This amp rocks! I have been using it for almost a year now and it still amazes me. I have it hooked up with a Harley Benton 212 speaker cab with 2 x 12" Celestion V30, it sounds awesome, it's the ideal combination and it's really really affordable, a lot of bang for the buck. I have a bunch of different pedals in front of it and a handful through the FX loop. Most of the time I use 1 basic setting for the amp but I also like to play with settings, no matter what, this thing makes everything sound great, no kidding. Some people laugh when they first see me with a Gibson Flying V or Explorer and then find out what amp i am using, I think they are just snobs. F**k em and rock on!!

These are actually Monoprice Stage Right amps just re branded as Harley Benton...Had mine over a year and it rocks..was only about 250 bucks , well worth it.
Great sounding 15 watt amp!!! I’m DEFINITELY going to pick one up. I’ve listened to A LOT of smaller amps but, none have sounded as good as that Harley Benton, for me. Thanks for the review! For that dent that your chug box made in the guitar’s body…Take a damp washrag put it over the dent that’s in the wood and take a clothes iron on medium setting place it on the rag over the dent for 10-15 seconds it will swell in the dent. Nitrocellulose lacquer is breathable but be careful not to heat the finish up too much or you can pop it off. Positive Vibrations…
It's based on a Vox AC15, a Vox doesn't chug either 😏 I have one, it's good for recording, and I like that it has an extension cabinet output, although it mutes the internal speaker when you use it. Try it into a 212 or 412 cabinet for more bass response. Also, you never turned the master over 3. You need to get both the preamp and the power amp tubes cooking to get the speaker moving for some real "chug"
Sound like a Krank amp would be cool. A friend of mine bought it when we were young and it was brutal compared to my Marshall DSL stack with a tube screamer 🙌
@@etforde I have my Rev Jr 50W Pro I bought new in 2013 and an original Krankenstein. They are both super tight and crystal clear even when they gain is turned up. They always sounded like they had a higher "quality" of tone compared to EVH, Peavey, Marshall, Orange, etc amps I've played. I will NEVER get rid of them!
Harley Benton very often pleasantly suprises. This amp is recieved very positive. And no doubt tons better then my standard 40watt HB practice amp. I love their guitars too. For learning so i can at some point justify getting an awesome Solar.
The pre amp is basically a JCM800 clone (the amp itself is a Laney Cub clone...er, actual Cub from same factory in different enclosure). Hence, an SD-1 into the front, with gain up on amp, is, well, the 80's style chug. I have the Monoprice version. It gets 90% of my practice minutes. (over a Mesa and JC SLO clone)
I hate when people say not enough to play a live show, like youre not gonna mic it up. You could play a travel battery amp and mic it close and be able to mix it but thats just me I've actually been waiting for this specific review lol great video!
not really. you're at the mercy of the PA at the venue. Most people play tiny venues without that much PA equipment and if you show up with a tiny travel amp you're not going to be able to hear yourself over the drummer 1. 2 you're going to sound really really quiet which if you're playing metal, punk, any other extreme genre is really bad.
Thinking about getting the American version. You absolutely can gig live with it. If you need more volume, either hook it up to an extension cab or mic it, or both. For under 300 US I don't think there are better options. Yeah, some lunchbox heads may be better, but you'll also have the added expense of a cab. Just my 2 cents.
I ordered one of these a couple months ago, and for the money ($400 CAD shipped) this thing is an absolute monster. Even on 1W, bedroom volume cant even get to THREE without blowing the roommates out. i think you could definitely jam/ rehearse with drums on this thing easily. i used to play on a 110W behringer modeling amp, and the HB is 10x louder. All tube baby! not to mention, hooking it up to my peddle board takes it to a whole nutha level. the ONLY heavy caveat is you need to buy a voltage converter to operate it in north America (120V-240V) they're about $60
Ola, thank you for all your videos, and especially for this review! I use this inexpensive tube combo amplifier at home. There were skeptical doubts and unfriendly reproaches of envious people. But you opened my eyes! I especially liked it. Your miracle pedal! The combo opens. I'm from Russia, politics has nothing to do with it. I respect your channel, and I am looking forward to new shows with pleasure, so that I can press the little bell and finger _ only up.(Sorry for the translation. Hi Ola good sounding amp but what does it sound like with a higher master volume setting? From what I see in this video you never really turned up the master (with the exception of in the beginning when it was almost 50%) C'mon let the amp roar (I hope it does). Have a great day!

