I served in the Utah Air National Guard for 26 years on active duty. Other than being a husband and father, it was the greatest time of my life. And though I have darkness in my head from the awful things I saw and did, I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
I remember hearing this song the first time in a movie theatre back in 2008 and I became a fan ever since. Amazing writing, and a salute to all those who put their lives on the line for their brothers in arms, and complete strangers. God bless the veterans who give/gave themselves for something better.
I saw this in the theaters around the time it came out. It still brings tears to my eyes. Thank you for the beautiful video that brings to light the job our fighting forces do.
I was at the movies with my Dad when "the day the world stood still" came out when this played on screen. Man it was definitely an inspiration for my enlistment.
It does not, it randomly came up in my Apple Music rotation and I had to come watch the music video that I loved..man it seems like yesterday but 2008 was 14 years ago. Unbelievable.
I know it’s not national guard, but watching this when I was a kid gave me passion and love for our country. I leave next week for basic. God bless the USA

I've always loved this song but with the Russian invasion of Ukraine (February 2022) its been on my mind. In the past 3 days almost half a million refugees have left Ukraine, but most have been women and children. The able-bodied men (and women) of the nation are taking up arms to defend their country and those who have no chance of escaping the conflict, and this song feels appropriate for the time.

I remember the first time I heard this. I just got off MW1 on the PS3, went to see Sweeney Todd at the local movie theater and this came up before it. Still as epic as I remember!!
