they absolutely nailed the DLC music. i think even the DLC criticizers can admit that. i know a lot of people were a bit disappointed about Elden Ring's base-game music, especially the open world segment's ambient theme music. the boss music and legacy dungeon themes were almost all great, and some of the ambient themes were too (like Leyndell), with some especially stand-out tracks (like the fan favorites Elden Ring main theme/Radagon, Mohg and the Ancestral Spirit); however, the DLC music, including almost all of the overworld themes, are A+. They felt more confident and more impactful, and the creativity and details (some of them pointed out in OPs comment) are on par, or even exceeding, what we've come to expect from the orchestral music of FromSoft's key partner composers.
Until watching Max playing this section on stream, I actually had no idea Torrent wasn't usable since I only ever use the horse for brief necessary double jumping sections or spirit springs. It's a neat detail given that the animals are all frenzied, and a later item mentions that the Frenzied Flame can even melt away spirit objects which are meant to be eternal.
@@teetheluchador Usually I just casually wander around and check out everything, but I do sprint places sometimes. I'm never really in a hurry to get anywhere since enjoying the setting is largely the point of open world RPGs - and you find a lot of stuff by paying attention to little details anywhere around where you're going. Having the Black Knife Armor means that I don't exist as an audio source to any enemy units. So I can just walk by most anything, and usually don't even need to crouch to avoid detection so long as I'm not in very close proximity line of sight, but especially at night or in the rain. I can crouch to wander by most types of units, and crouch in bushes to become functionally invisible to them if I _really_ don't want to bother with them, but moreso than that, I make no sound walking or jumping - so I almost always hear enemies before they see me, even around blind corners & for proximity scripted ambushes. Plus then a lot of Ashes or certain projectiles only have an impact point not an origin sound. Carrying the Beast-Repellant Torch on my back by two-handing my main weapon while exploring means that I don't emit a light source, AND it still retains the ability where regular creature mobs (all types of dogs, wolves, white wolves, rats, giant rats, frenzied rats, frenzied giant rats, rams, horned rams, boars, horned boars, bears, horned bears, basilisks, & giant dogs) won't aggro or attempt to attack me at all, unless I attack them first. Since Rellana was the first boss I beat in the DLC, her Twin Blades have been my go-to weapon the whole time, and they're perfect for that as they get unique, super rapid attacks being "two-handed" since you get a special type of dual-wield like that. As such, I'm free to meander basically anywhere I want at my own pace, largely unthreatened however I want, so with the Site of Grace fast travel being really good, I seldom have a reason to run anywhere either. So I've never really had any motive to bother with Torrent at all, aside from spirit springs or needing to double jump some gaps. All low level cliff terrain in the game is designed to be traversable without him, and most all of the jumping sections are WAY easier without him (because he controls like a horse). The game gives you lots of tools to approach situations in a ton of different ways, which is one of the things I really like about it.
@@PierceArnerI think the questioning of you not using Torrent didn't come from how you go about it, but more so that that would require an incredible amount of unnecessary time to do more not much reward, as vast majority of worthwhile items are easily discoverable by still traveling on horseback. @@nyarancia I'd compare it to taking a walk in the forest. Spending time appreciating the details & atmosphere of the environment by taking your time as you do it is _far _*_more_*_ rewarding_ than just treating the forest itself merely as an impediment to you reaching a different "worthwhile" destination meaning your time in the forest should be overcome as efficiently as possible. There's also a lot of environmental storytelling throughout the game that changes when it reacts to the player, which you miss if you're running through everything. Max still don't know how to spot the position of the Map in unexplored areas huh. He completely missed the Abbysal Woods map. To those who doesnt know, if you look at the unexplored parts of the map, you can see an obelisk like Icon and that's where the map is.
Somehow, FromSoft really messed up the grace locations. Giving THREE graces so close to each other AND shortcuts to the previous one. Finding and opening a shortcut gives more joy than finding a new grace imo.
The Abyssal Wood is a cool atmospheric area but for me its just "That" area thats usually in a Souls game where it feels like they wanted to do more with it but didnt have time.

3:21:45 -- Max blows his nose and it sounds like a vuvuzela
“No way he can shoot me from this far, no way, it’d be too unfair”…😂
I will say the aggro range for some range enemies are waaay too far sometimes in the DLC 😅
I love how pleased he looked when he found the secret tunnel
First friggin invasion by npc and my blood pressure is up, holy damn.
That little troll you fight before Midra. The voice reminds me of the Scientist from The NeverEnding Story.
...that's Midra.
Also funny you mention TNES, when I entered it and I lost torrent, it reminded me of that swamp where Atreyu lost Atrax.
@@valcristPL The Swamp of Sorrow part still hurts my heart.
Snail was fast right
“It cannot even be touched” never said anything about parrying!
Max always drops a video at just the right time.
Max still don't know how to spot the position of the Map in unexplored areas huh. He completely missed the Abbysal Woods map. To those who doesnt know, if you look at the unexplored parts of the map, you can see an obelisk like Icon and that's where the map is.
There's 1 boss I'm DYING for him to find
Which'n?
If u mean that divine beast in rauh, this was an awful allusion to that
yea the true bloodborne-like boss right? the one at the end of the ymir side quest?
if not, ima assume bayle haha
@@ApoMelon yup that one the bloodborne one
Somehow, FromSoft really messed up the grace locations. Giving THREE graces so close to each other AND shortcuts to the previous one.
Finding and opening a shortcut gives more joy than finding a new grace imo.
Shadap
1:12:00
That's a Rhinoporcupigoppotamus, Max.