But stock the amp was a mixed bag. Theres def not much headroom on this amp, theres a way of changing whats going on with the input to get some more clean headroom. With a TS9 and my Les Paul i can nail some crazy nice leads. You can hear the JCM800. You have to remember this amp is based on a Laney Cub 12 and that amp is based on the Marshall 2203 or 04. This just uses EL84 output tubes. I would def recommend trying out both 6n2p preamp tubes and 6p14p power tubes. They put to shame the current production tubes and dont cost an arm and a leg. The reverb circuit is never gonna be amazing in this amp, but the MOD reverb tank def helped. Also the terrible rca wires for the reverb were very prone to picking up noises. Also if your amp seems noisy, there is a hum pot inside the amp that may need to be adjusted. The stock speaker is garbage (i dont care what name is on it). I replaced mine with a Electro Harmonix speaker built by Eminence. These are killer speakers for jack shit cost. There was a NIGHT and day difference with the 2 speakers. I allowed time for both speakers to wear in a bit. 20 hours is my usual before deciding which. The 70/80 does everything but nothing at the same time. For $35 shipped the EHX 12ts8 speaker made this amp sing. Make sure your amp is biases correctly. These come biased at 7.5v and this amp needs to be at more along the lines of 10.5v or so. If your expecting this amp to do Fender tones, not really gonna happen. Unless you get what a few people have gotten and I bought just for this amp. Joyo American pedal. Its like a blackface/tweed preamp in a pedal. This added that Fender tone i think a lot of people were missing. This pedal can be used in the fx loop or in front. But i just wanted to make sure i passed that on to folks as a cheap option to possibly get that tone you were not getting. There are better pedals that do this thing, but you can find one of these for $25 on a good day. Hope i could be helpful and thanks for the video :-)
Damn that HB sounds better than my Bugera V22 with a metal muff in the front of it. Curious to hear how it sounds with just and overdrive in front. I know my DSL20 combo with a tube screamer mini in the front really fucking rips. Awesome demo as always Ola.
I have one and it’s great. The reverb should be upgraded. It’s just not as wet as it should be. Other than that it’s a beast for a practice amp. If your playing a garage show it’s plenty loud. Great home amp. I found that it delivered enough metal to play anything thrash but when I added pedals it really gets nasty while still maintaining clarity.
Idk about the amp being unable to handle a rehearsal or a live gig - I've tried it, and while we're mostly playing rock and not metal, it was loud as fuck, kept up with the drummer without any problems and the volume was set to maybe 70%. Doubly so if you'd plug it into a 4x12 which just happened to stand there, haha. Also, we played a wedding gig, I miked it to beef the sound up a bit, but loudness-wise it had plenty of power.
I'm pleasantly surprised this amp sounds really freaking good. I've seen a few others talk about this being a cheap way into a tube amp. I may have to get one now.
For the price this amp is very good : spring reverb (you can use it with a footswitch), all tubes, an effects loop, and a Celestion 80 ! One regret: I would have liked to hear the amp in the Mesa Cab !!! This Celestion 80 speaker is not the best... Thanks Ola for this video !
Nothing wrong with the Seventy80 speakers man! I actually prefer them over most of my V30's... with the exception of the UK V30's in the Mesa. Their bad reputation is unjustified.
I think this a Laney LC15/cub clone like the monoprice. The preamp side is the high gain side of a JCM800 but it's got much smaller power tubes and transformers. I'm using a cub head with a 1x12 or 2x12 and it's louder than any drummer. The tone operates across the output transformer on the cub, it's really useful if you use the amp as a pedal platform into the fx loop or use a loop switcher to go from preamp to external pedal in the fx loop for channel switching. I use it mostly as a fast dial for getting close to right when swapping between speaker cabs on on my cub head.
I use this amp clean gain at 4 and put the TC electronics fangs on the front. It is a surprise of an amp. People, chsnge the tubes on v1 and c2, those chinese tubes on it really are capacitance loud.
Today, u can gig with any amp if u mic it. Also u can gig with a battery like a blackstar fly or nux mighty or simirlar if u put the amp to PA. The future is for the amp pedals, desktop amps and multi fx.
A tube screamer, an overdrive, or even the MT-2 that the beginner metal player is going to get but set as a boost into the effects loop would have been a good check.
