Dude I love this sound, playing Van Halen is hard and technical but once you get past that it’s all about that “feel.” you got it dude I can tell you have so much fun playing that thing! I’ll stick with my EVH overdrive pedal tho haha
First he drilled the holes in a row, then with a bandsaw he cut along the holes, halving them. Chainsaw would have done more damage, and doubt he even knew how to operate one being a city kid. So with this tinkering he totally destroyed the bridge and the sound of the guitar, at first he was pretty distraught over it and sought an identical replacement but never found another with the same harmonics. Live and learn I guess.

Absolutely fantastic video, great guitar playing…I actually have the EVH stripe Series Wolfgang and the EVH stripes series bumblebee with EVH 5150 EL 34, 5150 6L6 ivory, both with matching cabs, 212s, and I also have the EVH 80 W iconic Ivory head with matching 412 cabinet, every EVH pedal there is on my board including the echoplex and everything else that Eddie added and a little more but one thing I did not have is the shark guitar until I saw this video, I absolutely shut this video off I actually paused it I should say for about 35 seconds while I placed my order with Reverb on a mint condition used EVH Shark for $1500, thank you very much for this very entertaining video because you inspired me to finally pull the trigger on the shark guitar that I’ve been wanting to do for sometime so thank you for that. I should also mention the reason why I never bought the shark before is because I do own about 50 guitars, and about 22 Amps of all different makes and models, and probably over 100 pedals with three full pedal boards, extra large pedal boards and dozens of pedals in boxes on my shelf that are not being used, also PA systems, electronic drum set, two keyboards yada yada yada complete studio set up mixing, iMac with ProTools, you name it, I got it, I have been playing the guitar since I was 11 years old and I am 60 years old in January 2020 so this is nearly 50 years of collecting, I don’t sell anything I buy….and it is a issue of contention when it comes to my wife when I buy new gear that now I have to literally sneak it into the house in the dark of night while she’s sleeping, once it’s in my studio she doesn’t know one thing from the next, lol. 😅🎉

If Alex and Michael and Sammy and or Dave ever decided to to a Van Halen tribute to Eddie tour, I believe they should ask you if you want to play Eddie's stuff, I don't think I've heard anyone else that has more of Eddie's feel and you have his style down pat in my opinion, just a thought, I believe if Alex or Michael ever heard you they should be considering you, that is if you wanted to, you are a killer EVH player my friend.

they were Korina finished, not Korina wood. the destroyers were made from Sen which is basically japanese ash. Eddie thought they were korina because of the original amber finish.

Hi! The CC is at the end of the pedal chain front of the amp. The reverb is just a very light hall reverb added in post. No further EQ or post-processing was done to the tone other than adding Reverb.
I think I'd be like you. I'd pull off that neck pickup and disconnect that pickup off so I could use the switch the way Eddie used it. I have a Frankie and while some have connected the middle pickup because it's a working pickup, I just won't. I've I'm going to have a replica, it's going to work like the replica, but that's just me.
Dude you have chops I wasn't expecting. I have this amp and love it for the clean and the gain. Only issue is the noise gate for me have you found this issue? That and im not a huge fan of spring reverb. I guess two pedals reverb and noise gate and its perfect.

Great but i think the EVH 5150 is a bit to gainy and a bit squishy for an early Eddie Van Halen tone. His VHI tone is not as distorted as many think. Also he mostly used his Phase 90 on solos.
He’s got the burn switch engaged. This amp does great lower gain Marshall tones too. Turn off the burn switch and keep the gain below half and it’s perfect. It’s a great amp.
@@crsantin Still i had a 100W EVH 5150III and it’s very gainy and doesn’t sound much like a Marshall at all. It sounds kind of like a half cocked wah. Listen to Eddie’s tone on the last studio and live album. I think he’s got a real bad tone there. Far from the great tone he had on the early Van Halen albums.
@@matsandersson8857 you got that right. VH1 is quite distorted, but not in the same way that a 5150 distorts. The distortion on VH1 probably comes more from the shear volume of the amp into microphone + the post effects
@@matsandersson8857 another difference is power amp distortion vs preamp distortion. the evh amps can distort at bedroom levels because of preamp distortion. same reason master volume jcm800s dont sound like ed's plexi's
Hi! There seems to be very little difference. They’re both Alnico 2 high output humbuckers. The shark set has 13k in the neck and 16k output on the bridge while the 5150 is rated at 14k output. There might be some slight sonic differences although overall they’re both great sounding hot humbuckers.
I mean these new amps ( and players !) Are Killer........BUT, if a person is after really great (hard rock/Metal tone), then all they need is a good 4x12 cab (25, 65, 75 watt celestion,OR, E.voice, Altec,etc) with either a 2204 or 2203 MARSHALL circuit with a good boost ( Mxr Distortion +, DOD overdrive/preamp 250, Boss Super Overdrive (best imo), as well as an Ibanez Tubescreamer, etc)......THAT, with a bridge position humbucker ( not those low output 'old man that is stuck in the '60's paf clones) is ALL you need. These mass produced ' designed down to a cost amps' PALE in comparison to a good original or (especially) a well built clone.

Check out Jake Deraps on RUclips. He's that exact kind of guy. Don't get me wrong I love Eddie but I tend to agree with you for the most part. I don't think owning an artist's signature guitar means they're "obsessed", however. EVH guitars are pretty well made.
these amps are garbage -dont believe me then go to the store and try doing a van halen whoosh ..... its not a van halen amp -it does not sound like a van halen amp .... the hot rod deluxe is still better -has more gain - and sounds more van halen .... dont waste your money till fender/evh figures their crap out

Me too. Having played Marshalls and Blackstars for long time and without the budget needed for MESA this 5150 produces fantastic sound for the money.
I demoed one of the heads a lil while back and I came away VERY impressed.
The combo is so loud . It's as loud as my stealth 50 watt head unit into matching stealth 212.

The Ibanez Destroyer Eddie owned was made out of Sen wood also known as Sen Ash. A Asian wood similar to American Ash.

That white explorer was a repainted mid-70s Ibanez destroyer, which he turned into the shark in the early 80s

The Iconic are pretty much hybrid amps where some corners get cut so the mass market can afford a 5150 style amp. Nothing wrong with that.

Your intonation needs adjusted. You may just be outta tune, but sounds more like an intonation issue.
