- This is a GREAT live Fleetwood Mac/Lindsey performance from 1975!! This is from their AWESOME Largo, MD concert!! This one is called ~ Station Man. Lindsey looks and sounds AWESOME!!
Enjoy!! ~ Jackie (:
Side note: Man, John can really play that bass... he's phenomenal.
If there's one good thing about Fleetwood Mac in the rebuilding era of 1975 it's that at this moment, Christine was more or less The Frontwoman of the band. She absolutely killed it at this show.
I do love me some Christine Perfect!
Rest in peace Christine McVie,
If you saw them way back you would know there was No front vocalist. Yep I’m a Boomer and saw them all…except for the Beatles at Shea😀
Can't believe the critisism of this version....they did a good job and Lindsey did Danny proud on that lead. So be grateful they still payed homage to one of FM's finest talents.
R.I.P. Danny Kirwan
AMEN!! I think they did a phenomenal job here!! And yes,RIP Danny and Peter,,and Bob Welch and Bob Weston and Bob Brunning
Compared to our dear Danny, this bloke has the touch of a jackhammer
He definitely did not have the same chops or technique, but I think the song still warranted being played live. It pissed me off to no end that most of the pre-Buckingham catalog was omitted from live shows after this tour. I feel like when you're in a band with a back catalog, you owe it to that band to honor its history and keep those songs fresh.
So glad they celebrated a Danny and Christine McVie song. But left a lot lacking no one could milk every Sweet Spot out of the guitar like Danny K when he Then Plays On .... soar with the angels brother
The Mac in the Lindsay Stevie era left a lot to be desired in terms of guitar and instrumental heaviness. Station Man was a Christine-Danny shared vocal on Kiln House but there was not only Danny on guitar, but Spencer as well, and to get that layered guitar version on the album, do you know how many overdubs and double tracking there had to be of guitar? Listen to Station Man again and you'll hear at least 3, possibly 4 guitar parts/tracks....multiple leads, and droning rhythm. On this live performance, Christine actually had to play the lead lower string riff between vocals on her keyboard, Lindsay obviously had his hands full. Pretty embarrassing.
@@tonytrabort4939 I don't understand why in the hell Fleetwood ever thought One guitar player, no matter how technically skilled, would be enough to suffice to honor the old material in concert. It always bugged me because not only was Lindsey a total dick about performing the old stuff live, there's no way even his style could make it sound right.
I'm glad that Mike Campbell and Neil Finn are with them now, as much as we all like to pretend that Lindsey Buckingham was the be-all end-all of FM, they have Always needed a second guy on guitar and I'm hoping that not only will their new material showcase them extensively, but that we'll get to hear some of the Peter Green stuff and the Bob Welch stuff live /with/ Stevie still there to lead.
@@k.g.alatore355 I don't know about LB being a dick about performing the old Mac tunes live, but if he did, it would be totally understandable and excusable. One, he couldn't play them right. He doesn't have the right guitar chops/style; never did; and frankly, not everyone could replicate Green or Kirwan's guitar work. Second, he LB brought to Mac a whole different style of song/guitar part/sound, etc., so why dishonor the old Mac by trying to imitate and why not respect who he was as an artist and player and work on doing his compositions well. I not only get that but I respect that. My other reaction is to the 2 dicks they replaced Lindsey with.....neither one is a guitar gunslinger in my mind. Tom Petty.....c'mon, that was one of the most slow motion, redundant, same song hook, over and over and over, and boring guitar work to boot. I have yet to hear anything that confuses me with Danny Kirwan or Peter Green or Jeremy Spencer when these dudes pick up a guitar.....Mac is just a nostalgia act with Stevie twirling the skirts and wearing the stilettos.....LOL. They are a joke. Only person in that band recent who had any talent was Lindsey....and second, Christine, perhaps. The others are just along for the financial ride.....
@@davidwinn721 I can only assume they had little material to work with - with only one album from this lineup, but they should have jammed or did some other covers of another band/bands. They did no service to any of Kirwan or Welch's songs.
At least Welch played his ass off when he was the only guitarist. This stuff makes me cringe. 😬🥺
@@tedstone5934 Didn't Future Games get published from this lineup? That title track ..... I really enjoyed, but Welch kind of took over for a bit with Sentimental Lady and a few of those ballad, soft songs as I recall. The whole period is now a distant memory but the band was in decline at this stage.
Lacks the soul and the magic of the original version with Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer.
Underrated album
I don't hear no 'engines screamin' in this version. Studio cut still rocks.
Thanks for posting! Not only is this my favorite Fleetwood Mac song, it is one of my all time favorites from ANY band. It's nice to hear the Nicks/Buckingham iteration of FM play this great tune - but if one's familiar with Kiln House you know Station Man screams for two guitars and a more soulful and bluesy presentation.
