“And I’m still not ginger”- an excellent way to reassure the audience that it’s still the same character, always thought it was a nice touch.
I never understood if he was GLAD he wasn't ginger, or disappointed that he's not ginger.
@@minotaur8426 dissapointed.
tenth doctor says that he always wanted to be ginger because he never was ginger before in his early episodes
@@kushinasonlypans thanks!
I misheard him the first time I watched this and thought he said "I've had worse teeth" but he said "chin" indicating he still had one.
It would be kinda funny if they went back to the teeth joke there. XD
I won't rest until he's finally ginger.
my dad was a lifelong doctor who fan and while he had some qualms with the 10th doctor, he thought this scene was excellently done, specifically the "i don't want to go" line. he passed away unexpectedly this week and the hospital doctors said he fought to stay here on earth after his heart attack. he didn't want to go. this scene will always make me think of you, dad, i love you forever
So sorry for you
So sorry for your loss
You father is the Doctor!
I am so sorry for your loss may your father rest in peace
My Father and I also shared doctor who. I remember watching Christmas marathons with him, the first time I watched blink and was terrified and he told me how he and his brother used to hide behind the couch and watch. I am glad you have some memory to attach to. It makes things that’s much more special and meaningful, I am so sorry for your loss.
This was the very first regeneration scene I ever got to see as it aired, and it’s definitely one of the best. It provided such an incredible final stamp on the character arch of Tennant’s Doctor. Seeing him still have residual trauma from the Time War; to having some sense of stability with a companion he’d grown fond of, and to being all alone as a Time Lord Victorious before having his last stand. He started off on one hell of a high note, before going out in a literal blaze of glory. The fact that the TARDIS is seemingly falling apart along with him is quite poignant, a ship going down with her captain. Such an epic finale and great send off to the man who helped further solidify New Who’s popularity in the eyes of many.
Indeed.
Oh boy… might wanna take a look at the 13th’ Doctor’s regeneration.
@@Lampshade_Sam Just did. This, as well as the teaser, has me greatly excited for the show’s return next year. 😃
same with me This was the very first regeneration scene that I ever got to see when it aired
Mine was 11
Reminder: Tennent's Doctor only lived for 6 years, so it makes the line "I don't want to go" even sadder when you realize how little in terms of The Doctor's lifespan he actually lived.
well 4-5 years from 2005-2010
*Big Finish enters the chat*
@@Spongeyknight6491 well according to the doctors age, the 9th doctor was 900 as of aliens of London and for the 10th Doctor, he was 906 by the end of time, so 10 was around for 5-6 years
@@mohzayd1234 Yeah, most other Doctors have a bunch of off-screen adventures alone and/or with other companions, but in Tennant's run, we get to see almost everything he does and everyone he meets.
Him saying "I don't want to go" like that is equivalent to a 6-year-old child saying the same thing as they're dying. We wish they could have had a lot more time, we know that compared to others their life was short, and that they barely got to experience a tiny part of what we get to experience. Yet, there's nothing we can do to help them as we watch them slowly (but far too quickly) fade away in front of our eyes.
@@Spongeyknight6491 Well more than 5 years.
David's acting here is phenomenal. The raw emotion on his face and in his voice. Absolutely heartbreaking. Everything about this scene was perfect.
I know we've talked about ten's regeneration, but can we talk about how incredible Matt's acting was in this? He took this moment to establish his character, and became the doctor in a matter of SECONDS
became? he was
the day he walked in through the door to record he was the doctor
those two just incarnated the character straight up
@@justbny9278 y'know what, you're right. he IS the doctor.
That shows how talented as a actor he is, he quickly grasped the role and made you believe he is the next verison of the Doctor, his current role in House of the Dragon hasn't been to bad so far, thou he got wasted in Terminator Gynesis as a bland CGI thing posing as Skynet!
HE IS THE DOCTOR AGAINNNN
I thought it was clownish and over the top , it was the roof top speech that convinced me
And now he's BACK! Even if just for the 60th Anniversary special, to have back our most iconic Doctor is a precious gift indeed. ❤️
He’s apparently doing at least 3 specials 😎
Well well well
And all of this emotional and gravitas is diminished and the whole tragedy of the End of Time means nothing.
@@ErrantPathfinder I don't think that will be the case actually because I think 14 and 10 are not the same person, they just have the same face; he will have the same memories as 10 just like every other precious incarnation of the Doctor, but 14 in himself is a separate doctor to 10 just like every new regeneration is their own doctor as well as a continuation of the last. I hope that makes sense? In any case, what I mean is, it's great to have Tennant back embodying a new role in the Doctor, but I don't think he is necessarily playing 10 again, he just coincidentally has the same face as him. Which is good because that means 10 is still just as tragic and special as always. :)
@@layla7393 Davies actually confirmed what you said. It's an old face for the 14th Doctor but new incarnation. We won't know until the specials just how different 14 is from 10
Only David could make anyone cry with that line, "I don't want to go!"
