Capaldi's delivery of "I never said it was your mistake" is so heart wrenching. He really is Our Doctor. The Doctor we the fans imbued. Capaldi is truly one of us. A fan. He understands the tragedy of this tortured soul AND the endless giddiness he has! That zest for life that girds him forward. The thirst for knowledge and adventure. The need to right wrongs and save humanity from itself and whatever else dares to defy him. The Caretaker Doctor. "I never said it was your mistake." He delivers the role in that instant as if he were Matt Smith himself. He's an old soul trapped in a young body and an immature juvenile trapped in and old man's husk. The Timeless Child. Capaldi groks The Doctor and was such a treat in the role.
This was wonderfully written but the timeless child part ruined it for my personally because I can't get over it, I mean I have, but it still saddens me
"Clara, give him Hell. He'll always need it." Flash forward to Heaven Sent: "Uh... you can stop now... No really, he's good... That's plenty of Hell... Oh god..."
The funniest one is with Colin Baker's smirk (from the Dilemma ending) and than quickly has Capaldi talking to subscribe to the channel. Couldn't but help laugh of how badly edited that was to quickly use that.
I am not a good man! I'm not a bad man. I'm not a hero. I'm definitely not a president, and no, I'm not an officer. You know who I am? I... am... an idiot! With a box and a screwdriver
Orlando Soto Leyton No. It's the Doctor finally coming out of the completion of one hell of a post-regeneration crisis, and, ironically, doing it with the *help* of his great enemy, the Master! Excellent, and most Doctorly!
+0reaver01 Just a box now. I really wanna see this bite Moffat in the arse when the show makes less money from merchandising when the sonic is one of the most sold toys from Doctor Who.
hahaha hilarious. But too bad it's not a genuine friendzone - he's being an Idiot because he's obviously still pretty in love with Clara Oswald. Even here. He's devoted to her, which is like the motivation for like 75% of all his actions across series 8 and 9.
I just started watching the new Who and that seems to be how they ALL act. Each companion (except Bill because she was lesbian) was in love with the Doctor and he friendzoned them all, YET at the same time he treated them like and wanted attention from them like he was dating them. THen he gets butt hurt when they finally decide to move on romantically. I was so glad when they introduced the River character because honestly the Doctor seriously need her, not just for the girlfriend/wife aspect but also because she was such a strong woman who was more of a equal than a simple follower like his female companions.
*Spoilers! End of Season 9* So he did really fall in love with Clara. I thought at first that it was only because he felt guilty when she died but he actually really loved her more than just a friend "Clara I`m not your boyfriend / I never thought you were / I never said it was your mistake".
i agree, its obvious at the end of season nine how much he actually loves her, when she said 'we've already had enough bad timing' and tells him not to say it like he was gonna tell her he loves her and omg my heart
There's something I still wonder when looking at the 12th Doctor... How would our ol' pal Captain Jack react to that face, that familiar face... so familiar...
Part of the reminder that he is the same person as the iteration before is carrying something over. 10 carried a bit of 9's anger over losing Gallifrey, and 12 carried 11's sense of loss.
This is my favorite TARDIS interior. Altough I do also love the steampunk-y 9th&10th Doctor Tardis and the wood-themed secondary control room used for a part of the 4th Doctors run.
Capaldis Doctor was so great. He was dark, more calculated, but still heroic. He was probably my favourite even though I have loved them all in different ways
I hope he stays the Doctor for as long as Tom Baker did. *EDIT(5/03/17): This is a very old comment. I'm aware he's leaving. I'm fine with it. Excited for the future, even.*
HerityInOrder I remember after the finally where smith died, it was stated the next doctor(which is now this doctor) will be a transitional doctor, while he comes to grips with his new set of regenerations. Whether this is still the case or not I don't know, but my advice would be to try not to get too attached. The unlikability written into his character seems to reinforce that. The next season may be his last, but we will see. If it is, they better make it worth it :P
"I'm not entirely convinced myself; I think there should be more round things on the walls. I used to have a lot of round things, I wonder where I put them.." And after some time, more round things were put up on the walls beneath the catwalk section. Nice little detail.
That was the smoothest time the doctor ever activated the tardis. No sparks, no tremors/ turbulence, no explosions or shaking. Just smooth sailing. Lmao
