@@zeno7342 that would have been the best timeline BY FAR, or SGA but Luka is probably not getting his MVP till later like Kobe. Jokic and Giannis are simply too good, its also a shame that Giannis hasn't been talked about that much as he has been also doing unspeakable things but he is in Jokic's shadow because he can't match him.
@@Nyjeezy won’t be his fault. The Nuggets front office is incompetent and the only good thing they’ve done in the past 15 years was lucking out drafting Jokic with a 2nd round pick
This dude is averaging 55/50/80 splits, a 32/13/10 triple double, 1st in rebounds per game, 2nd in points per game, and 2nd in assists per game. No one as ever done anything close to that. tbh if you takeaway all accolades and accomplishments he is literally a top 3 player ever.
It's scary to think how bad the team would be without him, Nuggets let go of all the depth that got them to a chip and gave out some very questionable supermaxes. There are so many guys on the Nuggets I've never heard of before now, that if there's anything more than a minor injury to Jokic the season's over for the Nuggs.
It's actually amazing that he's never had a teammate make an all star team. You know how mid you have to be on a 50 win team with the most unselfish superstar and greatest floor raiser ever to not even make an all star team once... It's sad how badly the Nuggets have built around him. That he's won a title is an all time achievement on its own.
we have seen worse. If you want to understand the depths of team hell Jokic was in before winning the chip, look into the season when he had austin rivers and campazzo as his play offs backcourt
@ the fact that you are talking about something you don‘t really know is astonishing. First off, Dirk doesn‘t come close to Jokic (actually watch the video). Secondly, do you want to tell me STEVE NASH 8 x All-Star (1998-2004 with the mavs), JASON KIDD 10 x All-Star (2008-2012) and Shawn Marion 4 x All-Star do not exist anymore? Lastly, Jokic has NEVER had an All-Star on his roster nor did anybody rose to that level since leaving the Nuggets. I can make a solid argument that every player leaving the Nuggets dropped his perfomance, check out KCP & Brown (not to mention other „bad“ players).
Same for Lebron too, Mo Williams was only an ALL STAR because the CAVS won 66 games in 2009, and in 2018 K.Love averaged 15ppg as a 2nd option he wasn’t an ALL STAR anymore
You didn't show one thing, despite touching the ball more per team possession, Jokic isn't close to the other guys in on ball time per possession, he's not holding the ball for 10-15 seconds every time he gets it, which is incredible.
As of 12/11/2024: Nikola Jokic is: 2nd in Points 1st in Rebounds 2nd in Assists 6th in Steals 1st in Triple Doubles 4th in Double Doubles 2nd in Field Goals 2nd in Field Goal % (min 400 att) 2nd in 3p Field Goal % 6th in Free Throw % among Centers 1st in Offensive Rebounds 2nd in Defensive Rebounds 1st in PER (all time record) 1st in Offensive Box +\- (all time record) 1st in Total Box +\- (all time record) 1st in Offensive Win Shares 1st in Win Shares 1st in Win Shares per 48 1st in Value over Replacement Player 1st in Player Impact Estimate 1st in Estimated Wins Added 1st in Value Added
If you refuse to take into consideration the Center position bias of advanced metrics, your stats look pretty good. When you normalize by recognizing that basketball is based around a Center, then Jokic's numbers are good, but Luka's are still better
Dude is a menace! I don’t know how people can say he is boring to watch. He is one of the most fun players to watch in the league, he just amazes every time.
I saw an interview of someone working at the Denver Nuggets (i think maybe it was the GM) say something like this: "We had two decent players and were trying to figure out who we wanted to make a starter, Nikola Jokic and [some other player]. We had our analysts going crazy with all kinds of metrics trying to project who would be the better investment. One day one of our guys presented the results to me with a graph showing two lines, they both started down in the left corner and went up together at the same pace towards the right corner. I asked 'So which one is which?', and the guy responded "Well this one is Nikola Jokic... and the other one is Larry Bird." It might be one of my favorite Jokic anecdotes. They were trying to figure out if he was better than some other player on the team and found out that he is probably going to have a career as good as Larry Bird.
It was the Nuggets owner. I think it was on a MPJ's podcast. There were two graphs, one of them is better (they were picking between Jokic and Nurkic). He was like okay who is player A? (better stats), it's Nikola in his second season Okay, so player B is Nurkic? No.. It's Larry Bird in his second season Yeah, that story was cold..
The way things are looking right now, it seems increasingly like the only way Luka is going to get an MVP is if they give him a pity MVP like Embiid. And I say this as a Mavs fan. Jokic is just too good.
I will always remember the craziest stat I have ever seen. In the Olympics vs the craziest team we have seen in 30 years. With Jokic on the floor with like one other NBA player he was even with the US team. 81-81. And was like 2-26 when he was on the bench.
He is by FAR the best floor raiser in basketball history. He's carried teams with guys that have no business being in the NBA. And we can't know if he is the best ceiling raiser because he's been surrounded by dogshit to mediocre talent his entire career.
OMG Yes, and nobody talks about it! I was floored just watching what the best USA team ever assembled was trying to destroy Jokic, but really ended even! He took on all his enemies! I still cant process it……
I really hope he gets a decent roster.Personally I think it's okay to be slightly bad defensively if one is this good with offence and more importantly floor raising.@@wuhanclan
@@wuhanclan Hes not just far and away the best floor raiser ever (yes that includes Lebron but he is a very solid #2), he is so good at raising the floor he had literally indirectly worsened the team he plays with by elevating players so beyond their objective skill that he has made incompetent players seem solid, thus causing Denver to sign players to wildly disproportionate contracts. What a weird phenomenon...
I’ve been saying this for awhile, and maybe I’m biased because I’m a nuggets fan, but if I could pick any player in history to add to a team. I think of Jordan, Lebron, and Jokic just because of how valuable they are to a team. Jokic just makes his teammates better and hes smart. Hes a head coach on the floor
Can we talk about Giannis being up there aswell statistically. Dude has been having one of the gratest six to seven year stretches of all time. Just happens to be at the same time as Nikola
Watching what luka and jokic have been doing to the nba the last few seasons, it makes me chuckle when people say Larry bird wouldn't be able to make an impact in today's nba because he was "unathletic". The flashy ness and athleticism is arguably the most fun thing to watch with the sport, but guys like these 3 and tim Duncan and his spurs, just bring a whole different meaning to pure talent.
@@ADUSN Which is why there's been a boom of european players dominating over american prospects. People are taught Basketball in Europe, not hero ball or a position. Wemby is averaging 6 assists in year 2 because he wasn't trained to be a center, he was trained to be a Basketball player and it's very different. imo the problem with american basketball nowadays is that's it's all about ego and being selfish
Speak for yourself, I find athleticism and flashiness boring and even off putting sometimes. A Duncan or Jokic type player based on fundamentals is more interesting to watch for me any day
We saw what he can do with some bench depth and a lil consistancy from his teammates in 2023 Give the man a decent bench or some consistant All star guard and he can absolutely win another title

