It went from fantastic (Extremis) to good or decent (Pyramid) to bad (Lie of the Land). Shame this third episode was bad or it would've been a fantastic trilogy. The Monks were defeated way too easily.

After watching Michelle Gomez chewing through the scenery imagine the fun they could have had if they'd let her lose in her own Tardis. We could have got the tales of a female time lord with a fraction of the divisiveness this last regeneration brought.
Why do I feel like we were denied a spectacular ending to the monks story? Imagine if 12 was actually under the control of the Monks (or couldn’t free himself) and Nardole (with no other choice) had to free Missy and get her help. Then we could see that she has actually changed somewhat and is willing to save the Doctor and the Earth, but has to grapple with doing to things her way (the easy way: killing Bill) or how the Doctor would approve. The conclusion we got to the monks was just so disappointing considering all the amazing setup. You know what? Reminds me of that episode with Tennant's 10th Doctor. He wanted to keep the Master in the TARDIS. Well 12th succeeded, he got Missy in the vault. The Doctor eventually got his wish granted, 2 regenerations later though.
Funny that she is playing Erik Satie at the beginning. Aside from composing music Satie was a very odd and eccentric man who amongst other things collected umbrellas. No wonder Missy liked him...
Haha this is more a insane, megalomaniac, narcissistic evil genius of a strong woman! I don't think missy is a reasonable baseline for women in fiction. Although having even 1/10th of her character and swagger would be welcome in 2020s DW. Every character in this series all added together don't come near to gomez or capaldi's portrayals. The new master was quite good but he has very little to work with; when you watch old clips and compare the dialogue the drop in quality stands out massively. I miss when the lines weren't all interchangable due to nobody actually having any personality.
@@cpf6125 This is how you make a beloved character female and keep them amazing. As you stated, Missy is all those things and incredibly funny, in depth and uses her femininity in order to gain an advantage/for comedic effect. It's honestly wonderful to behold. Whereas the new Doctor is literally a copy paste of Tennant and Smith mashed together with none of the depth. She doesn't even lean into any feminine traits, she's just... bland. If they were going to make a change on this scale to make a statement about how powerful women could be, rather than write trash politically charge plot dumps, make her character lean into those traits that would be common on a female and use them to control and win a situation. Missy is prime example of a strong female character that is strong and funny and terrifying, all while not even needing to try justify why she is a woman. The new series could've taken a large scoop of her.
Missy plays an excerpt from Eric Satie's Gnossiene No.1 (1893), an experimental piece of music played rubato (without a fixed time or pulse): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnossiennes#Trois_Gnossiennes
Something that bothers me: Missy says at 2:52 that it has to be a “properly consenting _human_ mind.” That implies that the Monks specifically target humans - which makes sense, we’ve seen stuff like that before. But if they _only_ target humans, and they take over Earth at this period in time, doesn’t that prevent all their colonies in the future from ever existing?
Am I the only one who doesn't blame Missy for her kill them suggestion? It is actually a relatively logical point. Granted ideally one would want to find a way out that doesn't include that but in some ways, it is the quickest and most effective option at the time.

@@antonk1524 yes it most definitely is.
We need a missy spin-off series NOW
You know what? Reminds me of that episode with Tennant's 10th Doctor. He wanted to keep the Master in the TARDIS. Well 12th succeeded, he got Missy in the vault. The Doctor eventually got his wish granted, 2 regenerations later though.
My favourite Master
The Shadow I don't think anyone will top her. I wish #13 would meet her.
@@chrisclark7805 I wish #13 would have never exist !...
Missy "bald bloke whole looks like an egg" = Nardole hilarious :)
"I once made a gun out of leaves." That would impress McGyver, and he's one of the good guys. All he had was duct tape and gum! 😅
Funny that she is playing Erik Satie at the beginning. Aside from composing music Satie was a very odd and eccentric man who amongst other things collected umbrellas. No wonder Missy liked him...
Gosh, I loved Missy so so much. Great Character. Does anyone know when the season 9 and 10 soundtrack come out on Apple Music?
This room reminds me of Hannibal's cell in Silence of the Lambs
"Im going to kill you, its our secret girl plan" -Winks.
THIS. This is how a strong female is portrayed
(Except graham says 'doc' at the end of his.)
@@DanIsInsane This is why Suranne Jones in 'Gentleman Jack' is my imaginary 13th Doctor
Missy plays an excerpt from Eric Satie's Gnossiene No.1 (1893), an experimental piece of music played rubato (without a fixed time or pulse):

this doctor was the best for me and i will everytime miss him
Missy looking at all the scenes she's in: I'll be stealing them
Something that bothers me: Missy says at 2:52 that it has to be a “properly consenting _human_ mind.” That implies that the Monks specifically target humans - which makes sense, we’ve seen stuff like that before. But if they _only_ target humans, and they take over Earth at this period in time, doesn’t that prevent all their colonies in the future from ever existing?
I like to think the piano wasn't there the last time the Doctor visited.
Missy should have been the 13th Doctor, she is great!
Am I the only one who doesn't blame Missy for her kill them suggestion? It is actually a relatively logical point. Granted ideally one would want to find a way out that doesn't include that but in some ways, it is the quickest and most effective option at the time.
Assuming Missy's 3 requests are related . . . I shudder to think what she plans on doing to that poor pony.
i absolutely love missy. She was amazing.
Missy and her adventures and the Doctor as a mysterious professor should've been the entirety of Capaldi's run.