For any eagle eyed viewers or soulsborne fans.....3:29:00 we get our yellow robed reference
I thought this boss was harder than Messmer. Maybe it was just when I fought him but I legit found his attacks hard to read.
Oh yeahhh!
The Abyssal Wood is a cool atmospheric area but for me its just "That" area thats usually in a Souls game where it feels like they wanted to do more with it but didnt have time.
even with the addition of abyssal woods, I doubt people are using the sound arrow or that wailing stone consumable
If I knew max would just use the throwing Spears To cheese everything from range I wouldnt have watched this
I am so glad that I am not the only one that felt this way. Run got really boring to watch once he got the spear. Just spamming that and jump attacks for the rest of the run didn't make for a great watch 😅
Crybaby😅
🤫
I didn't know it was possible to die to Jori, Max is definitely underleveled(get dem scat fragments).
Shut up.
Why do people make this game harder than it is…..fail spear throws and jump attacks 🤯
That hippo animation looks so weird, it lunges so fast lmao
Anyone who struggles with getting caught by the lanterns, you can use shattershard arrows to distract them.
How did Max manage to dodge the Winter Lanterns, but then run repeatedly into Midra's leap attack in the pre-fight phase? xD
Oh look my favorite: area, boss, and ost of the entire game
Midra is the best fight in the DLC.
3:43:32 , the insane damage and Max’s reaction , That’s Elden Ring 😑
Max refusing to heal during the lord of frenzied flame fight gave me anxiety.
It's kinda odd how many hints/notes Fromsoft left in this forest. Did they really need to remind us to be stealthy like three times? It just sticks out to me because the rest of the DLC is very cryptic.
I didn’t know u could parry the madness dudes until like two days later on my run 💀
Edit. I also somehow faught messmer before golden hippo😭😭😭
Max has tuned me into Michael Kane, shouting "don't throw them bloody spears" at my TV. Messmers Spear isn't very good yet he persists in using it. 🤦🏻♂️
Bc he tries too cheese everything
This area scared the shit outta me
Every time you miss time your attack, isn’t input reading by the AI. Just saying
THE DEPTHS OF YOUR FOOLISHNESS
I got to & beat Messmer, cleared the ruins after him. Beat Rellana, the other Hippo & hammer head crucible knight.
But I really don't want to play anymore. I love the legacy dungeons but I've really had enough of the open world. I'm finding it so incredibly tedious now
2:25:27 - 2:40:00
Time to "Iori Yagami used sonic boom"
Juri summoned the fat heartless 😅
LOL
17:44
same energy as Joe Pesci saying "what the fuck is this piece of shit" lmao
I eagerly await these uploads. I love watching Max play Elden Ring
I think having to redo Midra’s “phase 1” every time you die, motivated me enough to kill him in the 2nd or 3rd try. That “phase 1” and cutscene seemed too annoying to go through every time.
Max did not miss the bosses they are just all optional
He went exactly where the grace guides you
Yep. The critical path. Without much exploring.
Jesus Christ can max play any game without mentioning bloodborne
I always wanted to play that game but now I'm completely turned off by it because he talks about it too dang much
@@rhettbutler5397 seriously bro it’s annoying as fuck, I swear he compared things to bloodborne in every single video of shadow of the erdtree and he wasn’t far off doing it in base game aswell. I get it’s his favourite game but fuck me it’s annoying.
What if the lands between actually literally means the lands between. Like between soulsbourne and sekiro as a kinda pocket dimension 😮. Idk why I just now had that revelation lol
That's been my head canon ever since my first playthrough!
Would be dumb popcorn shit but imagine an avengers style reveal where the fog clears and we see Anor Londo in the distance on one side, Yahrnam on the other and maybe whatever the fuck the demon souls land is called.
I remember it clearly saying somewhere the lands between are shrouded in fog. Just like in demons souls.
Every single game has outer gods, old ones, etc pulling the strings.
Maybe we’ll eventually kill the big bad causing all the fog and then the lands all converge dark souls 3 style in the conclusion of the fromsoft universe 😅
And also throw in a few armored core mechs haha.
Just beat Midra last night and it was a struggle with the damage, however somehow i broke him and he didn't switch to his 2nd phase.
The level of discomfort I felt entering the Abyssal Woods was off the charts. The atmosphere FromSoft has the ability to create is off of the charts.
10’skadu? i just FINALLY got to “abyss” and im already at +17 and +8
We do not care 🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂
Super sayian 3 hippo
he follow the exact routes i did when i played, ended up looking up the rest
Max beat Messmer after the Dancing Lion or what? Seems like his second DLC playthrough.
What?
@@andreseh87 He has Messmer's equipment before the Golden Hippo at main the entrance of Shadow Keep.
im guessing someone in chat told him about the illusory wall in shadow keep that leads to abyssal woods
There's an item that tells you where it is.
that wall isn't hard to find
It's a pretty obvious illusionary wall
Yeah, the way he left the room, looked at chat, then re-entered the room for seemingly no reason was pretty sus.
I found it on my own@@squizzo5809
Man max be under estimating the enemies new jank
Max is my favorite content creator for sure.. but it’s been painful watching him play this DLC 😂
It feels like he is rushing for some reason
Thanks Max;your a cool dude, content has kept me distracted from some craziness that’s going on.
Next boss? CUUURSE YOU BAYYLEE!
That's a funny looking thing...
I'm going look at the blood loss numbers with the black twin blade its way higher than some full level weapons while its level 1.
It's very strange to me that FromSoft guides the player so much with what to do in the Abyssal Woods...They usually don't do that