BrotherJosephus He messed it up, though. Because of bad character development, as usual. Clara is supposed to be the one who knows The Doctor best in the whole Universe. She's been inside his timeline and met all his incarnations. Knows they're different men who are all the same inside. I didn't get her ambivalence and hesitance towards the New Doctor, and, frankly, thought it was the most careless part of the episode. I understood it with Sarah Jane and Peri Brown and Rose Tyler because they were human and attached to The Doctor and didn't know about regeneration. I don't get it with Clara. She's actually the one person who should never, ever be fazed by the fact that The Doctor's personality has changed so radically. She's the only companion who logically didn't need a call from The Doctor's previous incarnation encouraging her to accept the new one. Or she shouldn't have needed it. Plus, given her character development in the previous series, I don't see any reason why the Eleventh would see her as anything more than a puzzle. Again, I understood his infatuation and love for River and Rose completely because they were fully-fledged, 3-D characters, whereas Clara only became a character in series eight. Before that, she was only a prop ("The Impossible Girl"). So the "I'm not your boyfriend" line is jarring and a sign, again, of careless character writing.
giligara30492 As I said before, Clara seeing all his past incarnations doesn't mean much, because even when she saw all the different faces of the Doctor, and met the War Doctor and the Tenth Doctor, she always had her "Chinny" Doctor behind her. However, when the Twelfth Doctor emerged, she was genuinely shocked. She got hit hard with the fact that from now on, the Eleventh Doctor would not be for her.
giligara30492 What you fail to realize is maybe clara knows something you don't, something not tangible. The doctor got a new set of regenerations, so there may indeed be something fundamentally different. Is there a reason they limit the number of regeneration to a specific number? The fact that claire has been inside the doctors timeline, who better to help the doctor find himself again, then someone who knows as intimately as anyone what that actually means? There may be a deeper purpose to claire staying with the doctor through all this, and the master helping that happen, then we know yet.
Cryer24597 again with the trenzalore events being rewritten thing ... GUYS ... the doctor could still go to trenzalore again sometime in the future and die there! What's wrong with that logic? and why do I feel like the only one who thinks it makes sense?!! :S
Until the writing became so leaden not even an earth mover could carry it, Peter Capaldi was one of the best Doctors. And regaredless of fans issue with the character of Clara, Jenna Coleman was stunning, in all ways.
+Jafninetyfour He will return to his elegant style with a velvet coat, waistcoat and that white shirt in the remaining episodes of Series 9 (Face The Raven, Heaven Sent, Hell Bent), and he will wear his waistcoat and shirt again in the upcoming Cristmas Special.
Yea I'm more of a fan of his waistcoat. I don't particularly like it how he had one of the buttons done. It looks odd to me especially because there's no tie LOL
The one thing I HATE about this version of the TARDIS is that the rotor doesn't go up and down. It was such a timeless bit of the machine, and now it's no more...
"Clara, I'm not your boyfriend" * phone rings * "It might be your boyfriend" An episode ago: "Hello the TARDIS" "Emergency! You're my boyfriend" "Ding dong okay brilliant i might be a bit rusty but i'll glance at the manual" "No you're not actually my boyfriend"
I've heard so many people complain about the 2000 years part but it makes sense; those sort of people probably didn't pay attention to Series 6 Matt Smith's Doctor say he was 1200 years old and then he was trapped on Trenzalore for 300 years and then most likely 500 years passed when he dropped Clara back home with her Turkey.
considering the fact that the 11th Doctor was also around when he was 909 in The Impossible Astronaught that'd mean that The Doctor was the 11th for over half of his life up to this point. the 3rd Doctor claimed to be several thousand years old the 7th Doctor was supposedly 953 though in books the 8th Doctor claimed to be 1200 the 10th claimed to be 900 but there was one point where he was mentioned to have 3000 years worth of memories. but there's not really much reason for people to get so worked up about Time Lord ages. 11 himself said that he had actually lost track (just rounding to the nearest hundred on 2 occations, the latter of which he mentioned that he could be a few centuries off) and didn't even remember if he was lying about his age or not. the 13th also stated that she didn't know her age. the 5th Doctor claimed that Time Lords will always lie about their age.
I'm still waiting to see what Jodie Whittaker does with the character. Which is a shame because I think she is a decent actress, it's just the stories and writing suck. Hopefully s13 will be a change of pace
