My dad used to play his guitar and sing this song to me when I had to go to his house late at night because my mom was having parties and doing drugs (shes sober now). He passed away March 9th 2018, every time I hear this song it brings back so many memories and it hurts so bad to know he's gone. I'm happy he isnt hurting anymore, I miss him so much. His last words were "I love you."

At least he's not in pain anymore and he was there for you through thick and thin that's what dad's are for. Stay strong for him he needs you to be strong he wants you to grieve, but he also wants you to be happy. I lost someone this year too

This song used to fill my heart with so much love in the past. I drive a truck across the country (US) and when I was away from my precious wife and 5 kids for 2-3 weeks at a time. I did this for a year. I used to sing this to her every single day. It was amazing how much we were in love. I loved coming home into her arms. But sadly in 2016 she passed away with lung cancer, now this song is a two edged sword in my heart. It warms my heart thinking of our 30 years together, but it cuts deep and I bleed with sorrow missing her.

My husband loved this song. We used to take a yearly vacation on a houseboat with friends. The last vacation, he played this album/song over and over for 7 days. We were ready to steal it from him. He died a sudden and unexpected death at the age of 40. It took me YEARS to listen to it without crying. I no longer cry when I hear it. I now see him with that beer in his hand, in his wakeboard shorts, standing on the roof of that houseboat, living and LOVING his life and all that was surrounding him. Though his life was short, he probably lived more in those 40 years than most people do in a lifetime. And THAT is what immediately comes to mind when I hear this song.......along with a huge smile on my face and with so much gratitude that he was in my life. He was one hell of a good human being and I say that not because I was his wife. I say it because the world lost a very good soul the day he died. As I sit here and listen to it now, it occurs to me how much this song applies to my story. The circle of life....One dies and another is born. I hold on to the fact that when he took his last breath, he knew how very much he was loved. I wish that for everyone. Thank you for allowing me to share this most treasured memory.

Every time I listen to old music that I used to listen to in their time, I feel deep inside like it may have been 2 or 4 years since their release, but wait, I can't believe it's been 14 years. When do we get that old?
I just moved 13 hours away to northern Minnesota for work away from my family in Michigan. The first time I’m living on my own. I’m 21. It’s not easy, but I know it’s what I have to do. This song encapsulates all those emotions.

Indeed, well said. I couldn't agree more. Too many times I have had someone in my life that I thought was the one, but sadly they were not and I lost them to some other who always looks hotter than me. I thought when I was married I found the one, but no. After my divorce, I thought I found the one. He meant everything to me, he changed my whole world. But as always, some other girl hotter and younger than me stole him away. He changed. He was the open person toward me like he used to. Now it's like he's a stranger and I can't stop thinking about him.
I feel you KDCoaster Chick :(( I've been there...I know how it feels. Life goes on. The quest for finding the right one doesn't end there. It's better to try and fail than to fail to try. Some things are beyond our control. Things may not always turn out the way we want them to be. Loving someone doesn't guarantee that the feelings will be equally reciprocated neither does it give us the license to "own" that person. Someday when we would finally meet "the right one", we'll realize why it never worked out with anyone.
KDCoaster Chick I think many have been down that road. You have that feeling in your gut that you can't live with yourself but guess what, as time goes on, it gets easier, as it gets easier, things start getting back to normal and when things are normal, you walk with your chin up and life goes on without holding back.
***** my ex husband was indeed a sack of shit who was too crammed up his mama's ass. This other guy however, he was unlike anyone else I had ever seen. He treated me with respect, he was gentle and always listened to what I had to say. Ever since he got with someone else and they were only dating a year, he became a whole other person. It's like he hung around our other friends in our group, but he never seems to acknowledge that I am there. Our other friends have slowly one by one become the same way. Very heartbreaking. :'(

I remember being hurt as a teen cuz my ex didn’t appreciate me. I thought something was wrong with me. Why didn’t she love me as much I loved her? Why wasn’t she into me as I was into her?
As an adult I realize she was wrong, she mistreated me, she never loved me. I’m living a much better life than she is and I had to move on to something better. I’m almost grateful she showed me that I needed to stand up for myself and expect better.