@@ChuckAngelHawkit’s very hard to literally be a whole offense urself and still give high levels on defense while also play almost every min it’s just not possible
Amazing vid as always Jxmmy. One thing I would say is that Jokic's defence is being underrated still. He has obvious weaknesses as a 1on1 defender that all the others listed do not have (lateral movement, athleticism), but the reason his defensive stats are so high is because of his unprecedented basketball IQ. It means he rarely if ever ends up in those situations, it means he is a defensive floor general in ways that shaq, lebron, and eve mike never were. And this video didn't even go into the how many steals and deflections he has - he is 7th and 6th respectively, obviously elite defensive stats. It's been a long time since he was a liability and it doesn't get mentioned. I think when Jxmmy said Jokic is entering conversations some fans aren't comfortable having he didn't realize how real he was being. Everyone, including him, tries to undersell him still by any means they can. Right now its defence, the last bastion, and a good one because as has been said doesn't have many metrics that effectively track it. But like every other criticism, its only a matter of time until everyone realizes Jokic, although saddled with a few holes in his defensive game, is actually a great defender at worst, and an elite defender at best, just not an all time elite defender like some of the other guys mentioned.
@VanessosIliop.05 facts how can he be a all time great only getting to conference finals twice in 10 years? Most greats have been to the finals 3 times let alone conference finals 5 times.
We have the greatest tennis player of all time and one of the best basketball players of all time. Considering how small our Serbia is, that is unbelievable.
Serbia and Croatia, for sure. I watched a random doc on that topic not long ago. A lot of money is invested in youth sports, plus there isn't much else for kids to do.
Honestly man, it’s infuriating how good the dude is, there’s just no stopping him, his shot looks terrible and he doesn’t even have the best athleticism but he still manages to be this good and his shots just go in no matter how his shot looks lol I hate it because I’m not a Denver fan but as a basketball fan I can’t help to just be impressed, I’m glad to be able to witness it
Something to be said about great offense leading to better defense. As, better shot attempts & fewer turnovers will equate to fewer easy looks for the other team. Plus, being so offensive heavy could allow other players to focus getting back on defense after misses to prevent easy buckets.
it's just a result of the players on his team shooting a genuinely otherworldly % off his assists, which yes is a testament to him getting them open but EVERYONE on his team shooting 60%+ off an assist from him is pure luck
@@ethanbrown8226 How is that luck? It just logically can't be. No player is that consistently lucky, let alone a full team. The real answer is that Jokic is one of the greatest playmakers the world has ever seen. He puts his teammates in a position where they can shoot 60% off of an assist (and do keep in mind that Jokic gets a lot of assists to cutters and players in the dunker's spot, which is why the efficiency is so high; it's not like their shooting that efficient on jump shots alone, that would be completely unfeasible).
@@ethanbrown8226 that applies to every other on that list then, they just lucky their shots got in and their assists got in, i would say makes lebron and Jordan seem more lucky, they did it once, Jokic is doing it for the past 5 years, what is more probable? you getting lucky once, or lucky 5 years in a row?
@@ethanbrown8226 Luck? One game, maybe. 5 straight years... No way. Think about it. The reason why his teammates suddenly shoot better when Jokic is there is because Jokic's gravity creates the easiest shots ever. Most NBA players are good at finishing wide open 3s and uncontested dunks. Even good highschoolers can do that. Jokic is simply abusing the fact that basketball is played 5v5 and you can't just let Jokic go 1on1. There will be some open man always. If not, then Jokic can still finish it himself easily. There is a fact that is not much spoken. Every player who left Denver plays worse than he is supposed to.
@@ethanbrown8226 What a dumb statement lol. You clearly do not understand how a pass affects the shooter and the momentum of the game that a good pass creates.
I am so glad that Jokic is as good as he is. It is nice to have such a good player be kind and humble. He's just an all-around good guy. Nuggets front office sucks though ☠😭
they actually still have a decent team. Man im sick and tired of the glazing for one time champions, especially when they are stat merchants but cant even carry his team past.....the fucking timberwolves?!?!?! stfu bro

