Plus there's plenty of other artists who are assholes who people still enjoy, folks like Eddie Van Halen, Axl Rose, Ted Nugent, Lou Reed, Kanye West, Chris Brown...I'm sure I'm only scraping the top of that list. Hell, John Lennon was a major asshole, reputedly.
This shouldn't take away from the good artists out there, to be clear. For every Axl Rose there's an Alice Cooper. For every Kanye West there's a Method Man. For every Eddie Van Halen there's a Dave Grohl. As with everything, there's good and bad everywhere.
Nickelback, Linkin Park, The Fray, Five for Fighting, Snow Patrol. All forgotten artists that made the best music ever. They are all better than the crap on radio today.
As a massive fan of Linkin Park myself, I would never forget them.

Clément Collier depends on perspective. goodness is something relative. i think Nickelback is as good as an average pop band. if you think mainstream is listenable, then they're a decent band. if not, yes they suck.

They sound good yes, but what people hate is how most of their music sounds almost exactly the same, they're just a money grab band tbh, people also how douchey they are.
Eh, I can understand people feeling a band's style grew stale, but relying on the same tone too much is different from being sellouts or outright lousy.
I would've preferred it if they'd stuck to their guns on a couple of things, such as the original video for "Never Again", but they aren't the first band to kowtow to that kind of marketing pressure and in a way it's understandable.

I can only answer your questions from my point. I really love rock and metal. Plus i'm playing bass and guitar. So I think I've got a pretty good knowledge of this type of music. My main problem with Nikelback is that all the songs sound pretty much the same. The lyrics are good and obviously Chad has a great voice. But the guitars are just the same in all the songs and the bass and drums too.
