I was just at the local guitar center here in Sacramento jamming on the white version of this amp. I almost bought the floor model but then realized I have enough amps at home 😂
Hey Ola✌️. Couple of comments: the lead channel DOES have a noise gate on Channel 2, which automatically adjusts with the gain knob. So it gets stronger with high gain settings and even more with the Burn setting, and this saves a little cost over having the extra knob. Unfortunately you like to sit on the power transformer end of the amp, so the guitar picks up the transformer hum. Anyway it’s a compromise but is much quieter than if it wasn’t there. The top part of the cabinet is completely enclosed with the amp inside, so a 12” speaker won’t fit. I did spend time with Celestion customizing the 10” and I think it turned out great and not screechy like many smaller speakers. The power switch is actually a 1/4 power so only 4W at the beginning of your demo. Sounds like we need to get working on an even smaller one! Thanks for the chug✌️
I think the new Iconic combo is really neat for it's size and price. As for a smaller one, an "Iconic Pro" pedal that harkens back to the Tight Metal Pro v1, but of course voiced like the Iconic would be rad. Something to replace the older MXR 5150 pedal. Also I think a solid state EVH amp like the Orange Super Crush 100 would be really interesting. I can see all the forum and web drama now with a SS EVH amp.
Good to know abt the noise gate. I’m looking for a small amp for at home, the cube isnt cutting it anymore for me after all these years. My engl powerball 2 for live and rehearsal needs a lil tube brother for at home, this looks like a solid contender.
@@wootks honestly just shoving the tight metal pro circuit into a head enclosure with a fet-based power section so it won't fart out at high volume would destroy pretty much everything on the market. stick the internal dip switches on the outside like the old peavey vtm and you're in business
Got me one of these amps a month or so back. Yes it’ll chug, but it does so much more… cracking clean channel, takes pedals beautifully and is really responsive. Love the little beast 🤘🏻
I bought a 5150 ii head in the early ‘00s bcuz it was the heaviest most high gain amp I had access too at the time. It was SO loud. I don’t think I ever had the master past 3 playing in my house. loved that fkn thing

I took delivery of my 15w 5150 Iconic combo two days ago and I'm blown away. Like Ola, I am in love with Ch. 1 w/OD on. It DEFINITELY chugs! For thems who don't know, this amp was designed by amp guru James Brown who designed the original Peavey 5150 series with the Maestro back in the 80s. (He recently started working for EVH.) Ch. 1 basically approximates Eddie's Marshall years, while Ch. 2 is a tweaked Peavey 5150. It's referred to as a hydrid because, according to Mr. Brown, he put a transistor in the first of the three preamp tube slots to cut down on squealing, and another transistor was used for the phase inverter. Apparently this prolongs the life of the other tubes. All I know is that this baby can CHUG. It has two speaker outputs with adjustable impedance settings so you can drive a full stack with it if you unplug the stock 10" speaker. I'm used to 12s myself so I have a spare 1×12 cab with a nicely broken-in 70/Eighty that I'll be hooking up along with the stock 1×10 for a fuller sound. I anticipate dust piling up on my Marshall Origin 20 and my DSL cuz das gnu kid in town covers all the bases. One thing... It weighs 45 pounds.😢 I guess if it has a heavy sound, it has to be heavy. Right?
Owned a 40w combo and it was sick. Absolutely great little monster from EVH. I just ended up with a lemon and eventually returned it and bought a used 5150 head, but honestly if it kept working I would have happily stuck with it. Actually tempted to pick up this 15w combo for jamming with friends or in an apartment
Sucks when you got a great piece of gear that a$$es out on you, especially today when you can get just about anything repaired then having it just be defective..rip lil combo
@@Stephen_Eee True, but it fell under warranty so I took it as an opportunity to try something else. Then my lucky ass stumbled upon a decently priced 5150 head and it was an instant deal
And for the price that amp doesn’t really make sense. You can just spend the extra 100 and get the 40w 1x12 combo, which has a power level switch on it anyways and you’ll always have the option of the extra wattage
@@BrockOfBodom As an owner of the 40w, I think it is too big and loud for home use even on the 10w mode, so a 15w with a 1/4 power mode makes a lot of sense for that specific use case.