@@jacktheleper4468 lol if you watch actual basketball games there’s no way you can say he’s a beast on defense. Offensively yes he’s legendary. Defensively, he provides almost no rim protection, low paint protection, cannot switch onto guards, does not block shots, and is constantly being protected by guys like Aaron Gordon etc. he is not a great defensive player. He also is not great at playing the pick and roll OR pick and pop due to his lack of foot speed.
I think it's partly because basketball is not his whole world. He's there to do a job for the season, then he's back to his country to live his life. So far, it's been working great for him...
He definitely did get robbed, there was a narrative going around. Something like its racist that a white man was winning mvp a 3rd time in a row or something like that, then the numbers started shifting towards embiid as a black man watching jokic get robbed like that was disgusting
Jokic just scored 56 to the worst team in the league (Wizards). The rest of the team just shot 2/19 from 3s. You can literally see the Nuggets are doing much worse without him.
both a student and master of the game, joker has elevated his game for seasons upon seasons. truly witness his greatness and don't take his game for granted. appreciate it if you don't already. he's becoming a legend by the second and has done things no other has. otherwise, you would be...as folks like to say...a casual. don't be a casual.

I think he works hard too. 3P percentage won't become 50% randomly. He just fixed it. The best part is that the defenses still can't afford hard closeouts to a 50% shooter.
As a baseball fan, it's really funny seeing that advanced basketball metrics undervalue defense, when advanced baseball metrics do the opposite, giving a lot more value to defense than most fans, even listing poor hitters with great defense as some of the best players on their team.
And both groups of fans don’t think these advanced defensive metrics value defense enough. Although I will say in Baseball it’s way easier to account for defense because you can analyze every physical aspect about a player plus they all play. Specific defensive position that can be quantified in its significance. In basketball you have to rely a lot on box score numbers, the on-off splits, or the eye test to rate a player’s defensive value. Jokic is kinda in weird place because all the metrics say he’s a fairly positive defensive player but most fans don’t want to accept that because of his poor rim protection.
Jokic truly embodies what it means to be a valuable player. I recognize that various factors influence the selection of the league's MVP, with team standings often playing a significant role. However, this raises the question of whether there should be established criteria to determine what is considered important for an MVP.
The thing is value doesn't go a certain way You can be valuable in your own way and that's why in many seasons the MVP could have gone to several guys Offense is defined Defense is defined Value is not
@@EricLonghini Don’t know about that. What is a fact is, none of joks teammates have ever been allstars or active allstars. Jamal is/was the closest one but he is incredibly inconsistent. And now he is not playing the part of “team work”

I think it's important to keep in mind though Jokic has been this good for the past 5 years, his team is just so bad he's taking even more offensive responsibility. That's why the season they won the ring his regular season stats were worse but the team was better.