@@bruntusrex The 13th doctor (Jodie) has a delightful personality, it's just that she's not as free as all the other doctors. The writing seems to trap her in a certain place for the act. If you watched the runaway vr doctor who episode, you could see how free she was as the role of the doctor. She's able to use her personality and it's amazing. I wish the writers could write her better
Capaldi's Doctor was such a good final Doctor. He was the culmination of "the man who regrets" and "the man who forgets", as well as The War Doctor and Eccelston. After regretting for so long, and then living in a fairy tail to run from who you really are, 12 was the one who finally came to terms with who he was and became a better "Doctor of War" for it.
12 simply switching the TARDIS on says everything about his Doctor. No sudden cuts to dynamic camera angles, no sweeping adventure music. Just some flashing lights and a wave of his coat. Subtle, yet effective.
Despite Clara's comments re: the redecorations (although it's more a nod to the phrase being used in the past), Capaldi's console room additions are the best yet, especially the flashing light seen inside when materialising and there is a real 'homely' look to the room. This console room is a great homage to the past, including the console room in the 96 movie (living room look), yet is brand new. What a great scene!
Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman are brilliant! Their on-screen chemistry is just a joy to watch and I cannot wait for the next series of Doctor Who to begin this Autumn! #doctorwho #series9 (aka #series35 ) #autumn2015 #bbc #bbc1 #petercapaldi #jennacoleman
Oh mercy, there were indeed moments with Tennant, and Smith as the good doctor. By Capaldi is simply in a league of his own. Cranky? Grumpy, of course. But what made it for me: he was always relatable. And underneath there was always the punk aesthetic.
That's why I love Peter as the doctor he's dark yet can have a joke and the fact he said *im not your boyfriend* makes a big difference from the past few :')
Adzonfire Not ages. 9th and 10th doctor had same screwdriver. 11th and 12th new sonic screwdriver. Maybe the 13th doctor should have a new sonic scredriver :)
There's something about Capaldi that I always gravitate to, I can't quite put my finger on why. Maybe it's simply because of his age; taking nothing away from those who came before, but by this point the Doctor had a lot of miles on him (so to speak) and with Capaldi, he finally seemed to reflect it. And I love this version of the TARDIS.
All I've seen from doctor who are a bunch of clips I've found on RUclips the past 2 or 3 days, and still I can barely tell how much they have made me feel already
One thing they hammered home with Capaldi (especially in this episode) was that the Doctor's incarnations are partly a matter of internal expression--he regenerates as what he subconsciously wants to be. Matt Smith was a young, sexy Doctor, probably as a result of Time Lord Tennant never getting together with Rose. He wanted to be someone's boyfriend. Capaldi is excellent because he's the Doctor accepting himself as an old man. It's flipping ridiculous to see yourself as the boyfriend of a 20-year-old human when you're over 2000 years old. Capaldi, here, is realizing that he was always just pretending to be young.
As I re-watch this episode, it comes to me that the Doctor has come full circle; Capaldi, who knows this character from childhood, brings the Doctor back more like William Hartnell's original creation. "I know why I have this face...to hold me to the mark" and "I am alone" speak volumes. And Clara, the Impossible Girl, born to save the Doctor, is both confused and cross with this 'older' Doctor. The original series had friendship, but not romance; Paul McGann and Daphne Ashbrook started that in the TV movie, playing to an American audience. Thus "Clara, I'm not your boyfriend", setting himself apart from his predecessor. Yet, his 'duty of care' eventually becomes a platonic love which both will accept, and which he will later sacrifice all to maintain. They need each other.
To be honest, the doctor has always been and always will be her best friend, but you know they do open up more to each other through the series and they just get closer as friends and in series 9, they can't live without each other and it's so sweet.
***** I was debating with myself whether to reply to this, because I don't like starting arguments over the internet with people that I don't know and who I know have different opinions to myself (and that's alright, everyone can think what they want). But I would just like to point out that Rose didn't actually have much of a problem with Sarah Jane (they became friends pretty quickly when they actually talked.) Rose took more issue with the fact that the Doctor *never* mentioned her.
This scene is great. This sort of tone is what the hole episode should have had. The silly stuff didn’t work for me but the rest of the episode did. Fairly good introduction.
It took me a while to realize that 12’s “attack eyebrows” sort of makes up for 11’s “lack of eyebrows”.

