Judging from the DC resistance of the voice coil, and the impedance shown by the dynamic meter, that driver is very reactive, owing to the huge magnet. I would definitely recommend driving the woofer with a switch mode class "D" amplifier. The current can get far enough out of phase with the voltage, that a linear amplifier output stage could easily get out of it's safe operating area, by having the current hit, while there is a lot of voltage across the transistors. This woofer could burn out a standard analogue amplifier. Judging by the simulated analogue meters on that Rockford Fosgate amp, it looks like you could use large stiffening capacitors on the supply to that amp. Is that amp Class "D"? Taking current from the batteries in peaks suggests that it might be.
Back in the late 80s and early 90s was my hayday for car audio. The first car I had was a Ford Fiesta with some cheap pyramid subs running in a box retrofitted from an old plywood dresser. It sounded awful, but I still cranked it up with my Coustic amp and JVC head unit. A year or so later I had a Ford Maverick with two 12" Vortex subs and four 10" Vortex subs being powered by a US Amps 100 HCA(I believe was the model number). My poor rear window seal did everything it could to cling to the rear window as the SPL attempted to push it out. The fleck stone spray paint I painted my dash with peeled off as the dash flexed. Ahhh, those were the days where the boom costed way more than the car. I can still hear Sir Mixalot rapping about his "hootie" and it seemed almost as if he was rapping about, "My Hooptie".... That's very interesting, you were only giving it around 600rms max at some points but it's obvious like you said that it's very loud and was definitely moving some air. I always thought these high RMS rated subs wouldn't be loud at all if given 'low' power compared to what they are rated for because of their stiff spiders. I'd like to see more of that SMD real time wattage going to the sub and how much it's moving, maybe it could be an idea for a video.
most el cheapo dBSPL meters tap out at around 120 db if you're lucky. For this level of spl you either mortgage your house for a precision B&K instrument or you can get an old school 1960 era analog scale one. You would also need to come up with a pretty credible story for the cops lmao
I have a 15" Sundown Audio X-15 V.2 D2 PRO. With a rockville DB15 , Its one sub that hits as hard as the specs say. Modified a concert speaker box by taking out the cone tweeter and extended the hole about 3/4 back with a 1/2 in pressed particle board across the entire box. I couldn't have built a better box. Just fits right into my jeep Cherokee. From the top of the seat to the tailgate and from window to window. I need to switch the amp out for a 1 Ohm amp. Speaker is 2 Ohm dual voice coil, and amp is 2 Ohm stable monoblock. Its currently at 4 Ohm because i don't want to damage the amp if i drop the speakers down to 1 Ohm. (1.2 Ohm approximately) Seriously for half the price, got to check out Sundown Audio! I do not work for any audio company or retailer. Just a Bass head. Who remembers Dj magic mike? How low can you go...
Yeah! That was a good one!... Unfortunately, not very many younger people nowadays actually know about all of those really awesome TRUE bass CDs that came out in the mid to late 90's! Now most people just use their cellphones for an audio source when listening to or "testing" speakers, but your phone doesn't *accurately* go down to 2, 5 or even 10Hz, (actually probabably not really anything below 20Hz), especially not *cleanly* , (i.e. *without* a shitload of totally audible and quite annoying *digital noise artifacts* from its internal circuitry, plus considerable and *definitely audible distortion* and audio clipping, especially when its output level is turned up to maximum! ), but those dedicated bass CDs from that era most *definitely* DO go down that low with a good CD player, (AND cleanly if the CD was properly mastered!), and so if you want a TRUE low-end audio test of any speaker or subwoofer then one *really* needs to *experience* a good bass CD! (And for God's sake, NOT just an "MP3 DOWNLOAD" of one of those albums either, because doing that TOTALLY defeats the main purpose of using a CD and its MUCH better sound quality and greatly extended frequency response!) I had bought AND I still have about 100 of those type of CDs in my music collection, and people that I let hear them nowadays are totally blown away by how awesomely powerful, clean and ultra LOW their bass truly is!... I especially love many of the ones from DM Records and Neurodisc Records, just to name 2 good companies, as most that were put out on those 2 labels especially, also had really cool, enjoyable listening "electronica" style *music* tracks on them too, some of which are still awesome songs now, especially considering how those same or similar EDM beats and such are so popular now in music in general! Pandisc Records also had a few good quality ones too. Those were probably the biggest 3 record labels that produced about 80% of all of the bass CDs, so look for some albums from those companies as a good place to start if interested in getting any. People that enjoy and truly *appreciate* or LOVE BASS, should really try to find and buy (most likely good condition *used* copies of, as most of those albums are now out of print), a few real bass CDs, (the physical CDs themselves!), to use for evaluating speakers and subs, otherwise they're missing out on how awesome TRUE LOW BASS can actually be!!