@@brainlesscactus3184 Giannis is having a great season. Jokic is having one of the best season a player has ever had. This has been Jokic's most impressive season in his career. It says more about Jokic than Giannis when we compare their stats and even performance in game. Jokic is legitimately carrying the Nuggets.
I think the biggest problem with Jokic is the same problem Tim Duncan has had his entire life... The lack of athleticism just doesn't 'Wow' anyone. Also he's a one of one type player. Great in every category. So it's impossible to sub someone in to replace all his abilities. That pushes his plus minus category into some crazy statistical areas.
Jokić's offensive dominance is undeniable, and he's in rare air when it comes to basketball IQ and team impact. But the debate about whether he's at the level of Jordan or LeBron will always circle back to defense. Is an all-time offensive peak enough to overlook being 'just okay' on the other end? The stats might lean yes, but the eye test still leaves some room for debate.
Not anymore, you just need volume of possessions. Westbrook, Luka, Lebron, Jokic, Lamelo, even Giannis could do it if he wanted. A triple double isn't what it used to be, but it's still impressive.
I love the opening of your vids man. Those charts going through legends and then the “until the guy the videos on blah blah” idk why it’s just super interesting and it’s a great way to kick off videos like seeing how much higher Jokic is on that chart. Keep up your work every video is super high quality
I think two reasons that make him this good is because Jokic can play both point guard and center, and because now is small ball era which make his size is much bigger for outside defend also.
As a Kobe fan, I got MJ from 88-93, Shaq from 98-01, and Kobe from 06-09 as my greatest peaks of all time but bro Jokic is nuts as hell, seeing that dude torch my Lakers every single damn time hurts my soul but I can't help but respect the man, dude is just that damn good, the only time I had this type of feeling on another player was Steph in 2015-2017 and LeBron from 2012-2014 and that's an elite group to be with if I do say so myself
@YEGGS_1 You might be dreaming of avging 50 with not much shooting ability. This is a softer physical league. Some ot Shaqs NORMAL plays would be flagrants in this day and age. He is not averaging 50 because he will not be allowed to be as physical as he was in the late 90s and early 2000s. The refs would never allow it. He is a huge offensive threat but he can't be throwing elbows the way he used to. Again, Shaq would be thrown out due to his physicality. Joel Embid is a SOFTER version of Shaq but with better shooting ability and never averaged above 30. Shaq himself never averaged 30 and you saying he's going to add 20 points when he can't be as physical and can't spr3ad the floor and pass? Come on.
Inefficient and not even close as valuable as Jokic. Just has to carry the load of KD leaving and got a lot more shots. Maybe the most overrated season ever, brought up by him getting the triple double avg and media hyping it up. Efficiency is key.
highest production quality of any video you've ever made, in terms of the video itself. I think the taking away the 3 ball, adding the 4pt line, and comparing players to LeBron are the highest production effort videos because of how long it takes to sort through that data, but this one has the highest quality
I think it is now time to give this man his flowers, I get that he is nowhere close to being the all time goat, but since this man joined the league in 2015, and 2018 onwards, this man is ripping all major and minor statisting apart
Love this. As a life-long Nuggets fan.....Jokic is to the Nuggets what Elway was for the Broncos.....Sakic to the Avs, etc. The more people hate on him for his style of play, the more I love and appreciate him. It's a breath of fresh air against the predominant trend that has plagued the NBA for so long.
It's crazy that you'll probably be able to put Joker into GOAT conversations when it's all done and dusted, and most likely hardly anyone is gonna agree that he belongs there
there are simply preferences in these kinds of things, for example kobe truly had off nights and games with terrible efficiency but i grew up watching kobe and most of us as kids shouted "kobe" when we took a shot and for some he will be goat no matter what happens, thats why mj and lebron will keep the top 2 most likely forever for most americans even if jokic ends up having better everything and thats totally fine. its a similiar thing in tennis where everyone loved federer and once nadal and djokovic started racking up numbers people started to bash on them to keep federer on top (even though realistically both nadal and djokovic had way tougher opponents than federer), and then once djokovic surpassed both now those fans turned against djokovic to keep him from goat conversation even though he literally has 99 out of 100 stats and acomplishments in his favour over the other 2, and one that isnt is that he didnt win as much on clay courts. who cares about stats if you dont like how somebody plays, it makes sense. for me the best football player is philip lahm and no one can change my mind, i dont care what acomplishments others had, he did his job perfectly at his position and thats what matters, its a team game.
