Same, i thought i needed some item to permanently kill it. But i just wanted to see how many times i can kill it, and saw the flower doing different move at third phase, i knew i just had to kill it few more times lol. Luckly i only had to kill it three times lol
I had a friend who was ahead of me say "ok, time for phase 3" and I laughed like a fool. Then phase 3 started and I stopped laughing real quick.
Miyazaki heard all the complaints about the recycled Avatar fights in the base game and just said 'Ok, less next time.'
When I fought it, we traded final blows because I kept fumbling its attacks.
When the third phase first popped up I was worried it might be a Fool's Idol situation where you have to do something somewhere else to make the boss killable, until I noticed the music was getting sadder.

Just touching on a comment you made early in the stream, Elden Ring DLC works fine on Steam Deck. The only issue is the online breaks if you *don't* have the DLC installed.

You got the perfect weapon for this boss. Extremely weak to fire, and you can throw it to hit its head lmao.
What’s cool is the sunflower weapon absolutely pummels Mesmer too if you catch him with the l2
in my experience you dont even need a weapon, just respect some faith, equip your best seal and black flame, get your best talismans and some fp flasks, and just keep chuckin them lmao. that shit legitimately melts the boss and you dont even need high faith, I had 25 faith on the dragon communion seal and it was trivial

It feels new because;
1) Almost no dedicated library.

3) no stock for a long while after release
Messmer starting feeling fair when I got to *redacted* (final boss)
Messmer is a great boss. He has really oppressive strings but also good amount of punishes for you to take advantage of. I would even argue his second phase makes him easier, as he goes into the snake form very often for you to get attacks in during his recovery.
As for the *redacted* nonsense of a fight, that shit really irks me as a failure of a design simply because of how hard it is to see anything of whats happening in front of you. Doesn't help that the damage is obscene and you're pretty much required to go cheese to fight cheese, which I also don't like.

Messmer is great.
The last boss will def be in a boss rage compilation. Half the time I could barely see what was on the stream. I also agree with Max with every dlc boss doing Tekken combos and our reward being a jab lol.
1. messmer's spear is a Dex Faith scaling weapon. Not strength dex, not strength faith. Youre not gonna be doing much with it when ur faith is a measly 20 and half ur stats are in Arcane.
2. The fire on the weapon scales with fiath. The physical on the weapon scales with dex. The ash of war is a lot of fire, so it would do more damage if you had points in faith.
3. As with most weapons with a long-ish ash of war. You use its moveset on bosses. Thats just how the game works. Doesnt mean the weapon is bad against bosses. Just means if you wanna use the ash of war u gotta use it wisely.
Yeah, he doesn't understand how faith scales in general or what it does.
I'm a strength/faith build, using the colossal weapon called Greatsword and have the flame art on it, then my ash of war is a new dlc ash of war called Fire Thrust, where you thrust the weapon in the air, it catches fire and you can follow it up by throwing fire, combine that with Flame Grant me strength, it's amazing because the weapon stays on fire for a good bit.
Dude I can’t imagine trying to use that ash of war on the final boss. Absolute suicide lol
Yeah he don't care much about the meta of the game, I kinda like that cause it means anyone can play and beat the game and you don't need to be a hardcore sicko to do it
Max finding the lance cheese is how I defeat most bosses with shield knights ash and full int sorcery. 😂 Didn’t even seen most Gaius attacks.

Another thing I'm starting to realize that really helps with this dlc? Having more than one weapon/build. I've been having a relatively easier time than many people I know who stick to one (or at most two) builds, even when my scadutree levels were way lower during some of these bosses. Experimenting with what feels great depending on the situation can drastically change your experience (for gaius, I tried using my main, the milady with wing stance, then my old dual wielding curved sword bleed build, then one of the new greatswords, but none of them felt good and got me killed fairly quickly because I'm also not the most skilled fighter. But when I switched to dueling shield, Gaius became manageable and took about three minutes to defeat). I even have a build that are great against bosses but are kinda terrible against multiple mobs and vice versa. Mind you, I'm doing some work that requires to go explore and collect these weapons anyway, so I have more of an excuse to pause on some bosses. So yeah, as Max said, many factors will still make the dlc as easy as you want similar to the base game. It's just that the dlc is... well... MUCH harder.
I can never just use one weapon in most games. Circumstances sometimes require finess over unga bunga, and I like having the option.

