I used to think the P1 was a timeless classic that looks modern even in 2024, but this time, McLaren have outdone themselves. This is one beautiful car.

That's because the P1 released when Mclaren didn't make many supercars, but now that Mclaren have made many models, you won't feel as excited regardless of how it looks
I mean... This one isn't even released and is already inferior to a Jesko Attack/Absolut; performance wise won't beat in a track a Red Bull R19, Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR, GMA T.50s or Bugatti Bolide (which are not road legal) but if you want to go with road cars it probably will strigle vs the vanilla Valkyrie, the AMG One, the Gma T.50 / T.33, or the Jesko Absolut. The interesting thing is that unlike a lot of the named cars I wrote this maybe could have a bereable engine in terms of noise, since most of latest hypercars are hard to tolerate after handling them for a couple of weeks (the Valkyrie and the AMG One feel like riding a concrete mixer):
The P1 was a work of art, the W1 is more aggressive and angular it looks built to be a racecar. Nothing can top the P1 design it was so smooth so beautiful. The W1 has a lot of what I assume is exposed or maybe black painted carbon, I wonder what it would look like with some of that wrapped or painted body color. Good design, great job McLaren.

It was simply harder to drive, and Laferrari cheats with press cars. 918 keeps up and beats it in the 1/4 mile and twister lower speed tracks. But that's about it.

It's growing on me,, I loved the P1 from the moment it was unveiled. It has always been a dream car of mine. I think this has a lot to live upto compared to the P1.
The W1 looks cool but it resembles many other Mclaren models. The P1 was 1 of a kind and every body line and part was unique to it. The P1 design was used for their future models while the W1 is using previous models as a reference.
1st generation trinity prioritised - Best tech + insane design + boggling acceleration. 2nd generation prioritieses - Extreme low weight + making the max out of smaller engines/electric combo + Skin ripping acceleration Key improvement that impressed me is how they are so much easily beating their previous bigger engines by combining it with electric motors that weight as much as a small turbo. People are still complaining because the design looks plain or less hypercar😂
I like it. From the side you can inspo from the McLaren Senna, from the front, the rear, and the silhouette it looks like a modernized McLaren P1. The headlight design is similar to the McLaren GT.
This W1 just looks like a commercial product , whilst it may be technologically advanced it lacks the artistic styling and passion that the P1 had/has….. just one car guy’s opinion.

Everything is good but comparing most of the things with a Ferrari is not acceptable. Ferrari has its own strategy while developing a car. I think even McLaren didn’t take Ferrari as much as you compared it. End of the day a Ferrari is a Ferrari .. you can’t feel a McLaren like a Ferrari. Loving the look and performance figures of the W1 - agree that the side profile is Senna-esque. P1 is definitely more organic looking and the W1 doesn’t have a recognisable McLaren ‘face’ but I do love it. However, like all these multi-million pound hyper cars, we will only see them at events and rare auctions with many retaining delivery mileage. Sad but it seems this is the way of these halo cars. that off-brand feeling has crept into more and more of the best companies. i know exactly what you mean. side character energy, android phone vibes, generic sci-fi vs. OG star wars. it’s more than just car companies, too. maybe one of the big design trends of our time i don’t think it’s evil or awful. “if you don’t like it just don’t engage with it” after all. and you could argue it’s actually a good sign, because at the end of the day all it really means is that more amateur designers are able to test out their ideas in the marketplace, which was always going to be a consequence of the democratization of creative tools we are bothered by them today, but our descendants will not be plagued by the soulless mediocrity of our time as they will have distilled our contributions to the few timeless designs that really matter. at the end of the day i guess it’s worth it for another reason too-a decrease in gatekeeping increases the chance of diamonds in the rough breaking through and adding beauty to the world. at least that’s hopefully what we get lol. probably too early to tell
Beautiful! But a bit disappointed as McLaren didn't go with 3 seat, central driving position. Other supercar/ hypercar brands tried it, and it worked... They even have it on their Speedtail. Why? Maybe for battery placement, as it's a hybrid? It would've been more iconic as it take a nod to the original F1, being it as special as always.
I love the design, it's the best looking Mclaren in my opinion, love the spoiler and doors, the front end looks great. Looks are different for everyone and you will always get people who love and hate it.
I like it overall, but I think the hype has been hindered by McLaren making so many models every year. When the P1 dropped, it felt revolutionary whereas this W1 feels evolutionary. And while thats ok, it doesn’t feel enough of a leap forward as we’ve seen with other manufacturers successors. Still very fast and carries flagship performance no doubt, but it lacks a bit of that “wow” factor
You absolutely nailed it with revolutionary vs evolutionary. The P1 seemed almost alien at the time, and even though I like this new W1, it does seem a bit on the predictable side of things, no? That rear wing has quite the magic to it though!

The P1 became popular due to Top Gear and the Holy Trinity. It would be the same if the Holy Trinity came back again, but I think McLaren is the true successor of its Holy Trinity model with the V8. As Porsche is going electric, and Ferrari is going to be a V6, I think Mclaren already won this one.

I think what detracts for some could easily be remedied by slightly adjusting the W1's paint scheme. Nothing much. Perhaps adding paint to the bottom 'side skirts' to match, as well as the bottom piece right below the front fender (or side fascia). Imo, I think it would 1.) make it work better (visually), and 2.) improve the gawk factor by revealing details some may not notice. Personally, I'd go fully carbon fiber.
So with the electrification they had the opportunity to play around with the weight balance (which I am sure is top notch either way in a car of this calibre) and get more traction/torque vectoring action going on, but completely disregarded powering the front axel?

I agree with you. I feel that the styling of the McLaren W1 doesn't quite have the same "wow" factor as the McLaren F1 and P1. However, I'm looking forward to seeing its performance capabilities. It would be great to see McLaren put this car to the test at the Nürburgring track and share its lap time with the world.

Yeah. The F1 and the P1 set standards that were years ahead of its time. Technical and Look wise. The W1 is a great car, but I don't feel like it will age as well, as its predecessors did.

Looks like the hypercar discussion comes to an end from the styling perspective. For me, the w1 is missing the „wow“ effect styling wise. All technical data are breathtaking as presented but the styling appears as it has to be seen over and over again on hyper cars.

he is not putting battery in his p1 he is doing max out v8 big turbos engine with 1600 + bhp in his car and beat any p1 in the world when it is finished

I agree with you. I feel that the styling of the McLaren W1 doesn't quite have the same "wow" factor as the McLaren F1 and P1. However, I'm looking forward to seeing its performance capabilities. It would be great to see McLaren put this car to the test at the Nürburgring track and share its lap time with the world.

Looks like the hypercar discussion comes to an end from the styling perspective. For me, the w1 is missing the „wow“ effect styling wise.
All technical data are breathtaking as presented but the styling appears as it has to be seen over and over again on hyper cars.