@@heinrichollbers No, it's because the NBA is going through a transition period, the game is almost unrecognizable from the past to the point it can't really be compared. Comparing metrics across eras just doesn't work when you factor in the style of play and rule changes to make scoring easier. Now bigs can't camp the paint and defend for an entire possession, so obviously almost all stars of the modern era are highly efficient inside the paint. Advanced metrics are flawed, from PER to DBPM to OBPM. It doesn't take anything away from Jokic, it's just the truth. No real fan is going to argue that we aren't in the most offensively inflated era since the 1960s, so we have to contextualize that when examining Jokic. With that said, Jokic IMO is still easily top 20 all time right now, and by the end of his career can possibly get into the top 10-who knows. He needs to win at least 1 or 2 more titles, preferably without another All-NBA player beside him. If he can do that, guys like KD or Curry have zero argument over him. But going based off advanced metrics, players like Kobe, Nash, Klay, and Hakeem are hilariously misrepresented, and that's because advanced metrics don't factor in the many aspects and nuances of the game that make a player or a team function well. To use Kobe as an example, fans like me watched '08 Kobe lead a Lakers team with Odom, Fisher, and a 20-year-old Bynum to the #1 seed in the West BEFORE Gasol ever got there. This was the peak of the West, where every playoff team had 50 wins and was filled with all-stars, current and future MVPs, and Hall of Famers. The closest thing to what Jokic is doing this year is Kobe in 2006, when he led the Lakers to a 45-37 record while posting the highest pace-adjusted scoring season in NBA history. He also carried the heaviest load since Jokic 2024-25. Kobe still has the highest on/off offensive numbers of all time that season. This was a Kobe, BTW, who posted the highest PPG since '87 MJ and was also All-NBA 1st team defensively. Right now, the Nuggets are a 12-10 team and 7th in their conference, and people want to crown him as MVP a quarter of the way through the year. The NBA went from never valuing stats too highly, always putting team performance as the priority. To now, we have MVP frontrunners who aren't even top 6 in their respective conference. This wasn't a thing until 2017, when Westbrook won the MVP with a team record of 47-35 as the 6th seed in his conference. The NBA as a whole is just moving in a different direction. Previous players were punished for past criteria, and now things have changed. But the crux of the issue is that if you went by advanced metrics, nobody is even close to Jokic as an individual player, and we all know that isn't true. Similar to 2017 Westbrook, we need to discuss the issues with many of these advanced metrics that are clearly flawed.
If he wins his 4th mvp alongside his 2nd ring and fmvp, also considering this season as the best statistical season of all time, I think it's fair to put the Joker in the top 8-10 greatest players convo.
i personally say one of the best peaks in modern NBA history have to be James Harden from 2017-2020. Harden was undeniably one of the best and he was putting up unreal numbers like never seen night in and night out
Something important to note for Jokic is his defense isn't bad at all, it just looks sloppy with the eye test on a bad night. Considering he's still getting steals and blocks (tied at 13th in NBA on SPG currently with 1.8 SPG, top 3% in the league, and tied at 80th on BPG currently with 0.7 BPG, top 15% in the league) each game at a consistent rate among everything else, he is actually defensively doing something and impacting the game there fairly well. It's just his blocks stat that is at or below avg at its' worst. Odds are though, you're not going to have a guy with HIS level of sheer game impact go 110% on defense though. In the past, you could be more physical with your defense, especially 90's era basketball or earlier, what with hand checking amongst other things being legal. Nowadays, you've gotta be softer on defense, it's no secret. Jokic is big and a good barrier, but slower than either a nimble guard that's considerably smaller than him or a player that's lower in weight. Ideally if I were coach (and I'm guessing this is the Nugget's plan too), I wouldn't force him to exert too much energy on defense to risk him losing excess energy, and so he doesn't risk getting fouls since everything-- LITERALLY EVERYTHING-- relies on him offensively. Defend the stuff you're confident you can stop, play it safe on defense for the things that catch you out or don't bite on the opposing player too much, that's probably the best thing Jokic can do.
Jokic is so much better at defense than most people think... incredible hands (gets a ton of deflections on passes, strip blocks), blocks out and has great rebounding instincts (ending the possession), is more nimble than you think and can use angles to keep a scorer in front, and most importantly, often knows where a play is going to end up. He can definitely get embarrassed in certain situations against certain players but even against those guys, he's usually able to push them towards another defender or to delay until help arrives, allowing him to really limit those weaknesses he has.
He's absolutely not horrible at man defense. Guys like steph, Jalen Brunson, sga, etc sometimes absolutely burn him and make him look silly. But those guys do that to everyone and I'm not saying jokic can singlehandedly really do anything great on defense. However, he's so good at anticipating where a play is going, he's almost always in the right position. Even against those scorers, he's great at using angles to push them a certain direction in order to pass them off to another defender or put himself in a position to contest. Meeting someone at the rim? Not good there, but he usually can see the play happening and meet those drives before his opponent leaves his feet to minimize his poor rim defense. The nba isn't played 1-on-1, his communication is incredible (he calls out the other team's plays and can tell his teammates where the ball is going to end up) and he's even able to bait turnovers with his positioning (something only great defenders can consistently do). So again, yes, he has weaknesses, but he more than makes up for those weaknesses by thinking ahead and being in the right position way more often than not. There's a reason his teams have been better at defense with him on the court.
