I love that early Marshall JTM-45/ Plexi tone. Dynamic, smooth power amp overdrive able to get that balanced amazing drive that has what I would call a slight ‘honk’ to it. (Think Angus young/Paul Kossof) please comment a correction to my use of term honk for this if there is a better/widely accepted term used to describe this character, it really has an exciting yet smooth sizzle but not Fizz like a JCM800 and definitely not whatever the hell you want to call the sound/fu=¥^ng NOISE that this thing is putting out-if someone knows what I’m talking about! I wish there was even a lunchbox size unit that has that Plexi quality done well if there is one thankyou! In 20 years of playing I’ve never had the style amps to do it but I can’t go any longer!… Ive never actually owned a Marshall or clone of one BUT I know that it doesn’t sound like this! I know by the thumbnails of the other vids for this amp that it is supposed to and apparently ‘usually they do quite well it is said’ but this is the first one I clicked on 🎉. DUDE what are you doing!?!?!? Not sure whether it is not working properly, speaker issues, recording process issues, or perhaps the way you have the pickup selector on your Les Paul set to middle, or you have dialled in to much treble…. Wait did you say there’s a RAT pedal running into it?? People don’t want to hear that if they want this amp in particular. Sorry mate but, I mean you even sat in the room with it playing whilst producing THAT. I assume you must have had to watch at least a portion of the video for editing purposes! We all dial or set things stupidly or use equipment that turns out to not be applicable with another piece of equipment but we just realise and change it to get a workable sound. We just know that we don’t don’t put it on our RUclips channel sounding like this! Dude!?!?!? Hahaha know that I say this in jest so we can all just have a laugh about it and not risk damaging or even destroying a RUclips channel (the only thing about this that should be destroyed is the combination there that made that rig sound like that. Or Piss off the guys from Marshall or Gibson Co. lol ❤😅😂. I’ve seen your videos before and they are always really good the ones I’ve seen so I’m sure it’ll be okay man. You do a good channel. I want it to stay around so I’m just suggesting, sorry mate 😅
Man. I had this amp for 3 weeks and I REALLY tried to love it but I just wasn’t able to dial it in to a point where I was very happy with it. Ultimately, I returned it to Sweetwater. I don’t blame other for really liking it though… I do think it NEEDS an OD!
Something dark and fuzzy about these tones. My thoughts is it's either those epiphone humbuckers - which I have experience with, I find I need an 18" patch cord from guitar into a buffered pedal to get some highs back into the tone that seems to be really missing. Which isn't practical to do, unless you attach a small buffer pedal to your guitar strap. Could also be those 70/80 speakers. I find with some circuits they are ear piercing ice picks - and with other circuits they sound dark and muffled. That 2x12 cabinet needs two greenbacks.
Maybe it's the mics he's using? But my thoughts exactly that isn't good tone at all, muddy and super fuzzy/no headroom try something else tones. Always remember that everything you buy is grift at some level, so low priced speakers are a warning sign. Where are the cabs made, etc. Lots of questions.
@@madinjun it's just any pedal that has a buffer circuit in the input. lots of pedals have buffers. They're in circuit even when the pedal is in bypass mode. True bypass pedals have no buffer - or I should say no buffer when it's in bypass.
Well…I’m sure how to say this…not everyone has the “ear” for how to dial in a classic guitar tone, or the feel to coax it out of their instrument. I suspect that’s the case here. That being said, the Origin 20 is not at all like a classic Plexi. I owned a 100 watt 1968 Super Lead, and it’s a totally different animal. I found that the Origin 20’s controls don’t interact the way most amps do, hence the numerous video posted by guys who figured out its quirks. This demo shows that if you approach the amp in a traditional manner, what you end up with is a whole lot of mud-sorry. I can attest from personal experience that a great tone can be coaxed out of this amp. Also, if you choose to use delays and reverb in the effects loop, and want a lot of gain, you need to keep the master volume around 3 or 4. Otherwise, your repeats won’t have any distortion. I found this out the hard way. Regarding my comments about not having the knack to come up with a great tone, it took me a long time to solve that puzzle. I can’t stand to listen to live recordings from my early days of fumbling around. Just awful. In the end, a friend who was a veteran guitarist showed me his formula-a guitar plugged straight into the amp, crank it, then control everything with the guitar’s volume control. With a few of my own wrinkles, I follow that formula to this day. If you’re considering buying an Origin 20, try one out first. But watch the demo videos I mentioned earlier before doing so. Good hunting.
Should have demo’d this amp using more than just a Gibson product lol … biggest Marshall artist ever to play them used a Stratocaster primarily, might have been good to use a Fender or single coil guitar as well and showcased more than just crappy overdriven tones. Marshall amps are capable of so much more than Gibson style overdrive tones. 🤷🏻
Wow , how did this guy get such a bad sound out of this amp , mine sounds fantastic . Either there’s something drastically wrong with the amp or the recording . Mind you the crap playing doesn’t help much .
I order my Origin 50 head from L&M before it was available. The extra watts does put it dead close to a JMP50 Plexi. Trust me skip the clever the built in volume cuts. Get an attenuator. Keep the master on 8. Skip the boost!!! Then do not go over nuts with the gain. Just up to a Crunch. If you need more use a pedal. The reliability and even tubes hold up even with a lot of gigs. I had a JMP50 when they were new, lol ...I am 77.
Yikes. Sounds like the speaker is blown. Everything is fuzzy and the distortion is painful to listen to. Sounds like the cheap solid state amps from 30 years ago.
I'm surprised I don't like how this sounds. I have a JCM800 but if anything I skew towards JTM45/Plexi in terms of the sound I like. I had considered just trading it in to get one of these Origin line but yeah this is way too fuzzy / reminds me of the beat up fender hot rod I had as my first big amp. The JCM goes through the MX212R cab with the stock Celestion Seventy 80s and I feel like the range of classic sounds without any pedals is close enough that its like I'd lose something getting rid of it after hearing this, which is surprising to me (and people really don't like those speakers compared to GBs and CBs). I really like other Plexi versions / JTM45 / JTM studios ive seen. Probably just wait and get a full size reissue at some point. But yeah to each their own / no shade, and thanks for making the vid.
It's a great affordable amp. This demo was by far the worst I've ever heard for this amp. I have a hard time getting a bad tone out of it, but they managed to make a full video of bad tones. IDK why. It's a good sounding amp.

