The Price is Right 99 Year Old Contestant

- This aired 11/11/03...I won't give out any spoilers if you haven't seen it. I've never seen Bob treat a contestant with such dignity & respect. The game they play was timed & in there was one moment where Bob told him the timers broken today I'll help you with number placement!!!
Quick thinking!!! Развлечения
I love how when Bob announces the timer is "broken" the audience starts cheering. Most of them knew what was going on at that moment and played along. Class act by everyone in that studio.
@BourgProductions What about Bonkers?
Baby Billy's Bible Bonkers? @@ABCEasyas--
This whole video restores my faith in humanity beautiful gestures all the way around 💜💜💜
"They usually have a time limit on this, but unfortunately, that's not working today. So there's no time limit, you see." Bob treated this man like any other elderly person should be treated, and it was also nice how Bob did the blocks for him.
Not all elderly deserve to ve treated with kindness and respect
@@jacintaluppino9758 And why is that? EVERYONE should be treated with respect and kindness, even if that other person has a shitty personality.
@@ddmck1972 no. If someone doesn't give respect to me, im not wasting my time giving it to them
I was at one of Bob's last tapings... The way he interacted with the audience was truly genuine... instead of taking a break during commercials, he stayed out onstage and let the crowd ask him questions... and had to turn down a hot 18 year old blonde proposing to him haha! Classic! Bob is a true class act! I wish there were more Bobs!
Such Respect of Bob Barker to help this Contestant since he was 99 RIP Bob Barker he lived to be 99 himself!
Mr. Barker was so courteous and respectful dealing with this elder gentleman. So nice how he pretended the timer was broke, helped him put in the cubes, and that gracious military officer, spinning the wheel for him!
Yes he was. It's to bad he didn't win anything.
Bob has always been a class act
@@tonyp9313 You cant pretend to be 99 years old
@@tonyp9313 I’m saying he wasn’t helped because if a disability. There have been people in wheelchairs and he didn’t give them any advantage. He was just being nice because he was older fellow
Agree 100 percent. And that military guy stopping at 55 cents, I kinda suspect he stopped there to give the old guy a fighting chance of making it to the showdown.
Bob was raised in an Era when people respected the elderly and it clearly shows here.
Bob was raised in an era where elders were hardworking, moral, and deserving of respect. Now we have to deal with the world's worst generation, the baby boomers.
That doesn't explain the younger man who offered to spin the wheel for James.
@@uraldamasis6887 You’ve spent way too much time on social media.
@@triple7marc Yeah he definitely has lol
People really need to stop normalizing the generational shit talking. You clearly don't know anything about younger generations if you think this type of respect is a thing of the past. I was raised to respect my elders and I've taught my kids to do the same. If younger people aren't respecting their elders, it's on the parents to teach them.
Wow, the respect Bob and the audience had for James is so rare these days.
I'm sure on the one hand, it was a thrill for Bob to have a contestant older than him. And plus like I said before, he knew full well how elderly people should be treated with respect.
@@leandar I like seeing that too. I remember seeing this in my kitchen the day this aired and I'm glad James got to be on Price and Bob was so classy to him.
So sweet of Bob. Hard to believe that now he is almost 99.
RIP Bob Barker, glad he made it to 99 himself
@@JC-wn3ig Me too. He was the BEST.
@@JC-wn3ig Wish he could have made 100. It's just a great number to end on.
It honestly is an honor to have the same birthday as James...
RIP, James. You were an amazing contestant. Fly high with the angels.👼👼👼
He died?! 😢
@@tiffanymorgan6562 this episode aired in 2003 with him being 99 turning 100 in April 2004, he would be turning 116 this year so it's very likely he didn't make it to 116
@@tiffanymorgan6562 just looked him up, he died April 1st 2007 at the age of 102
@@tiffanymorgan6562 no. he's 116.
@@GameparkGames God bless James!!!😍❤
And to think...Bob Barker _lived to be_ 99 years old! 😮
It said this man made it to 102 and almost 103. Thankfully James had a long long life.
James G. Smerdon
April 24, 1904 - April 1, 2007
That's what his obituary said. So officially, he was 102 when he departed from the world.
I saw this first hand on TV almost 20 years ago, and it still brings me to tears. It hurts more now that Bob Barker passed away. A WWII Veteran helping another. Part of "The Greatest Generation". A connection to your grandparents and great-grandparents in some way. I salute you sir for everything you done. You made mine and many other childhoods brighter all those mornings in the 1970's, the 1980's, the 1990's and 2000's while we were watching being sick from school or on vacation. God bless you sir. Thanks for the memories and the joy you brought over all the years.
I saw this the first time on TV just like you
1904...
WWI, WWII, Korea, Nam, Gulf Storm, War On terror.
His dad was probably in the civil war!
INSANE!
I doubt his dad was in the civil war, he’d have to be born in 1842 or so at the latest..
@@PrevailingFreedom yeah I was stupid 8 years ago lmao.