15:25 if Lebrons team was second rate then Denver has been 3rd rate and he gave them a ring, 0 all stars except for him never done before, and probably never will be. That is more impressive than any other player carrying any other team.
you jokic fans love to change history. nobody on 07 or 18 cavs had jamal murrays numbers in the 2023 or even 2020 playoffs. stop trying to gaslight in order to make your guy seem better
@goodguyscomelast2029 so is Jokic supposed to beat more 50 wins teams in a single playoff, then Lebron in a decade? How is that possible unless Lebron never qualifiers?
gotta give some respect to this man, Jokic is the mvp this year, but i’m talking about Jimmy and how his videos have been peak content for us basketball fans for years! appreciate it man
That is why Jokic is my #1 pick in Fantasy. The dude is consistent and can give you solid numbers night in and night out. He is now up there in the greatest center and player ever conversations. Great video as always, Jimmy!
As a proud Serbian guy, this video made me shed a tear. What an absolute basketball legend, we shouldn't take his peak for granted. Phenomenal video Jimmy 🥲
I watch every video you post, not because I'm a basketball fan - I've never watched a game in my life. But the quality of the content is so good, and so engaging, I click every time. I've watched nearly everything on the channel. And... wait, am I a basketball fan now?
My guy do u know how good and impactful tracy mcrady was, the guy was one man show, his playoff success was usually poor luck or poor supporting cast, kobe even said tracy was the toughest player he ever gaurded.
The nuggets are wasting him. He’s in year ten and has never had an all star teammate yet he still has a chip. That’s something none of the greats can truly say while putting up these numbers
I agree. 100%. But then I ask myself, who has a game that compliments Jokic? Denver has high percentage spot up shooters. They have good slashers (especially Braun). I guess you could pick up better shooters. However I see the Denver offense as a “pick your poison”. Best you can do is make the man guarding the worst shooter double… maybe he needs an elite wing defender? I don’t know. He’s certainly a 1 man show. Murray has regressed MPJ is inconsistent… Braun is the most improved on the team.
If they traded jokic to another team and started rebuild, which team has a treasure trove of assets for jokic trade? Probably only OKC or Rockets have that much asset for trade. Imagine Jokic trade to OKC Thunder.... well it's over for the rest of NBA.
@@Sleepy4213 If they could get him, which they can't, I think a player like Jalen Johnson would be the perfect player to play next to Jokic. All around talent who can do a little bit of everything who is wildly athletic where Jokic isn't. Honestly, I feel like Jokic can play with basically any archetype of player, he just needs more talent.
Don’t underrate the 2023 nuggets, they might not have had any other future hall of famers on the roster but it was one deep team with a perfect system for jokic to be him, far from the second rate team you’re making it out to be
After watching this video what Jokic is doing further lets me know how fans and media often develop a loyalty to the "established" style of play or personality in sports, which makes it hard for them to appreciate something new or different. If we use the case of Michael Jordan vs. LeBron James, it’s clear that their styles are drastically different. Jordan embodied the classic alpha scorer, a fierce competitor, and the prototype for how the game was played in the '90s: isolation-heavy, driven by athleticism and a win-now mentality. LeBron, on the other hand, introduced a more complete, multifaceted style - one that focused on versatility, basketball IQ, and being a force in every aspect of the game, from scoring to playmaking to defense. When it comes Jokic, a 7-foot center with elite passing and rebounding, there’s a similar issue: he's changing the narrative of what dominance in the game can look like. Instead of the prototypical super-athletic center or power forward (like Shaq or Duncan), these players are more skilled and cerebral, not necessarily relying on athleticism alone but a broader skill set. Fans and media often have a hard time appreciating these types of players in the moment because they're used to a different standard. Historically, greatness in the NBA has been defined by more traditional styles of play, and it’s tough for some to fully embrace players who push those boundaries until they’ve had time to build a legacy. Just as LeBron's greatness was debated for years until his sustained success became undeniable, it may take time for fans to come around to these new, evolving styles of play, but in time, they'll likely gain a greater appreciation as the next wave of talent comes and comparisons begin to be made. It speaks to how sports fans often resist change and how greatness, in any era, can sometimes only be fully appreciated once the player’s career is over and the landscape shifts.

