These tones sound great & so does your playing... ! I've gotten rid of all my Pedals and feel liberated. No more screwing around with them is WAY better......
Hey Brett i played that Van Halen guitar the other day the neck is amazing on that thing. Most comfortable neck ive ever played and ive played allot of different guitars but this one is awesome.
@@dreyn7780 I own several of them. I graduated high school in 81 so that should answer your question. Plus I've seen Van Halen with David Lee Roth in 84. I also played four nights a week for 7 years playing lots of Van Halen songs and wearing all the crazy'80s Rock clothing and hair. It was all sweet!
Totally nails the sound. The sound which I think he's got the best on the 1984 album and then it was downhill soundwise. And- the 1984 album is really all you need right? Everything else is just nice to have :)
Wrong. Now that you're a proven liar, what are you going to do about it? You don't even have the vinyl record. You Went down hill as soon as you started posting comments.
Thank you so much for this video! I just bought a used one and so glad to see it “Van Halen”. I have the variac (which here it doesn’t seem to need it but at 70-80 volts, Eddie did 90v only live, my other Marshall DSL got real brown), Sylvania 6CA7s, and going to get the Sylvania 12ax7s soon here.
I’m a volume knob rider on the guitar. I usually find that I have to set my amp to “kill” and turn volume back on the guitar and roll up for solos. Is there enough power in the sv20 to accomplish this in a band setting?
Fantastic playing. Best demo I've seen of the SV20... I wish i could play a tenth as well as you can to get my own SV20 sounding that sweet. I'm going to dial in your settings next chance i get and rock out!!! Well done and thank you
EVH' tone is the best tone sound of any guitar of all time. Its so much more alive than a Hendrix tone or SRV tone...nothing better. The first six album tone VH1 - 1984....unmatched
I think the tone came from the stripes! JK! That is incredible tone. Love what Marshall is doing. And your chops don't hurt! Edit: Holy Sh*t dude, your Hendrix tone and skills are unbelievable.
Fantastic man! Great tones, and one hell of a guitar player! I like how you use the fuzz pedal, I’ve never thought of using a fuzz like that but it makes total sense as to why I never got along well with them, I didn’t know how to use it right! Thanks for sharing, that amp is great, I’m counting my Pennie’s now….
Brett-great demo. I’ve got the sc20 and love it. I tried the SV20 at very loud volumes once and loved it. However, it was a pretty hissy amp at that level. Did you use any sort of gate or noise suppressor when you recorded this demo? When I’ve used EQs in front of my amps, they’ve always added more hiss/floor noise. But they do indeed work well as you’ve demonstrated.
It's not too bad over here. I've got pretty good power and isolation on stuff in the studio so maybe that helps. Also just for teaching purposes we touch that stuff up a bit in post. But not a crazy amount. Before the audio gets done I hear it as is in the studio and its really not bad on my end.
@@jeremyversusjazz Most guitar gear reviewers stuff everything through attenuators and cab sims straight into a soundcard, who knows what this amp sounds like live.
It sounds great with a cab. For what I do though it is too much for the lab mics etc to handle when you crank stuff up. Just remember it probably will sound better with a real cab and not worse. There are tons of demos out there where they are running through a real cab.
Holy sh@t - I'm a year late, but bookmarking this one, great playing on a great amp! I just got a JTM-1H, for my first taste of Marshall at 68, because it was on my bucket list. Another awesome Brett Papa video. I've played thru all the Marshall 20 watt heads. Marshall has done an excellent job on these. The Plexi, JCM, and Jubilee, all great amps, still with the EL-34 magic glass bottles, with low noise levels for a tube amp.
I just returned a Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister Deluxe 20. I'm going to go plug into one of these tomorrow. Your sound is great with this amp. I have the Marshall 1974X and it's awesome. Just want something that has a master volume and lower watts. Thanks for the video!
I played one of the combo versions months ago at a local shop. I've owned both 50 and 100w Marshall 800 and 900 combo's in the past, and played many others over the decades. In MY personal opinion, this little studio plexi is the best damned amp Marshall has ever produced, for TWO reasons: One, is obvious: the killer vintage tones.....but the other, is it is much more usable vs a 50w or 100w amp because let's face it......when's the last time you've performed in "a stadium or large colosseum"? Answer: most likely, NEVER. And he's right, even on the 5w setting, this little amp is still loud as hell. If ya can't afford a decent attenuator, then using a volume pedal in the effects loop is a much cheaper alternative to keep evictions to a minimum. I absolutely love everything about this amp.........it's the real deal.