In theory yes but it is not common practice to power 1 driver with 2 different sources. You would have to balance the output of the 2 amps i.d.k. if ppl do it that way. I would say its not the way
Yeah... I'm two minutes into the video and I don't understand how anyone could think this thing is necessary. You could run an entire wall of high quality subwoofer with 6k watts. There is no way one subwoofer with that amount of wattage can compete with numerous subwoofers.
@William Billowitch It's not the subwoofer it's the damping of the amplifier which means how well it controls the movement of the subwoofer I have 2 massive xlr 12s hippos and they hit the lows well I'm running a Taramps bass 8k on them and the Rockford Fosgate is a class bd amplifier which is not class d? Why would you even compare it to the 12w6? A fair comparison would be more with the 12w7. But I would still opted for the jl.
Can you test a “American bass signature series” 15s
My entire music system is Massive. From amp to speakers.
What's in the boxxxxxxx lol that was funny!!!
Love your channel Big DWiz
Thanks brother 👌
I would kill for that Rockford amp!!! Not literally, but you get the point!!! Rockford has been my favorite brand for amps, not the subs however
It is a dreamy amp for sure
Yes Strap her up Big D💪 would love to see that.Might wreck the lab though😕🔊
How about adding an SPL test as part of your testing
It’s in the plans 😎
@@wal make a serious were you test subs with a spl meter and put exactly 90 % of the max rms .You could compare all them ,Sundown, jl 13w7,skar ,ct sounds etz etz .
@@Andre25167 I would say stay with one sub and test the SPL based on the amplifier s output. Therefore it shows amp power difference and not the speaker.
dam with a subwoofer like that you could rattle the stars and stripes off America 😂😭🥵👏🏾👏🏾
That would be cool and I’ll look into using 2 cameras and do this 🤙
You can use a db meter to show how loud it is bro!
most el cheapo dBSPL meters tap out at around 120 db if you're lucky.
(1.2 Ohm approximately)
Seriously for half the price, got to check out Sundown Audio!
I do not work for any audio company or retailer. Just a Bass head. Who remembers Dj magic mike? How low can you go...
Rock the MAGIC MIKE “Feel the Bass” ....
(And for God's sake, NOT just an "MP3 DOWNLOAD" of one of those albums either, because doing that TOTALLY defeats the main purpose of using a CD and its MUCH better sound quality and greatly extended frequency response!)
I had bought AND I still have about 100 of those type of CDs in my music collection, and people that I let hear them nowadays are totally blown away by how awesomely powerful, clean and ultra LOW their bass truly is!...
I was considering buying one of these subwoofers for my truck! Thank you Big D!
Hey big D throw everything the Orion hcca 3000 D can do to this beast of a sub , do it in parallel 👍🏻
Orion hcca 3000d
*Orion 3k SPLX
That's not even close to 6000 wattes
Hell ya what ya waiting for
I hope they do an 18 inch version.
They did lol
Sir... Can i use (2) T2500 amp for that 1 sub 6,000rms?
In theory yes but it is not common practice to power 1 driver with 2 different sources. You would have to balance the output of the 2 amps i.d.k. if ppl do it that way. I would say its not the way
Too strapped t2500 would kill this sub I'm pretty sure of it that would be about 7k RMS from both amps
Damn, that's a Big Ass Sub! Just one can break all windows on my SUV! 😯💪
Keep up the good work.
Man that’s one clean looking amp 💯
Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@wal 💯
I have 2 hippo 8" on 500 watts and they are LOUD
Totally agree. I had 2 hippo 12's and they did the job👍
Robert Redmond can’t each one of them take 500 each? Been thinking about getting this for my minivan
Just discovered this channel, pretty good! Subscribed
Close to 500 videos here, welcome!
This definitely looks like a JLD Audio sub.
T2500.1 Fosgate that amp is a beast!! Put that on deno
Meade916 has tested one already, but I can test this one if y’all want
@@wal I'm curious!
Yeah... I'm two minutes into the video and I don't understand how anyone could think this thing is necessary. You could run an entire wall of high quality subwoofer with 6k watts. There is no way one subwoofer with that amount of wattage can compete with numerous subwoofers.
So what happens if your space is limited?
