......their level of fit and finish within production knives is matched only by companies that charge a lot more money......no matter what the materials are in those Taiwan blades i've never been disapointed

Very well done my friend. I've always been a fan of both knives. I too have an affliction for wood handles but micarta is second best!

From WIKIPEDIA -- "CPM S30V is considered a premium grade knife steel. It is so expensive that it strongly affects the price of the knife, and is largely used in higher-end production and custom knives. Buck Knives calls it 'the absolute best blade steel available'. Joe Talmadge claims it might be the ultimate high-end all-around stainless steel, due to high performance coupled with easier machinability and sharpenability than the other steels in this class."

just an after thought.....if u don't own it already....look at the Spyderco Sage 4...that's the titanium bolster and Arizona iron wood scale model in a back lock configuration....probably my favorite Spyderco, and that is saying ALOT......the knife is SOOOO smooth and solid...nicer action than my fluted titanium Native.....im buying a second one just to save

Say Heah, first of all, I Wish You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I don't have a original Tapio Wirkkala Puukku, but I have a Beautiful copy, it's a Cold Steel, Sisu. It's made out of the San Mai 3 Laminated steel which I find to hold an edge retention as good as my O1's and it's a Beauty, the handles are Linen Micarta with Nickel Silver Bolster and Pommel, with a Beautiful handmade Leather Sheath that I put on a Dangler Extension by Casstrom #3. Yeah, you can tell it's a Tapio Wirkkala Puukku copy, Oh, I also just bought the Spyderco G-10 Puukku. The handle is better than Micarta as far as stenght, it's made out of G-10 which is similar to Micarta but they use Fiberglass instead of Fiber like Canvas or Linen or sorts. Dilly, Dilly.,,.p

Actually I find the bottom portion of the grip too thin and incomfortable, unfortunately. Beautiful knife otherwise, too bad.