Oh 🤔
😀😀
"He always says that" 🤣
Which David? Tennant here or Bradley in An Adventure in Space and Time?😭😉
What about Spiderman?
@@AndrewChapman Tennant obviously!
One of the saddest scenes in the nearly 60 years of Doctor Who. David Tennant is second to none in the NuWho era
Peter Capaldi, speaking with a Scottish burr: "Please, let me introduce myself..."
I was saying the exact same thing as I clicked the video
The saddest regeneration
I liked Peter Capaldi's time, although he had some terrible scripts. But DT is the best of New Who so far, only John Hurt came close as he's a full on thespian, but JH didn't get enough time to get into the role as much as DT did.
None, except Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi.
I adore how Matt had such a tough act to follow yet cemented himself in our hearts as the doctor in a few seconds. I adore DT, but man, Matt was my Doctor.
“I don’t wanna go.” Four simple words that mark Russell T Davies out as one the greatest writers of our time. So simple, so impactful, so unexpected yet so right. With those four words he made sure we all felt what the Doctor was feeling. I’ll never forget that moment, never.
Did you expect David Tennant to return? If not then you probably did forget.
I’m just kidding.
And we felt how David Tennant felt cause he really loved playing the Doctor
Lol
And hopefully his third regeneration will be him finally saying its time to go
You will never forget one line of this
This scene hit so hard because you realize the price each one pays when they regenerate. They don’t just change physically but everything else about them does. Their personalities, feelings, mannerisms, even their outlooks on life. None of them really want to change cause it’s like their there own unique souls living in the same body and when the doctor regenerates the doctor loses another soul that just wanted to live as long as they could. 😢
They are still the same person you know
@@shaochiavang yes but with a completly new body and personallity
@@Monocheto1 Can't imagine how it feels to know its you but not you. Like you are the same person but also completely different.
@@shaochiavangbest way to describe it is imagine looking into the mirror and seeing you. Then the next day you look in the mirror and you see someone else staring back at you, even though you know it's your reflection, it's not the you that you remember. Sure at the core it's still THE Doctor but with what surrounds that core completely changed.
Isn't there a line (can't remember if it's 10 or 11) that says that regenerating is like dying and quite unpleasant?
David Tennant's acting in combination with the epic orchestral music makes this the most emotional regeneration ever for me!
Weird, he looks just like the 14th Doctor 🤔
same actor
It’s a joke y’all
do you not understand jokes 😂
Thanks for the subtle spoiler
quite odd, isn’t it
This regeneration never fails to make me feel emotional... Ten will always be MY doctor.
Mine too
I don't want to go, I will always remember when the Doctor was me, Doctor I let you go, Doctor Whoever I'm about to be tag you're it.
David Tennant and Matt Smith are both supremely gifted actors. We're so lucky to have them ❤
Capaldi is above both in terms of acting
@@brobro9169 So what?
@@brobro9169 yea, and? doesn't mean he was as good of a Doctor as Matt and David
@@viper2165 They were all good
one thing I think we overlook a lot with this scene is how difficult it is to write a transition from a moment of loss to a moment of excitement without making the loss feel meaningless. We grieve the 10th's departure just as much as him, but just as easily we flow into the excitement of the 11th! It's literally phenomenal acting and writing to get that right!
I agree, we feel sad the tenth Doctor is gone, but in the end, no matter what form he takes, it's still The Doctor. Which is why whenever his new reincarnation is born, we celebrate what new personality comes to play. Be it witty, smart, inquisitive, or whatever, one thing always remains true.
*He is The Doctor.*
Can't believe this was 13 years ago. I remember being quite critical of Matt Smith in just 10 seconds of his appearance, definitely regretted that later as Matt was equally amazing.
Such a bittersweet moment in the show. The end of the Tennant era and the beginning of the Smith era. The version without music highlights David's acting as well as makes the scene so much more emotional.
I get a feeling that when the doctor regenerates into the 15th doctor instead of saying “I don’t want to go”. He’ll say something like “I’m ready to go.”
Well u were definitely wrong lol
@@nygamerforlife1991 He's more right than you may think... he says "Allons-y" which in French means... "Let's go". Which is what Ten's initial regeneration was a play on. The opposite of "Allons-y" being, "I don't want to go."
well, he said something better instead
Ood Sigma: "This song is ending."
14th Doctor: "Well, not yet..."
2010: “I don’t want to go.”
2022: “I’ve never been gone.”
