Doctor Who Breaking the wall!! “There’s this emperor, and he asks the shepherd’s boy how many seconds in eternity. And the shepherd’s boy says, ‘There’s this mountain of pure diamond. It takes an hour to climb it and an hour to go around it, and every hundred years a little bird comes and sharpens its beak on the diamond mountain. And when the entire mountain is chiseled away, the first second of eternity will have passed.’ You may think that’s a hell of a long time. Personally, I think that’s a hell of a bird.”

But their memories are there and it was nice to see that his memory of her came back. But alas he accepts that she is gone as he states its a memory and I have as well. A beautiful callback indeed. And he's come from even farther than that. Compare the last companion he truly got to see off with a hug: Martha Jones (another one of my favorites).
There, he hid his face, because he was sad that he'd let her down. Not by letting her die, but by not appreciating her fully as a person.
In the time since, he has learned so much, from Eleven's companions, to Missy, Danny Pink, Osgood, Bonnie, and others.
Now, he invites the hug, and his face isn't one of sadness. He didn't let them down, even though they did die. They had full lives, and all appreciated each other, even through all the jokes. And he's finally able to let someone go, both Bill, Nardole, and himself, without regret.

Actually, the first appearance of this number in the Bible is associated with rebellion and we can see it in Genesis 14:4. It is said in the Bible that number 13 is a symbol of all governments that a man has created and that Satan has inspired....charlie burkett MUST become 14...The number 14 represents deliverance or salvation and is used twenty-two times in the Bible. The term "14th" is found 24 times in scriptures.
The fourteenth day of the first month is the Passover, when God delivered the firstborn of Israel from death. Some 430 years earlier, on the night of the 14th day of the first month, God made two covenant promises to Abraham - one of the physical seed, Isaac, and his descendants, and one of the spiritual seed, Jesus Christ, and the sons of God who would come through Him, who would shine like the stars of heaven (Matthew 13:43). On the day portion of the 14th, God confirmed the promises with a special covenant sacrifice.
"After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, 'Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.' But Abram said, 'Lord GOD, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?' . . .
"And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, 'This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.' Then He brought him outside and said, 'Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.' And He said to him, 'So shall your descendants be'" (Genesis 15:1 - 2, 4 - 5, NKJV).

Yes, because Clara and twelve actually had an inseparable bond. They were similar to each other. Together they were "the hybrid". Clara meant much more to Twelve than Bill and Nardole would have could. Even if they were nice, they didn't have the sharp mind that Clara had. And this version of the Doctor was in need of that sharp mind.

One of the things I loved about this special was how it felt like the show was questioning its own continued existence. "Do I go on, constantly changing, or do I finally bow out gracefully and let it all end?"
The other thing was how moving I found Capaldi's performance, especially here at the end. This Doctor in particular lost nearly every companion. Clara met the raven, Bill was turned to a Cyberman (and remember, he has no idea that Heather came for her at the end. Bill tells him when she meets him in the Testamony ship, but he barely listens.) and Nardole presumably lived out the rest of his life on that Mondasian colony ship. You can understand why this Doctor nearly gives in to despair.

@Stevean2 she was only terrible because Moffat ended her story early and kept her around without giving her another one. Also, once she became a full time companion, it was like Moffat gave up on her. The energy that her character had when 11 kept bumping into her in the beginning fizzled away quickly. Jenna Coleman was robbed of a wonderfully expressive character because Moffat lost interest in Clara.

His Doctor is truly underrated because of how he was able to act like a 2000 year old god who's been to the beginning and end of the universe. Unfortunately, after him leaving, things took a turn for the worst and we never saw any more scenes like this in the later seasons and maybe never will again. It's weird, because I think Clara is actually a good character, but the show bungled her, and seemed to resist showcasing the kind of performance that Jenna Coleman was good at. In Series 7, she's basically introduced as "female Matt Smith" her capacity to instantly match the Doctor's energy and even skillsets are what made her stand out, but the show got scared out that characterization .... and had nothing to give her until about the time "Flatline" came out and then went back to what her story should have been like all long, which is instead of Clara being the "normal" foil for the Doctor, Clara is too much like the Doctor, and THAT'S the conflict. That was a really interesting place to take the Doctor/Companion dynamic, and I wish that had just been kept consistent in Series 7

The 10th and the 12th doctor are quite similar. They both refused to regenerate and end up dying alone (the last thing they both see is creatures; 10th saw the Ood and 12th saw Avator versions of Bill and Nadole.) It's also snowing when they both regenerate.
When it came to regeneration the 9th doctor was optimistic about it and the 11th doctor gave straight into it, but the 10th and the 12th tried everything in their power to prevent it. The 12th doctor is basically learning from the mistakes of his past self. There are also subtle bits where they use the 10th Doctors theme with the 12th. Everything is interconnected. That's the beauty of Doctor Who.

In the novelization, upon regaining his memories of Clara, the Doctor believed that she had faced her raven in the end, but doubtless in a surprising way and with style. He also thought that Clara might have defeated that raven and eventually found an entirely different one that ultimately claimed her. The Doctor noted that Clara was "smirking as if she had, anyway."

I love the song they play here when the doctor sees Clara. It's the same song that has been played several times in the show when they displayed intense emotion between the two. Most people don't know this but the name of the song is actually "Clara". Whenever I hear the song I always remember each moment and how much they loved each other. For those that would say they were never in love. I agree they were not "in love". The love they developed for each other was well beyond any chemical "in love" feeling. They "loved" each other in the truest sense of the word.
