Thanks Ola. I think I'll get the head over the combo. 40 watts would have been nice. Can you try plugging the combo into a cabinet? Love your channel and Pix rocks
Great demo, @ola englund! One thing about the noise gate is that it's mostly removing hiss from the amp, BUT it's tough for it to remove all the guitar hum pickup when the guitar is that close to the power transformer end. If you were standing further out, you'd find it to work better. But again, thanks for a thorough CHUG!

I’m excited to get one of these for myself. But I think it’s very important to the future guitarist to know and who EVH was, and his contributions to the rock world.
With all due respect, it is of no importance whatsoever to future guitarists using this amp to chug. EVH is a legendary shredder but the majority of people buying these amps are playing a completely different style
@@koooomi don’t think that’s what he’s trying to say dude lol. They’re not talking about the amp whatsoever just that every guitarist should take the time to learn what Eddie did for music if they haven’t already.

@@ThatMFShawnzy I remember I started out playing guitar in ‘96. My dad got me a strat pack with a crappy strat and one of those crappy little fender amps. He told me if he saw that I was going to stick with it, we’ll look at getting something a bit better. I stuck with it and then the spring/summer/fall of ‘97, I started mowing peoples grass for 40 bucks here, 20 to 30 there, and eventually was able to get a Peavey 5150 212 combo. I was so excited. Then got a Korean made fender strat with a humbucker and a Floyd and was in heaven! Still have that amp to this day and it’s still working and sounding as good as the day I bought it. Very reliable. All I’ve had to do to it is change the tubes when needed and replace a fuse that went out. Not bad for a 25 year old amp. But yeah, those little fender amps back in the day were horrible!!
Like Petrucci’s preference for testing amps with the main riff from Pull Me Under, I can tell you love that Haunted / Trespass riff at 2:50 as it’s made a few appearances over your vids through the years!
I’ve had my Iconic for 3 days and this amp is amazing! I’m not trying to dial it in to sound like Eddie. The amp is very versatile and there no need to dial in a lot of gain to get a great lead sound on channel 2. I use a beautiful clean sound on channel 1. The boost works fabulous! I run a line out of the preamp out to a Boss ME70 into a JCM900 into Orange cabs. That way all my effects have a volume pedal so I can blend in modulation/delay effects into the Marshall while keeping the Iconic rock solid with a little bit of reverb. I bought one a year ago. Its the first tube amp Ive ever owned. I love it. Im not a good guitar player but a line 6 always got me cheap gain. I was always annoyed by not being able to roll back my guitar volume and not have it clean up. Tube amp only
I bought this amp after seeing this video and a few others. Great amp for the price. I can do anything with this amp that requires dirt and it works well for both home practice and gigs. I love the green channel the most. It’s got good mids… and the boost feature (also on the foot switch) kicks it up nice for solos. Channel 2 is a bit saturated for me after the halfway point and I’m not into the ‘burn’ feature for similar reasons. The effects loop gave me more hiss than I hoped for but it’s not a dealbreaker. Reverb isn’t very good IMO. I always wanted a Peavey bold font 5150 amp or a Soldano Hot Rod 100. This is the closest thing to those I’ve found in a combo. If you’re looking for a combo capable of killer overdrive and super leads, this is an excellent choice. I can do light rock/blues all the way to Killswitch Engage stuff.
I bought this combo without even hearing it after my dad just bought the 5150III because I wanted something chunky in the same style but more affordable. Anyways, thank you for showing off the green channel, because I had no idea it was capable of high gain! I absolutely agree that the green channel sounds better, but I do have one complaint about the amp. It is not great with pinch harmonics, and really needs a boost in front to get that accomplished. Aside from that, it's my perfect amp and reminds of the Laney GH50L more than the original 5150 or anything else done in that style. Really an incredible amp for the money, and I have only played one other amp I liked more, the Peavey Ultra Plus.
Agreed! And with that, I'd say it's too bad they didn't make a way on the footswitch to just stay on the green channel while allowing you to just engage/disengage that drive button. For the music I play, that's literally all I'd ever need
The 80 watt head and a 4x12 cab gives a much better representation of what this amp will do. I own every version of the 5150 except for the Stealth and I'm very impressed with the Iconic's performance. I'd like to see it in a 60 watt 2x12 version.
That’s a different amp and it’s impossible for it to give a better representation of what this amp does they serve two different purposes and there two different price points, you’re comparing apples and oranges