1:41 I can still pinpoint the exact moment where my heart split into two watching this regeneration. David Tennant's acting skills are absolutly stellar as was Matt Smith's doctor.
The fact we may have to go through this again in 2023 is so sad.
Dude we have chance to see 10th doctor again . Be happy
Would be an amazing idea if he says "I'm ready to go" before regenerating into Ncuti

This was peak childhood . I wish I could go back to being a kid and relive this doctor who era . Honestly some of the best tv ever .
your wish came true because hes back!!
@@zainboyko1045 not the same 😂😂
It is, I'm sad there's nothing quite that good these days.
I’m gonna say it, British people really know how to make amazing tv shows.
Agreed
Probably because we don't copy them
It's all we have artistically 😂😂😂
@@guymadgesam24So true lmao
I still watch this regularly and feel every bit of pain as when it first aired. In my eyes it's the saddest moment in television, and so beautifully executed. As soon as Ood Sigma appears, and Vale Decem starts playing, I'm done for. The song itself holds so much power. There's no stopping it.
Ever since then, I've dreamt of David Tennant, RTD and Murray Gold to return. The holy trinity. It was a pipe dream!! Now it's actually possible! To think that Jodie could regenerate into David Tennant in itself is a prospect I've been dreaming of for 13 years! BRING IT ON!!!
Good guess
This aged well
@@bojingly6759 It has aged really well...
13 years of waiting complete ✔️
1:26 that scene will always break me, 10’s regeneration will always break me every time I watch it. Seeing your favourite Doctor regenerate always hurts
"This song is ending but the story never ends"
Shit, he was right
I've always loved that line.
So happy he got his happy ending after all 💙💙
He did not want to go, so in the end he didn't and stayed. I was kind of hoping he would have regular human life so he can grow old with Donna's family.
I still think this is the best regeneration scene in the entire show. The combination of the music, David’s acting, the effects and the “I don’t want to go” line make this scene impossible to beat in my opinion. What Moffat’s doctors needed 10 minute monologues to convey was done in 5 words with this one.
yep, this is how you'll make your audience never be able to forget you
Gods David Tennant is so good. Even without knowing anything about his character arc or the shit he's been through as the Doctor, you can see the moment on his face when he realizes he isn't ready to leave everything behind just yet.
Now this was one heck of a way to end a current Doctor's era and introduce the new one!
"GERONIMOOOO!!!" Never fails to send chills as a great ending scene to a DW era.
The amount I cried at the episode was immense. Every time I watch it, a little part of me cries as I still to this day miss him so much. ❤
highschool freshman me was deeply saddened by this one, I initially didn't like Matt Smith and didn't even watch until he'd done maybe 3 seasons. Tennant is still my favorite, but I did grow to really enjoy Matt's portrayal as well! now you know this
I cried too. I loved DT as The Doctor.
Me too David's doctor was my favorite
He didn't want to go, and so he stayed.
I said this somewhere else, but he got his Christmas wish. 😂
This regeneration even many years later is still very painful and hard to watch because of what happened after this. You see, Eccleston's regeneration into Tennant's was very smooth and natural, why? Because the universe was kept the same, nothing changed much if at all. Same companions, same characters, same everything, it was just The Doctor that changed. And although I loved 9 and got a little blues thinking about him in 10's first few episodes, I was able to move on quickly and accepted the new Doctor patiently. When Tennant's Doctor regenerated, it was an extremely drastic, humongous change. The show changed writers and direction and all the companions and that whole universe was gone along with The Doctor, it died and withered away instantly. This was why, even though I love Smith's Doctor to death and I always will (hope he returns for the 60th!!), when first watching him, it was so hard to accept and move on, that pace and extent of change was way, waaaaay too much at first. I was depressed for the first few episodes. It wasn't until around mid Season 5 I think I was finally moving on from 10. I got the blues so much and kept thinking of 10, and obviously his death, how nobody was there to comfort or hold him while he was dying, and that somewhere out there Rose didn't even know he was going through an excruciating death. He didn’t deserve such a brutal and cold death, man I forget how depressing and sad this show can be sometimes.
I don't think I will ever move on from 10, honestly. The radical tone shift was way too jarring to allow us to heal between Tennent and Smith and Smith definitely overstayed what welcome he had.
Proper welled up watching this on New Years day evening when it aired. Had a massive hangover from the night before, laying on the couch all day with my other half and felt emotional anyway as you do on New Years Day. Watching this departure for Tenant's doctor proper set me off! Aaaah memories!
I remember watching this episode in my grandparents house when I was fifteen when it first went out live and my heart was pounding in my chest the whole time building up to the regeneration. 😢
I don't think anyone watching this scene years later can appreciate how truly gut-wrenching it was at the time.