@@donavonmacallister3101 Thanks Christopher. I'm 60 yrs old & retired from the music scene here in east/central Florida back in 2002. I gigged professionally for decades up to that point, mostly classic rock, blues, some contemporary and country. I was a perfectionist ( playing guitar and singing lead vocals at the same time. ) So I decided to go to a local shop to demo one of these little Plexi Marshall's to see if the hype was true. As I was playing through it, I stopped and looked up at several people & said: "Now why in the hell didn't Marshall make this little gem available back when I was gigging?" followed by: "I just can't win".......and we all laughed. It smokes any of the JCM 800 and 900's ( 50w and 100w ) that I owned in the past, because ya couldn't crank em loud enough to get those power tubes really working to full potential.

If you don’t have a plexi you do need this amp man. Trust me I came from a fender HRD III for 10+ years and was looking for something with earlier natural breakup. I was blown away at what I had been missing. Do your soul a favor and buy it man.
That thing sounds amazing man. I've got a code 100. The plexi, jcm800, and the silver jubilee models are very convincing. I may have to look at one of these for a stand alone to use my pedals with. That evh tone was tasty.
They are all great amps which is the problem lol!
Really great playing...and the tones are legit...you did a fantastic job nailing the tones
Thanks Bryan!
Hey Brett, what a great way to get my weekend started. Sittin' here with my Strat and a cup of black coffee and watchin this. Nice!!! Have a great weekend Brah!!!
You too!
Damn, my arms in the air, Thank you. Best VH youtube I have ever heard. I literally felt Eddie again.. Saw VH in 82, 84, 86
That is awesome! Thanks Jeff!
My goodness I haven't heard a better brown sound ever...well done and well played Sir!!
Thanks so much!
Yeah, about 3 years ago I purchased a used 1987x and my whole life changed for the better.
Everyone should have a Marshall Plexi style amplifier.
For sure!
OMG... I'm a huuuge EVH fan, but that SRV Texas Flood tone is insane with that LTD. Great playing, Brett!
Thank ya! LTD is one of my favorite pedals ever.
Bro!! your style is so raw and sincere and full of vibe! I wish you and I could jam one day! I just love how you bring it. Keep on doing what you do and I will follow you with every tone and lick of the fretboard until the day I die.
Haha thanks man! Glad you like the vids!
Brett, Amazing playing as always. The 20w Marshall head is amazing. I've always leaned toward lower wattage, cranked amps for the perfect tone. The new Marshall kills it! Thanks for the great demo.
Thanks!
I've been watching you a while now, but you slapped me in the face today and woke me up! Holy moly, Ya rocked it brother.
Lol! Thanks man!
love this amp!! Rocking mine with some greenbacks all the tones are in that little beast. Nice job on the tones!!
Bet that sounds awesome! Thanks!
When you rolled the volume down on that Strat, I smiled. Great playing
Thank ya!
Great SV20H demo Brett. Been lovin' mine for 2 yrs now. With a 4x12 and a Ironman ll mini (for home use) - can't beat this rig. Thanks for the 10 band EQ tip. #marshallamplification
I bet that sounds amazing!!
I just found your channel and gotta as I sub’d immediately. You speak well and with no sign of arrogance. Love it. Keep it up brother..
Great video and tones !
I have the SV20H, Mini Jubilee and the SL2555, this mini plexi is a monster sounding amp.
Brett you should try out the Legendary Tones Hot Mod V2 EVO with the SV20H
it makes it even better and sounds amazing, you wont need no pedals anymore.
Man that is awesome! Got lots of great amps it sounds like. Never heard of that mod but I will check it out.
So This mod works on the SV20H how about the Mr. Scary mod single wire will it work
These tones sound great & so does your playing... ! I've gotten rid of all my Pedals and feel liberated. No more screwing around with them is WAY better......
Yeah I don't use pedals much anymore. Thanks for watching!
I forgot about your Nash strat. That thing is a beast
I love that thing. Nash makes such great stuff!
I had already watched this video a while ago, but I just realized that you play those EVH riffs reeeally well, man!
Kudos!
Thank ya!
Hey Brett i played that Van Halen guitar the other day the neck is amazing on that thing. Most comfortable neck ive ever played and ive played allot of different guitars but this one is awesome.
I would agree. It is my favorite neck shape I have ever played. Feels so comfortable.
That amp really does sound great. I have a 73 50w but this amp intrigues me. Lower wattage and effects loop
73 is an awesome year! Super fun little amp and it will sound different enough than what you have.
Killer as always Brother Papa! 🔥🎸🤘🏻
Thank ya!
Love Van Halen and the fact you love it. Also your interpretation of Bold as Love is best on the internet.
Thanks so much!
Sounds excellent! and great playing Mr. Papa! Got my eye of these now.
Thanks! They are so great!!