The amp is amazing. It's the speakers he's using. Trust me it sounds like a jtm, but more thin, more clean. Still sounds amazing though. You need good speakers like greenbacks. I also own the studio jtm
I was in a guitar store, saw a 20w origin combo, plugged in an SG '61 custom shop, and it was amazing when the gain was dialed in. I entered up ordering the 20w head, it will go through a 1x12 UK Greenback, which i pretty much use for all my small heads. Looking for award to playing mine

This is your best video yet. That thing is a monster! I think I am going to have to add one to my arsenal.
It’s 2 preamp tubes, the other tube is for fx loop
The Origin was never meant to be a Plexi Einstein!
Cool demo. I’ve got the combo 20. I’ve found the origin to be a really nice tube amp esp at that price. It has cool features and takes pedals well.

It's because of the middle humbucking position instead of bridge. Not everyone's favourite.
What is a buffered pedal? Never heard of that before.

The speakers
So the origin is not based on the plexi 59, but based on the jtm. Which many get wrong. Also sounds amazing through greenbacks
Can you use the DI with out having speakers connected or reactive load box?
Yes you can. The amp has a dummy load.

Whats the best? The DSl or the Origen?
I like the origin a lot more
Qualitywise amprepair dudes and similar say that DSL is better made.
Origin
Bump for the algorithm. Keep em coming. Would love to see you compare the YCV4050 with comparable fender and marshall amps.
Why you did that demo in the middle position all the time? Thats just wrong.
I recognize this jam.
Worst tones I ever heard. You are killing sales for epiphone and Marshall. Quit, please.
What a terrible tone. You took a great low-to-midrange gain amp and tried to play it like a 5150.

Woofy....not a good sales pitch there...the crapiest i've ever experienced that amp on YT
He ruined the tone by using middle humbucking position. And way too much trebble on the trebble knob for this amp too
Not a good sound here.
Sound quality is awful.
Great amp but the tones you are showcasing are really bad. cut me in and i'll sell your amps for you
Intro sounded really bad indeed. Worse than a late 90s/early 2000s modeling amp
Worse valve amp Marshall ever made, and it's not even close.
This video sucks… Origin sounds nothing close to this shit
Why?
It's not. The origin sounds amazing. It's just the rubbish speakers he's using.
