      @donjohnson7550 2 года назад +103

      That’s the best tone, I think. Old school heavy metal transmits much more to the listener than today’s metal. Too much gain can have much less punch.
      That’s why many people think ac dc or Led Zeppelin were full on gain, coz the right amount of gain sounds heavier and transmits that aggressiveness to the listener better than a high high gain amplifier.
      I’m young but modern metal is just not as good as old school stuff.

    The Marshall “Plexi” amps used by classic rock bands like AC/DC have a normal channel and a high-treble channel; you switched channels by plugging your guitar into a different jack on the amp. Some people who use that type of amp “jumper” the two channels to get a blend between the normal and high-treble channels. The Tilt knob simulates this blending of the two channels on a Plexi.

The FX loop thing really works wonders, unless you're using the Metal Zone as a boost or an EQ shaping thing or if you just so happen to have an amp that really jives with that pedal, don't put it in the front. If you haven't yet tried it in the FX loop return, give it a shot, works like magic, the sizzle goes away, tightens the loose bottom end, makes it more "focused".

    I recently bought one after testing it and DSL side by side. Slap a TS-9 or OD-2 in front of it and the tone is amazing. Makes the DSL sound like Valvestate. You're gonna need a dummy load to reach The Tone in bedroom volumes though, this thing needs to be cranked

    I used one of these on a gig set clean and using a Helix as a preamp (Revv Purple) in front of it and it killed. I still want to get one for a backup to use like this. The loop was great with the effects.

    These are even very good for "modern"/todays metal genres if You know Your shit. Tried it dry, with only Centaur added. Can take the paint of the wall just like that. It is actually a brutal amp, and it got that something..... It is different. But You really have to know what You are doing with this one. Awesome in general, but tricky... My beard grew until i learned/force it to make it chug. It is a good metal amp.

    On its own, it absolutely nails the classic vibe ala Aerosmith, Boston, etc, probably good for modern rock as well. Even with the precision drive though, it sounds like it requires additional tweaking to get the proper "balls to the wall" chugs though.

    I picked this up awhile back for a pedal platform. Run an 808 kit i built from stewmac, as a clean boost, into a Revv G3. Then into a MXR smartgate. It will Chugg and sounds pretty good. The amp is crazy loud. All in all it's a great all tube pedal platform for the price.

    I have the origin 20 combo and hooked it to my 1960B Marshall 4x12 and it sounds really good with my revv g3. It also has sweet tones with my deadhorse deluxe overdrive with my keeley compressor in front of the overdrive. Its a cool little amp for pedal platform stuff.

    Its an Origin 20, its so generalized, I think they basically made it that way(like alot of the original era Marshall) as on its own it can do the normal vintage stuff especially pair it with cream backs outside of that it needs help.
    The thing I noticed about this amp is it needs Pedals if you want anything modern damn does it take pedals well though.

    I have this amp with the appropriate 4x12 cabinet and I must say that it really rocks when you use the right pedals. I replaced the valves with way better valves (In this case, Genalex Gold Lions) and it added much more tonality to the amp. The Op-Amp Big Muff Pi and Metal Muff are so fierce on this amp! It's in my opinion, a really great pedal platform.

    Doesn't sound bad to my ears. Maybe it can't quite achieve that modern metal chug without some sort of boost. But even without assistance, it can produce a pretty heavy rock/classic metal tone which works for me.

    I've got the Origin 50 head and I boost it with the Euphoria side of a Wampler Dual Fusion into a Fender Engager Boost and it does chug but what it really does well is a mix of AC/DC to early Van Halen and cleans up with your volume knob perfectly, which is what I was going for. I use a Revv G3 straight into the power section via my Boss ES8 switcher for any super heavy chugging and yes, it's a phenomenal pedal platform.

    I always prefer less distorted sounds. While it requires you to pick and hit the strings a little harder, it gives riffs a lot more aggressiveness, especially if you double track your guitar parts.