Having to learn to open up with games that require a bit of flexibility for a more colorful experience takes time (I went through this during Monster Hunter: World 😂) and if you don't have that luxury, it's even harder to do so.
I've been using a strength/faith hybrid build since the games been out, I've never felt the want or need to switch builds because using a colossal weapon type with faith buffs and incantations, on top of having high poise, gives you a lot of options.
@@wodensthrone5215 oh yeah I should've specified when I said builds I also meant like just weapons/talismans/physicks and such while attached with stats that can handle being flexible. I myself am strength/dex which luckily the game feeds pretty well esp early in 😂👌
For real I literally had a different weapon for certain mobs, bosses and npc invaders. Not getting tunnel visioned on what weapon you’re dedicated to helps loads, different tools for different situations is the best way to play imo. The game gives you plenty of materials to upgrade multiple weapons so best to use them.
Unlike the Commander, this flower was the only remembrance boss that I ended up using summons, and it’s because of the fact that I didn’t even know it was a remembrance until I killed it.
to be fair bosses never being minus is a thing everywhere in elden ring. I still remember margott just won't stop if he doesn't feel like it.
it helps to not roll everything, jump is actually a really good dodging option and strafing/running for spacing dodges is good like in every souls game.
People don't know jumping has more i-frames.every attack that looks low to the ground can be jumped in most cases.but it's hard to unlearn to roll everything if you played all soulsborne games
Bruh even with the shadow tree fragments and the use of my summons. The bosse in game still go crazy and i love it. I only really hated the hippo

Honestly, all of the stuff that I've been hearing about the DLC's difficulty has made me super thankful that I went with a heavily-armored Spellblade build. I was consistently able to tank 4-8 hits from bosses, and I could choose to go melee or ranged depending on the enemies or just how I was feeling each day.
The only two bosses in the entire DLC that I've genuinely disliked were Gaius because of his broken charge hitbox and
(MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD, SERIOUSLY, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED)
The second phase of the final boss because holy shit did Fromsoft go overboard with the light beams in that fight. Not only are they really hard to dodge, but they're so bright that I genuinely feel like I would get a headache if I tried to beat that fight for hours like many of the streamers ans youtubers I've seen.
Same boat as you. Went for a heavy build, power stancing two colossals. Managed to get through pretty well, but man oh man the final boss in phase 2 is a nightmare. Killed me over 100 times lol. Decided I’m gonna come back once I’m stronger and wreck him up then, good luck!

Yeah, that final bosses light effects were way too much. I had to time my blinks with the dodge so it wouldn't hurt my eyes when the light effects happen. I could avoid seeing most of it and lessen the likelihood of a headache and eye pain. Thus making me want to beat it as quick as possible for the second phase
Got the final boss on my first attempt. Flame Skewer is just Giant Hunt but better.
I died the most to Ancient Dragon Sensessax of all bosses, whoever decided to not add the targeting to his back legs like every dragon is an actual moron with 5 IQ. Lightning spam keeping you away and when's he flying you cannot see him and are just fighting the camera, such Dog****

Fire Knight Greatsword is phenomenal. R1s true combos, fast swing like the godskin greatsword and has the poke R2 of the Zweihander. Absolutely recommend. And you can farm it from any of the fire knights who weld it.

Its funny, during my playthrough I went through the front door of Shadow Keep first and spent like 2hrs trying to figure out how to get where Max has been wandering around lol. Crazy how many different ways that legacy dungeon can be explored. Its probably there best dungeon design ever.
I feel like this NPC is clearly an Onion Knight type. She calls the place a jumble, then tells you she's busy. You unlock the mystery to the revolving platforms, then go back and talk again. Right? It's been in every soulsborne.
I'm sad that Max never got the Fire Knight armor to drop even though he fought like 100 of them.