I saw an interview of someone working at the Denver Nuggets (i think maybe it was the GM) say something like this:
"We had two decent players and were trying to figure out who we wanted to make a starter, Nikola Jokic and [some other player]. We had our analysts going crazy with all kinds of metrics trying to project who would be the better investment. One day one of our guys presented the results to me with a graph showing two lines, they both started down in the left corner and went up together at the same pace towards the right corner. I asked 'So which one is which?', and the guy responded "Well this one is Nikola Jokic... and the other one is Larry Bird."
It might be one of my favorite Jokic anecdotes. They were trying to figure out if he was better than some other player on the team and found out that he is probably going to have a career as good as Larry Bird.
That was Nugget's owner talking on MPJ's podcast. At least that's where I heard that anecdote.

Something to be said about great offense leading to better defense. As, better shot attempts & fewer turnovers will equate to fewer easy looks for the other team. Plus, being so offensive heavy could allow other players to focus getting back on defense after misses to prevent easy buckets.
8:10 I had to pause the video and lean back in my chair for that one... that's just... absurd... wow! 🤯
it's just a result of the players on his team shooting a genuinely otherworldly % off his assists, which yes is a testament to him getting them open but EVERYONE on his team shooting 60%+ off an assist from him is pure luck
Jokic is simply abusing the fact that basketball is played 5v5 and you can't just let Jokic go 1on1. There will be some open man always. If not, then Jokic can still finish it himself easily.