Agree. Just saw a list of Fleetwood Mac's top 50 songs by IO believe Rolling Stone and somehow it wasn't there!
Agreed.
This was done long before nicks or Buckingham..
I felt they honored Danny Kirwan and the old FM by covering this. It's not the same, but it's an sincere homage. And Mick is working it!
PS #1: On Kiln House, Danny Kirwin and Jeremy Spencer generate amazing emotional tension and release with a much more satisfying bluesy vibe that grows organically into moments of almost climactic rock flourishes.
Rich Robinson covers Station Man on his solo album "Through A Crooked Sun" and while it is damn good, it seems to me that his more straight forward rock take on the song loses too much of the bluesy groove and tension captured on the original FM recording.
Something about seeing bands go back to where they first started just makes me really happy
Bought the album for the cover art back in the 70’s. Stayed for the outstanding tunes.
Another version of the original Fleetwood Mac song Station Man I never saw before. I love this!
I found out earlier today that the Grateful Dead's "Passenger" was a take-off on this song, so I had to see what inspired them. This is the third YT video I've seen of it; such a great old song that I'd never heard of before!
Memories memories. When I first started listening to F.M. 51 yrs ago. Hadn’t heard this in so many yrs. then one day recently it came to mind out of nowhere. I was on 14 then , and 65 now. Wow. Had to hear this again. It’s funny songs take us back to that time in our life. To when I had not a care in the world, not even a thought about tomorrow, not a worry in the world or about my future yet. As the song goes by Moody Blues, “Isn’t Life Strange a turn of the Page”
Hello glenda! you are from which country?
Alaska. But was living in Wash. state for yrs.
@@tendanfer8466 I live in Sitka, Alaska. Had lived in Seattle as well. Town life is nice and peaceful. Only 2 streetlights, 5-10 min to get anywhere. Haaa.
LOVE THIS!!! in used record store i found (bootlegged cassette) of fm in 75 in passaic & lindsey opens w/this version of this song...he also does outstanding on i'm so afraid(my fave song!), world turning, don't let me down again, & hypnotized...he is soo amazing!!! u can tell the person who recorded it was not a fan bcuz they wrote the wrong titles of the songs. its was AWESOME 2 see this video...thank u!
RIP Christine McVie
king biscuit flour hour!!! what an amazing piece of video!
Well - Stevie and Lindsey had just joined the group here...so they didn't have a lot of their own material yet :) And of course, Fleetwood Mac had fans to please that were with them before B & N joined :)
i like it more fast and rock n roll i like what lindsey did but like always nothing beats the original
The live versions with Danny were played quite fast as well.
Love this song
I love Christine
Great to see Fleetwood Mac do "Station Man" with Lindsey and Stevie. Just think, this was done before Rumours was written and recorded which is why they added old songs to the mix.
This concert was a couple months before the white album came out. If you listen to Rhiannon it has different lyrics. Rhiannon & Say you love me are the only songs they played from the then up coming first album (1975). All the rest were older songs
PS# 3: I'd forgotten how amazingly gorgeous Stevie Nicks was!
Back in the day, she was cute and harmless. Eventually, she caught the groove and contributed greatly to the band's success.
Used to listen to FM and Kiln House near the old Ski jump, Eau Claire, WI. Coincidentally , I am retired UPRR.
3:09 'nuff said.
I see it coming...
I'll never get over Stevie Nicks apparently.
Misses the punch of the original studio version. Not dissing Lindsey Buckingham here but Danny Kirwan's vibrato cannot be matched.
Their young and getting it done...Cool
The original had its own embodiment.. this doesn’t reach there.
Thanks so much!! I greatly appreciate your kind words!! I will be attending their upcoming Pittsburgh show and I have great seats for a change!! I can't wait!! (:
wolfsblood07 ~ Thanks a bunch for your comment!! Glad that you enjoyed this. (:
Thanks a bunch!! I like this song too, especially how Lindsey does it!! (:
Peter Green had more talent in one foot than Lindsey had in his whole body.
I enjoy seeing the new blood doing the older songs. Really cool transition time in '75.
The inspiration for the "passenger" by the Grateful Dead
Concert from Sunday October 5, 1975.
Pure magic on that stage
Fell in Love During the Early Days of WW3
true musicians.
I just can’t believe Christine McVie is no longer living here!
😱😭💔🙏🏻🤬🤬🤬
I know right. It seems surreal😢
Not the same without danny
True
he should do Bare Tree's&kilnhouse. it would be a hoot to hear his Danny K (if you will).
Liitle Feat opened.......
fltwdmclvr ~ I agree. Thanks a bunch for commenting!! (:
Oh hell no. Someone gave Mick some blow; he forgot the beat of the original Station Man. Nothing like the Kiln House original song. This train speeds by.....
Better run to catch it.
