    Dave- another great review. Thanks for sharing. I wonder if you might do a review on your technique using the fero rod? Many people, especially new comers have a learning curve when starting out. You always make it look simple and easy. I have seen you use many different striking methods from showering to gently scraping. I think many of your subs and viewers might benefit from the way you explain things so simply and accurately in your presentations. I know I, for one, would be appreciative of a fero rod tutorial. Thanks Deav. Keep up the great work.

      The Spyderco Puukko is incredible. Ive never seen a blade bite into wood like it does. I have tons of knives but that grind they did it just wants to cut everything. Solid handle and blade it feels indestructible. The gold with brown handle and the polish on the steel is gorgeous as well. My overall impression is that it is a workhorse that will do tasks amazing and also a very good for self defense and food prep. Just a great blade. I havent used the ferro rod yet. Thanks, Jonathan

    Say Heah Dave. Yeah I have a Puuko Style Knife. Mine is a Rod Garcia Skookum Bush Tool in 3V, It's one of my Fav. Carver's. When we talked he listened. Mine is right on the 4" but depend's how you measure it I get 4"+. But the important thing I mentioned a continueing curve, I told him I think curves carve great. My Skookum Bush Tool came out with a nice continueing curve and it's a great Carver, It cane out spot on. I just wish it didn't take as long. But I will be getting another ine. I can't imagine being without my Skookum Bush Tool. I generally use mine as a neck knife teaming it up with a larger knife. I like teaming it with my Fox Parang Bushcraft Knife when I'm not teaming my Fox Parang with my C. S. Master Hunter in 3V. But I can also just add my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet or my Warbeast Tomahawk and my Victorinox Delmont Collection Rangergrip 78 as a back-up, plus saw ofcource . I could use this set on hikes or on scouts it all depend's if I want to do a overnighter or not. But with the shirt daylight this time of year, I still concider it being prepared. Oh by the way, that Spyderco Puuko is Sweet.,,.

    • @HighCarbonSteelLove
      @HighCarbonSteelLove  7 лет назад

      Thank you for the kind words, Jason! The scandi grind on this knife is excellent for carving and feather sticks, as it really wants to bite into the wood. The one downside is that this high of a scandi grid tends to be a brittle edge. -Dave

    Say Heah Dave, I called Spyderco. They told me it's a Hidden Tapper Tang, about 2/3 tang, no it doesn't go full, but it seems it's strong enough to carve with. I'm using mine as a neck knife. Also the size, I have a Cold Steel SISU (discontinued), it's a copy of a Tapio Wirkkala Puukku. I just got mine and I noticed it's a petite version of the Tapio Wirkkala Puukku. But with suttle differences. I made another Trio, I decided on my Estwing Sportsman with the Leather Handle and my EZ KUT WoW Folding Saw. Yup, my Flexcut Carving Jack and my Gerber Multi Tool. Another Afternoon Delight Set. Dilly Dilly.,,.p

    Wow ! what a friend , that's an awesome knife Dave , I like Spyderco knives though I have a nice collection of their folders I still don't have anybody grit fixed blades , I'm still considering the bushcrafter from Spyderco just haven't committed yet 😝! Dave I wanted to ask you if you've ever used if owned any of the Enzo knives from Finland ? I have 2 if there Trapper models one had curly birch scales and the other has green micarta scales . I can truly say that the Enzo trapper is a fine BC knife mine are both in 0-1 tool steel and have a true scandi grind . Anyway I digress thanks fir the video and take care brother 👍🏻🇺🇸✌🏻️!

    Say Heah Dave, you did a good job reviewing the Puukku. Yup, I also got the Spyderco Puukku, I got it at a great price too, I think their going to be discontinued, but there's some around, Yeah, I think it's going to be a good neck knife. Oh, I posted my (2) Custom Knives I commisioned (my design) William Collins to make. I posted them on my Google Plus. Dilly, Dilly.,,.p

    Say Heah Dave, One more question, Do you think the tang is the hight of the Handle and does it go all the way back to the Pommel, Oh, and is it strong enough to baton. Thanx You in Advance. Dilly Dilly.,,.p

    • @HighCarbonSteelLove
      @HighCarbonSteelLove  6 лет назад

      I think it might be a 3/4 hidden tang? I could be wrong but it works really well! Yes, it batons quite well. The high scandi is an excellent wedge. Thank you for watching! -Dave

    Not sure how smart S30v is with a high scandi grind which is incredibly brittle of a grind.

    Say Heah Dave, I have a question, how do you rate the Spyderco Puukku against the LT Wright Lagom, Thanx You in Advance. Dilly Dilly.,,.p

    • @HighCarbonSteelLove
      @HighCarbonSteelLove  6 лет назад

      The Lagom is my absolute favorite and I rate it higher than this Puukko because of the handle. I am not a big fan of the tear drop handle on the Spyderco. Thank you for watching! -Dave

    Hole is trademark.
    The bottom edge of the handle is way to sharp for me to use this knife in a hammer grip - hurts!

    • @HighCarbonSteelLove
      @HighCarbonSteelLove  7 лет назад

      Thank you for taking the time to watch, Thomas! Yep, Spyderco Trademark hole. The handle is not the most comfortable handle I have ever used but it's not the worst I have ever used, either. A nice, rounded traditional puukko handle would've worked really well! -Dave

    I'm trying to decide between a spyderco puukko and a benchmade 162
    Does anyone have experience with both ?

    • @HighCarbonSteelLove
      @HighCarbonSteelLove  6 лет назад +1

      I own both knives and I personally prefer the Benchmade. I am not a fan of the handle on the Spyderco Puukko, while the handle on the Benchmade 162 is excellent. The 162 is also a more versatile, heavier duty knife. I have a few videos on the Benchmade 162 and here is my most recent - ruclips.net/video/m3kGN5L2NBg/видео.html. They are both excellent knives, however ,the 162 is one of the top knives in my rotation. Thank you for taking the time to stop by and keep me posted on which one you chose! -Dave

      Thank you so much for your reply
      I have since watched all of your videos on them
      Very informative!
      I am almost certain I've made my decision to get to the 162
      However, I'm curious of your thoughts on whether I should consider reprofiling the blade to either a saber grind or Scandinavian?
      I'll be making my purchase before the end of February

  • @thomaslinton1001

    Bottom edge of the handle is way to narrow for comfort.

    • @HighCarbonSteelLove
      @HighCarbonSteelLove  6 лет назад

      Ya know, after using this knife for an extended period of time, I concur, Thomas. While it's an excellent knife, the handle does lack comfort over long term use. Thank you for taking the time to stop by! -Dave

      I have seen pics and read articles about some traditional puukko and traditional Japanese knives with this type of teardrop handle. However, I think there is a reason why you don't see them much nowadays...I wouldn't call this knife grip unbearable, but the handle is definitely different. Thank you for watching! -Dave

      Thomas Linton The tapio hackman puukko knives have the same shaped handles, and they sell for hundreds of dollars used. It may be unusual but it's still been around for a long time.

    Benchmade made the puukoo for 125.00 and it's in 3v. American made. Would slice right thru that Spyderco blade. Probably in the hole it would break. Weak ass Spyderco.