@William Billowitch It's not the subwoofer it's the damping of the amplifier which means how well it controls the movement of the subwoofer I have 2 massive xlr 12s hippos and they hit the lows well I'm running a Taramps bass 8k on them and the Rockford Fosgate is a class bd amplifier which is not class d? It's more efficient but more distortion? I'm 57 years old and been hooking up systems every since I was 16 ?
INCREÍBLE como PATEA los BAJOS con ese CONO tan CHIQUITO😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😁👍👏
Team massive yes sir I miss my hippos xl 122
Tyronne Hamilton I got 2- them hippo xl 122r’s love dem
I have 2 hippo xl 122s... what amp did u use to push urs? I'm using 2 Rockford fosgate p1000.1bd amps. 1 amp for each sub but I wanna get a amp that can push both.
Al Cahalic audiopipe 3000d
I have crescendo 4k the new 2018 line
Running @ .5
First sub to make a JL Audio look tiny is incredible. What a massive Beast you have there. I don't think there is any taming that thing
Having that in a home theater setup then.😊😅😅
Nice video sir.....from philippines here,..👏👏👏👏
Damn good subwoofer, 😍😍😍
I wonder how it would handle my 4 old school BD 1500s .
That kind of looks like an LMS Ultra motor.
Lol
@@oSTYNCLSYo Yeah. After comparing the two, that was a laughable comment. Pretty sure I was "drunk youtubing".
@@ryannutter4669 all good. I had the lms 5400s ultra 18s, I miss them.
@@oSTYNCLSYo I bet you do. It's too bad TC Sounds had to go down the way they did. Imagine what they'd have to offer today. I never owned one, but I always wanted one for home theater use. Now they're just a relic as far as I can tell. Even if you can find a used one, it's going to be very used.
@@ryannutter4669 go to robotunderground you tube channel. He has all kinds of tc sounds for sale. Its awesome to see so much he does with old baskets on diff motors just amazing
That was a great video . It's a trip how you just have to be there in person to get the full spl experience.
It’s true
There is no replacement for displacement
Nice sub those who can afford it im sure they wont be disappointed
If you want straight up SPL, yeah
Trust me nobody buys from the massive website, only local dealers... their website pricing is a trap for the goofballs
can't find the boa 121 at any retailers though :(
Got the strapped video yet??? These massive Woofers are beasts.
we still need 3999watt for that 9999watt bass test
What do you think it would do if you put power to it close to the rms rating of this speaker?
We should find out 🤔
@@wal I know you have something around there that will pump out that much juice!
@@wal do you still have that beast? That thing will probably blow the bondo off my truck lol
Sundown price from massive? I dunno..
Try to put on the dyno The Massive D8000 amp please , some people like it a Lot
Thanks big D
Not sure I can test amps that big, or if I want to. Cost a lot to upgrade electrical for highly specialized market
@@wal it's just 4.000 rms at 0.5 ohm . U're the BOSS , thanks for answer 🤗
It is reli d8000 0.5 4000rms can hit boa 6000rms? I wanna to know pls
Magic mike feel the bass all time classic ✌🏿✌🏿✌🏿
👈😬👍
1200 for a sub is pretty pricey but from what you said id assume its worth every bit of that?
*Items on table ratling* subwoofer: 200W out of 6000W.... Umm yeah...
you dumb or something?
The cone on that Massive Sub looks very similar to the DB Drive Platinum subs I have in my truck.
Accepting merch in exchange for a review is still sponsorship.
Yep. If you get free stuff to review, its called "Sponsored" lol 😅 the only time its not is if you use your own money from a job. Not Patreon either as that to me is also sponsorship.
Good video BigDWiz!!! Hopefully you will be strapping two of those ROCKFORD FOSGATE T2500-1bdcp amps together so we can see that subwoofer really bump in a proper subwoofer inclosure of course!!! ✌️✌️✌️
Hopefully this vid gets enough views so I can buy another T2500 👈😜
I got my Fi team 15 for under $700. Massive is crazy. Pass

Called the massive audio hippo xl152. 2k rms.
I like it's pretty solid. My first 15 inch, im underpowering it by 400 watts. Just got done with the big 3 and installed a volt meter. Everything's all good. Going to put my 12 type rs back in and see how crazy the three of them will be
I got the same sub in a birch 4.5 cube areo box custom built for my little hyundai accent, strapped to a audiopipe 1800.1d entire car flexes like crazy lol
I'd need helper springs in my Silverado. LoL
