Come to think of it, we really should have caught on they were related sooner. And kudos to Nardole for loyalty, most people quit working for you after getting decapitated the once.

And she accomplished exactly that, killing herself for a Doctor who didn't knew her. But would.
It's what Missy accomplished as well. The Doctor never knew Missy stood WITH him instead of against him at the end. Without witness, without reward.

I always love how comically large hoods are for dramatic reveals. You know Nardole had to walk around with the hood off so he could see, then put it over his head to be mysterious, then slowly walk so he doesn't trip over anything because he can't see anything past his own feet

@Ant Everett be happy a show that started in 1963, that suffered much worse criticism, is still around.
@@FATLADYTHRILLER tbh. I would have been more happy if they ended it with after moffat. Chib's era really hasn't been too good till now and it just lacks the style and horror elements of Moffat's era (which I adored) or the generally interesting story of Davies'. Moffat even wrote a decent end for the show in the christmas episode and the previous finale. The master is finally dead, the doctor last meets the first one last time. It would have been a nice ending.
But nope. Here comes the fam squad.

Tbf he and River were a mess through all of 11's run it's only in the husbands of River song when they spent that "night" together that they felt like a real married couple because they were together for more than a single day
I just realized: The Doctor left the diary on The Library after River's death. This is Nardole reading from the diary after the death of River. Does this mean that Nardole went to The Library and retrieved the diary from the railings? He could actually do it since he doesn't have a biological body, so won't be eaten by the creatures there.
MizuRyuu or he snuck around with time travel and got there after Ten and Donna left but before the truce with the Vashta Nerada ended.
How does Nardole have access to time-travel tho?
if River sent him to the Library, she may have prepared him for the trip.
Like give him her Time Vortex Manipulator.
We may not see it on him, but he'd have to go back in time, enter the Library at a specific time to be safe, and to get out and to when/where the Doctor and Missy are.

You hear River Song saying that to him.
I love the shift in Twelve's character after his twenty-four years with River. You can really see the impact that time with his wife had on him. The way he quotes her words to Missy and then later to the Monk is so poignant. Also, it's 100% my head cannon that since Nardole managed to get the Diary out of the library and into the hands of the Doctor that its true final resting place is in the TARDIS with the Doctor's "scartissue through [his] journey in the universe," allowing them to somewhat rest side by side.
If you're referring to the giant TARDIS graveyard on Trenzalore, that timeline was erased. The Doctor does not die on Trenzalore.

Nardole reading from River's diary is perfectly foreshadowing Missy's death.

Series 10 could have been the perfect show finale if they let it. Still, I wish they had at least let us sit on it for a minute. The way the Master was brought back (still no explicit explanation byw) and was just completely evil not even 2 full seasons later was insulting. Moffat at least waited an era and when he could use the biggest DW event to bring back Gallifrey.

for your information, river song travels on the reverse of the doctor, hence the diary, wich logs her adventures for when they meet. 10 met her near her death for it was the last time she seen him 11 marryed her after she murdered him; 11 made her murder him, cause the silence, but he hid in that robotic spaceship thing controlled by tiny people; being a time traveler is alot harder then u can imagine

@@bluehero-96 He technically was for the doctor mysteryio special. Regardless of the questionable plot, that episode did a really good job of characterizing nardole and his chemistry with 12 after he was just comic relief in the husbands of river song.

Love this clip - it's one of my favorites! I'm so glad you posted it. It really shows that even though River is technically gone from the Doctor's life, she is still remembered and still has an influence on his life. Also love the fact that she made sure that there was someone still there to keep an eye on the Doctor in her absence.
I never hear anyone talk about how good of a companion Nardol was. His chemistry with Capaldi was fantastic

She killed people that’s what she was trained to do. She understands that the universe needs the doctor to be better than that
To River it is The Doctor's job to save people not kill them. It is the job of others to do the things The Doctor must never do.

This is the closest that we'll get to seeing missy meeting river song.

1:32 It’s amazing to hear River knew about Missy and yet didn’t approved this.
I think Nardole was just saying that River wouldn't approve of the Doctor carrying out executions in general, mostly because she'd be worried about how it would impact the Doctor more so than any sympathy for Missy. If the Doctor ever got into the habit of killing to solve problems (well, got into the habit of killing beings not beyond redemption (i.e. Daleks, Cybermen, ect.)), then things could get dangerous very quickly for the universe.
Gosh I know we get a tiny encounter in The Diaries of River Song, but we were robbed of River Song and Missy meeting properly and putting the doctor on the spot together, just imagine the panorama lolz
I love how River’s shadow looms over Series 10. At this point her arc is complete and her story is over, but the events of Husbands of River Song still had a profound impact on the Doctor - that was when he learned to really be her husband, and he can’t just forget about her. Her final message to him (delivered here by Nardole) forms the backbone of Series 10’s arc and the end of the Twelfth Doctor’s journey, and it’s wonderful.

The emotion in this scene. Missy's flirt with redemption and goodness. The Doctor's sadness at the situation. The ghost of River Song looming over them. What a brilliant episode Extremis was. Just gorgeous.

Extremis was my favourite episode of the series by far - the big twist at the end was just fantastic, one of the best examples of Moffat's signature weirdness and surrealism.
You missed the "| Extremis" in the title but whatever.

Nardole was a minor character from ‘Husbands of River Song’ became companion how pointless yet confusing character plot that his head was rescued from Hydroflax, fixed onto his body and then joined the TARDIS with the Doctor on ‘Return of Dr Mysterio’ before Bill arrives was boring and does not made sense.

I've heard she's a great actor. I'm almost done with season 10 so I'm excited
We've already seen what female Time Lords can do. The Rani and Missy are both Time Lords. So was Romana. We haven't seen The Doctor in a female body yet, but I doubt it'll make much difference. The Doctor is The Doctor, regardless of gender. She's a good actress, though, so I'm hopefull that she'll make the part her own and hopeful that she'll stand out as a good Doctor.

It's such a shame that River Song herself was not in this episode. Clara cameo I get, but River should have been there over Nardole and definitely over RUSTY THE DALEK. Hmph. What a waste of time the Rusty stuff was. I do like that Nardole imitates River's accent when he reads from her diary; nice touch, that.

It feels like in an earlier draft this was going to be the Time Lords executing Missy, but then they decided against it and subbed in this random species instead.

THIS Doctor is SO underrated, that underation hits the stratosphere! The planet Gallifrey and the whole Time Lord race is severely underrated and under explored! I know if I was writer of the show, I would reveal at least a tad more about The Doctor and The Time Lords.
Afterall, they are SO above humans in terms of physical, mental and techno that they are in the stratosphere!