@@SantyShatterer I'm considering buying this amp as my first tube amp. What OD pedal would you recommend? I've actually never used any overdrive pedals other than onboard overdrive.
@@nckhed good ol Ibanez TS-9 would be fine, or Boss SD-1. If you are not going to spend that much, there are hundreds of cheap TS9 clones too, I use a Joyo Vintage Overdrive and it does sound pretty good
@@SantyShatterer Ok, thanks. Do you know of any tube amps that do a nice clean tone as well as a good metal tone? I have no experience with tube amps and I hear some do metal tones really well, but can lack a decent clean tone, and vice versa.
@@nckhed i am in the same situation , please tell me what you find if you do find something good
When you consider most gear reviewed on this channel gets to run through an expensive oversized 4x12, this sounds pretty decent. I reckon it could do with a better speaker.
Eddie did it again. His parting gift.
Dude you are by far the coolest! I seen what u did for SMR! You are true brother in arms bro 😎
Thanks to this video I bought this amp and love it, I really wanted an orange rocker 15 but no where had it in stock nearby where I could play one and needed up getting this amp in white as a bstock demo with nicks in the vinyl for a damn good price! Thanks Ola!
OLA... you BEAST! Love it man.. come on... you were stalling... you knew it would chug in seconds... but did you know it would burn 🔥when it chugged?!?! 🔥 🎸😎🤘
Sounds like a very impressive combo!!
I was thinking about getting one of these and this vid tipped me over ! Absolutely blown away how good it is , you can’t wipe the smile off my face when I play it .
Gosh yeah it CHUGS! Classic Guitar crunkch too. CRUNKCH I SAY! I listen to this video and steep in the miasma of crushing CRUNKCH and marinate in the vapors of CHUG, awaiting Morpheus sweet embrace. This may be your best ever Mr. Englund.
I've got a 5150 head, and will say a little tube rolling in the red channel makes a HUGE difference. My red is usable from 1-10 giving me three great channels.
Good ear at 7:00.....that Burn with max gain is perfect for tremolo picked black metal
Well done on this James. Looking forward trying out the half stack soon!
@@OlaEnglund thanks man! Can't wait to hear your take on it!
Something about this new “Will It Chug” setup is making me very happy.
I love how cinematic this episode is. Great video dude! Yeahhhhhh it chugs
That haunted riff was nostalgic! Soo good
Thanks I bought one in ivory color last weekend with July 4th discount. It’s a great amp
They are going to sell a shit ton of these. EVH does it again and at great prices
Man, if I didn’t already have the stealth head and the EL34 head, I’d be getting one of these.
I pre-ordered mine. This was a no brainer for me as I've only had solid state combo amps and amp sims. Wanted a real tube amp that wouldn't cause a divorce and they came along and released this. Can't wait to try it whenever they ship
@@rpere2 😂
I don't drink coffee but I somehow need that Pix mug and the Pix t-shirt... And of course the 5150 Iconic Combo
Clean channel starts...Instant chug after 1 sec. Shieeet! Love it!
Hey Ola.
Happy holidays and that new chug room looks perfect. Love it.
I was impressed with the 'clean' channels gain.
It's like Peavey started making Wolfgang's again so EVH decided to make the original 5150 as revenge. I like this amp alot, it has that Mesa vibe.
This little monsta sounds so wild! Love it!
That riff from "Trespass" tho! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I have a '96 combo. Weber speakers.
It's absolutely indispensable.
i really liked the metal approach on this video. its a chuggernaut!
Your channel makes me so happy
Green channel could always hang with the red, iconic seems to be no exception!
It sounds totally awesome to me
I love when you pull out that fart box lol. I have the Peavey Rockmaster preamp and had insane chug when it was in my tour rig. I also have a Rocktron gate / compressor/ limiter I ran along with it. Seemed to clean it up good. I believe the 5150 was based off that preamp, could be wrong but that’s what I heard lol. Thanks for the fun videos man. ✌🏻
I too had the rock master and it was way before it’s time, more gain than anything I tried in 1990
I always wondered if the 5150 had an association.
I had a rockmaster with a rocktron gate crazy gain.loved that rig
Thing sounds like a beast! Channel 1 rhythm, channel 2 lead. There you have it.
🤘😎🤘
Almost forgot ola we in the shred community would like to let you know, yes you are a amazing 👏 lead guitar player, keep rocking dude
Is it just me or does that 5150 sound amazing? Like... Thats the clean channel?
5150 is my fav metal amp
I think it sounds monstrous. I love it.
Damn dude some about " seed of filth " so glad EVH is doing these 🤘
Love the will it Chug segments ! 🤘🤘
Preordered one in August. I CAN'T WAIT! .. someone unload those ships off the coast of CA!
That six feet Under at the end sounded awesome 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I love that it looks basic and sturdy....then it turns into a beautiful beast!🤘🏿😈 Getcha Pull333🤘🏿😈🤓🤘🏿
Great demo! I'm sold! This will be my new practice/travel amp.
I bought a 5153 212 combo a few years back. Nasty.
Yeah that combo sounds better than the head. Way more chug indeed. Sounds way thicker too. Great demo!! 👍
I would love to hear you do a super clean experiment with it. Someone said it doesn’t have a good clean chime.