You might be the first person on RUclips to use "The Timeless Child" in a way that probably won't anger every fan in existence.
This was wonderfully written but the timeless child part ruined it for my personally because I can't get over it, I mean I have, but it still saddens me
and never forget his boundless passion for making sure you dont forget to subscribe to the doctor who youtube channel
"Clara, give him Hell. He'll always need it." Flash forward to Heaven Sent: "Uh... you can stop now... No really, he's good... That's plenty of Hell... Oh god..."

Omg haha

First he friendzones her and then proceeds to be like "Hey Clara check me out" gotta love this doctor!
Everything we needed to know about their future relationship was right there in these 30 seconds lol
hahaha hilarious.
@@333angeleyes dont forget about Dona

So he did really fall in love with Clara. I thought at first that it was only because he felt guilty when she died but he actually really loved her more than just a friend "Clara I`m not your boyfriend / I never thought you were / I never said it was your mistake".
Why do you say that?
i agree, its obvious at the end of season nine how much he actually loves her, when she said 'we've already had enough bad timing' and tells him not to say it like he was gonna tell her he loves her and omg my heart

There's something I still wonder when looking at the 12th Doctor...
How would our ol' pal Captain Jack react to that face, that familiar face... so familiar...
It's Jack, he'd just kiss him. ;)
Captain Jack wasn't in that episode.
Laura Kazmer I know, did you read my comment?
I meant "The Fires of Pompeii".

Probably the best Doctor. Encapsulating the pain of losing so many over the years.
The best Doctor.
best MODERN doctor! He will never match the great one, but close!!!!
Part of the reminder that he is the same person as the iteration before is carrying something over. 10 carried a bit of 9's anger over losing Gallifrey, and 12 carried 11's sense of loss.
We all took Capaldis run for Granted I think.
He will always remain my Favourite Doctor.
my favourite of the modern era, Tom Baker will always be MY doctor!
I wish the writing was better
David Tennant is the goat doctor
This is my favorite TARDIS interior.
Altough I do also love the steampunk-y 9th&10th Doctor Tardis and the wood-themed secondary control room used for a part of the 4th Doctors run.
I swear Capaldi at the end has a Hypnotoad effect.
A start to a brilliant era. Love it.
Capaldis Doctor was so great. He was dark, more calculated, but still heroic. He was probably my favourite even though I have loved them all in different ways
2.22, the lever is pulled down, he turns around and flicks his coat open, you know it's The Doctor where that heroic music plays :)
I hope he stays the Doctor for as long as Tom Baker did.
*EDIT(5/03/17): This is a very old comment. I'm aware he's leaving. I'm fine with it. Excited for the future, even.*

I think he should go longer than Tom Baker to beat his record! 😉
If it is, they better make it worth it :P
peter is a great doctor and hope he is the doctor for a long time
I totally agree with you i love him too.....most people don't like him coz he's looks old....but i think his age adds to his to his character....

Joanne Reeve He is Genius, probably my favorite too. A fan on the show. It's amazing to see.
1:53 Peter Capaldi was born to play the role of The Doctor.
"I'm not entirely convinced myself; I think there should be more round things on the walls. I used to have a lot of round things, I wonder where I put them.."
And after some time, more round things were put up on the walls beneath the catwalk section. Nice little detail.
"Give it hell he'll always need it.."
Rich, just rich. :)
I love the smile Vastra makes when she hears the engines 💚
That was the smoothest time the doctor ever activated the tardis. No sparks, no tremors/ turbulence, no explosions or shaking. Just smooth sailing. Lmao
Thank Moff for the "I'm not your boyfriend" line.
BrotherJosephus
He messed it up, though.
Richard Smith *Clara, not Claire.
You know, it's the subtle things I love about this show. Like the fact that Clara's cardigan is covered in Bowties, because they're cool.
I wished capaldi's doctor stayed in this nice dressy way. The hoody thing is meh.
+Jafninetyfour I love that coat of his, the one with the red lining...so awesome.
Yea I'm more of a fan of his waistcoat. I don't particularly like it how he had one of the buttons done. It looks odd to me especially because there's no tie LOL
I personally like how his costume became more laid back as the seasons progressed, reflecting the evolution in his personality.
Didn't he go to and fro on those two?
The one thing I HATE about this version of the TARDIS is that the rotor doesn't go up and down. It was such a timeless bit of the machine, and now it's no more...
There's the centre bit which does, but it's harder to see.
Huh. I never noticed it. Regardless, I still miss the entire rotor moving. :(
It was removed because it kept breaking during the tennant and smith era's.
And the Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee, Baker, Davison, Baker, McCoy and McGann eras. Seriously, cool as it was that thing was a nightmare.
Personally, I like the new tardis. I love how the top part spins and when you power on the tardis, man those lights. They are beautiful.