I hope now that the Tenth Doctor is back as the Fourteenth incarnation for the 60th specials, this gives this version of The Doctor the finality he always wanted.
He's being given another chance to do more good as the Doctor, like he said to Wilfred, possibly being able to fix what happened with Donna if he's lucky. So hopefully when it comes time for him to regenerate again into Ncuti, he'll be satisfied and will be more willing to allow himself to change this time.
Fingers crossed for a more positive regeneration.
Hopefully this time, his last words wouldn't be so sad. "I don't want to go" always made me feel his journey was incomplete
I think he should say:"Am I finally gonna be ginger?" Or,for a more sad tone:"I don't wanna go again!! LET ME STAY!!!"
Turns out the special was awful. Ruined Donna's tragic story, and Tenant was just used to push The Message not celebrate the franchise or his character.
Even the BBC said it was just an episode of preaching
This was peak Doctor Who. I nearly cried when I first watched it as a kid and I still wanna cry now. Doctor Who will never be the same
do you think his return will effect this farewell?
@@kyrowk8563 I do think it ruins it a bit.
@@Ben6164In my own opinion, this regeneration is still as sad as it was before we found out Tennant was the doctor again
Hopefully we can have another moment like this in 4-5 years with RTD at the helm again.
I'm sure 14's regeneration will be heart breaking
"I don't wanna go again! LET ME STAY!!!!"
And 13 years later, I now have closure ❤️
2010: "I dont want to go." 😯
2022: "What? What? WHAT!?" 😲
This is my favourite design of the regeneration. It just looks the most real, as if it’s fire erupting from his skin like a Phoenix being reborn
To think David Tennant was so good in the role of the Doctor that the BBC legitimately considered ending the show after his run because they thought it would fail without him.
It kind of did, the writing became worse and it lost its popularity
A huge shoutout to Murray Gold was well his music for this series was incredible especially during this scene and so many others.
This song is sooo good! I wish he came back because I really miss his work!
@@carlalopes8060hes back now moving forward!
God this was so well done. The best ending of a Doctor to the best opening scene for one. Absolutely fantastic.
“I don’t wanna go.” Four words that will always break my heart
Atleast we were spared the heartbreak of this scene in the giggle
I loved both of these doctors but David Tennant was amazing and that last line was gut wrenching.
I love Matts voicecrack when he says "LeGs".
Don’t forget “I’m a girl” as well. Dude sounds like he’s going through puberty all over again in this scene lmao
I CANT BELIEVE TENNANTS BACK ON THE SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!
'I don't wanna go' ties in so well to the fact that he eventually regenerates into the Tenth Doctor again. All the other doctors were accepting of their fate but not Tenth - so it makes sense he comes back. After all, the Doctor finds himself revisiting some of the old favourites, eh? ;)
_"he eventually regenerates into the Tenth Doctor again"_
He's not the Tenth Doctor anymore rather the Fourteenth Doctor but they are both identical in appearance.
I will say I don’t think Two was very happy about his
This scene was the best in the series, and will always be a memory to uphold. So glad to see him back as the Doctor!

The music I’ll hear in my head right before I vomit 1:57-2:08 😂😂😂
knowing that the doctor can decide not to regenerate, it shows us how strong David Tennent's incarnation of the doctor really was he didn't want to go but he used every bit of will power he had to give the torch to the next incarnation knowing it had to be done. The breathing at the end making it seem like he was building up the courage to regenerate like how we would breath when about to do something scary or painful that needs to be done.

All 10th doctor fans must be so happy after watching 'the giggle'
I love how from everything David does you can see that he is mourning the fact he leaves so soon. How he doesn’t want to go and just gives into it reluctantly.

11: “Hair,” (childlike expression) “I’m a GIRL?” I honestly love how Matt Smith portrayed his doctor because it was such a childlike wonder. even how he dealt with love when it came to River song was awkward and childlike. I enjoy watching Smith’s adventures!

I think it's a nice touch where after 11's inspection of his nose, he says, "I've had worse," which I'm sure is supposed to be a reference to the 4th Doctor. lol
3:08 the violins subtly introduce the XI Doctor’s theme gotta love Murray Gold
“This song is ending, but the story never ends” honestly i think this is so important to remember, a while back i went through a bad break up that really hit me, but you have to remember that things like that are just a single chapter in your life, just one song, and now you move on to the next song in the story of your life
Still make people cry to this day
"You'll be back one day Doctor. It'll just be the long way round".
I love how he grabs his adam's apple to see is he's a guy or not instead of the obvious place everyone else would grab

Theory why his regeneration was so destructive- because he only gets 13 regenerations before he got granted more as the 11th
So my theory is that it was so destructive because it was the last one of his original regeneration cycle
I thought it was bc he held it in for so long