And both groups of fans don’t think these advanced defensive metrics value defense enough. Although I will say in Baseball it’s way easier to account for defense because you can analyze every physical aspect about a player plus they all play. But the debate about whether he's at the level of Jordan or LeBron will always circle back to defense. Is an all-time offensive peak enough to overlook being 'just okay' on the other end? The stats might lean yes, but the eye test still leaves some room for debate.
A boring debate, sure
averaging a triple double is crazy
I mean Russell Westbrook has averaged a triple-double in 4 regular seasons already.
Not anymore, you just need volume of possessions.
Westbrook, Luka, Lebron, Jokic, Lamelo, even Giannis could do it if he wanted.
A triple double isn't what it used to be, but it's still impressive.
@@noelramirez1551but Jokic is doing it on insane efficiency.
@@CoachOutah I know, i was just saying he averaged 4 and it's still hard regardless.
As a center might I add.
Always a good day when jimmy posts
I love the opening of your vids man. Those charts going through legends and then the “until the guy the videos on blah blah” idk why it’s just super interesting and it’s a great way to kick off videos like seeing how much higher Jokic is on that chart. Keep up your work every video is super high quality
I think two reasons that make him this good is because Jokic can play both point guard and center, and because now is small ball era which make his size is much bigger for outside defend also.

even Westbrook waiting at the 3 was like "yep, that'll do" 🤣
As a Kobe fan, I got MJ from 88-93, Shaq from 98-01, and Kobe from 06-09 as my greatest peaks of all time but bro Jokic is nuts as hell, seeing that dude torch my Lakers every single damn time hurts my soul but I can't help but respect the man, dude is just that damn good, the only time I had this type of feeling on another player was Steph in 2015-2017 and LeBron from 2012-2014 and that's an elite group to be with if I do say so myself
Well said
Shaq peak was 1999-2002 in my opinion, won FMVP in 2002

1993-97 Hakeem Olajuwon.
Come on.
Just a perfect time to watch after a long day

Jokic is basically my 2K create-a-player every time I've made one
Jmxy you said it best at the beginning "eyes can be deceiving". He doesn't fit the stereotype. But he's the most effective for sure.
2017 Westbrook was something I can never forget
The difference is Jokic is actually efficient.

Not done with the vid yet, but 8:15 floored me. Laughing out loud like a child.
It's a breath of fresh air against the predominant trend that has plagued the NBA for so long.
yep
Jxmy has returned with another banger

It's crazy that you'll probably be able to put Joker into GOAT conversations when it's all done and dusted, and most likely hardly anyone is gonna agree that he belongs there
It’s because he’s white and he’s european
there are simply preferences in these kinds of things, for example kobe truly had off nights and games with terrible efficiency but i grew up watching kobe and most of us as kids shouted "kobe" when we took a shot and for some he will be goat no matter what happens, thats why mj and lebron will keep the top 2 most likely forever for most americans even if jokic ends up having better everything and thats totally fine. its a similiar thing in tennis where everyone loved federer and once nadal and djokovic started racking up numbers people started to bash on them to keep federer on top (even though realistically both nadal and djokovic had way tougher opponents than federer), and then once djokovic surpassed both now those fans turned against djokovic to keep him from goat conversation even though he literally has 99 out of 100 stats and acomplishments in his favour over the other 2, and one that isnt is that he didnt win as much on clay courts. who cares about stats if you dont like how somebody plays, it makes sense. for me the best football player is philip lahm and no one can change my mind, i dont care what acomplishments others had, he did his job perfectly at his position and thats what matters, its a team game.
@@heinrichollbersbullshit

1,000% yes. Jokic is on another level this year. He’s even better than he was last year.

That Minnesota Loss in second round did something to him
Something important to note for Jokic is his defense isn't bad at all, it just looks sloppy with the eye test on a bad night.
They can't risk Jokic to get early fauls that's why he sometimes not even contest some shoots..That's not a secret they told him to play that way
Ya it'd be interesting to see Jokic have a superstar next to him to take off some offensive weight and see how he does defensively
Jxmy with another banger 🔥
Jokic is so much better at defense than most people think... incredible hands (gets a ton of deflections on passes, strip blocks), blocks out and has great rebounding instincts (ending the possession), is more nimble than you think and can use angles to keep a scorer in front, and most importantly, often knows where a play is going to end up. He can definitely get embarrassed in certain situations against certain players but even against those guys, he's usually able to push them towards another defender or to delay until help arrives, allowing him to really limit those weaknesses he has.
Jokic is good at deflections but hes horrible at man defense. Players shoot better than their average with him guarding them.

It says peak. Meaning individual career, not team success.

Jxmy is the best statistical analyst on the planet....EVER! Love your work man!
