If the contestant won the grand prize, whatever that was, before he let them know they'd won it, he could trick them into thinking they'd just made their absolute worst decision EVER, then he'd drop the bombshell that they'd just won huge.

    • @bus6292
      @bus6292 6 лет назад +11

      +Lone Wolf That's how game shows work. Giving up guaranteed five grand for a tiny chance at 10 grand is indeed a hell of a gamble. I watched it and thought 'damn, that's YOLO.' If you watched it and thought he was being reckless and dumb your opinion is just as valid as mine.

    • @bus6292
      @bus6292 6 лет назад +5

      +Lone Wolf Thank you for the edited reply. I know how easy it is to get heated on the Internet.
      I misunderstood your post. I thought you disagreed that his choice was a ballsy as hell gamble instead of being reckless. I can respect that. I understand now that you believe that game show winnings are all 'found money' and cannot in principle be gambled with. I disagree. He was guaranteed to walk home with five thousand unearned dollars or a small chance at ten thousand. That is a gamble and he won. If he lost I'd be the first to laugh at him as he gets beaten about the head with a rolling pin

    • @bus6292
      @bus6292 6 лет назад +3

      +Eric Sloss Lone Wolf's (edited) post in this thread was originally insulting. He cooled down and changed it to a plain explanation of what he thought, which is rare on RUclips so I put thought behind my reply and he didn't reply to it.
      Not replying in a RUclips argument is like saying "OK I get your viewpoint" so even if he still disagrees there is no beef between us. If you and Lone ever visit WA I'm going to roll a giant completely-legal-here Peace Blunt and you're both going to smoke it.

    • @bus6292
      @bus6292 6 лет назад +2

      +Lone Wolf I think Eric Sloss actually is done because he deleted all his posts in this thread, which is also a way of saying, "OK, I get your viewpoint" in a RUclips argument. The offer of a mutual peace blunt is still open =)

I’m also thinking of the two ladies who won $1,000, then in the spin-off both won $10,000…stories like those from former contestants - and of course, a memoriam for Johnny and Rod.

    I'm glad I finally found this. Thank you for posting. His wife said "Keep it." That should have been the end of it right there. Yes it was stupid. Yes it was lucky. Yes it is one of the greatest game show moments ever and what keeps us coming back for more. TPIR was the best for moments like these. I see people ripping Bob on this thread and it's not fair at all. His job is to milk some time, create suspense and bring out the humanity of the contestant while adding humor if possible. He sure succeeded here. I like to focus on the second he saw the $10000 card when he realized what a moment that was. He only milked slightly before slamming it home. There were 2 $10000 cards and 3 $5000 cards in the whole board. At that time, $10000 was the maximum prize. This happened on 1/26/96.

      True, but the reason the show lost its appeal is not all Drew's fault. It doesn't have any production value anymore. It's now just a bunch of greedy contestants with "pick me" shirts in a set that's a million watts too bright with games that are increasingly impossible to win. I bet nobody can name even two of the models anymore.