Hi , great playing. Are u using the Ox sim ?
Do you even own a Van Halen vinyl record?
@@dreyn7780 I own several of them. I graduated high school in 81 so that should answer your question. Plus I've seen Van Halen with David Lee Roth in 84. I also played four nights a week for 7 years playing lots of Van Halen songs and wearing all the crazy'80s Rock clothing and hair. It was all sweet!
OMG, been waiting for this video ever since you posted on IG about it! Thanks for the sick playing as usual!
Thanks for watching Kevin!
Totally nails the sound. The sound which I think he's got the best on the 1984 album and then it was downhill soundwise. And- the 1984 album is really all you need right? Everything else is just nice to have :)
I love all the early albums. Tone was on fire!
Wrong.
Now that you're a proven liar, what are you going to do about it?
You don't even have the vinyl record.
You Went down hill as soon as you started posting comments.
@@BrettPapa Indeed! IMO it just kept evolving and got better and better and 1984 was like perfection. Thanks for all your great videos man!
Awesome man! Good times about to be had!
So many great RUclips guitar teachers/players but few compare to Brett coolness and enthusiasm! Thank you! 🙏
I agree man! Papastache all the way! Yeah-he!
Thank ya! Glad to hear you like the vids!
Rubbish.
I never get tired of VH, HENDRIX, VAUGHN
Me either lol!
This sound of Van Halen is Amazing !😍
Thanks Eric!
Best amp I've used. I have two Studio Vintage's. One for backup. I have perfect Trower tone.
Sounds like a plan right there!
Superb playing and it nails the tone! That's a really excellent amp and I'm getting one!
Awesome! If you want to help out the channel use my link in the description box! Thanks for watching!
@@BrettPapa will do brother!
This video would be GOAT if he would post the EVH/Hendrix/SRV settings in the description.
Sounds awesome and so does the playing.
Thanks!
You're wrong.
Now I'm your aggrovator.
I'm kicking your arse you liar.
Sounds nothing like VH or jimi or anyone else.
That was sick, amazing from beginning to end. Beautiful ❤️
Awesome! Glad you liked it!
I’m a volume knob rider on the guitar. I usually find that I have to set my amp to “kill” and turn volume back on the guitar and roll up for solos. Is there enough power in the sv20 to accomplish this in a band setting?
Yep love rolling the knob. For sure it is enough to rock a gig!
Fantastic playing. Best demo I've seen of the SV20... I wish i could play a tenth as well as you can to get my own SV20 sounding that sweet. I'm going to dial in your settings next chance i get and rock out!!! Well done and thank you
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it. That amp is awesome! Been playing it all week!
EVH' tone is the best tone sound of any guitar of all time. Its so much more alive than a Hendrix tone or SRV tone...nothing better. The first six album tone VH1 - 1984....unmatched
It's my favorite for sure!
I agree. Eddie called it the "Brown Sound" I just call it freakin' great.
Three styles played spot on with your enthusiasm and passion thanks
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
Amazing sound. I recently bought one as well. Are you mic’ing a cab or running through the ox box. I have a two notes captor x.
Thanks! I run all my stuff through the OX in my studio.
Sounds amazing. Soo many great riffs/ songs Ed wrote.
For sure!
I think the tone came from the stripes!
JK! That is incredible tone. Love what Marshall is doing. And your chops don't hurt!
Edit: Holy Sh*t dude, your Hendrix tone and skills are unbelievable.
Thanks man! I appreciate that!
Thanks Sonny! It is an awesome amp! I highly recommend them!
I've had this amp for almost 3yrs. Thanks to arthritis I've played through it all of a dozen time and am just learning to adjust it.
It is a pretty versatile little amp. Great pedal platform as well.
Love It!! Great playing and yes that amp sounds killer. Did you use the Ox for this or mic a cabinet? Sounds Great!
yeah that’s my question he doesn’t mention the OX🤷♂️
@@jeremyversusjazz Most guitar gear reviewers stuff everything through attenuators and cab sims straight into a soundcard, who knows what this amp sounds like live.
Yep I am using the OX with a 412 cab sim.
It sounds great with a cab. For what I do though it is too much for the lab mics etc to handle when you crank stuff up. Just remember it probably will sound better with a real cab and not worse. There are tons of demos out there where they are running through a real cab.
@@BrettPapa thanks! I figured it was the Ox.
Holy sh@t - I'm a year late, but bookmarking this one, great playing on a great amp! I just got a JTM-1H, for my first taste of Marshall at 68, because it was on my bucket list. Now you got me gassing for that beauty, I love Marshall clean tones - SRV used his for clean, the Vibroverb for overdrive. Thanks Papa (I shop at a local bud store called "Papa Buds" - if you ever come to Portland check it out, they'll likely give you a freebee!