That amp has been made by Monoprice and sold as a Stage Right amp for several years. I have one I have played rthe shit out of for thw past 2 yrs without a single problem. I get chug out of mine with 6 or 7 gain and 5 or 6 volume and everything else about noon. Seems like once the volume get to 5 or 6 it really awakens the beast in them. Mine was loaded with JJs and the 70/80 celestion and sounds really good and excepts pedals well. I have to travel 400 miles to work and its perfect for a in the middle of no-where and if it got stolen I would be out a lot of money. I really like the one I have. It is supposedly a Laney Cub board and electronics. I have a music room with several up to 75W amps but end up playing the Monoprice/bentley way more than the others. It has been very dependable and I crank it to metal and chug for hours at a time. Seems like any decent overdrive will get it chuggin and lower volume and gain settings. Anyways, thanks for the great review on the more affordable items. Sure makes me feel better on my purchase. Keep on Chuggin David
Personally I've got enough amps, but checked the pre-shipping price on the HB Tube 15 and it looks pretty affordable! If you're looking for a first/second amp this is a good option to consider :)
Ola Ola, could you please find Mouse practice amplifier, which Dime use for his early lesson in 1983 while working in guitar shop and giving lessons(which was recorded on tape). It would be interesting to hear "will it chug?" :D
I hear mixed feelings on HB products! I’ve always been a Peavey guy since the 80’s because it “was” here by me in Mississippi and they always had great products since the “1st” 5150! Now looking at the EVH 5150 40watt combo amp w/12” driver! Ola approved and it will “Chug!”#🎸🔊🤘🏻
"...aaand it's a B-Stock!" had me laughing hard! Great humour on this channel, although I am not a metal fan in any way, I'll always stop by and hear some wise words from Ola
Ima keep it real with you chief i’m not a artist or didn’t go to design school or anything but this background of amps is throwing me off. I liked the wall so much better. the amps look so odd. the wall was comforting.
........ love this chug machine! .......There is a celestion 70 in there also. Probably would like this amplifier with a BGT white stripe. Then upgrade the power supply or amp with more tube wiring for more power and thicken up wires need thickening and etc. so i can play live with it and at practice with the same rig i practice and jam and write songs on. That is the way it works.
The EQ is the normal Marshall tone stack, and behaves exactly as one. The preamp overall is a normal JCM800 preamp. The schematics are available online. This is a JCM800 preamp into the 2 x el84 power amp, with an effects loop that works fine (for any pedals I use on it). And, personally, I like the cheapo Celestion speaker, and the real spring reverb. I think of this as a alternative to a DSL20 (as I use it), but better, mainly due to the real reverb. The DSL20 has more widgetry, but when I want to dial and dial stuff for the fun of it, I just goto my Mesa Mark. As a turnkey combo, less can be more.
@@greasemonkey568 Well, being a big RATM & AudioSlave fan the JCM800 is a very special amp to me, so that definitely adds this Amp to the "RAD" category 🤟
I have the 5 watt monoprice branded version of this. It has only a useless and violently bright tone knob and volume only. I swapped the Celestion for a Jensen and it sounds better. I mostly play it with a Rat and/or an old Boss FZ-1 and gets plenty doomy with my Solar 7. But I don't get to crank it up loving on a thin walled condo. This amp has a lot more gain and eq controls and is way better sounding for it.
Nice little amp, but personally I would still prefer a Joyo Zombie and a standalone 1x12 Box over it. Yeah, it's hybrid and 2 parts to carry, but you can be sure that it god damn CHUGGS! Pricepoint should also be similar to the HB Combo
After hearing this video I want that solar Chug preamp. I have a harley benton 2x12 with v-30’s i want to pair it with. Unfortunately Thomann won’t ship Solar products to the USA. 😢

On second thought, I'm sure it chugs haha, but would still love to see some kind of demo of it!
I'm pleasantly surprised this amp sounds really freaking good. I've seen a few others talk about this being a cheap way into a tube amp. I may have to get one now.
The amp is a rebadged Laney Cub 12 with spring reverb instead of digital reverb. It’s legit AND it has a speaker out if you want to drive a cabinet.
I mean if you don't overdrive the power tubes at all then you haven't really completed your test right?
I would have liked to hear the amp after it was warmed up, with the pre and post cranked.
Fuzz bender. Will it chug?