I've been a fan of FM since their beginning in the 60s. As long as Mick and John are still alive, the band has continuity. I was so sad that Peter Green passed away; he was just a few days younger than me. Station Man was always played at their shows and when they came to town (L.A.), I was always in the audience cheering the band on.
I've only heard one band, The Moody Blues, sound exactly, note for note, like their songs on their album. It's too bad that some don't like it when the band improvises and jams, not me though! I haven't seen or heard the "new" version of FM with the 2 new guitar players. Maybe they can do better than Lindsey. I doubt it, though.
2018 tour sounded like a bad tribute band.
stevie smiling at john
4:40
And John smiling at Chris at 541.. so cute.
@@fuzzydog1100 eran aun esposos?
@@oamdlc si, en realidad estuvieron casados hasta 1978. pero cuando divorciaron se mantuvieron muy unidos, el estuvo con ella cuando ella murio en 2022.
@@fuzzydog1100 Gracias por el dato, saludos desde Peru
Just not the same without Danny :(
True, but good to see them doing it after that era.
Nah - just as good. The harmonies are kick ass!
Would swear I heard aviolin coming in and out and in again between 3:00 and 4:00
Lindsey mindig jó.
Doesn't live up to Danny Kirwans vocal, otherwise it's pretty good.To come to think of it Christine Perfect,Peter Green and Danny Kirwan are three of my all time favourite singers.
The Queen of rock and roll, Stevie Nicks
Oh, Please! Meh.
People gave Lindsey and Stevie shit for covering the old Mac, but they sound killer.
That hat was bought at a “Florida Gift Shop”
Perhaps. And yet he looks smokin hot in it 😂 John always had a thing for hats and caps.
You're VERY welcome. Glad that you enjoyed it. (:
He's no Danny Kirwan.
True!!!
Song needs more than one guitar, but Buckingham does a good job.
I agree with the second guitar, Lindsey does great, and Stevie as well - especially on their first tour with FM.
Love this song, particularly Mick's drumming. However, I do miss Kirwan's vocal and the chugga-chugga guitar work that was the perfect counterpoint to Mick's drumming on the original...
they sound Like an average pub band on this. Strange because they are a great band
no danny it's not quite the same
I wonder if Stevie realizes no one can hear the tambourine if she doesn't put it up to the mic 😂
Lindsay has a good voice= lilt; like Stevie ,had,; had too
I think Lindsey is a fantastic musician and has come a long...... way but this doesnt even come close to Danny and Jeremys version. The engines screaming was Danny Kirwin!
LISTEN BUCKINGHAM COULD DO THE JOB OF 3 GUITARIST...
Lindsey looks like a shaggy Peter Green.
they're doing it fast ... very fast blowlingly so
maybe it's a Japanese Bullet Train
A shadow of the original ... Great song but this performance is pedestrian at best.
They needed material...
Jeremy spencer e danny kirwan.
Kiln house.
I prefer Lindsey's version of this song much better, but that's just my opinion. (:
I don't agree with that, but that's just my opinion. (:
More like a tonka toy train; it's so light with no real downbeat of heavy, older metal train rhythmically chuggin by. That's where Mick misses it. ..Or maybe he was in a hurry to get through a great song turned bad.
The mix is weird on this one. I’ve heard the same show on vinyl and cassette years ago and Lindsey’s guitar is way up front and center. And it’s incredibly powerful. This mix has Stevie’s vocals up front and it really compromises the energy.
Do you have a download available for the show? I would love to hear that version
I like this version more than the original lol it’s a shame after A while they totally ignored all of the pre 1975 material with the exception of the song Oh Well
do e first then g chord d happy with drew need tower to find trent keebag girl
Danny Kirwans driving guitar- vocals missing- but Lindsey-Mick workmanlike....Christine Mcvie on piano? awful!
Christine McVie sings and plays on the original but not as a full band member yet. But you can hear her fender rhodes and harmony voice pretty clearly.
No Danny, no thanks
This is not a good version of this song. Too fast. Not chuggy enough
Dosent build emotion
Maybe they were all high
John is coked up.
Yeah the nostril rub is a clue . But they were probably all a little coked up lol
Not the original,: Peter Green guitar and vocals. Excellent as it is here . Best, for the performance.
Peter Green was not the singer nor was he the lead guitarist ever on this song! This is Danny Kirwans song from the Kiln Lp! PG had already left the band before the original came out! But at NY rate my brother, PG was a great frontman and guitarist! Peace!
@@Buddy-cc8zg Wow! I did not know that. PG and DK seemed capable of sounding similar to me, take Fighting for Madge jam on Then Play On - for example. I find it hard to tell who's doing what. Such an excellent combo.
Original Pop sellouts
@biglindseyfan77
As do I. I think every song he "covered" (for lack of a better term) back then was better than the originals. Whether it be Green's, Welch's or Kirwan's. His voice is obviously better and he can match anyone on the guitar.
Just farted.
You're welcome. Glad that you enjoyed it. (:
