12 years in the Navy. PTSD, loss of most of my vision...I love this song and 3 Doors Down, thank you for your supporting our active duty troops, their families, and veterans, it is very much appreciated.
My husband is a Veteran and he lost his teeth and Veterans don't get dental and we had to pay 5500$ for dental. He has depression they give him medicine no counseling only the 1800 suicide hotline is a solution they stated. I am so upset. Yet Migrants in NY get free hotels , dental, free food. Im crying and struggling. Veterans get nothing.
My husband went on so many deployments. He has served 20 years and now serves DOD for his second retirement. Being a military wife and family is hard work but I wouldn't change a thing. Thank you For this song and your support of our military 3 Doors Down!!
M. Trimmer , a grateful nation thanks you. Love from the fighting 40th infantry, California. . ..your service is equal. Behind every great man is a great woman . Fact . Godspeed love
The one time the command structure brought happiness on board a Aircraft Carrier. The good will generated by the Captain/Admiral was beyond words. The men and women at war felt better after this concert in the hanger bay. Thank you 3 doors down and the Navy personal who made this happen. 21 years later , it still brings goose bumps every time I listen to this tune This song is now up there with Brother's in Arms as the Anthem for the modern military
When was usa in declared war? Not clown /dirty water boys lies? My husband was on a carrier...a prostitute with posters thanked him for “last night”....lol.
This song wasn't meant to be about war and it's aftermath, but it has taken on a life of it's own! Much love for all of our men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and our veterans! 💜💜
AMEN ! No matter how it’s perceived, it’s priceless. To all, to everyone. True emotions are for the individuals. As a nation, seek your own meaning. These are truly hard times for the whole planet. Don’t let Satan destroy young minds, hearts, hopes, dreams. The whole planet needs to unite as we should with plain human kindness. This song, 👍👍👍, brings it home for me. Peace for our future ❤️
I witnessed them with my own eyes on this det. in the Med. Sea. I just don't remember where it was anymore. It was either Crete or Lisbon Portugal. I do feel privileged to have served my country. And blessed to experience this patriotic band that unknowingly initiated the beginnings of Operation Iraqi Freedom even though it didn't truly start till I was back on the beach in Virginia. Thank you, USO and MWR n all who served past to present!
God Bless you all for recording this song!! My oldest son served ten years, Army...with two deployments to Afghanistan. The last deployment the truck they were driving ran over a IED, which demolished the truck. So bad that you couldn't tell it was a truck...just a pile of steel. Amazingly only minor injuries until two days later my son had a seizure due to the wreak. They brought him home to do some testing. Diagnosed with TBI, PTSD, seizures, and psychical injuries. I'm so happy he is home in one piece, but he has some issues to figure out! Thanks again for supporting these soldiers/veterans!! Jesus is Love~~
MY SON ALSO!!!!!......They were attacked at a bank and a bomb went off. Son is home safe, but has depression, PTSD, TBI and seizures. Bless your hearts. XOXO
You say he has some issues.. ?? You mean you both have some issues.. !! ❤ he might not make it without you.. ?? Thank god you're there for him....!! It's way harder goin at it alone.. trust i know after 4 deployments myself.. !! Almost impossible to just turn it off.. ?? God bless you and your son... !! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Absolutely one of the best videos of all time! Tons of respect for these young guys to pay tribute to the men and women who sacrifice so much to protect our beautiful country. Y'all capture EVERYTHING in this short video ..thank you! USA
I served 8 years in the Navy, Desert Storm, '91 and I know EXACTLY what it means to leave family behind... and seeing the sad faces on these people brings back the memories and the tears -- that's just something vets live with for the rest of our lives... and though we don't know each other personally, we are a BROTHERHOOD that never dies, sharing the same purpose and experience of serving this great country we live in ---- that NEVER changes and love us or hate us, we STILL do what we have to do.
God bless you and your son. Tell him an old Devildog Sgt. said hello and tell him to thank God that he is alive. I was in Vietnam 19 months. I joined the Corps at age 17 in 1967 and within days 3 of my friends joined. Crazy. We all served in Nam. One guy, Bill W. got shot to shit but he has lived a full successful life. He does have night terrors, still. One guy, a second Bill…..humped m60 ammo. He has had a good life. But, he has PTSD. My best friend, Denny, humped a radio and then was the radio man for the company commander on hill55. He has had a successful life. But, he prefers solice. Me, I take pills for depression. I am a building contractor. We 4 have all been paying that price you pay when spending time in a combat zone. But, we are stubborn fuckers….Marines….and we keep pushing….pushing….May your son do the same. I don’t know if he is a Marine or Army or what. Just keep pushing. He will have mostly good days. Semper Fidelis Dave Heitman in Omaha. P.S. I just reread your comment and see he was in the 82nd Airborne so he is Army. That being the case , when he reads this comment, you better help him with the big words. And tell him that bathing and soap won’t hurt him. Ditto, a toothbrush. Army………..Army……
I joined the Marines a few weeks after high school graduation 1967. 3 of my buddies joined a few days later. We all did time in Vietnam. I landed in Danang on my 19th birthday. I wanted to be there. I did 19 months voluntarily. My friends……..Bill W. , Force Recon, was shot up bad his third month there. He came home and had a good life though to this day…some 50 plus years later, he still has night terrors. Another Bill….Bill E. humped m-60 machine gun ammo. He came home , got a history degree, lived a good life….he has PTSD….takes meds to smooth things over. Denny J. humped the radio on patrols and was the Commanders radio man on hill 55. Denny prefers solice. He has had a productive life but likes solitude. All 3 of these guys divorced. I take pills for depression. Anyone who has been in a combat zone is paying a price. But…….I’m a licensed building contractor in Omaha. Still working at age 74. I’ll work ‘till I can’t walk. The Marine Corps instilled in me…..push…push…just keep pushing. We, all 4 of us, do just that. Tell your son to push. My days are a mix of good and pain - in - the - ass……but I’ll never quit. I see your son was Airborne. That means he’s not very bright. Help him with the big words if he reads my comment. And encourage him to take a shower once in a while and brush his teeth. After all…….he was in the Army. These behaviors may be foreign to him. Semper Fidelis Dave in Omaha
@@EileenHeitman keep pushing forward. Thanks for having the courage to serve for us. I served my community as a volunteer Reserve Deputy SGT. for 9.5 years .
I am a 15 year old in despair, All of the goods songs where either before my time or came out when I was too young to understand what music was. Thank god for youtube.
l was wrong about everyhting shut your damn mouth. You don't know what he's going through, i don't Care what, don't speak of someone unless you know what's going on
+l was wrong about everyhting ... why yes ... I HAVE been in the military. My country wasn't bombed ... but I most certainly stared down a rifle barrel and pulled the trigger more times than. I care to remember! this kid was making a joke ... so get off his ass! why don't YOU go to Facebook with your sorry ass and get in on 1 of your liberal bitch session pages and decry the state of the universe because people just won't accept your socialist/liberal fantasy theories! you hypocritical punk prick!
My husband served in Gulf War!! He battled with PTSD and much more! This song was played constantly his last 4 years as he said the song just helped him. He passed away last year! God bless our Veterans for the strength that they need each day!!
I'm sorry for your lost...I battle PTSD and for me it puts to words what I want to tell my family but can't when my PTSD is activated... always a good cry. Again sorry for your loss and if you haven't listened to it with that thought as my wife asks "what's it like" I just played and said like this.
Such a fitting tribute to those service men & women who sacrifice so much for so little pay & respect. This video brought tears to my eyes as I too know what it’s feels like knowing my son is deployed, facing God knows what, away from his children. The loneliness & despair they all feel when they away from those they love. This is truly an ungrateful nation. When I see the unruly mobs & criminals taking over our streets enjoying what they do while our service members are away sacrificing, it’s pathetic!!!
Sad that these days only songs hold the memories of those we loved. My dad served many years in the army. As a military born child this song holds more meaning than that to me. Many people in and out of my life, come and gone by death and regrets and I feel this deeply. Much love and respect for those who served and lost their lives to give and serve. Your appreciated more than you know and never forgotten. 💓
As a Vet, the daughter of a Vet, great niece of a Vet, and granddaughter of a Vet this song has always brought me to tears. I can remember watching my dad leave for months 6-9 to be exact. Watching the ship dressed with her Lei across the bow and all her soldiers lining up on the upper deck was the most beautiful thing a wife, husband, and child could ever see. Thank you for this beautiful and amazing song.
Different generation. Different music. Music from people who loved their country, valued their freedom, respected their fellow man, and were grateful for those who defended our freedom. Even in their teens and 20’s they had more depth than many “adults” today.
That's the most american bs I've read in a while. That's why the whole world is taking the US as a joke. You NEVER had your freedom restricted after the country was established in 18-th century. You don't know what real war on your turf is and I hope you never experience it. What are these men and women defending, because US freedom is not the subject of it? Oppressing third world countries with NATO bases everywhere is not freedom it's literally territorial fight against Russia and nothing else. Your young men and women are being drafted to "protect" something that is not in danger - U.S freedom. And worst of it is that they oblige willingly to this for money. Let me be clear - I do not disrespect the ARMY as an institution for any country, the serving and any soldier. I just laugh of the concepts in your heads as Americans.
This hits home. I remember it would be a sad day saying bye to my dad before he went on these long deployments, not knowing if he was coming back or not. Hats off to all the vets and the ones currently serving. Thank you!!! 🇺🇸
@jessica You all are the damn best. I'm honored to have the kind of support that you show me, thank you. How are you doing it is nice meeting you here btw
Makes me miss my daddy. He will always be my hero Marine. Yes I remember his long deployments. Never knew when or if he was coming home. God Bless our vets & military. Semper Fi
Saw this video for the first time when my husband was deployed for the second time and watching it again now while my son is deployed for his first.... ALWAYS hits home for me. God speed for all of America's Soldiers!!! xoxoxo
My oldest son took his life in March. He served for 18.5 years of HIS life in the USAF. PTSD is a demon which some submit to.. suicide is not a weakness, it is the end of pain, suffering which some can no longer endure. Joe is forever 39💔 #22toomany 22 vets a day IS too many
People Please let's stop offering up our precious children to die in these evil wars declared by evil selfish men....this is NOT patriotic!!!!!! The founding fathers of this great nation did NOT want this!!!! We need to protect OUR sacred soil yes but not go across the world to do th bidding of broken men !!!!
Iam crying reading your post. It breaks my heart and not enough is done for our service people in that regard. PTSD is real. I am praying for you and your family.
Some say it's a weak soul that takes their own life , not so it's a total reserve to end the pain . I've always been told you only hurt the the ones you leave behind so it should make it easier when you have no one ?
I remember crying the entire ride home after dropping my husband off for deployment. I was pregnant with our first child. We spent our first wedding anniversary apart. Lots of firsts were missed that year. God bless our service men and women and their families.
Me and my husband went through the same. This song used to make me ugly cry! Our son was born during my husband's 2nd deployment to Iraq. My hubby didn't meet our baby boy until he was 4 months old. I'm so grateful that my husband is alive and well after 8 years in the USMC, which included 4 deployments overseas.
Thank You, honorable Vets. Some of you are still "gone" ... suffering in silence back home in the U.S. of A, this song is for you, we will love you until you can find your way back so no worries you taught us loyalty never waivers and Heroes are forever. Thank you for volunteering to protect me and my family. You are worthy of the same freedom you provided us, including th freedom from PTSD.
You know what makes me furious? That the us starts wars and sends people to fight. If our country minded their own business we wouldn't have to risk our troops lives.
+XxSiD ThE_MLG_kIDxX An f-16 and the pilot, a very good friend of mine, we got Friends in the usaf, blew up right After takeoff. It was horrific, I almost threw up since he was the first Person I lost.
Reading these comments from the Military makes me think of my dad who passed 4yrs ago at 91 and a WWII Veteran. Thank you all for taking on the most important job in the UNITED STATES of AMERICA. God bless.
My son was in the army as a medic. He was assigned to Alaska. But he was still a member of the army. This song gets me over and over. He died in my arms from cardiac arrest. He may not have been in the hostile scenarios that so many did but he served and he was called doc to his unit because he was an army combat medic. He served. Damn this song is so good and emotional!
Cindy, I am so sorry for your loss. I can’t even begin to imagine the pain you are going through. My son was USMC reserves and he ended up in Fallujah. That was the worst time of my life. I thank God every day that he came home to us. Your son was a hero for just being in the US military. Everyone in our military has a part to play and no matter what anyone says, they are all heroes. I can’t thank your son for his service so I will thank you. Thank you Cindy for bringing a brave young man into the world, a young man that wanted to serve his country, and did. God bless.
It's been 26 years since our Navy life - USS Pennsylvania 735 (Blue) King's Bay Submarine Base, Georgia - and these shots of Homecoming STILL give me chill bumps!!! There's no bond like military family! Thank you 3 Doors Down for recognizing, supporting, and celebrating our nation's heroes who fight and lay their lives on the line every single day for our freedom!
I lost my wife and soul mate 1 day after our 21st wedding anniversary on July 23rd 2021. 52 is way too young to die. Especially when she got diagnosed 4 days before she passed. We loved this song!!! God bless every military service member past and currently serving
@@MATHEUS1945not with our current presidents ,Everything in America will fall upon our faces shortly , Just pay close attention how everything changes after the recent election taking place ,Slowly but surely
When i am gone, remember my love. Remember the person i tried so hard to be. Don’t remember my mistakes but remember the perseverance that pushed me to realize them. Life with out forgiveness is no life at all.
My best friend John Cleaver from Joplin, Missouri served with my in the US. Navy. He left the Nav and became a combat medic/parachutist in the 82nd Airborne, US. Army. He was murdered by a suicide bomber while attending wounded in afganistan. His was the most beautiful soul i can remember. He was...my...friend, and I love him with all my heart. Ill see you in heaven Bro, I think we served our time in hell...
rip man, recently for njrotc i wrote a report on a guy who died by a suicide bomber in 2013 i think and when i started reading his backstory a song started playing called not my time and i nearly cried
Excellent song displaying our military might. Less than 100 days in Vietnam received a "Dear-John" letter from my High School sweetheart. I stayed 2 Tours (Wounded twice). I still remember what my mother said numerous times... "Life isn't fair". ...RIP all my buddies that didn't make it back.
This song is so special to me. My son was born in 2002 and every night I would get up to feed him like clock work and this song always happened to be on vh1 every night at the same time so it became our song. Fast forward 18 years, my son is now in the military and my worry is unrelenting. This song is a constant reminder of when he was an infant and now a soldier. I'm dying on the inside but am grateful that he is my baby and we can always have this song even though I break down everytime I hear it...
I am sorry to hear of your pain. I want to say thank you to you and your son. Your country has NOT forgotten you and we STILL know, love and respect what you are doing and the sacrifice you are making. Freedom is not free. I don't say these things to give you any pat answers or to divert your pain, but at least I can say thank you.
My dad, and 2 of my brother's served in the military, I thank your son for his service and the sacrifices he is making for this great Nation..thank you and God bless.
My son joined the navy at 17 graduated at 16 made that choice all on his own and now he's on his way to Japan .I can't be any more prouder of the man he's become
That is awesome to see that a young man at his age made that decision. I was also 17 when I joined the military, two weeks after high school graduation.
The men in my family, Grandfather, uncles, dad n son (3 generations) have served in the military from WWII, Vietnam to Afghanistan, US Marines, US Army, US Navy. My son had proudly joined the US Navy, Medical Corpsman 2000-2007, he was deployed to Afghanistan 4 times, we're very blessed to have had my son come home to us as well as my Grandfather, uncles n dad after each war had ended. My heart goes out to all of the families who've lost family members to the past n present wars, may God bless each of those who've lost their lives to the wars, God bless*
This song makes me cry everytime I hear it. My dad is a veteran. Thank you to all the Men and Women who have served and are serving. God bless you all and protect you
I'm a war veteran too and it's so nice 2 c songs dedicated 2 us- I did my share of damage and was a young crazy warrior. Music helps me escape the pain of memories that haunt me. God bless the U.S. and all my brothers and sisters in arms.
@@murlwhite1246 Thank u as well my brother u made me tear up-the 82nd rocks and yes we did a prep-mission 4 them-as in we cleared a path 4 a small group of them 2 do an emergency evac 4 several wounded warriors. the LZ was way 2 hot and had 2 many tangos, but it was our pleasure 2 handle it, and God bless my brother.
Whose fucking freedom exactly? No US service personnel need to die on foreign soil. No country since Japan in 1945 has started a war with America, you are fighting for oil and politicians. Unfortunately the Army is the only way out of poverty for certain peoples
how do you he feel now after dropping the "American Freedom disguised in airstrike" on the weddings, schools, prayers, markets of innocent Muslim Men,Women and Children. how do you feel now by being defeated after 20 years of nothingness and 3 trillion dollars?
@@junaedhossainbiddut3538 you suck you want to see a flag from a soldier's coffin and purple hearts. I didn't comment 2 months ago. Hope you enjoy freedom cause I do..... salam
One of my fondest memories while I was in the Navy was watching this concert from the flight deck of the GeeDub. I already like their music but the energy they put into this performance was indescribable.
Bubbanoid Inport Lisbon, Portugal. I was onboard, too (S-6 Div.) The year before I retired. Didn't even know who this band was at the time. lol. Now there one of my favorites. Hooyah, shipmate.
Thank you everyone for serving but also sacrificing many other important things going on in your life! What year was this concert? I think it said at the beginning of the video, but I missed it. Have a wonderful day!
My dad is 70 and I've just seen his PTSD my entire life from being a Vietnam vet he is not a proud Vietnam veteran unfortunately 🥺he was called a baby killer when he came home ,but he served his country. Don't ever let that be forgotten. He's still struggles to this day😢🫂🇺🇸
Hadn't seen this video for years. It's still gut wrenching. What the men and women of our military AND their spouses, girlfriends, boyfriends, and children sacrifice to protect our country is something those of us who've never served will never truly understand. They literally "give up everything" for us.
Just keep breathing, in & out, one deep breath at a time, keep putting one foot in front of the other, keep on moving forward and making your world a better, happier place to live. Really, that’s all we can do, as time passes our hope is that things will continue to get better & better! Best of luck to you! ❤️🩹
I seen them in concert years ago when they came to Dothan Alabama when i heard this song sung in person I got chills... It raised every hair on my neck.❤😢❤😢
Wow. You took the words right out of my mouth. The tears are literally filling my eyes and pouring down my cheeks as I'm reading these comments. I feel as if there simply aren't words that can even pay tribute to the heroism, courage, and ultimate sacrifice that our military (our warrior angels) WILLINGLY make for OUR freedom. Thank you.
I remember being in like 3rd or 4th grade and my parents got me this CD for Christmas and I listened to it so much that the CD got scratches on it and a bunch of the songs would skip but this song in particular skipped a lot and to this day I can still hear the skips in my head when I listen to it and I kind of flinch and prepare myself for them lmao crazy how shit like that sticks with you
We are celebrating our 20 year anniversary of coming back from Iraq. I know for my team 418th CA BN, DST-A, you were our band and truly a great supporter of the troops. We thank you for all your music during our deployment!
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️❤️❤️ THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE !!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Keep praying for country 🙏🏼 We’re still at war, here on the home front. 😡💔 We’ll ALL work together my friend 👍🥰
I was 18 when this song came out and i had just joined the military, i really thought it was a cheesy video/song at the time but then again at 18 you think you're invincible and there's no need to be sad. Boy does your mind change after a couple of deployments, watching this in my 30's hits me even harder, haven't seen this video in well over a decade.
@Giovanni This is going to be way too long but I’m just getting it off my chest. No one has to read it if they don’t want to. Giovanni I couldn’t agree more. I’m guessing you went in right before me. I didn’t go on the initial push which was just insane so if you were a grunt on the ground during that i can’t imagine. Even in 2005 when I deployed to Iraq it was still crazy. With what is happening in Afghanistan right now it’s really hard to put my feelings into words. For future reference today is August 16th 2021 and the US is withdrawing nearly all troops from Afghanistan. The Taliban conquered the country in less than two weeks with no opposition from the Afghan army that we trained. The Afghan army abandoned their posts and ran at the first sight of the Taliban. Leaving all of the weapons and ammunition that the Afghan army was supposed to use to defend itself. Last night the Taliban was sitting in the Afghanistan Presidential Palace.. I searched for these songs bc the whole thing has me feeling some type of way.. We lost too many men and women only for the Afghan army to act like the cowards we knew they were and run at the first sight of the Taliban. There were some really amazing Afghans as well and right now I’m praying we are able to bring them to safety.
This song and video always gives me goosebumps when listening to it and seeing all the families saying goodbye to their loved ones, never knowing when or if they'll ever seen them again. To EVERY SINGLE Veteran and Active Service Member, Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your sacrifices and service to this Country! ❤️🙏🙌
Yes thank u for your time and sacrifices that you all made to fight for our freedom and condolances to the families and friends of the ones that lost thier lives may they rest in peace
My Uncle Paul died a few years back he was a good man he served in Vietnam when you came back they didn't treat him too well he had a hard life indict us short but we still remember him Gerald
My dad is with me in this song since 2008 since he passed from an accident navy vet but now I'm married and got the life I feel like this is exactly what he wanted for me I don't wanna be the richest man I wanna be the best dad wish me luck and pray for me that I accomplish my goal to the best father that ever fucking existed
I’ll pray for you , proud of you and that line „I don’t wanna be the richest Man ..“ took my by heart . Im certain you will see your Father again at the pearly Gates . Tomorrow is promised to no one so I wish you the strength courage and Love to live every Day like you try to make best out of it . From Scandinavia sending some ❤️
Absolutely!!! This is a song for all of those that might not make it home at the end of the day! I haul gasoline for everyone out there driving cars! I hope i don't get blown up!
I have seen this video countless times, and every time I see it I get more inspired and so proud to be at American. No matter where are you from or where you are currently ACT you must be proud of the US military and all the sacrifices they make., Rock on three doors down
Look dude...your point is valid. However that other 5 percent...just wishing an dreaming like the rest of Americans. Live an let live. To your point ...the government machines will roll on long after our short stint. David 1980 through 1986 u.s army 96 delta 10 m.o.s drive on 3rd herd ..drive on. Pray often.....
in a world full of selfishness some did the ultimate selfless act and paid the price with their LIVES. and the ones who saw combat and made it back can still hear and see the horrors. don't you ever forget that.
My husband used to work on the road... This was a song we would play for each other after he would leave.... This song was played at his funeral a year ago.... I still tear up whenever I hear it. But it will forever be a song between myself and my late husband...
So much they go through. But we only see and hear what they want you to know so that you don't worry about them getting shot at or i, E, D, s , . chemical warfare. 🔥Just be Happy when they do come home. Never be the same though. 🇺🇸
Life has its ups and downs and the hardest challenge we all face is separation from our loved ones it can make us stronger or it can break us it's a gap a void that can't be filled and only those we love can fill it and make us feel whole again
People just do not understand, what it is like to leave your family and kids at home, and not know if you will see them again. That is why we have such a strong connection, even if we never met, and served in different branches. This song gets me as well!!
I'm more of a metal guy, but this song really resonates with me. I was in the military during the Iraq War, 2 deployments to that hell hole, and I've lost some of my shipmates to suicide, including one of my best friends. The fact that this song is dedicated to the troops though does mean a lot. I don't know what else to say but thank you.
To my dad a Vietnam vet (NAVY) and all that have lost, Amen to them.... keep heaven rockin for us left here on earth missin y’all. RIP to all our loved ones.
This song will always remind me of the end of 2002 when I had my youngest daughter while in the Army. I got my orders and knew I was going to deploy in 2003. Sure enough I did when my daughter was 4 months old. When I hear this song I am always taken back to that time on my life. Now she is 21 and in her junior year of college and I’m an 100% disabled Veteran.
I almost committed suicide cause of the pain I was feeling inside, the woman I was with gave up on me when things got rough and when I really needed her the most I ended up in CCU for days
This is me completely! Not scared to die, but scared to be forgotten and not here! I've lost so many I've loved, but carry them by remembering and sharing memories! God bless us all!🙏
I love our military. Hope you guys share memories and take pictures and send to friends and family. Love the us military every branch, every soldier. I love you all. ❤️ 🙏 🪖
As a Marine, this song kills me. Dont get me wrong, I love it. it brings back all the things I love and lost. During Desert Storm I lost my new bride, and during Restore Hop, I lost friends. But I hope this song reminds people to Love the ones out there. All the troops want is to get back to the ones we care about.
how do you feel now after dropping the "American Freedom disguised in airstrike" on the weddings, schools, prayers, markets of innocent Muslim Men,Women and Children. how do you feel now by being defeated after 20 years of nothingness and 3 trillion dollars?

When I’m Gone Lyrics
[Verse 1]
There's another world inside of me that you may never see
There's secrets in this life that I can't hide
But somewhere in this darkness
There's a light that I can't find
Well maybe it's too far away, yeah
Or maybe I'm just blind
Or maybe I'm just blind
[Chorus]
So hold me when I'm here, right me when I'm wrong
Hold me when I'm scared and love me when I'm gone
Everything I am and everything in me
Wants to be the one you wanted me to be
I'll never let you down even if I could
I'd give up everything if only for your good
So hold me when I'm here, right me when I'm wrong
You can hold me when I'm scared
You won't always be there
So love me when I'm gone
Love me when I'm gone
[Verse 2]
When your education X-ray cannot see under my skin
I won't tell you a damn thing that I could not tell my friends
Roaming through this darkness, I'm alive, but I'm alone
And part of me is fighting this, but part of me is gone
[Chorus]
So hold me when I'm here, right me when I'm wrong
Hold me when I'm scared and love me when I'm gone
Everything I am and everything in me
Wants to be the one you wanted me to be
I'll never let you down even if I could
I'd give up everything if only for your good
So hold me when I'm here, right me when I'm wrong
You can hold me when I'm scared
You won't always be there
So love me when I'm gone
Love me when I'm gone
[Refrain]
Or maybe I'm just blind
[Chorus]
So hold me when I'm here, right me when I'm wrong
Hold me when I'm scared and love me when I'm gone
Everything I am and everything in me
Wants to be the one you wanted me to be
I'll never let you down even if I could
I'd give up everything if only for your good
So hold me when I'm here, right me when I'm wrong
You can hold me when I'm scared
You won't always be there
So love me when I'm gone
Love me when I'm gone
[Outro]
Love me when I'm gone
When I'm gone
When I'm gone
When I'm gone

3 Doors Down are not one hit wonders. There was a period during the early 2000’s when they ruled the airwaves, and “When I’m Gone” is living proof. It shot to number 4 on the US Billboard 100, on the back of a music video shot during a live performance on the war ship U.S.S. George Washington in 2002. Maybe the patriotism of the performance helped.
The song can easily be viewed with the military in mind. As US soldiers spend long months overseas, the chorus of “So hold me when I’m here…. And love me when I’m gone” is significant; a plea for partners left back home to never forget their brave heroes fighting on foreign soil.

There’s another world inside of me that you may never see
There’s secrets in this life that I can’t hide
But somewhere in this darkness
There’s a light that I can’t find
Well maybe it’s too far away, yeah
Or maybe I’m just blind
Or maybe I’m just blind

There is parts of him she doesn’t know, some things he can’t keep hidden away. He’s lost and he knows there is a way out he just doesn’t know how to get it, the light as referring to a key to get out of darkness which is his lostness.

Yes sir! 2002 I was 21 and started listening to them too, and I'm 43 now. God bless you and your sons.
12 years in the Navy. PTSD, loss of most of my vision...I love this song and 3 Doors Down, thank you for your supporting our active duty troops, their families, and veterans, it is very much appreciated.
Our government is filled with demons and devils that profit from war.
Thank you for your service
Thank you for your service.........support coming from Canada
Thank you for your service 🇺🇲🦅💛
TY 4 ur service brother n God bless.
My brother served 7 tours in Afghanistan and Iraq and he is in the VA hospital now with PTSD and alcohol!!!! Please pray for our family 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Praying right now💙
Praying to God for him and for an end to useless wars . God bless you all ❤
Sounds like he didn’t come out of it too bad compared to most.. if I’m being completely honest. 🫡USS Nimitz CVN 68
Hang in there battle!!! Fight the demons!! Beat your demons! Love the life you deserve and earned brother!!
My husband went on so many deployments. He has served 20 years and now serves DOD for his second retirement. Being a military wife and family is hard work but I wouldn't change a thing. Thank you For this song and your support of our military 3 Doors Down!!
thanks for your service

M. Trimmer , a grateful nation thanks you. Love from the fighting 40th infantry, California. . ..your service is equal. Behind every great man is a great woman . Fact . Godspeed love
Thank U for service!!!
Thanks you and your family for your sacrifice service and hell you go through. Your husband is a American hero. ❤
The one time the command structure brought happiness on board a Aircraft Carrier. The good will generated by the Captain/Admiral was beyond words. The men and women at war felt better after this concert in the hanger bay. Thank you 3 doors down and the Navy personal who made this happen. 21 years later , it still brings goose bumps every time I listen to this tune
This song is now up there with Brother's in Arms as the Anthem for the modern military
When was usa in declared war? Not clown /dirty water boys lies? My husband was on a carrier...a prostitute with posters thanked him for “last night”....lol.
Great song and ty to 3 doors down, but the boys way upfront don't get the perks, just remember that.😊Some were lucky to get water and chow,SFMFs
For you Jesse Zimmerman…Love me wen I’m gone❤️🙏
Coleen Harper No ma'am. God bless you and yours! Yall are the foundation of our civilization Semper Fidelis

USA

blessings too you and peace, long live the memories and the love in your heart he left !!
Thank you so much for risking your life for my freedom!
Mark Norris you also know what its like to kill an iraqi child?
Dieter Sanchez I never did this... and it is sad for all who suffer in war - no one wins.
Thank you for fighting for our freedom

You all are the damn best. I'm honored to have the kind of support that you show me, thank you. How are you doing it is nice meeting you here btw
Very true and sad. I hope your family is well.
💯🔥🫡
My boyfriend has severe ptsd from many deployments and I’m in law enforcement this song really means so much.
Thank you for what you and your husband do/did. You guys are superheroes to those in your community. God bless you and your family ❤️
There never gone Wihen there still in our hearts they always live on through us
@amandahenegar9242. I agree to what you’ve said it’s true words songs hold memories of those we love..what’s your favorite song
GOD BLESS AMERICA AND AMERICAN SOLDIERS AMEN
For some of us, music is the strongest reminder of a loved one when they're gone. And a reminder to love them, while they're still here. Good job.
Yeah.
Music is everything. I am able to relate to different times of my life through lyrics .My feelings are so much more intense with music!
Amen to that 🙏
Very well said
That's because music is not only of the soul it's also in our heart's.
This hits home. I remember it would be a sad day saying bye to my dad before he went on these long deployments, not knowing if he was coming back or not.
Hats off to all the vets and the ones currently serving. Thank you!!! 🇺🇸

I dedicate this song forever to Sgt Mike Stokely Aug 16 2005 Iraq. Lost but never forgotten brother.

Joe is forever 39💔
#22toomany
22 vets a day IS too many
It hurt my heart when I read that. Rest In Peace Joe.....
Your absolutely right 22 veteran’s a day is 22 to many. Something needs to be done.
Hold you're head high wtf I train well who where why we r trump me 999
Iam crying reading your post. It breaks my heart and not enough is done for our service people in that regard. PTSD is real. I am praying for you and your family.
Some say it's a weak soul that takes their own life , not so it's a total reserve to end the pain . I've always been told you only hurt the the ones you leave behind so it should make it easier when you have no one ?
best interpretation of deployment I've seen. "Part of me is fighting this, but part of me is gone" sums up my feelings before getting underway.
I remember crying the entire ride home after dropping my husband off for deployment. I was pregnant with our first child. We spent our first wedding anniversary apart. Lots of firsts were missed that year. God bless our service men and women and their families.
When was this? Is your husband back? I hope he returned to his family and is living happily and in peace with you all now!
Dios lo traiga a casa sano y salvo señora. Amén.
God bless you and yours

It was an honor to follow men like your dad and mine,I love OUR country

God bless.
Soo sorry for your loss!!! Thank you and your Son for your service!!!
It's been 26 years since our Navy life - USS Pennsylvania 735 (Blue) King's Bay Submarine Base, Georgia - and these shots of Homecoming STILL give me chill bumps!!! Thank you for your service and to your friend rip y'all are awesome bro!!!

