Scandinavian Folders - Excellent Design and Usefulness -- Helle, Enzo, Spyderco, Marttiini and Eka
Просмотров 28 тыс.9 лет назад
I am a huge fan of Scandinavian design. Scandi forniture and utensil designs are simple, elegant and practical. Here is an example of that: I selected six (6) folders of my collection that show a perfect marriage between design and construction. Enjoy! Here are the specs: Helle Dokka (Norway) - 3.75" Triple Laminated Steel Blade, Curly Birch Handle, Nail Opening and Back Lock - $140.00 ( leathe...

    I just ordered a Helle Bleja, similar to the Dokka here in the video! I’m excited to take it on some hikes with me.

    I found out the steel they use is equivalent to AUS8-A STEEL. So I would say it is way over priced.

    Gonna be that " uhm, actually" guy for a second : Finland usually isn't considered to be part of Scandinavia, because their language isn't germanic, and their culture and history are very distinct from that of Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Great video otherwise, keep it up

    Say Heah, first of all, I Wish You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I don't have a original Tapio Wirkkala Puukku, but I have a Beautiful copy, it's a Cold Steel, Sisu. It's made out of the San Mai 3 Laminated steel which I find to hold an edge retention as good as my O1's and it's a Beauty, the handles are Linen Micarta with Nickel Silver Bolster and Pommel, with a Beautiful handmade Leather Sheath that I put on a Dangler Extension by Casstrom #3. Yeah, you can tell it's a Tapio Wirkkala Puukku copy, Oh, I also just bought the Spyderco G-10 Puukku. The handle is better than Micarta as far as stenght, it's made out of G-10 which is similar to Micarta but they use Fiberglass instead of Fiber like Canvas or Linen or sorts. Dilly, Dilly.,,.p

      Scandinavians have completely different history. The speak Germanic languages of same origin, and very mutually understandable. Finnish is unintelligable and unrelated.

      Clips are very American. Carrying knives as weapons is not so European. Hunting and fishing tools. Who wants a clip catching on guts and sinew inside a deer?

    Awesome knives, are the thumb studs removable on the Eka? I love the blade shape, that looks like a very good design for carving and thumb pressing cuts. I've been looking at getting a Cold Steel Finn Wolf they have really good spin locks, I have their Finn Hawk and am VERY pleased with its design. Being a fan of Mora I was reluctant about the Cold Steel but they made a great budget scandi, I promise you if ya get one you will really like it. $20 U.S on Amazon, the grip design is so comfortable and the blade shape is like the LT Wright Lagoon, straight back nice belly and very shallow scandi grind, perfect carving knife. The steel is 4116 stainless German cryo quenched, very forgiving steel and easy to sharpen.

    just an after thought.....if u don't own it already....look at the Spyderco Sage 4...that's the titanium bolster and Arizona iron wood scale model in a back lock configuration....probably my favorite Spyderco, and that is saying ALOT......the knife is SOOOO smooth and solid...nicer action than my fluted titanium Native.....im buying a second one just to save

    i enjoyed your review and thoughts on both knives...well done........we all know Sal Glesser and company love knives...listening to Sal or Eric talk about Spyderco's roots as a company and there's no doubt about it...but... as a owner of at least 18 Taichung , Taiwan Spydercos, i can only assume the master craftsmen that ply their trade over there love knives just as much if not more......their level of fit and finish within production knives is matched only by companies that charge a lot more money......no matter what the materials are in those Taiwan blades i've never been disapointed

    Is there any knife that isn't for penetration or cutting? Do you have any that can be used for drumming?

    • @achblades6342
      @achblades6342 9 лет назад

      roberto araujo Hi, Donnie. Thanks for coming forward. Depending on the objective of the designer, the design of the blade, and the purpose of the user, a knife can be made, or not, for attacking an opponent, cutting a kiwi or cleaning nails. In the above video, I think that it was clear that a Kukhri is better for cutting throats, separating limbs than for thorax penetration as the Applegate dagger -- which commands penetration! The advantage of the Hissatsu is that it is made, and is good, for both -- penetration and cutting. As for drums, unless one wants to cut a hole on a bass drum front skin, I believe that he (or she) should keep them apart -- knives and drums.

    From WIKIPEDIA -- "CPM S30V is considered a premium grade knife steel. It is so expensive that it strongly affects the price of the knife, and is largely used in higher-end production and custom knives. Buck Knives calls it 'the absolute best blade steel available'. Joe Talmadge claims it might be the ultimate high-end all-around stainless steel, due to high performance coupled with easier machinability and sharpenability than the other steels in this class."