I am at 3 Scadus when i beat Messmer and the Pig! I am staying at 3 for my whole playthrough. I was level 138 coming into this DLC. I am now at 166 after beating Pepper. What a game! Its an amazing DLC!

Encountered him today for the first time - after 3 failed tries I can see why people are having a hard time there 😅
Made a build just for him,old popular pvp build.all you need is a good shield(bigger the better)with 'no skill ' on it,a thrusting blood bleed weapon with seppuko,golden vow and scolars shield for buffs.talismans i use are lord of blood exultation,spear talisman,rotten wing sword insignia and turtle talisman.for physick the thorny cracked tear and one of choice.need 12 int,25 faith for buffs.50 dex,30 arcane.frenzied flame seal and albinauric staff cuz they need no stats to use and you'll make that boss cry like a bitch
If you don't use a shield, he's going to be next to impossible, at 55 endurance and turtle +2, you literally don't have enough stamina to dodge and fight with him.
Sorry but that's not true. I killed him with bleed infused GS and always had enough stamina to dodge. With no stamina talismans used (health +3, Erdtree +2, bullgoat, big jar. You just don't spam dodge, but react to what he does.

The Scadutree boss wasn’t hard but what made it frustrating was the performance lag whenever it used its thorne attacks.

Someone looked into the reviews and something like 40% of the negative reviews were chinese players having issues with the anti-cheat. There are definitely some people giving negative reviews due to difficulty, but I think probably more than 75% of the negative reviews were not difficulty related.
Frostbite the boss and thawing them with fire is one strat, but if you frostbite the target, they take extra damage for 30sec, so i frost them and just switch weapon to bleed them, and when frost wore off i put frost again. Or duel wield each effect.
My build is a lightning dragon hyrbid my weapon is the deathknight halberd and for bleed I use the Bloodfiend colossal weapon with the ash of war Savage lions claw ability, new lightning incantations and weapons are DOWP

The bosses are so relentless you sorta have to create your own openings in Elden Ring. Positioning is more important in ER than any other souls game
Walk in the park boss if you use any ranged option at all on the head. Just chucked lightning at the sucker when I realized the head takes massive damage
Well of course. You attack it's weak point for massive damage. Having feature like real time weapon change is helpful.

The reason uare stuck is because u went a way u ain't supposed to go to get here. There is a lever that will move the rafters from the middle of the massive central column.

Staggering bosses is very doable and just takes the right build and powerups..
I found out literally the first boss of the dlc, as a shield user, that guard counters were nowhere near as rewarding or opportunistic as the base game. These bosses give you little room for error. Base game I was able to roll over bosses by punishing them, but here they punish me for guard countering. I ended up beating the dlc learning how to be a very mobile and dodgy shield user, but I think I am better for it as a whole. I still am a very heavy build, but I learned that I can’t solely rely on my shield for defense. I am gonna try out a new character and new build just to see how different it is. I am thinking spell caster.

So yeah, the sound mixing on Freya's voice and indicating which direction she is could have been better

@YourDevastator I know, but id hit the guy with a full combo before his swing even gets half way through and the dude still poises through. I fully agree they should have the least poise damage game mechanics wise but the game takes it too far in my opinion

Performance for me was pretty shit even on Series X. Base game, even from launch I could get a pretty stable frame rate, but the DLC I was dipping sub 30 even on performance mode. It wasn't TOO bad, but definitely noticeable.

Some people like to never use them. Some use them every time they can. Some from time to time. From what I remember Max likes to not use summons or Co op. At least for the first time he fights a boss. One of the great things about the game. All the different ways you can play, make it harder or easier etc.
@@sean8102 But he likes to cheese enemies so he definetely wants it easier. Also in coop enemies have 2x hp and you have 70% stats as a summon. I don't see him going to other players so he definetely doesn't like a harder difficulty.
It felt weird watching this after seeing a full unga bunga run, a lot of bosses became way easier when they can be staggered, even one you can't staggered felt less stressful because you didn't have to dodge them too much because you deal a lot damage.
In Max eyes every weapon scales off Str/dex lmao. I wonder where the hell he "learn" how scaling works in Fromsoft games.
