    when Spyderco first brought this out it had Pekka Touminen's name on it. and you could get a custom made knife from him for the same price. I've seen more than a few reviews of the Helle knives that said the steel was too soft. Kellham knives always get high marks.
    Bonus fact: Finland's biggest national holiday is Next Month, March 16, Saint Urho (err-who) Saint Urho chased the Grasshoppers out of Finland. And while he did shouted
    Heinäsirkka, heinäsirkka, mene täältä hiiteen" "Grasshopper, grasshopper, go to Hell!"

    I'm one of your Finnish subscribers :). A true zero scandi edge really is only for light work. Fine carving, cleaning small to medium game as well as fish, food prep etc. In addition to a "Puukko" a woodsman would carry an axe and/or a "Leuku" for cleaving, chopping etc. One of the characteristics of a puukko is that it is suposed to be very light weight. That Spyderco is a bit of an oddball. Look kinda cool tho.

      I have a Eswing campers axe and a Kukri, that (outside of these ridiculous videos) I use for heavy duty work. When I camp I usually carry a light folding knife and a campers axe. Most of the backpacking and camping I do doesn't involve using wood to start fires. Most parks don't allow fires near me.

      Hello from Finland! It's always funny to hear Americans trying to pronounce Finnish words. Finnish pronounciation is actually very easy (for Finns at least). You just learn what kind of sound every letter makes and then say the word exactly as written. For example the letter "u" sounds the same in every word unlike English "stupid" / "but". To my ears, your pronounciation of puukko sounded like you were trying to say English "pooccou". Puukko is often used in Finnish language to refer to practically any knife shaped cutting tool that is not exclusively for food prep or eating. The word "puukko" most likely comes from the word "puu" which means tree, wood and timber.

    Watching someone use a puukko like this, is why knife manufacturers wind up making overbuilt, thick edged, soft steel blades. If you were the manufacturer, would you want to sell a super thin edged rc 60 knife to someone who you knew would use it like this? There is a tool for people who like to baton, a froe, you could probably open mail with it too which is no less silly than batoning with a puukko. I dig your sense of humor, and that is why I will continue watching these vids.

    A guy I know liked the knife because of the sharpness and it is sharp. Sharpest knife I ever had was an Ahti puukko. Did send it back because the blade was not fit straight in the handle but had an angle and I really hate that. Same with the older Mora's. If the blade fitted straight you were lucky to have one. Nowadays Mora did some improvements. Like that pink Mora. I carry a pink Svord peasant as neck knife and when they ask me why pink there are 2 reasons. You won't see pink in nature so it is easy to find and people won't steal it. Nice vid!!

    You should review the smiths sharpening system, I saw you only have the spyderco sharpening review( which is probably all anyone needs) but I got the smiths system from Lowes for around $30 or less and have got great results from it. I would compare it to a cheap hand held wicked edge but I have never used a 300$ real wicked edge.

      I think it might be nice for something in a month or two. I bought a Stopman strop a few months ago and use it occasionally. I always have meant to do a review on it at some point... but it took me several years to get around to my Sharpmaker demo.

    i´ve read that there´s a big chance to break the tip if you put this knife through harder tasks. some people have experienced that. and yes, real finnish puukkos (like Marttiini Lynx Lumberjack or Marttiini Black Lumberjack Carbon) are much more affordable and meant for rough work. as Moras. great review again, very honest!

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 лет назад +1

      I wouldn't burrow any holes in hard wood with it. I have continued carving on that pine... and it's fine- even raking out grooves with the tip. I'd like to try a real finnish one in the near future. Thanks man!

    I know you normally do more budget knives, but can you maybe do a knife review on one of the holy trinity knives(crk, strader, hinderer). I can't find a single objective review of them online that isn't like an hour long and incredibly repetitive.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 лет назад +1

      I'd like to when my channel gets bigger. Right now I buy all of my nicer knives, with an occasional exception. Not many bigger manufacturers want to provide knives for my small irreverent channel. I'll continue trying to reach out to these guys until I can afford one. So far I've spent up to $180 on a knife- and it's often times hard to justify that because my channel revenue isn't big. Plus I have one or two people who help me out to get some discounts on the nicer knives I buy. These are on my radar, but in the meantime it's stuff I can get for under $200. That's about my knife budget for a month.

    It's pretty, but ya...you can get the regular Mora Companion for around $15 on Prime Now even. The Spyderco would be a nice 'BBQ Knife'. In places where you can't have a BBQ gun I guess. I wouldn't complainnnn if someone gave me that Spyderco, of course. I did an entire weeks worth of meal prep with the Mora Companion, then used it as my EDC for a couple of weeks and it was still getting fairly smooth cuts through paper.

    I got one of these years ago in ironwood for about $80. It is a good whittling knife but the handle feels awkward at times, and the blade is a little short for my liking. It is however extremely sharp, and mine holds it's edge forever with just stropping. Would i buy it again for $55 or $60 bucks? No thanks. Now you're stuck with one too.😉

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro

    Puukko's are from Finland. Mora is from Sweden. Mora is not a Puukko. "All puukko's are knives but not all knives are puukko's". Finland is not part of Scandianavia. It is part of nordic countries and geologial definision is Fennoscandia. The grind in Finnish Puukko's have a differend angle than Swedish "kniv", knife. There are dosens of Puukko models, each region in Finland has it's own typical model. Battoning is not recomended for puukko. Buy a axe instead.

      It’s like when saying a Viking sword made today can’t be Called a Viking sword because it wasn’t made by a Viking or it changes this design cue. Over time styles of knives and the definitions broaden and you can change things. I’m not getting my knickers in a twist. I understand your comment and you have a certain point. But I don’t agree with your narrow definition. You obviously got your knickers in a twist enough- that you decided to tell me I was wrong. Enough people identify a mora with being close enough to a puukko that it fits the bill a lot of places as a “puukko”
      en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puukko
      Fighting your battle with a narrow definition of a knife on a small RUclips channel isn’t changing any minds.

      @@AdvancedKnifeBro i see lots of makers from all around the world that make lovely puukko's. but mora is not a puukko. it doesn't matter how many identify it as one. there are many us Finns who also think that mora is a puukko but they are also wrong, dead give away is the grind. the hight of the grind in swedish and norwegian kniv is max. 1/3 and finnish puukko 2/3 or even more. there is a microbevel when puukko is sharpend, when it gets too "wide" it is ground off flat with grindstone. kniv is ground always flat with bevel. i'm not fighting, i'm informing. sorry if i hurt your feelings.

      You didn’t hurt my feelings. We don’t agree with one another. That’s all. The Jedi mind trick of saying I’m the upset one doesn’t work.

    Love your reviews, but I can't stand Spyderco! They're knives are VERY over-priced, and their customer service is TERRIBLE! I'll never buy another Spyderco.

      This one is a very so-so knife. I like them, but this ain't the one I like!