I've heard so many people complain about the 2000 years part but it makes sense; those sort of people probably didn't pay attention to Series 6 Matt Smith's Doctor say he was 1200 years old and then he was trapped on Trenzalore for 300 years and then most likely 500 years passed when he dropped Clara back home with her Turkey.
considering the fact that the 11th Doctor was also around when he was 909 in The Impossible Astronaught that'd mean that The Doctor was the 11th for over half of his life up to this point.
the 3rd Doctor claimed to be several thousand years old
the 7th Doctor was supposedly 953 though
in books the 8th Doctor claimed to be 1200
the 10th claimed to be 900 but there was one point where he was mentioned to have 3000 years worth of memories.
but there's not really much reason for people to get so worked up about Time Lord ages.
I'm looking forward to see what Jodie Whittaker does with the character but god i'm doing to miss Capaldi, for me he is the perfect Doctor.
Rusty me too
I'm still waiting to see what Jodie Whittaker does with the character.

Not my favourite run episodes-wise but my favourite doctor + companion dynamic of all-time
Capaldi's Doctor was such a good final Doctor. He was the culmination of "the man who regrets" and "the man who forgets", as well as The War Doctor and Eccelston. After regretting for so long, and then living in a fairy tail to run from who you really are, 12 was the one who finally came to terms with who he was and became a better "Doctor of War" for it.
He was the man who accepts.
Oh look, the Doctor is finally acting his age again!
[Medieval tank/axe/guitar scene]
Nevermind.
Benjamin O'Donnell I’d like to see prev doctors do THAT, lol
they cant, theyre not ex musicians!!! Best entrance ever, not even my beloved TB could pull that off!

What an incredible redress of the coming of age trope, Capaldi played it smooth as butter.
2:48 Missy!
"I'm not your boyfriend," he says. But then their relationship evolves into something far deeper and more complex than that.
Oh mercy, there were indeed moments with Tennant, and Smith as the good doctor. By Capaldi is simply in a league of his own. Cranky? Grumpy, of course. But what made it for me: he was always relatable. And underneath there was always the punk aesthetic.

I relate to 12 on a spiritual level.
You need more round things?

OMG, 2:12
Peter Capaldi. I love all before but after the 10th series I believe number 12 is the definitive Doctor
Can’t believe it’s been 10 years since this wonderful episode
He's my favorite Doctor!
This one is the best actor of them all.
Janis Johnson no
To be honest, the doctor has always been and always will be her best friend, but you know they do open up more to each other through the series and they just get closer as friends and in series 9, they can't live without each other and it's so sweet.
As much as I love Jodie as 13, Capaldi as 12 will never be beat imo
Andrew Layton - seriously, you really believe this Jodie incarnates the Doctor well???
"Give him hell, he'll always need it."
"Run like hell, because you always have to."
This has a magic I’ve yet to find in the new series.
12 - what a total legend 👍

***** I was debating with myself whether to reply to this, because I don't like starting arguments over the internet with people that I don't know and who I know have different opinions to myself (and that's alright, everyone can think what they want). But I would just like to point out that Rose didn't actually have much of a problem with Sarah Jane (they became friends pretty quickly when they actually talked.) Rose took more issue with the fact that the Doctor *never* mentioned her.
This scene is great. This sort of tone is what the hole episode should have had. The silly stuff didn’t work for me but the rest of the episode did. Fairly good introduction.
“There should be more round things on the walls. I used to have a lot of round things.”