I was also 17 when I joined the military, two weeks after high school graduation.
your son will have a good future! 👊
GOOD JOB MOM🥰❤️✌️
The men in my family, Grandfather, uncles, dad n son (3 generations) have served in the military from WWII, Vietnam to Afghanistan, US Marines, US Army, US Navy. My son had proudly joined the US Navy, Medical Corpsman 2000-2007, he was deployed to Afghanistan 4 times, we're very blessed to have had my son come home to us as well as my Grandfather, uncles n dad after each war had ended. My heart goes out to all of the families who've lost family members to the past n present wars, may God bless each of those who've lost their lives to the wars, God bless*
Thank you for your son's service
This song makes me cry everytime I hear it. My dad is a veteran. Thank you to all the Men and Women who have served and are serving. God bless you all and protect you
Hi Monica,hope you’re okay ?
I’m a black woman and I love love this song!! Idk who he was talking about but he put his heart and soul into this song!
He's discussing depression. Not a person. Sorry for my name.
My name is a war against censorship. Not against you.
I'm a war veteran too and it's so nice 2 c songs dedicated 2 us- I did my share of damage and was a young crazy warrior. Music helps me escape the pain of memories that haunt me. God bless the U.S. and all my brothers and sisters in arms.
Thank you for your service & sacrifices. 🙌👏❤🇺🇲 Thankful for men like you, our military. Glad you made it back.
Thank you all for your service..I was 82nd airborne

This song is dedicated to all military personnel past, present and future and to all the loved ones who lost their lives for our freedom.
amen
Ditto!!!!
Thank you foe your service :)
Bubbanoid Inport Lisbon, Portugal. I was onboard, too (S-6 Div.) The year before I retired. Didn't even know who this band was at the time. lol. Now there one of my favorites. Hooyah, shipmate.
Bubbanoid When you feel the energy is a good thing , Thanks for serving , God Bless
Hell yea that was one of the best nights of my life getting paid to watch a free concert the only thing that wasn't cool was the heat
He's still struggles to this day😢🫂🇺🇸
So very sorry for what y'all been through and thank you all for his service and your family's sacrifice you have many supporters.
Hadn't seen this video for years. It's still gut wrenching. What the men and women of our military AND their spouses, girlfriends, boyfriends, and children sacrifice to protect our country is something those of us who've never served will never truly understand. They literally "give up everything" for us.
😢 I'm0:57
This album saved my life, I was destitute, suicidal. I spent 10 years trying to survive. My go to then and now.
Stay strong Lisa!!! That's all we got!!!
Stay strong 💪.God bless you.
Just keep breathing, in & out, one deep breath at a time, keep putting one foot in front of the other, keep on moving forward and making your world a better, happier place to live. Really, that’s all we can do, as time passes our hope is that things will continue to get better & better! Best of luck to you! ❤️🩹
Listening now for the same reasons brother.
A lot of us have been there. I'm here for you. Reach out 24/7.
I remember being stationed on that ship, attending this was one of the greatest concerts I've seen!!
Really. Wow I was on USS SANTA BARBARA IN CHARLESTON. but I wish it was on your ship instead
Thank you for your service to our country

We’ll ALL work together my friend 👍🥰
Beautiful song and thanks for all the soldiers who fought and still fighting for our countries. ( not only US troops).
Thanks for taking it to 'em, G.
Thanks for your service. I wish you peace in your life.
That statement is wrong. Im 18 and i know im vulnerable, thats why im aware.
Me too. Joined the Marines in ‘03. Iraq ‘04-‘05. Loved this song then, love it now and commonly return to listen just to stay grounded. S/F

I'm a VETERAN! Tell him 2 GET OUT when his time is finished. He's worth far more than being a PUPPET on STRINGS. I know what I'm talking about!!
To me this song has never been more relevant than today. To all the veterans, families of veterans and gold star families thank you. Thank you. 🇺🇸
Thank you for what , they went to boom the shit out of innocent civilians, a war based on lies and empty sacrifices. Sorry but this is the truth bud.
Am not a sheep bro , i give facts , not a like .

This song will always remind me of the end of 2002 when I had my youngest daughter while in the Army. I got my orders and knew I was going to deploy in 2003. Sure enough I did when my daughter was 4 months old. When I hear this song I am always taken back to that time on my life.