@@TheRealerArbor Probably not his dad but grandad was alive at that time in 1842
Barker was so respectful to this gentleman 🥰 What a class act!
That was really cool that they eliminated the time requirement of the game for James (told him a little white lie about the timer being broken, which he even seemed to chuckle at, figuring they were giving him some extra courtesy).
Good courtesy!!! I've seen it done with contestants in wheelchairs.
MystikWizard i believe the only reason Bob lied about the timers being broken it was based on his age and/or ability to move around for this pricing game.
@@vietpir Of course that was the reason they did that.
They did something similar with a contestant in a wheelchair, except in that case the time was upped to 45 and the model put the cubes in.
How about they eliminate the timer for all contestants? How about that idea.
Crazy how they had a 99 year old contestant on the show...and then Bob passed at 99. RIP Barker
This contestant celebrated his 100th birthday on April 24, 2004, and was 2 decades older than Barker.
Is he still living???
John Johnson Nope, he passed away in 2007
@@kitarofan87 At least he lived to see 100 years young. Good for him
This brought tears to my eyes. I never had grandfathers of my own since they both had passed away before I was born. I would love to have a grandfather such as James.
Great Young SERVICE Member Helping the elder Gentlemen We could use more of him these Days 🙏🍁🙏
Semper Fi!!
Bob Barker is the best gameshow host EVER. He will always be the MAN, plain and simple. Ask Adam Sandler how badass he is...
I really felt bad when James got 0 on Switcheroo and when he overspun the big wheel. But his trip to the show was a once in a lifetime thing.
Even if Mr.James didn’t win much I could tell he was simply happy to be there and he had a smile on his face nearly the whole time, bless his heart ❤ he had so much fun
Speaking as a former contestant, I'll tell you this much - getting called down is an ethereal experience. Getting up on stage, even moreso. At that point, winning anything is just icing on the cake.
They should have Bob as a contestant when he gets to 99.
Brendan Lucas *IF
He's getting close
Yeah, he's getting there. He's 93 at the moment.
I was expecting him to still be hosting at that age
BrendaN Lucas he’s 95
Bob truly is a class act, very respectful.
That was so sweet of Bob for no time limit and helping James place the numbers! RIP to both!💕
The quip about the Switcheroo timer being broken is the sweetest thing I've ever heard in my life. |3
So sweet!
y'all know…if someone had bid $801 to James' $800 they would have been booed so hard...
I would bid 50 to 100 more than him... I wouldn't do that
Bob would boo that heartless asshole who did such a thing as well.
I booed everyone who bit a dollar more than the other person. I don't think its fair to do that. They can at least bit $20 more.
@@rikanejose2611 Well you shouldn't be booing them. They have a right to do so it's in the rules. What you should be focusing on then is to boo the Price is right to be making said rules.
From the way he spoke and moved, 99 was quite apparent. But not from the way he looked! His skin was incredibly smooth for someone of such advanced age.
They need to do a price is right special when bob turns 100!
Bob is teary eyed on that contestant
I love how everyone was so kind and helpful to him.
I think it was great that he got to be on the show. My grandma lived to be 99 and a half years old and watched The Price is Right almost every day!
what a great way to be remembered!
This is the best thing Mr. Barker had ever done for a contestant. It was really great for James at 99 yrs. old to be great at that age. God Bless him.
Nice the way Roger & Bob handled this.
Love the respect Bob is showing this contestant.
Its even crazier because Bob is almost 80 when this aired as well
The coolest is that Bob Barker himself is now 99 years old!
I love the way that Bob spoke to the man the way that you would speak to any other adult instead of the baby voice that so many people use with the elderly.
It's called respect.
Wild that Bob would ultimately pass away at 99 years old.
You look in great shape.
Man, Idgaf what you have at that point - cancer, dealing with a stroke or heart attack, whatever. If you're ALIVE at 99, you're in great shape lol, most people be pushing up daisies at that point!
RIP Bob Barker you passed away at 99 years old. You will be really missed. The Price is Right.
I know. RIP Bob and this contestant James.
My heart is so happy!! Precious little man and kudos to how the game was “broken” !!
Bob Barker and DuShawn are true class acts, Barker giving him all the time he needed in Switcheroo and helping him with the # placements, and DuShawn spinning the wheel for him, we need more class acts like them in this world! And of course, the audience was all class too, I've never heard cheers that loud for a contestant coming down in a long time. Imagined if he won the car, the Showcase Showdown & the Showcase, the crowd would've been uncontrollably wild!! Would've been a tremendous sight!!
I'm so glad i was able to watch this moment.....it's just cool and gives me some hope for humanity.
I agree. Barker was always so gracious.
This put a huge smile on my face
He makes Bob look like he's 30
not really, Bob looked older than he did
Bob is only 2 years away as of 2021 to James age in this clip, hope his assistance staff treats him as well as he treated James here.
Its crazy to see the car he bid on versus cars in 1904 when he was born, all in one life time
I think it's cool that one of the other contestant offered to spin the wheel for him.
Respect to the first contestant on the wheel on volunteering to spin for him in understandable circumstances.
Epic respect for that old man, certainly can't be disputed in the end run.
I cried a little on this clip because of Bob being very classy right here during the Switcheroo game. I am proud of Bob Barker. By the Bob happy 89th Birthday in advance.
His face could easily pass as a guy in his 70s.
now Bob Barker himself is 99 years old, it's May 2023.
James was the oldest contest on the price is right I hope to see a 100 year old on the price is right maybe it will be me if the price is right is still on the air in 2076.
i will be 100 April 15th 2103 but i have 29715 more days till im 99 30324 More days till im 100 also the Price is right will probably never end there might be atleast 2-3 More hosts until then maybe 1-2.
Because Drew carey will be done kind of soon but he will still have awhile because he is 62 years old.
Oh to sit down with this man and just listen to the history and the life stories he could tell us!! Wow!!
Wow he was lookin great at 99 that was almost 11 years ago
Missed the closest to 100 without going over joke.
Very cool, thanks for sharing this video. It's heartwarming moments like this that kept me watching TPIR despite all the scandals that surrounded Bob Barker and the show during his tenure (at least starting the early 90s).
His age is as close as possible to $1.00 without going over. Much respect
One thing I love about The Price is Right is that everyone, from the contestants, to the hosts, to the models, to the pages, ALWAYS treat the elderly & handicapped with respect & friendship, as if they all were life long pals.
Bob was always so amazing. These prizes don't come out of your pocket, and no one has fun watching no one win. Do whatever you want, pal. Keep it on the level, somewhat fair, but there's no honor in denying a man in one of his happiest moments
Drew ruined the show since 07
@morgannye1373 I've tried watching, but it's just not the same. I appreciate him sticking with the "spayed or nuetered" reminder, but I always got a vibe of lack of respect for the show's history from him. I'm sure he's a nice guy, and many people enjoy his comedy, but he was not the right choice to replace Bob.
I haven't watched new episodes in years, but I noticed on commercials that they redesigned the set now, spaced apart to conform to "Covid" precautions and California non-sense. I have no desire to watch it.
They should have Rosie O'Donnell host the Price is Right. She would be an excellent host.
@@NotSettlingForSecondBest WHAT?!?! 🤮🤮🤮
Have you seen the Rosie O'Donnell Show? She was excellent on it.
WOW! Bob treated him so greatly! so nice how the guy stayed to spin for James!
Very classy. I love Bob Barker
Loved this. Would love to see entire episode.
If he was still alive he would be 114 years old as of this day of August 21!
It was things like this that made Bob Barker a class act. Sure, he might have been a tyrant to his staff, but he always made sure contestants were given the best chance to win. Very cool moment.
Ironic Bob lived to 99 RIP Bob
I was gonna say that. Wild how that worked out.
I'm afraid James has gone over.
And now Mr. Barker is 99 years old!
(as of August 17th, 2023)
Bob Barker has always been a class act.
R.I.P James & Bob you old timers will always be remembered. ❤🤝
And Bob too
This is so wonderful!
I bet James had some amazing stories to tell.
Thank you for uploading this gem!
Amazing that that last spin came within an inch of ending up as a tie with DeSean.
What an awesome man Bob Barker truly is, thumbs up for that!!!
"Terrible!" lol. RIP Bob Barker.
Heheheh. That was so gracious of them to not give James a time limit on Switcheroo. There's no way that the timer for the game didn't work if the score display worked just fine. :)
This is so wholesome!
HAPPY HEAVENLY 100TH BIRTHDAY BOB!
12/12/23
"Incidentally, I think it's interesting that James and I went to school together."
Damn, he looks great for 99
99 and looked very good! May James and Bob both rest easy. 😔♥️
102 is really good! We all dream to live that long and 90% never each that.
Born 1904. Would be 119 years old today.
he was so excited he couldn't sleep that afternoon
James and Bob are together in Heaven now
Crazy how this man was middle-aged in the 1940s
God bless that man for living that long.
They should have Bob Barker as a contestant someday! Wouldn’t that be something?!!
it's amazing that the woman with the second longest confirmed lifespan was just 1 year older than james and died in 2022.
Bob himself would live to be 99.
Fitting how Bob made it to 99
This is prime example of how great Bob was as treating the contestants. He knew the situation and adjusted the game accordingly.
that was beyond cool...the respect they gave him was awesome. and bob is now the same age as james.
I remember that episode very well!
I bet that was a highlight for him and I really respect that that marine for helping him.
also, who was the 1 person who could've been so shallow to dislike this video? They have no sense of honour and/or respect whatsoever. Shameful....
When the model revealed the actual prices at the end, the price of the railroad lantern says zero $0. It was a blooper, and normally they give away the prize anyway, if there was an error on the show's part.
2013 now I hope you're still with us James. God bless you.