Keep on Chuggin
David
I've got an old 2x12 crate 120w solid state Amp. I'd love to but a chug pedal for it. The chug has the perfect distortion sound for me
this is pretty cool! could you make one abt the harley benton 4x12 with the v30s?
I love your "Will It Chug" videos man🤘🤘 I'm your big fan from Philippines
what model is that solar? It would be killer to tune once in a while Ola
I have this combo and I am satisfied with the metal muff pedal
Personally I've got enough amps, but checked the pre-shipping price on the HB Tube 15 and it looks pretty affordable!
If you're looking for a first/second amp this is a good option to consider :)
Man oh man I love that guitar
Been waiting for this one.
Ola Ola, could you please find Mouse practice amplifier, which Dime use for his early lesson in 1983 while working in guitar shop and giving lessons(which was recorded on tape). It would be interesting to hear "will it chug?" :D
Looks like a rebranded Stage Right 15 by Monoprice at 279. USD
First time here. Sounds good to me for a first amp.
So, I'm sure it's been mentioned but I just want everyone to know that this amp is the same as the monoprice 15 watt
Boosting the volume might have made it (at least closer to) chug!
Right! Since the "chug meter" is actually a volume meter.
He needs to sell more Chugs.
Ima keep it real with you chief i’m not a artist or didn’t go to design school or anything but this background of amps is throwing me off. I liked the wall so much better. the amps look so odd. the wall was comforting.
It's "GHUGGIN"...It Sounds Great without the "Distortion Pedals".🤟🎸🤟
I thought it was chugging with the gain maxed, nice thick tone too.
I love that you censor english curses, but you just said Fan like 3 times messing with your chair at the beginning LOL good job Ola.
Great work Ola, that was an awesome demo man and it's great for what it is 😀🤘🎵🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Finally you review it, the Monopri....Harley benton tube 15!
Definitely did not realize these amps were identical haha
........ love this chug machine!
.......There is a celestion 70 in there also. Probably would like this amplifier with a BGT white stripe. Then upgrade the power supply or amp with more tube wiring for more power and thicken up wires need thickening and etc. so i can play live with it and at practice with the same rig i practice and jam and write songs on. That is the way it works.
Dime the volume!!!!
What happens if you max the output? Should give some additional power amp distortion
I mean, the EQ seems responsive, that's always a good thing. Writing this before I know the price, but seems like a good value starter amp
Damn. This amp may not chug but it's clean AF even at max gain and volume...nice!
it looks and sounds like and an amp I had many years ago, the Laney LC15
I have the 5 watt monoprice branded version of this. It has only a useless and violently bright tone knob and volume only. I swapped the Celestion for a Jensen and it sounds better. I mostly play it with a Rat and/or an old Boss FZ-1 and gets plenty doomy with my Solar 7. But I don't get to crank it up loving on a thin walled condo. This amp has a lot more gain and eq controls and is way better sounding for it.
Have one of these. Love it.
Makes me wanna get a CHUg pedal!!!
Do it!! It's so badass. 🤘
Nice little amp, but personally I would still prefer a Joyo Zombie and a standalone 1x12 Box over it. Yeah, it's hybrid and 2 parts to carry, but you can be sure that it god damn CHUGGS!
Pricepoint should also be similar to the HB Combo
I agree. The HB 1x12 V30 cab with the Joyo Zombie is around 300€/$. Must be the best value chug one can get?
Was that a dolphin riding zombie sound effect from Plants vs Zombies I hear @ 8:58?
I love my Chug pedal.
After hearing this video I want that solar Chug preamp. I have a harley benton 2x12 with v-30’s i want to pair it with. Unfortunately Thomann won’t ship Solar products to the USA. 😢
That shit sounded pretty beautiful. I liked it before the Chug pedal. Thanks for what you do. Will be buying merch soon as well as a Solar V!
When Ola goes “Holy sh*t?!” Like that, you know he actually is impressed. Keep on chugging Ola!!!!!!
Impressed with the pedal he's endorsing and selling lol no way
@@IridiumZero no. My take on it was he didn’t expect the amp to be as good of a pedal platform as it turned out to be.
But to each their own
@Erik Rummel wow the pedal he's selling can make a cheap amp sound good just in time for Christmas, no way!
@@IridiumZero still not the point but ok dude, I get it, your skeptical, we got it
Love the DNR riff! 🤘🤘