Haha! Thanks for watching
5 watts is enough to piss my neighbors off. Ask me how I know...
Damn man! I’m sold! I’ve been wanting one of these for great while! And all the tones you’re getting are what I’m wanting! Great playing too!
They are fantastic amps! Been playing mine a ton lately!
I have one, terrific amp. Also agree strongly on the EQ being the most underestimated but super useful pedal.
100% agreed!
I like the way you let the viewer hear you dialing in the different guitars
Thanks!
Brett, Hope you are doing well Sir ! Its been about 8 years since I used your video on hold on loosely to learn my first song on guitar. It has been an amazing journey learning this instrument. However, its an addictive habit that currently has me at 6 electrics, 4 acoustics and a few different amps. Just wanted to say thank you for being such a great influence, love your energy. Yeaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh..
Lol! Thanks for checking out the videos all these years! Glad you like them!
They are always very well done, educational and fun. I play quite a bit and if you stick with it, man is it relaxing. I am more than certain that you, Marty and several others have helped many beginning and experienced guitar players ! @@BrettPapa
Hey Brett, thanks for your demo of this amp. Your video and a few other peoples video helped me decide to give this amp a chance. I bought one, and it is awesome !!
Awesome! Such a great amp!
Dude i really dig ur stuff
Ive watched ur tutorials on certain songs when i need to learn a tune
Thank you
Btw this Marshall sounds killer
I just bought a Marshall JVM 215C for gigs and its the best Marshall I’ve ever had maybe the best sounding amp for doing Jimi Trower Doyle Bramhall II and ZZTop
Ive had a Fender Vibro King killer amp and I still own a
Mesa Boogie Mark II C +
My Strats love the Marshall …
Yeah their amps sound amazing with Strats.
Little late to the party, but awesome video! I’ve had this amp for a good year or so now and, whilst I haven’t;t used it as much as I should have, I completely agree… it’s killer! You’ve inspired me to start cranking it again!!
Awesome!
Dude, this amp sounds freak awsome! Great playing and nice video as always!
Thank ya sir!
I just came across your videos the other day…totally killer tones and awesome info you share. Thanks a million - subscribed!!
Thanks so much!
I was glued to your playing and tones Dr Pappa!
Thanks for checking it out!
Another awesome Brett Papa video. I've played thru all the Marshall 20 watt heads. Marshall has done an excellent job on these. The Plexi, JCM, and Jubilee, all great amps, still with the EL-34 magic glass bottles, with low noise levels for a tube amp.
For sure! And you are right they all sound fantastic!
I get these tones easily with my blaxkstar amped 3 and an eq.
Reaming amazing pedal. No tubes the right speakers. No lore carrying amps. I love it.
I just returned a Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister Deluxe 20. I'm going to go plug into one of these tomorrow. Your sound is great with this amp. I have the Marshall 1974X and it's awesome. Just want something that has a master volume and lower watts. Thanks for the video!
Sure thing Phil! Glad you liked the video!
The transition to unchained is perfect!
Thanks!
I can see how you feel that way! Super great amp!
Great comment
@@BrettPapa It sure is!!!
Yo PapaStache! I'm trying to like this video twice! :) Definitely buying one of these amps now. You hit the trifecta of reasons to buy it for me. Very well done!

Mr. Brett Pappa! MY BROTHER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER! Lol...
Seriously man, how do you like the D-Tuna? Is it all that it's cracked up to be? And also... INSANE TONE AND REAL HARMONICS!!! SO, SO AWESOME! The sound is almost as thick as my... HAIR USED TO BE! LOL... Get your mind out of the gutter people! Now... THE Hendrix tone? NAILED IT! I gotsta tell ya... belive me or not... so dude! I was so blessed enough to be at the right place at the right time! I got to guitar tech for PRINCE in Vegas for a little while when he did his residency at The Rio Hotel Casino!!! Long story, but a highlight in my music career indeed! Lol...Keep the faith and keep fighting the good Rock-N-Roll fight man! God bless and take care...
I like it a lot. I absolutely love the EVH guitar as well. That Marshall is such a killer little amp. Etched for Prince? Wow that is awesome! Heard some stories about those gigs lol!
Thanks for mentioning the studio rats! They're really great and professional, they deserve more ;)
For sure! Great channel!
I use a boss eq for boost and I have used it as a standard eq because it adds warmth and sparkle to the signal.
Yep they are a great tool
OMG your playing is insane, and that amp sounds amazing.
Thanks Mark! That amp is great!
Fantastic ! I just bought one and cannot wait.
You are great ! THANKS
